< 1 Timothy 3 >

1 This is a faithful saying: someone who seeks to be an overseer desires a good work.
Qas tzij kabꞌixik: We kꞌo jun karaj kux kꞌamal bꞌe jun jeꞌl laj patanijel riꞌ kurayij kuxik.
2 The overseer therefore must be without reproach, the husband of one wife, temperate, sensible, modest, hospitable, good at teaching;
Xaq jeriꞌ, rajawaxik chi ri kꞌamal bꞌe jun chꞌajchꞌoj laj winaq, xa jun rixoqil, qas kunaꞌ na ri kubꞌano, nim kilik, kuya kikꞌolibꞌal xuqujeꞌ kiwa ri koꞌpan chusolixik, qas kanaꞌwik kuya kꞌutuꞌn.
3 not a drinker, not violent, not greedy for money, but gentle, not quarrelsome, not covetous;
Man kaqꞌabꞌar taj, man jun tzukul chꞌoꞌj taj, man are ta kuloqꞌoqꞌej ri pwaq, xane utz kanoꞌjinik xuqujeꞌ kajororik.
4 one who rules his own house well, having children in subjection with all reverence;
Utz rilik ri rixoqil xuqujeꞌ ri ralkꞌwaꞌl kubꞌano, kuꞌtaqchiꞌj ri e ralkꞌwaꞌl kenimanik, jeꞌ jas ri kajawatajik.
5 (for how could someone who doesn’t know how to rule his own house take care of God’s assembly?)
We kꞌu man kakwinik kuꞌpixibꞌaj ri e ralkꞌwaꞌl xuqujeꞌ ri rixoqil, ¿la are kꞌu kakwin riꞌ kuchajij ri komontyox rech ri Dios?
6 not a new convert, lest being puffed up he fall into the same condemnation as the devil.
Man jun kꞌakꞌ kojonel taj, rech man kape ta nimal che, xuqujeꞌ rech man kaqaj ta apanoq pa ri kꞌaxkꞌolal ri xqaj wi ri itzel.
7 Moreover he must have good testimony from those who are outside, to avoid falling into reproach and the snare of the devil.
Xuqujeꞌ rajawaxik chi utz ketzijon ri winaq che rech man kayoqꞌ taj xuqujeꞌ man kaqaj ta pa ri ukꞌaꞌmabꞌal ri itzel.
8 Servants, in the same way, must be reverent, not double-tongued, not addicted to much wine, not greedy for money,
Je xuqujeꞌ rajawaxik chi ri patanijelabꞌ nim kiqꞌij, man kakibꞌan ta bꞌanoj tzij, man kakitij ta nim vino, man ke jiqꞌjat taj che ri pwaq ri man kichꞌekoj taj.
9 holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience.
Rajawaxik chꞌajchꞌoj ri kichomanik, xuqujeꞌ kakikꞌol ri nimaq taq qas tzij rech ri kojobꞌal.
10 Let them also first be tested; then let them serve if they are blameless.
Nabꞌe na solix kij, we kꞌu maj mak kariqitaj chike, kꞌa te riꞌ choꞌk che patanijel.
11 Their wives in the same way must be reverent, not slanderers, temperate, and faithful in all things.
Xuqujeꞌ rajawaxik chi ri e kixoqil ri e patanijelabꞌ nim kiqꞌij, man e bꞌanal taq tzij taj, xane utz kenoꞌjinik, xuqujeꞌ e kuꞌlibꞌal kuꞌx.
12 Let servants be husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.
Rajawaxik chi ri patanijel achajilom xa rech jun ixoq, xuqujeꞌ kuꞌpixibꞌaj ri e ralkꞌwaꞌl pa ri rachoch.
13 For those who have served well gain for themselves a good standing and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus.
Ri utz kakibꞌan che ri kipatan, kakichꞌek jun kꞌolibꞌal jawjeꞌ ri nim kiꞌl wi, xuqujeꞌ kayaꞌtaj kuꞌlibꞌal kuꞌx chike chutzijoxik ri kikojobꞌal pa Cristo Jesús.
14 These things I write to you, hoping to come to you shortly,
Pune kawaj kateꞌnwilaꞌ aninaq, kintzꞌibꞌaj kꞌu we ucholajil riꞌ chawe rech
15 but if I wait long, that you may know how men ought to behave themselves in God’s house, which is the assembly of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.
we kinbꞌeyetajik, awetaꞌm jas jeꞌ katnoꞌjin pa ri rachoch ri Dios, are waꞌ ri komontyox rech ri kꞌaslik Dios, ri teleninaq xuqujeꞌ ri ukꞌuꞌx ri qas tzij.
16 Without controversy, the mystery of godliness is great: God was revealed in the flesh, justified in the spirit, seen by angels, preached among the nations, believed on in the world, and received up in glory.
Qas qꞌalaj chi qas nim wi ri awatalik che ri qakojobꞌal: ri Cristo xukꞌut ribꞌ jacha jun achi, xya pa ri ukꞌolibꞌal rumal ri Uxlabꞌixel, xil uwach kumal ri angelibꞌ, xtzijox pa ronojel ri tinimit rech ri uwachulew. Ri winaq choch ri uwachulew xkikoj pa kanimaꞌ, xkꞌamawaꞌx pa ri juluwem.
