1 Peter 3
1 In the same way, wives, be in subjection to your own husbands, so that, even if any don’t obey the Word, they may be won by the behavior of their wives without a word,
De igual manera, vosotras, mujeres, sed sumisas a vuestros maridos, para que si algunos no obedecen a la predicación sean ganados sin palabra por la conducta de sus mujeres,
2 seeing your pure behavior in fear.
al observar vuestra vida casta y llena de reverencia.
3 Let your beauty come not from the outward adorning of braiding your hair, and of wearing gold ornaments or of putting on fine clothing,
Que vuestro adorno no sea de afuera: el rizarse los cabellos, ornarse de joyas de oro o ataviarse de vestidos,
4 but from the hidden person of the heart, in the incorruptible adornment of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in God’s sight.
sino el ( adorno ) interior del corazón, que consiste en la incorrupción de un espíritu manso y suave, precioso a los ojos de Dios.
5 For this is how in the past the holy women who hoped in God also adorned themselves, being in subjection to their own husbands.
Porque así también se ataviaban antiguamente las santas mujeres que esperaban en Dios, viviendo sumisas a sus maridos;
6 So Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord, whose children you now are if you do well and are not put in fear by any terror.
como, por ejemplo, Sara era obediente a Abrahán y le llamaba señor. De ella sois hijas vosotras si obráis el bien sin temer ninguna amenaza.
7 You husbands, in the same way, live with your wives according to knowledge, giving honor to the woman as to the weaker vessel, as also being joint heirs of the grace of life, that your prayers may not be hindered.
Asimismo, vosotros, maridos, vivid en común con vuestras mujeres con toda la discreción, como que son vaso más débil. Tratadlas con honra como a coherederas que son de la gracia de la vida, para que nada estorbe vuestras oraciones.
8 Finally, all of you be like-minded, compassionate, loving as brothers, tenderhearted, courteous,
En fin, sed todos de un mismo sentir, compasivos, amantes de los hermanos, misericordiosos, humildes.
9 not rendering evil for evil or insult for insult; but instead blessing, knowing that you were called to this, that you may inherit a blessing.
No devolváis mal por mal ni ultraje por ultraje, sino al contrario bendecid, porque para esto fuisteis llamados a ser herederos de la bendición.
10 For, “He who would love life and see good days, let him keep his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking deceit.
“Quien quiere amar la vida y ver días felices, aparte su lengua del mal y sus labios de palabras engañosas;
11 Let him turn away from evil and do good. Let him seek peace and pursue it.
sepárese del mal y obre el bien; busque la paz y vaya en pos de ella;
12 For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears open to their prayer; but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.”
porque los ojos del Señor van hacia los justos, y sus oídos están atentos a sus plegarias, pero el rostro del Señor está contra los que obran el mal”.
13 Now who will harm you if you become imitators of that which is good?
¿Y quién habrá que os haga mal si estáis celosamente entregados al bien?
14 But even if you should suffer for righteousness’ sake, you are blessed. “Don’t fear what they fear, neither be troubled.”
Aun cuando padeciereis por la justicia, dichosos de vosotros. No tengáis de ellos ningún temor, ni os perturbéis;
15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts. Always be ready to give an answer to everyone who asks you a reason concerning the hope that is in you, with humility and fear,
antes bien, santificad a Cristo como Señor en vuestros corazones, y estad siempre prontos a dar respuesta a todo el que os pidiere razón de la esperanza en que vivís;
16 having a good conscience. Thus, while you are spoken against as evildoers, they may be disappointed who curse your good way of life in Christ.
pero con mansedumbre y reserva, teniendo buena conciencia, para que en aquello mismo en que sois calumniados sean confundidos los que difaman vuestra buena conducta en Cristo.
17 For it is better, if it is God’s will, that you suffer for doing what is right than for doing evil.
Porque mejor es sufrir, si tal es la voluntad de Dios, haciendo el bien que haciendo el mal.
18 Because Christ also suffered for sins once, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring you to God, being put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the Spirit,
Pues también Cristo murió una vez por los pecados, el Justo por los injustos, a fin de llevarnos a Dios. Fue muerto en la carne, pero llamado a la vida por el Espíritu,
19 in whom he also went and preached to the spirits in prison,
en el cual fue también a predicar a los espíritus encarcelados,
20 who before were disobedient when God waited patiently in the days of Noah while the ship was being built. In it, few, that is, eight souls, were saved through water.
que una vez fueron rebeldes cuando los esperaba la longanimidad de Dios en los días de Noé, mientras se construía el arca, en la cual algunos pocos, a saber, ocho personas, fueron salvados a través del agua;
21 This is a symbol of baptism, which now saves you—not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God—through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,
cuyo antitipo, el bautismo —que consiste, no en la eliminación de la inmundicia de la carne, sino en la demanda a Dios de una buena conciencia— os salva ahora también a vosotros por la resurrección de Jesucristo,
22 who is at the right hand of God, having gone into heaven, angels and authorities and powers being made subject to him.
el cual subió al cielo y está a la diestra de Dios, hallándose sujetos a Él ángeles, autoridades y poderes.
