1 Kings 22
1 They continued three years without war between Syria and Israel.
Et il y eut entre eux une trêve de trois ans, car il n'y eut pas guerre entre la Syrie et Israël.
2 In the third year, Jehoshaphat the king of Judah came down to the king of Israel.
Et la troisième année, Josaphat, roi de Juda, descendit chez le roi d'Israël.
3 The king of Israel said to his servants, “You know that Ramoth Gilead is ours, and we do nothing, and don’t take it out of the hand of the king of Syria?”
Et le roi d'Israël dit à ses serviteurs: Savez-vous que Ramoth en Galaad est à nous? Et nous ne parlons pas de la reprendre des mains du roi de Syrie?
4 He said to Jehoshaphat, “Will you go with me to battle to Ramoth Gilead?” Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, “I am as you are, my people as your people, my horses as your horses.”
Et il dit à Josaphat: Veux-tu venir avec moi attaquer Ramoth en Galaad? Et Josaphat dit au roi d'Israël: Nous irons de pair moi et toi, mon monde et ton monde, ma cavalerie et ta cavalerie.
5 Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, “Please inquire first for Yahweh’s word.”
Et Josaphat dit au roi d'Israël: Requiers donc aujourd'hui la parole de l'Éternel!
6 Then the king of Israel gathered the prophets together, about four hundred men, and said to them, “Should I go against Ramoth Gilead to battle, or should I refrain?” They said, “Go up; for the Lord will deliver it into the hand of the king.”
Alors le roi d'Israël réunit les prophètes, près de quatre cents hommes, et il leur dit: Marcherai-je à l'attaque de Ramoth en Galaad, ou m'abstiendrai-je? Et ils lui dirent: Tiens la campagne et le Seigneur la livrera aux mains du roi.
7 But Jehoshaphat said, “Isn’t there here a prophet of Yahweh, that we may inquire of him?”
Et Josaphat dit: N'y a-t-il plus ici de prophète de l'Éternel, que nous puissions interroger?
8 The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “There is yet one man by whom we may inquire of Yahweh, Micaiah the son of Imlah; but I hate him, for he does not prophesy good concerning me, but evil.” Jehoshaphat said, “Don’t let the king say so.”
Et le roi d'Israël dit à Josaphat: Il y a encore un homme par qui nous pouvons consulter l'Éternel; mais je le hais, parce qu'il ne me prédit pas du bien, mais du mal, Michée, fils de Jimla. Et Josaphat dit: Que le roi ne s'exprime pas ainsi!
9 Then the king of Israel called an officer, and said, “Quickly get Micaiah the son of Imlah.”
Alors le roi d'Israël manda un eunuque et lui dit: Fais vite venir Michée, fils de Jimla.
10 Now the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah were sitting each on his throne, arrayed in their robes, in an open place at the entrance of the gate of Samaria; and all the prophets were prophesying before them.
Or le roi d'Israël et Josaphat, roi de Juda, étaient assis chacun sur son trône, revêtus du costume, dans un local à l'entrée de la porte de Samarie, et tous les prophètes prophétisaient devant eux.
11 Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah made himself horns of iron, and said, “Yahweh says, ‘With these you will push the Syrians, until they are consumed.’”
Et Sédécias, fils de Knaana, se fit des cornes de fer et dit: Ainsi parle l'Éternel: Avec ceci tu culbuteras les Syriens jusqu'à les détruire.
12 All the prophets prophesied so, saying, “Go up to Ramoth Gilead and prosper; for Yahweh will deliver it into the hand of the king.”
Et tous les prophètes prophétisèrent de même et dirent: Marche contre Ramoth en Galaad, et tu réussiras, et l'Éternel la livrera entre les mains du roi.
13 The messenger who went to call Micaiah spoke to him, saying, “See now, the prophets declare good to the king with one mouth. Please let your word be like the word of one of them, and speak good.”
Cependant le messager parti pour mander Michée lui parla en ces termes: Voici, les paroles des prophètes ont été unanimement favorables au roi: que ta réponse soit donc semblable à la réponse de chacun d'eux, et parle favorablement.
14 Micaiah said, “As Yahweh lives, what Yahweh says to me, that I will speak.”
Et Michée dit: Par la vie de l'Éternel! Ce que l'Éternel me dira, je le rendrai.
15 When he had come to the king, the king said to him, “Micaiah, shall we go to Ramoth Gilead to battle, or shall we forbear?” He answered him, “Go up and prosper; and Yahweh will deliver it into the hand of the king.”
Et quand il fut arrivé auprès du roi, le roi lui dit: Michée, marcherons-nous sur Ramoth en Galaad pour l'attaquer, ou bien nous abstiendrons-nous? Et il lui répondit: Mets-toi en campagne et tu réussiras, et l'Éternel la livrera aux mains du roi.
16 The king said to him, “How many times do I have to adjure you that you speak to me nothing but the truth in Yahweh’s name?”
Et le roi lui dit: Combien de fois me faudra-t-il t'adjurer de ne me dire que la vérité, au nom de l'Éternel?
17 He said, “I saw all Israel scattered on the mountains, as sheep that have no shepherd. Yahweh said, ‘These have no master. Let them each return to his house in peace.’”
Et il répondit: Je vois tout Israël épars sur les montagnes comme un troupeau sans pasteur. Et l'Éternel dit: Ils n'ont plus de souverain; qu'ils retournent chacun dans sa demeure en paix!
18 The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “Didn’t I tell you that he would not prophesy good concerning me, but evil?”
Alors le roi d'Israël dit à Josaphat: Ne te l'ai-je pas dit? Il ne me prédit pas du bonheur, mais du malheur.
19 Micaiah said, “Therefore hear Yahweh’s word. I saw Yahweh sitting on his throne, and all the army of heaven standing by him on his right hand and on his left.
Et il reprit: En conséquence écoute la parole de l'Éternel! J'ai vu l'Éternel assis sur son trône et toute l'armée des Cieux debout près de Lui à sa droite et à sa gauche.
20 Yahweh said, ‘Who will entice Ahab, that he may go up and fall at Ramoth Gilead?’ One said one thing, and another said another.
Et l'Éternel dit: Qui fascinera Achab pour qu'il marche et aille tomber à Ramoth en Galaad? Et l'un parla d'une manière et l'autre d'une autre.
21 A spirit came out and stood before Yahweh, and said, ‘I will entice him.’
Alors l'esprit parut et se présenta devant l'Éternel et dit: Moi, j'irai le fasciner. Et l'Éternel lui dit: Comment?
22 Yahweh said to him, ‘How?’ He said, ‘I will go out and will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets.’ He said, ‘You will entice him, and will also prevail. Go out and do so.’
Et il répondit: Je veux sortir et être esprit de mensonge dans la bouche de tous ses prophètes. Et il dit: Fascine, et aussi tu le pourras; pars et ainsi fais.
23 Now therefore, behold, Yahweh has put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these your prophets; and Yahweh has spoken evil concerning you.”
Eh bien! donc l'Éternel a mis un esprit de mensonge dans la bouche de tous ces tiens prophètes; et l'Éternel a contre toi dénoncé le désastre.
24 Then Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah came near and struck Micaiah on the cheek, and said, “Which way did Yahweh’s Spirit go from me to speak to you?”
Alors Sédécias, fils de Knaana, s'approcha et frappa Michée à la joue et dit: Par quelle voie l'esprit de l'Éternel s'en est-il allé d'avec moi pour parler avec toi?
25 Micaiah said, “Behold, you will see on that day when you go into an inner room to hide yourself.”
Et Michée dit: Voici, tu le verras le jour même que tu passeras de chambre en chambre pour te cacher.
26 The king of Israel said, “Take Micaiah, and carry him back to Amon the governor of the city and to Joash the king’s son.
Et le roi d'Israël dit à [quelqu'un]: Saisis Michée et le ramène chez Amon, préfet de la ville, et chez Joas, fils du roi,
27 Say, ‘The king says, “Put this fellow in the prison, and feed him with bread of affliction and with water of affliction, until I come in peace.”’”
et tu diras: Ainsi parle le roi: Mettez celui-ci en prison et le nourrissez du pain et de l'eau de tribulation jusqu'à ce que je revienne sain et sauf.
28 Micaiah said, “If you return at all in peace, Yahweh has not spoken by me.” He said, “Listen, all you people!”
Et Michée dit: Si tu reviens sain et sauf, l'Éternel n'a pas parlé par moi. Il dit encore: Entendez-le! vous toutes les Tribus.
29 So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah went up to Ramoth Gilead.
Ainsi le roi d'Israël marcha avec Josaphat, roi de Juda, contre Ramoth en Galaad.
30 The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “I will disguise myself and go into the battle, but you put on your robes.” The king of Israel disguised himself and went into the battle.
Et le roi d'Israël dit à Josaphat: Je me travestirai pour aller au combat; mais toi, revêts-toi de tes habits.
31 Now the king of Syria had commanded the thirty-two captains of his chariots, saying, “Don’t fight with small nor great, except only with the king of Israel.”
Et le roi d'Israël se travestit et alla au combat. Or le roi de Syrie avait donné cet ordre aux trente-deux chefs des chars qu'il avait: N'engagez la lutte avec personne, petit ou grand, mais avec le roi d'Israël seul.
32 When the captains of the chariots saw Jehoshaphat, they said, “Surely that is the king of Israel!” and they came over to fight against him. Jehoshaphat cried out.
Et quand les chefs des chars aperçurent Josaphat, ils dirent: Ce ne peut être que le roi d'Israël; et ils appuyèrent de son côté pour l'attaquer. Alors Josaphat cria.
33 When the captains of the chariots saw that it was not the king of Israel, they turned back from pursuing him.
Les chefs des chars, qui virent alors que ce n'était pas le roi d'Israël, cessèrent de le poursuivre.
34 A certain man drew his bow at random, and struck the king of Israel between the joints of the armor. Therefore he said to the driver of his chariot, “Turn around, and carry me out of the battle, for I am severely wounded.”
Cependant un homme banda son arc, tout innocemment, et décocha un coup au roi d'Israël au défaut de la cuirasse. Et celui-ci dit à son cocher: Tourne et mène-moi hors de la mêlée, car je me sens mal.
35 The battle increased that day. The king was propped up in his chariot facing the Syrians, and died at evening. The blood ran out of the wound into the bottom of the chariot.
Et l'action était chaude en cette journée, et le roi fut tenu debout sur son char en face des Syriens, et il mourut dans la soirée. Et le sang de la blessure coula dans la caisse du char.
36 A cry went throughout the army about the going down of the sun, saying, “Every man to his city, and every man to his country!”
Alors retentit dans la mêlée au coucher du soleil cette proclamation: Chacun à sa ville et chacun dans son pays!
37 So the king died, and was brought to Samaria; and they buried the king in Samaria.
Et le roi mort fut ramené à Samarie, et on donna la sépulture au roi à Samarie.
38 They washed the chariot by the pool of Samaria; and the dogs licked up his blood where the prostitutes washed themselves, according to Yahweh’s word which he spoke.
Et lorsqu'on lava le char à l'étang de Samarie, les chiens lapèrent son sang, et les prostituées s'y baignèrent selon la menace que l'Éternel avait prononcée.
39 Now the rest of the acts of Ahab, and all that he did, and the ivory house which he built, and all the cities that he built, aren’t they written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
Le reste des actes d'Achab, et toutes ses entreprises, et la construction du palais d'ivoire, et la fondation de toutes les villes qu'il bâtit, cela est d'ailleurs consigné dans le livre des annales des rois d'Israël.
40 So Ahab slept with his fathers; and Ahaziah his son reigned in his place.
Et Achab reposa avec ses pères, et son fils Achazia régna en sa place.
41 Jehoshaphat the son of Asa began to reign over Judah in the fourth year of Ahab king of Israel.
Et Josaphat, fils d'Asa, devint roi de Juda la quatrième année d'Achab, roi d'Israël.
42 Jehoshaphat was thirty-five years old when he began to reign; and he reigned twenty-five years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Azubah the daughter of Shilhi.
Et Josaphat à son avènement avait trente-cinq ans, et il régna vingt-cinq ans à Jérusalem. Or le nom de sa mère était Azouba, fille de Silchi.
43 He walked in all the way of Asa his father. He didn’t turn away from it, doing that which was right in Yahweh’s eyes. However, the high places were not taken away. The people still sacrificed and burned incense on the high places.
Et il marcha sur tous les errements d'Asa, son père, sans s'en écarter, faisant ce qui est droit aux yeux de l'Éternel. Seulement les tertres ne disparurent pas; le peuple offrait encore des victimes et de l'encens sur les tertres.
44 Jehoshaphat made peace with the king of Israel.
Et Josaphat fut en paix avec le roi d'Israël.
45 Now the rest of the acts of Jehoshaphat, and his might that he showed, and how he fought, aren’t they written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?
Le reste des actes de Josaphat, et ses exploits et ses guerres, sont d'ailleurs consignés dans le livre des annales des rois de Juda.
46 The remnant of the sodomites, that remained in the days of his father Asa, he put away out of the land.
Et il extermina du pays le reste des prostitués qui restaient à l'époque d'Asa, son père.
47 There was no king in Edom. A deputy ruled.
Et il n'y avait pas de roi en Édom, qui était régi par un gouverneur.
48 Jehoshaphat made ships of Tarshish to go to Ophir for gold, but they didn’t go, for the ships wrecked at Ezion Geber.
Josaphat construisit des navires de Tharsis pour aller à Ophir chercher l'or; mais ils n'allèrent point, car les navires firent naufrage à Etsion Géber.
49 Then Ahaziah the son of Ahab said to Jehoshaphat, “Let my servants go with your servants in the ships.” But Jehoshaphat would not.
Alors Achazia, fils d'Achab, dit à Josaphat: Permets que mes serviteurs s'embarquent avec tes serviteurs dans les navires; mais Josaphat ne consentit pas.
50 Jehoshaphat slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in his father David’s city. Jehoram his son reigned in his place.
Et Josaphat reposa avec ses pères et reçut la sépulture avec ses pères dans la ville de David, son père, et Joram, son fils, régna en sa place.
51 Ahaziah the son of Ahab began to reign over Israel in Samaria in the seventeenth year of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, and he reigned two years over Israel.
Achazia, fils d'Achab, devint roi d'Israël à Samarie la dix-septième année de Josaphat, roi de Juda, et il régna deux ans sur Israël.
52 He did that which was evil in Yahweh’s sight, and walked in the way of his father, and in the way of his mother, and in the way of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, in which he made Israel to sin.
Et il fit ce qui est mal aux yeux de l'Éternel et marcha sur les errements de son père et sur les errements de sa mère, et sur les errements de Jéroboam, fils de Nebat, qui avait entraîné Israël au péché.
53 He served Baal and worshiped him, and provoked Yahweh, the God of Israel, to anger in all the ways that his father had done so.
Et il servit Baal et l'adora et provoqua l'Éternel, Dieu d'Israël, tout comme avait fait son père.
