Psalms 78
1 A contemplation by Asaph. Hear my teaching, my people. Turn your ears to the words of my mouth.
Пісня навча́льна Асафова.
2 I will open my mouth in a parable. I will utter dark sayings of old,
нехай я відкрию уста́ свої при́казкою, нехай старода́вні прислі́в'я я ви́словлю!
3 which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us.
Що́ ми чули й пізнали, і що́ розповідали батьки́ наші нам, —
4 We will not hide them from their children, telling to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, his strength, and his wondrous deeds that he has done.
того не сховаємо від їхніх сині́в, будемо розповіда́ти про славу Господню аж до покоління оста́ннього, і про силу Його та про чу́да Його, які Він учинив!
5 For he established a covenant in Jacob, and appointed a teaching in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children;
Він поставив засві́дчення в Якові, а Зако́на поклав ув Ізраїлі, про які наказав був Він нашим батька́м завідо́мити про них синів їхніх,
6 that the generation to come might know, even the children who should be born; who should arise and tell their children,
щоб знало про це поколі́ння майбу́тнє, сини, що наро́джені будуть, — уста́нуть і будуть розповідати своїм дітям.
7 that they might set their hope in God, and not forget God’s deeds, but keep his commandments,
І положать на Бога надію свою, і не забудуть діл Божих, Його ж заповіді берегти́муть.
8 and might not be as their fathers— a stubborn and rebellious generation, a generation that didn’t make their hearts loyal, whose spirit was not steadfast with God.
І не стануть вони, немов їхні батьки́, поколі́нням непокі́рливим та бунтівни́чим, поколінням, що серця свого́ не поста́вило міцно, і що дух його Богу невірний.
9 The children of Ephraim, being armed and carrying bows, turned back in the day of battle.
Сини Єфрема, озбро́єні лу́чники, повернулися взад у день бо́ю:
10 They didn’t keep God’s covenant, and refused to walk in his law.
вони не берегли́ заповіту Божого, а ходити в Зако́ні Його відреклися,
11 They forgot his doings, his wondrous deeds that he had shown them.
і забули вони Його чи́ни та чу́да Його, які їм показав.
12 He did marvellous things in the sight of their fathers, in the land of Egypt, in the field of Zoan.
Він чудо вчинив був для їхніх батькі́в ув єгипетськім кра́ї, на полі Цоа́нськім:
13 He split the sea, and caused them to pass through. He made the waters stand as a heap.
Він море розсік, і їх перепрова́див, а воду поставив, як вал;
14 In the daytime he also led them with a cloud, and all night with a light of fire.
і прова́див їх хмарою вдень, а ся́йвом огню́ цілу ніч;
15 He split rocks in the wilderness, and gave them drink abundantly as out of the depths.
на пустині Він скелі розсік, і щедро усіх напоїв, як з безо́дні.
16 He brought streams also out of the rock, and caused waters to run down like rivers.
Він витягнув із скелі пото́ки, і во́ди текли, немов ріки.
17 Yet they still went on to sin against him, to rebel against the Most High in the desert.
Та гріши́ли вони проти Нього ще да́лі, і в пустіші гніви́ли Всевишнього,
18 They tempted God in their heart by asking food according to their desire.
і Бога вони випробо́вували в своїм серці, для душ своїх ї́жі бажаючи.
19 Yes, they spoke against God. They said, “Can God prepare a table in the wilderness?
І вони говорили насу́проти Бога й казали: „Чи Бог зможе в пустині трапе́зу згото́вити?“
20 Behold, he struck the rock, so that waters gushed out, and streams overflowed. Can he give bread also? Will he provide meat for his people?”
Тож ударив у скелю — і во́ди лину́ли, і полили́ся пото́ки! „Чи Він зможе також дати хліба? Чи Він наготує м'яси́ва наро́дові Своє́му?“
21 Therefore the LORD heard, and was angry. A fire was kindled against Jacob, anger also went up against Israel,
Тому́ то почув це Господь та й розгні́вався, — і огонь запалав проти Якова, і проти Ізраїля теж знявся гнів,
22 because they didn’t believe in God, and didn’t trust in his salvation.
бо не ві́рували вони в Бога, і на спасі́ння Його не наді́ялись.
23 Yet he commanded the skies above, and opened the doors of heaven.
А Він хмарам згори наказав, — і відчинив двері неба,
24 He rained down manna on them to eat, and gave them food from the sky.
і спустив, немов дощ, на них ма́нну для їжі, — і збі́жжя небесне їм дав:
25 Man ate the bread of angels. He sent them food to the full.
Хліб а́нгольський їла люди́на, Він послав їм поживи до си́тости!
26 He caused the east wind to blow in the sky. By his power he guided the south wind.
Крім цього, Він схі́днього вітра пору́шив на небі, і міццю Своєю привів полудне́вого вітра, —
27 He also rained meat on them as the dust, winged birds as the sand of the seas.
і дощем на них м'ясо пустив, немов по́рох, а птаство крила́те, як мо́рський пісо́к,
28 He let them fall in the middle of their camp, around their habitations.
і спустив його серед табо́ру його́, коло наметів його.
29 So they ate, and were well filled. He gave them their own desire.
І їли вони та й наси́тились ду́же, — Він їм їхнє бажа́ння приніс!
30 They didn’t turn from their cravings. Their food was yet in their mouths,
Та ще не вдовольни́ли жада́ння свого́, ще їхня ї́жа була в їхніх уста́х,
31 when the anger of God went up against them, killed some of their strongest, and struck down the young men of Israel.
а гнів Божий підня́вся на них, та й побив їхніх ситих, і вибра́нців Ізраїлевих повали́в.
32 For all this they still sinned, and didn’t believe in his wondrous works.
Проте́ ще й далі грішили вони та не вірили в чу́да Його,
33 Therefore he consumed their days in vanity, and their years in terror.
— і Він докінчи́в у марно́ті їхні дні, а їхні літа́ — у страху.
34 When he killed them, then they enquired after him. They returned and sought God earnestly.
Як Він їх побива́в, то бажали Його, — і верта́лися, й Бога шукали,
35 They remembered that God was their rock, the Most High God, their redeemer.
і прига́дували, що Бог — їхня скеля, і Бог Всевишній — то їхній Викупите́ль.
36 But they flattered him with their mouth, and lied to him with their tongue.
І своїми уста́ми вле́щували Його, а своїм язико́м лжу спліта́ли Йому́,
37 For their heart was not right with him, neither were they faithful in his covenant.
бо їхнє серце не міцно стояло при Нім, і не були́ вони вірні в Його заповіті.
38 But he, being merciful, forgave iniquity, and didn’t destroy them. Yes, many times he turned his anger away, and didn’t stir up all his wrath.
Та він, Милосердний, гріх проща́в і їх не губив, і часто відве́ртав Свій гнів, і не буди́в усю Свою лютість,
39 He remembered that they were but flesh, a wind that passes away, and doesn’t come again.
і Він пам'ятав, що вони тільки тіло, вітер, який перехо́дить і не поверта́ється!
40 How often they rebelled against him in the wilderness, and grieved him in the desert!
Скільки вони прогнівля́ли Його на пустині, зневажа́ли Його на степу́!
41 They turned again and tempted God, and provoked the Holy One of Israel.
І все знову та знов випробо́вували вони Бога, і зневажа́ли Святого Ізра́їлевого, —
42 They didn’t remember his hand, nor the day when he redeemed them from the adversary;
вони не пам'ята́ли руки Його з дня, як Він ви́бавив їх із недолі,
43 how he set his signs in Egypt, his wonders in the field of Zoan,
як в Єгипті чинив Він знаме́на Свої, а на полі Цоа́нському чу́да Свої,
44 he turned their rivers into blood, and their streams, so that they could not drink.
і в кров оберну́в річки їхні та їхні пото́ки, щоб вони не пили́.
45 He sent amongst them swarms of flies, which devoured them; and frogs, which destroyed them.
Він послав був на них рої мух, — і їх же́рли вони, і жаб — і вони їх губили.
46 He also gave their increase to the caterpillar, and their labour to the locust.
А врожай їхній віддав був Він гу́сені, а їхню пра́цю — сарані́.
47 He destroyed their vines with hail, their sycamore fig trees with frost.
Виноград їхній Він гра́дом побив, а при́морозком — їхні шовко́виці.
48 He also gave over their livestock to the hail, and their flocks to hot thunderbolts.
І Він градові віддав їхній скот, а бли́скавкам — че́реди їхні.
49 He threw on them the fierceness of his anger, wrath, indignation, and trouble, and a band of angels of evil.
Він послав був на них Свій гнів запальни́й, і лютість, й обу́рення, й у́тиск, насла́ння злих анголі́в.
50 He made a path for his anger. He didn’t spare their soul from death, but gave their life over to the pestilence,
Він дорогу зрівня́в був для гніву Свого, їхні душі не стримав від смерти, життя ж їхнє віддав морови́ці.
51 and struck all the firstborn in Egypt, the chief of their strength in the tents of Ham.
І побив Він усіх перворі́дних в Єгипті, пе́рвістків сили в наметах Ха́мових.
52 But he led out his own people like sheep, and guided them in the wilderness like a flock.
І повів Він, немов ту отару, наро́д Свій, і їх попрова́див, як стадо, в пустині.
53 He led them safely, so that they weren’t afraid, but the sea overwhelmed their enemies.
І провадив безпечно Він їх, і вони не боялись, а море накри́ло було́ ворогів їхніх.
54 He brought them to the border of his sanctuary, to this mountain, which his right hand had taken.
І Він їх привів до границі святині Своєї, до тієї гори, що прави́ця Його набула́.
55 He also drove out the nations before them, allotted them for an inheritance by line, and made the tribes of Israel to dwell in their tents.
І наро́ди Він повиганя́в перед їхнім обличчям, і кинув для них жеребка́ про спа́док, — і в їхніх наме́тах племе́на Ізраїлеві осели́в.
56 Yet they tempted and rebelled against the Most High God, and didn’t keep his testimonies,
Та й далі вони випробо́вували та гніви́ли Всевишнього Бога, і Його постано́в не доде́ржували,
57 but turned back, and dealt treacherously like their fathers. They were twisted like a deceitful bow.
і відступали та зраджували, немов їхні батьки відверну́лись, як обма́нливий лук.
58 For they provoked him to anger with their high places, and moved him to jealousy with their engraved images.
І же́ртівниками своїми гніви́ли Його, і дрочи́ли Його своїми фіґу́рами.
59 When God heard this, he was angry, and greatly abhorred Israel,
Бог почув усе це — і розгні́вався, і сильно обри́дивсь Ізраїлем,
60 so that he abandoned the tent of Shiloh, the tent which he placed amongst men,
і покинув осе́лю в Шіло́, скинію ту, що вмістив був посеред людей,
61 and delivered his strength into captivity, his glory into the adversary’s hand.
і віддав до неволі Він силу Свою, а вели́чність Свою — в руку во́рога.
62 He also gave his people over to the sword, and was angry with his inheritance.
І віддав для меча Свій наро́д, і розгнівався був на спа́дщину Свою:
63 Fire devoured their young men. Their virgins had no wedding song.
його юнакі́в огонь пожира́в, а дівча́там його не співали весі́льних пісе́нь,
64 Their priests fell by the sword, and their widows couldn’t weep.
його священики від меча полягли́, — і не плакали вдови його.
65 Then the Lord awakened as one out of sleep, like a mighty man who shouts by reason of wine.
Та небавом збудився Господь, немов зо́ сну, як той ве́лет, що ніби вином був підко́шений,
66 He struck his adversaries backward. He put them to a perpetual reproach.
і вдарив Своїх ворогів по оза́дку, — вічну га́ньбу їм дав!
67 Moreover he rejected the tent of Joseph, and didn’t choose the tribe of Ephraim,
Та Він погорди́в намет Йо́сипів, і племе́на Єфремового не обрав,
68 But chose the tribe of Judah, Mount Zion which he loved.
а вибрав Собі плем'я Юдине, го́ру Сіон, що її полюбив!
69 He built his sanctuary like the heights, like the earth which he has established forever.
І святиню Свою збудував Він, як місце високе, як землю, що навіки її вґрунтува́в.
70 He also chose David his servant, and took him from the sheepfolds;
І вибрав Давида, Свого раба, і від коша́р його взяв,
71 from following the ewes that have their young, he brought him to be the shepherd of Jacob, his people, and Israel, his inheritance.
від кі́тних ове́чок його Він привів, щоб Якова пас він, народа Свого, та Ізраїля, спа́док Свій, —
72 So he was their shepherd according to the integrity of his heart, and guided them by the skilfulness of his hands.
і він пас їх у щирості серця свого́, і прова́див їх мудрістю рук своїх!
