1 Peter 4
1 Therefore, since Christ suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same mind; for he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin,
それで，キリストは肉においてわたしたちのために苦しみを受けられたのですから，あなた方も同じ思いで武装しなさい。肉において苦しみを受けた人は，罪をやめているからです。
2 that you no longer should live the rest of your time in the flesh for the lusts of men, but for the will of God.
それは，あなた方が，肉における自分の残りの時を，もはや人間の欲望のためではなく，神のご意志のために生きるためです。
3 For we have spent enough of our past time doing the desire of the Gentiles, and having walked in lewdness, lusts, drunken binges, orgies, carousings, and abominable idolatries.
わたしたちはかつて，過ぎ去った時の間，異邦人たちの望むことを行ない，みだらさ，欲望，どんちゃん騒ぎ，浮かれ騒ぎ，飲み騒ぎ，嫌悪すべき偶像崇拝のうちを歩んできましたが，そうした時を過ごすのはもうたくさんだからです。
4 They think it is strange that you don’t run with them into the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you.
彼らは，あなた方が自分たちと共にそうした度を越した乱行に走り込まないので，ののしりつつ，不審に思っています。
5 They will give account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.
彼らは，生きている者たちと死んだ者たちとを裁く用意のある方に言い開きをすることになります。
6 For to this end the Good News was preached even to the dead, that they might be judged indeed as men in the flesh, but live as to God in the spirit.
というのは，この目的のために，福音は死んだ者たちにさえ宣教されたからです。すなわち，彼らが，肉においては確かに人間がするようにして裁かれていても，霊においては神に関して生きるようになるためでした。
7 But the end of all things is near. Therefore be of sound mind, self-controlled, and sober in prayer.
しかし，すべての物の終わりが近づいています。ですから，健全な思いを持ち，自制し，冷静に祈っていなさい。
8 And above all things be earnest in your love among yourselves, for love covers a multitude of sins.
何よりもまず，互いの間で真剣な愛を抱きなさい。愛は多くの罪を覆うからです。
9 Be hospitable to one another without grumbling.
不平を言わずに互いをよくもてなし合いなさい。
10 As each has received a gift, employ it in serving one another, as good managers of the grace of God in its various forms.
各自，その贈り物を受けたところに従い，神のさまざまな恵みの良い管理人として，それを互いのために役立てなさい。
11 If anyone speaks, let it be as it were the very words of God. If anyone serves, let it be as of the strength which God supplies, that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen. (aiōn g165)
だれかが語るのであれば，神の託宣を語るようにして語りなさい。だれかが仕えるのであれば，神が供給してくださる力によるようにして仕えなさい。それは，神がすべてのことにおいて，イエス・キリストを通して栄光をお受けになるためです。この方に，栄光と支配権がいつまでもありますように。アーメン。 (aiōn g165)
12 Beloved, don’t be astonished at the fiery trial which has come upon you to test you, as though a strange thing happened to you.
愛する者たちよ，あなた方を試みるために臨んできた火のような試練のことで，異常なことが自分たちに生じたかのように驚いてはいけません。
13 But because you are partakers of Christ’s sufferings, rejoice, that at the revelation of his glory you also may rejoice with exceeding joy.
むしろ，キリストの苦しみに共にあずかる者となっていることを喜びなさい。彼の栄光の現われの時にも非常な歓喜をもって喜ぶためです。
14 If you are insulted for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you. On their part he is blasphemed, but on your part he is glorified.
キリストの名のために侮辱されているなら，あなた方は幸いです。栄光の霊また神の霊があなた方の上に休まっているからです。その方は，彼らからは冒とくされていますが，あなた方からは栄光をささげられています。
15 But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or a thief, or an evil doer, or a meddler in other men’s matters.
あなた方のうちのだれも，人殺し，盗人，悪を行なう者，または他人のことに干渉する者として苦しみを受けないようにしなさい。
16 But if one of you suffers for being a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God in this matter.
しかし，あなた方のうちの一人が，クリスチャンであるために苦しみを受けるのであれば，恥じてはなりません。むしろ，そのことにおいて神に栄光をささげなさい。
17 For the time has come for judgment to begin with the household of God. If it begins first with us, what will happen to those who don’t obey the Good News of God?
というのは，裁きが神の家から始まる時が来ているからです。それが最初にわたしたちから始まるのであれば，神の福音に従わない者たちにはいったい何が起こるでしょうか。
18 “If it is hard for the righteous to be saved, what will happen to the ungodly and the sinner?”
「義人が苦労して救われるのであれば，不信心な者と罪人には何が起こるだろうか」。
19 Therefore let them also who suffer according to the will of God in doing good entrust their souls to him, as to a faithful Creator.
ですから，神のご意志によって苦しみを受けている人々は，善を行ないつつ，自分の魂をその方，すなわち誠実な創造者に託しなさい。
