1 Corinthians 10
1 Now I would not have you ignorant, brothers, that our fathers were all under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;
No quiero que ignoréis, hermanos, que nuestros padres estuvieron todos debajo de la nube, y todos pasaron por el mar;
2 and were all baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea;
y todos en orden a Moisés fueron bautizados en la nube y en el mar;
3 and all ate the same spiritual food;
y todos comieron el mismo manjar espiritual,
4 and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank of a spiritual rock that followed them, and the rock was Christ.
y todos bebieron la misma bebida espiritual, puesto que bebían de una piedra espiritual que les iba siguiendo, y la piedra era Cristo.
5 However with most of them, God was not well pleased, for they were overthrown in the wilderness.
Con todo, la mayor parte de ellos no agradó a Dios, pues fueron tendidos en el desierto.
6 Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things as they also lusted.
Estas cosas sucedieron como figuras para nosotros, a fin de que no codiciemos lo malo como ellos codiciaron.
7 Don’t be idolaters, as some of them were. As it is written, “The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.”
No seáis, pues, idólatras, como algunos de ellos, según está escrito: “Sentose el pueblo a comer y a beber, y se levantaron para danzar”.
8 Let’s not commit sexual immorality, as some of them committed, and in one day twenty-three thousand fell.
No cometamos, pues, fornicación, como algunos de ellos la cometieron y cayeron en un solo día veintitrés mil.
9 Let’s not test Christ, as some of them tested, and perished by the serpents.
No tentemos, pues, al Señor, como algunos de ellos le tentaron, y perecieron por las serpientes.
10 Don’t grumble, as some of them also grumbled, and perished by the destroyer.
No murmuréis, pues, como algunos de ellos murmuraron y perecieron a manos del Exterminador.
11 Now all these things happened to them by way of example, and they were written for our admonition, on whom the ends of the ages have come. (aiōn g165)
Todo esto les sucedió a ellos en figura, y fue escrito para amonestación de nosotros para quienes ha venido el fin de las edades. (aiōn g165)
12 Therefore let him who thinks he stands be careful that he doesn’t fall.
Por tanto, el que cree estar en pie, cuide de no caer.
13 No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.
No nos ha sobrevenido tentación que no sea humana; y Dios es fiel y no permitirá que seáis tentados sobre vuestras fuerzas, sino que aun junto a la tentación preparará la salida, para que podáis sobrellevarla.
14 Therefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry.
Por lo cual, amados míos, huid de la idolatría.
15 I speak as to wise men. Judge what I say.
Os hablo como a prudentes; juzgad vosotros mismos de lo que os digo:
16 The cup of blessing which we bless, isn’t it a sharing of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, isn’t it a sharing of the body of Christ?
El cáliz de bendición que bendecimos ¿no es comunión de la sangre de Cristo? El pan que partimos ¿no es comunión del cuerpo de Cristo?
17 Because there is one loaf of bread, we, who are many, are one body; for we all partake of the one loaf of bread.
Dado que uno es el pan, un cuerpo somos los muchos; pues todos participamos del único Pan.
18 Consider Israel according to the flesh. Don’t those who eat the sacrifices participate in the altar?
Mirad al Israel según la carne. ¿Acaso los que comen de las víctimas no entran en comunión con el altar?
19 What am I saying then? That a thing sacrificed to idols is anything, or that an idol is anything?
¿Qué es, pues, lo que digo? ¿Que lo inmolado a los ídolos es algo? ¿O que el ídolo es algo?
20 But I say that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to demons and not to God, and I don’t desire that you would have fellowship with demons.
Al contrario, digo que lo que inmolan [los gentiles], a los demonios lo inmolan, y no a Dios, y no quiero que vosotros entréis en comunión con los demonios.
21 You can’t both drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons. You can’t both partake of the table of the Lord and of the table of demons.
No podéis beber el cáliz del Señor y el cáliz de los demonios. No podéis participar de la mesa del Señor y de la mesa de los demonios.
22 Or do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? Are we stronger than he?
¿O es que queremos provocar a celos al Señor? ¿Somos acaso más fuertes que Él?
23 “All things are lawful for me,” but not all things are profitable. “All things are lawful for me,” but not all things build up.
“Todo es lícito”: pero no todo conviene. “Todo es lícito”; pero no todo edifica.
24 Let no one seek his own, but each one his neighbor’s good.
Ninguno mire por lo propio sino por lo del prójimo.
25 Whatever is sold in the butcher shop, eat, asking no question for the sake of conscience,
De todo lo que se vende en el mercado, comed sin inquirir nada por motivos de conciencia;
26 for “the earth is the Lord’s, and its fullness.”
porque “del Señor es la tierra y cuanto ella contiene”.
27 But if one of those who don’t believe invites you to a meal, and you are inclined to go, eat whatever is set before you, asking no questions for the sake of conscience.
Si os convida alguno de los infieles y aceptáis, comed de cuanto os pongan delante, sin inquirir nada por motivos de conciencia.
28 But if anyone says to you, “This was offered to idols,” don’t eat it for the sake of the one who told you, and for the sake of conscience. For “the earth is the Lord’s, with all its fullness.”
Mas si alguno os dijere: “esto fue inmolado”, no comáis, en atención a aquel que lo señaló, y por la conciencia.
29 Conscience, I say, not your own, but the other’s conscience. For why is my liberty judged by another conscience?
Por la conciencia digo, no la propia, sino la del otro. Mas ¿por qué ha de ser juzgada mi libertad por conciencia ajena?
30 If I partake with thankfulness, why am I denounced for something I give thanks for?
Si yo tomo mi parte con acción de gracias ¿por qué he de ser censurado por aquello mismo de que doy gracias?
31 Whether therefore you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.
Por lo cual, ya comáis, ya bebáis, ya hagáis cualquier cosa, todo habéis de hacerlo para gloria de Dios,
32 Give no occasion for stumbling, whether to Jews, to Greeks, or to the assembly of God;
y no seáis ocasión de escándalo, ni para los judíos, ni para los griegos, ni para la Iglesia de Dios;
33 even as I also please all men in all things, not seeking my own profit, but the profit of the many, that they may be saved.
así como yo también en todo procuro complacer a todos, no buscando mi propio provecho, sino el de todos para que se salven.
