Lamentations 4

1 How is the gold become dim! [how] is the most fine gold changed! the stones of the sanctuary are poured out at the head of every street.

Wie ist das Gold verdunkelt, das gute, lautere Gold verändert, wie sind die Steine des Heiligtums an aller Gassen Anfang hingeschüttet!

2 The precious sons of Zion, comparable to fine gold, how are they esteemed as earthen pitchers, the work of the hands of the potter!

Die köstlichen Söhne Zijons, mit feinem Golde aufgewogen, wie werden sie wie irdene Krüge, das Werk der Hände des Töpfers, geachtet.

3 Even the sea-monsters draw out the breast, they nurse their young ones: the daughter of my people [is become] cruel, like the ostriches in the wilderness.

Selbst die Walfische reichen ihre Brust, sie säugen ihre Jungen; meines Volkes Tochter ist grausam geworden, wie Käuzlein in der Wüste.

4 The tongue of the sucking child cleaveth to the roof of his mouth for thirst: the young children ask bread, [and] no man breaketh [it] to them.

Die Zunge des Säuglings klebt vor Durst an seinem Gaumen. Die Kindlein fragen nach Brot, doch niemand reicht es ihnen dar.

5 They that fed delicately are desolate in the streets: they that were brought up in scarlet embrace dunghills.

Die Leckerbissen aßen, werden auf den Gassen verwüstet, und die in Scharlach auferzogen wurden, umarmen Kothaufen.

6 For the punishment of the iniquity of the daughter of my people is greater than the punishment of the sin of Sodom, that was overthrown as in a moment, and no hands stayed on her.

Die Missetat der Tochter meines Volkes ist größer geworden denn die Sünde Sodoms, das wie im Augenblick ward umgekehrt, und keine Hände gestalteten es.

7 Her Nazarites were purer than snow, they were whiter than milk, they were more ruddy in body than rubies, their polishing [was] of sapphire:

Lauterer waren ihre Nasiräer denn Schnee, hellglänzender denn Milch, röter an Gebein denn Edelsteine, ihre Glätte wie Saphir.

8 Their visage is blacker than a coal; they are not known in the streets: their skin cleaveth to their bones; it is withered, it is become like a stick.

Finsterer denn Schwärze ist jetzt ihre Gestalt. Man erkennt sie auf den Gassen nicht, ihre Haut hängt fest an ihrem Gebein, verdorrt war es wie Holz.

9 [They that are] slain with the sword are better than [they that are] slain with hunger: for these pine away, stricken through for [want of] the fruits of the field.

Besser daran waren die durch das Schwert Erschlagenen, denn die vom Hunger erschlagen, die dahinsinken durchbohrt wegen dem Ertrag des Feldes.

10 The hands of the pitiful women have boiled their own children: they were their food in the destruction of the daughter of my people.

Die Hände erbarmungsvoller Weiber kochen ihre Kinder, zur Nahrung sind sie ihnen bei dem Bruch der Tochter meines Volkes.

11 The LORD hath accomplished his fury; he hath poured out his fierce anger, and hath kindled a fire in Zion, and it hath devoured her foundations.

Vollendet hat Jehovah Seinen Grimm, und die Entbrennung Seines Zorns ausgeschüttet und in Zijon entzündet ein Feuer, das ihre Grundfesten auffraß.

12 The kings of the earth, and all the inhabitants of the world, would not have believed that the adversary and the enemy would have entered into the gates of Jerusalem.

Die Könige der Erde und alle, so in der Welt wohnen, glaubten nicht, daß ein Dränger und Feind werde eingehen in die Tore Jerusalems.

13 For the sins of her prophets, [and] the iniquities of her priests, that have shed the blood of the just in the midst of her.

Ob der Sünden ihrer Propheten, der Missetaten ihrer Priester, die in ihrer Mitte der Gerechten Blut vergossen.

14 They have wandered [as] blind [men] in the streets, they have polluted themselves with blood, so that men could not touch their garments.

Blind wanderten in den Gassen sie umher, waren mit Blut befleckt, daß man ihren Anzug nicht zu berühren vermochte.

15 They cried to them, Depart ye; [it is] unclean; depart, depart, touch not: when they fled away and wandered, they said among the heathen, They shall no more sojourn [there].

Weichet! Ein Unreiner! riefen sie vor ihnen. Weichet, weichet! Rühret nicht an! Wenn sie davongeflohen und fortgewandert sind, sagt man unter den Völkerschaften: Sie sollen nicht länger da sich aufhalten.

16 The anger of the LORD hath divided them; he will no more regard them: they respected not the persons of the priests, they favored not the elders.

Jehovahs Angesicht hat sie zerteilt. Nicht länger blickt Er sie an. Das Angesicht der Priester erhoben sie nicht und zeigten keine Gnade den Ältesten.

17 As for us, our eyes as yet failed for our vain help: in our watching we have watched for a nation [that] could not save [us].

Noch waren wir - unsere Augen vergingen wegen unserer nichtigen Hilfe. Wir spähten auf unserer Warte nach einer Völkerschaft, die nicht rettete.

18 They hunt our steps, that we cannot go in our streets: our end is near, our days are fulfilled; for our end is come.

Sie machten Jagd auf unsere Schritte, daß wir nicht in unseren Straßen gingen. Unser Ende war genaht, unsere Tage voll; denn unser Ende war gekommen.

19 Our persecutors are swifter than the eagles of heaven: they pursued us upon the mountains, they laid wait for us in the wilderness.

Schneller waren unsere Verfolger als des Himmels Adler. Auf den Bergen jagten sie uns nach, lagen im Hinterhalt auf uns in der Wüste.

20 The breath of our nostrils, the anointed of the LORD, was taken in their pits, of whom we said, Under his shadow we shall live among the heathen.

Der Hauch unsrer Nase, der Gesalbte des Jehovah, ist in ihren Gruben gefangen, von Dem wir sagten: In Seinem Schatten wollen wir unter den Völkerschaften leben.

21 Rejoice and be glad, O daughter of Edom, that dwellest in the land of Uz; the cup also shall pass through to thee: thou shalt be drunken, and shalt make thyself naked.

Freue dich und sei fröhlich, du Tochter Edoms, die du wohnst im Lande Uz. An dich auch kommt der Becher herüber. Du wirst dich berauschen und entblößen.

22 The punishment of thy iniquity is accomplished, O daughter of Zion; he will no more carry thee away into captivity: he will visit thy iniquity, O daughter of Edom; he will disclose thy sins.

Deine Missetat, Tochter Zijon, ist vollendet. Er läßt dich nicht mehr wegführen. Deine Missetat, Tochter Edoms, sucht Er heim, hat deine Sünden aufgedeckt.
