Luke 20
1 And it came to pass, [that] on one of those days, as he was teaching the people in the temple, and preaching the gospel, the chief priests and the scribes came upon [him], with the elders,
Un de ces jours-là, comme Jésus enseignait le peuple dans le temple et qu’il annonçait la bonne nouvelle, les principaux sacrificateurs et les scribes, avec les anciens, survinrent,
2 And spoke to him, saying, Tell us, By what authority doest thou these things? or who is he that gave thee this authority?
et lui dirent: Dis-nous, par quelle autorité fais-tu ces choses, ou qui est celui qui t’a donné cette autorité?
3 And he answered and said to them, I will also ask you one thing; and answer me:
Il leur répondit: Je vous adresserai aussi une question.
4 The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or from men?
Dites-moi, le baptême de Jean venait-il du ciel, ou des hommes?
5 And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say, Why then believed ye him not?
Mais ils raisonnèrent ainsi entre eux: Si nous répondons: Du ciel, il dira: Pourquoi n’avez-vous pas cru en lui?
6 But if we say, From men; all the people will stone us: for they are persuaded that John was a prophet.
Et si nous répondons: Des hommes, tout le peuple nous lapidera, car il est persuadé que Jean était un prophète.
7 And they answered, that they could not tell whence [it was].
Alors ils répondirent qu’ils ne savaient d’où il venait.
8 And Jesus said to them, Neither do I tell you by what authority I do these things.
Et Jésus leur dit: Moi non plus, je ne vous dirai pas par quelle autorité je fais ces choses.
9 Then he began to speak to the people this parable; A certain man planted a vineyard, and let it to husbandmen, and went into a far country for a long time.
Il se mit ensuite à dire au peuple cette parabole: Un homme planta une vigne, l’afferma à des vignerons, et quitta pour longtemps le pays.
10 And at the season he sent a servant to the husbandmen, that they should give him of the fruit of the vineyard: but the husbandmen beat him, and sent [him] away empty.
Au temps de la récolte, il envoya un serviteur vers les vignerons, pour qu’ils lui donnent une part du produit de la vigne. Les vignerons le battirent, et le renvoyèrent à vide.
11 And again he sent another servant: and they beat him also, and treated [him] shamefully, and sent [him] away empty.
Il envoya encore un autre serviteur; ils le battirent, l’outragèrent, et le renvoyèrent à vide.
12 And again he sent the third: and they wounded him also, and cast [him] out.
Il en envoya encore un troisième; ils le blessèrent, et le chassèrent.
13 Then said the lord of the vineyard, What shall I do? I will send my beloved son: it may be when they see him they will reverence him.
Le maître de la vigne dit: Que ferai-je? J’enverrai mon fils bien-aimé; peut-être auront-ils pour lui du respect.
14 But when the husbandmen saw him, they reasoned among themselves, saying, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, that the inheritance may be ours.
Mais, quand les vignerons le virent, ils raisonnèrent entre eux, et dirent: Voici l’héritier; tuons-le, afin que l’héritage soit à nous.
15 So they cast him out of the vineyard, and killed [him]. What therefore will the lord of the vineyard do to them?
Et ils le jetèrent hors de la vigne, et le tuèrent. Maintenant, que leur fera le maître de la vigne?
16 He will come and destroy these husbandmen, and will give the vineyard to others. And when they heard [it], they said, may that never be.
Il viendra, fera périr ces vignerons, et il donnera la vigne à d’autres. Lorsqu’ils eurent entendu cela, ils dirent: A Dieu ne plaise!
17 And he beheld them, and said, What is this then that is written, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner?
Mais, jetant les regards sur eux, Jésus dit: Que signifie donc ce qui estécrit: La pierre qu’ont rejetée ceux qui bâtissaient Est devenue la principale de l’angle?
18 Whoever shall fall upon that stone, shall be broken: but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.
Quiconque tombera sur cette pierre s’y brisera, etcelui sur qui elle tombera sera écrasé.
19 And the chief priests and the scribes the same hour sought to lay hands on him; and they feared the people: for they perceived that he had spoken this parable against them.
Les principaux sacrificateurs et les scribes cherchèrent à mettre la main sur lui à l’heure même, mais ils craignirent le peuple. Ils avaient compris que c’était pour eux que Jésus avait dit cette parabole.
20 And they watched [him], and sent forth spies, who should feign themselves just men, that they might take hold of his words, that so they might deliver him to the power and authority of the governor.
Ils se mirent à observer Jésus; et ils envoyèrent des gens qui feignaient d’être justes, pour lui tendre des pièges et saisir de lui quelque parole, afin de le livrer au magistrat et à l’autorité du gouverneur.
21 And they asked him, saying, Master, we know that thou sayest and teachest rightly, neither acceptest thou the person [of any], but teachest the way of God truly:
Ces gens lui posèrent cette question: Maître, nous savons que tu parles et enseignes droitement, et que tu ne regardes pas à l’apparence, mais que tu enseignes la voie de Dieu selon la vérité.
22 Is it lawful for us to give tribute to Cesar, or not?
Nous est-il permis, ou non, de payer le tribut à César?
23 But he perceived their craftiness, and said to them, Why tempt ye me?
Jésus, apercevant leur ruse, leur répondit: Montrez-moi un denier.
24 Show me a penny. Whose image and superscription hath it? They answered and said, Cesar's.
De qui porte-t-il l’effigie et l’inscription? De César, répondirent-ils.
25 And he said to them, Render therefore to Cesar the things which are Cesar's, and to God the things which are God's.
Alors il leur dit: Rendez donc à César ce qui est à César, et à Dieu ce qui est à Dieu.
26 And they could not take hold of his words before the people: and they marveled at his answer, and held their peace.
Ils ne purent rien reprendre dans ses paroles devant le peuple; mais, étonnés de sa réponse, ils gardèrent le silence.
27 Then came to [him] certain of the Sadducees (who deny that there is any resurrection) and they asked him,
Quelques-uns des sadducéens, qui disent qu’il n’y a point de résurrection, s’approchèrent, et posèrent à Jésus cette question:
28 Saying, Master, Moses wrote to us, If any man's brother should die, having a wife, and he should die without children, that his brother should take his wife, and raise up seed to his brother.
Maître, voici ce que Moïse nous a prescrit: Si le frère de quelqu’un meurt, ayant une femme sans avoir d’enfants, son frère épousera la femme, et suscitera une postérité à son frère.
29 There were therefore seven brothers: and the first took a wife, and died without children.
Or, il y avait sept frères. Le premier se maria, et mourut sans enfants.
30 And the second took her for a wife, and he died childless.
Le second et le troisième épousèrent la veuve;
31 And the third took her; and in like manner the seven also: And they left no children, and died.
il en fut de même des sept, qui moururent sans laisser d’enfants.
32 Last of all the woman died also.
Enfin, la femme mourut aussi.
33 Therefore in the resurrection, whose wife of them is she? for seven had her to wife.
A la résurrection, duquel d’entre eux sera-t-elle donc la femme? Car les sept l’ont eue pour femme.
34 And Jesus answering, said to them, The children of this world marry, and are given in marriage: (aiōn g165)
Jésus leur répondit: Les enfants de ce siècle prennent des femmes et des maris; (aiōn g165)
35 But they who shall be accounted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage. (aiōn g165)
mais ceux qui seront trouvés dignes d’avoir part au siècle à venir et à la résurrection des morts ne prendront ni femmes ni maris. (aiōn g165)
36 Neither can they die any more: for they are equal to the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection.
Car ils ne pourront plus mourir, parce qu’ils serontsemblables aux anges, et qu’ils seront fils de Dieu, étant fils de la résurrection.
37 Now that the dead are raised, even Moses showed at the bush, when he calleth the Lord the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.
Que les morts ressuscitent, c’est ce que Moïse a fait connaître quand, à propos du buisson, il appellele Seigneur le Dieu d’Abraham, le Dieu d’Isaac, et le Dieu de Jacob.
38 For he is not a God of the dead, but of the living: for all live to him.
Or, Dieu n’est pas Dieu des morts, mais des vivants; car pour lui tous sont vivants.
39 Then certain of the scribes answering, said, Master, thou hast well said.
Quelques-uns des scribes, prenant la parole, dirent: Maître, tu as bien parlé.
40 And after that, they durst not ask him any question at all.
Et ils n’osaient plus lui faire aucune question.
41 And he said to them, How say they that Christ is David's son?
Jésus leur dit: Comment dit-on que le Christ est fils de David?
42 And David himself saith in the book of Psalms, The LORD said to my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand,
David lui-même dit dans le livre des Psaumes: Le Seigneur a dit à mon Seigneur: Assieds-toi à ma droite,
43 Till I make thy enemies thy footstool.
Jusqu’à ce que je fasse de tes ennemis ton marchepied.
44 David therefore calleth him Lord, how is he then his son?
David donc l’appelle Seigneur; comment est-il son fils?
45 Then in the audience of all the people, he said to his disciples,
Tandis que tout le peuple l’écoutait, il dit à ses disciples:
46 Beware of the scribes, who desire to walk in long robes, and love greetings in the markets, and the highest seats in the synagogues, and the chief rooms at feasts;
Gardez-vous des scribes, qui aiment à se promener en robes longues, et à être salués dans les places publiques; qui recherchent les premiers sièges dans les synagogues, et les premières places dans les festins;
47 Who devour widows' houses, and for a show make long prayers: the same shall receive greater damnation.
qui dévorent les maisons des veuves, et qui font pour l’apparence de longues prières. Ils seront jugés plus sévèrement.
