Job 21
1 But Job answered and said,
Wtedy Hiob odpowiedział:
2 Hear diligently my speech, and let this be your consolations.
Słuchajcie uważnie moich słów, a to będzie dla mnie wasza pociecha.
3 Suffer me that I may speak; and after I have spoken, mock on.
Pozwólcie mi mówić, a potem, gdy powiem, naśmiewajcie się ze mnie.
4 As for me, [is] my complaint to man? and if [it were so], why should not my spirit be troubled?
Czy swoją skargę kieruję do człowieka? A jeśli tak, to dlaczego mój duch nie miałby być wzburzony?
5 Mark me, and be astonished, and lay [your] hand upon [your] mouth.
Spójrzcie na mnie, zdumiewajcie się i połóżcie rękę na swoje usta.
6 Even when I remember I am afraid, and trembling taketh hold on my flesh.
Gdy tylko sobie przypomnę, jestem przerażony i strach ogarnia moje ciało.
7 Why do the wicked live, become old, and, are mighty in power?
Czemu niegodziwi żyją, starzeją się, a nawet wzrastają w bogactwie?
8 Their seed is established in their sight with them, and their offspring before their eyes.
Ich potomstwo utrwala się przed nimi, a ich rodzina [wzrasta] na ich oczach.
9 Their houses [are] safe from fear, neither [is] the rod of God upon them.
Ich domy są bezpieczne, bez strachu i nie dotyka ich rózga Boga.
10 Their bull gendereth, and faileth not; their cow calveth, and casteth not her calf.
Ich byk zapładnia i nie zawodzi, ich krowa cieli się i nie roni.
11 They send forth their little ones like a flock, and their children dance.
Wypuszczają swe malutkie [dzieci] jak trzodę, a ich synowie podskakują.
12 They take the timbrel and harp, and rejoice at the sound of the organ.
Chwytają za bęben i harfę i weselą się przy dźwięku fletu.
Spędzają swoje dni w dobrobycie, a w mgnieniu oka zstępują do grobu. (Sheol h7585)
14 Therefore they say to God, Depart from us; for we desire not the knowledge of thy ways.
Dlatego mówią do Boga: Odejdź od nas, bo nie chcemy poznać twoich dróg.
15 What [is] the Almighty, that we should serve him? and what profit should we have, if we pray to him?
Kim jest Wszechmocny, abyśmy mieli mu służyć? Cóż nam pomoże [to], że będziemy się modlić do niego?
16 Lo, their good [is] not in their hand: the counsel of the wicked is far from me.
Oto ich dobra nie są w ich rękach. Rada niegodziwych daleka [jest] ode mnie.
17 How oft is the candle of the wicked put out? and [how oft] cometh their destruction upon them? [God] distributeth sorrows in his anger.
Jak często gaśnie pochodnia niegodziwych? [Jak często] przychodzi na nich zguba? [Bóg] im wydziela cierpienie w swoim gniewie.
18 They are as stubble before the wind, and as chaff that the storm carrieth away.
Są jak słoma na wietrze i jak plewa, którą wicher porywa.
19 God layeth up his iniquity for his children: he rewardeth him, and he shall know [it].
Bóg zachowuje jego nieprawość dla jego synów; odpłaca mu, aby to poczuł.
20 His eyes shall see his destruction, and he shall drink of the wrath of the Almighty.
Jego oczy ujrzą jego nieszczęście i będzie pił z gniewu Wszechmocnego.
21 For what pleasure [hath] he in his house after him, when the number of his months is cut off in the midst?
Jaką bowiem ma on rozkosz w swoim domu, po swojej [śmierci], gdy liczba jego miesięcy zostanie skrócona?
22 Shall [any] teach God knowledge? seeing he judgeth those that are high.
Czy [ktoś] może uczyć Boga wiedzy, wiedząc, że on sam sądzi najwyższych?
23 One dieth in his full strength, being wholly at ease and quiet.
Jeden umiera w pełni swoich sił, bezpieczny ze wszystkich stron i spokojny;
24 His breasts are full of milk, and his bones are moistened with marrow.
Jego piersi są pełne mleka, a jego kości zwilża szpik.
25 And another dieth in the bitterness of his soul, and never eateth with pleasure.
Drugi zaś umiera w goryczy ducha i nigdy nie jadał z uciechą.
26 They shall lie down alike in the dust, and the worms shall cover them.
Razem będą leżeć w prochu i okryją ich robaki.
27 Behold, I know your thoughts, and the devices [which] ye wrongfully imagine against me.
Oto znam wasze myśli i zamiary, [jakie] przeciwko mnie złośliwie obmyślacie.
28 For ye say, Where [is] the house of the prince? and where [are] the dwelling places of the wicked?
Mówicie bowiem: Gdzie [jest] dom księcia? A gdzie mieszkanie niegodziwych?
29 Have ye not asked them that go by the way? and do ye not know their tokens,
Czy nie pytaliście podróżnych? Czy nie chcecie poznać ich znaków;
30 That the wicked is reserved to the day of destruction? they will be brought forth to the day of wrath.
Że niegodziwy jest zachowany na dzień zatracenia? Zostanie przyprowadzony na dzień gniewu.
31 Who shall declare his way to his face? and who shall repay him [what] he hath done?
Któż mu wypomni w oczy jego drogę? A kto mu odpłaci za to, co uczynił?
32 Yet he shall be brought to the grave, and shall remain in the tomb.
Zaprowadzą go do grobu i zostanie w grobowcu.
33 The clods of the valley will be sweet to him, and every man will draw after him, as [there are] innumerable before him.
Słodkie mu będą bryły ziemi z doliny i pociągnie za sobą wszystkich ludzi; a ci, którzy szli przed nim, są niezliczeni.
34 How then comfort ye me in vain, seeing in your answers there remaineth falsehood?
Czemu więc daremnie mnie pocieszacie, skoro w waszych odpowiedziach pozostaje fałsz?
