Deuteronomy 11
1 Therefore thou shalt love the LORD thy God, and keep his charge, and his statutes, and his judgments, and his commandments, always.
Tu aimeras Yahweh, ton Dieu, et tu observeras ce qu'il demande de toi, ses lois, ses ordonnances et ses commandements, tous les jours de ta vie.
2 And know ye this day: for [I speak] not with your children who have not known, and who have not seen the chastisement of the LORD your God, his greatness, his mighty hand, and his out-stretched arm,
Reconnaissez aujourd'hui, — car je ne m'adresse pas à vos enfants, qui ne connaissent pas et qui n'ont pas vu les leçons de Yahweh, votre Dieu, — reconnaissez sa grandeur, sa main forte et son bras étendu;
3 And his miracles, and his acts, which he did in the midst of Egypt, to Pharaoh the king of Egypt, and to all his land;
ses prodiges et ses œuvres qu'il a faits au milieu de l'Egypte, contre Pharaon, roi d'Egypte, et contre tout son pays;
4 And what he did to the army of Egypt, to their horses, and to their chariots; how he made the water of the Red sea to overflow them as they pursued after you, and [how] the LORD hath destroyed them to this day;
ce qu'il a fait à l'armée d'Egypte, à ses chevaux et à ses chars, comment il a précipité sur eux les eaux de la mer Rouge, lorsqu'ils vous poursuivaient, et comment Yahweh les a détruits jusqu'à ce jour.
5 And what he did to you in the wilderness, until ye came to this place;
Reconnaissez ce qu'il a fait pour vous dans le désert, jusqu'à votre arrivée en ce lieu;
6 And what he did to Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab, the son of Reuben: how the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed them up, and their households, and their tents, and all the substance that [was] in their possession, in the midst of all Israel:
ce qu'il a fait à Dathan et Abiron, fils d'Eliab, fils de Ruben, que la terre, ouvrant sa bouche, engloutit, avec leurs maisons, leurs tentes et toutes les personnes de leur suite, au milieu de tout Israël.
7 But your eyes have seen all the great acts of the LORD which he did.
Car vos yeux ont vu toutes les grandes œuvres que Yahweh a faites.
8 Therefore shall ye keep all the commandments which I command you this day, that ye may be strong, and go in and possess the land, whither ye go to possess it;
Vous observerez donc tous les commandements que je vous prescris aujourd'hui, afin que vous soyez forts, que vous entriez et que vous vous rendiez maîtres du pays où vous allez passer pour en prendre possession,
9 And that ye may prolong [your] days in the land which the LORD swore to your fathers to give to them, and to their seed, a land that floweth with milk and honey.
et afin que vous prolongiez vos jours sur la terre que Yahweh a juré à vos pères de leur donner, à eux et à leur postérité, pays où coulent le lait et le miel.
10 For the land, whither thou goest in to possess it, [is] not as the land of Egypt, from whence ye came out, where thou didst sow thy seed, and water [it] with thy foot, as a garden of herbs:
Car le pays où tu vas entrer pour le posséder n'est pas comme le pays d'Egypte, d'où vous êtes sortis, que tu ensemençais et que tu arrosais avec ton pied, comme un jardin potager.
11 But the land, whither ye go to possess it, [is] a land of hills and valleys, [and] drinketh water of the rain of heaven:
Mais le pays où vous allez passer pour le posséder est un pays de montagnes et de vallées, qui boit les eaux de la pluie du ciel;
12 A land which the LORD thy God careth for: the eyes of the LORD thy God [are] always upon it, from the beginning of the year even to the end of the year.
un pays dont Yahweh, ton Dieu, prend soin, et sur lequel Yahweh a continuellement les yeux, depuis le commencement de l'année jusqu'à la fin de l'année.
13 And it shall come to pass, if ye shall hearken diligently to my commandments which I command you this day, to love the LORD your God, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul,
Si vous obéissez à mes commandements que je vous prescris aujourd'hui, aimant Yahweh, votre Dieu, et le servant de tout votre cœur et de toute votre âme,
14 That I will give [you] the rain of your land in its due season, the former rain and the latter rain, that thou mayest gather in thy corn, and thy wine and thy oil.
je donnerai à votre pays la pluie en son temps, la pluie de la première et celle de la dernière saison, et tu recueilleras ton blé, ton vin nouveau et ton huile;
15 And I will give grass in thy fields for thy cattle, that thou mayest eat and be full.
je mettrai aussi de l'herbe dans tes champs pour ton bétail, et tu mangeras et te rassasieras.
16 Take heed to yourselves, that your heart be not deceived, and ye turn aside, and serve other gods, and worship them;
Prenez garde à vous, de peur que votre cœur ne soit séduit, que vous ne vous détourniez et ne serviez d'autres dieux et ne vous prosterniez devant eux.
17 And [then] the LORD'S wrath shall be kindled against you, and he shall shut up the heaven, that there shall be no rain, and the land shall not yield her fruit; and [lest] ye perish quickly from off the good land which the LORD giveth you.
La colère de Yahweh s'enflammerait contre vous; il fermerait le ciel, et il n'y aurait point de pluie; la terre ne donnerait pas ses produits et vous péririez promptement dans le bon pays que Yahweh vous donne.
18 Therefore shall ye lay up these my words in your heart and in your soul, and bind them for a sign upon your hand, that they may be as frontlets between your eyes.
Mettez donc sur votre cœur et sur votre âme ces paroles que je vous dis. Vous les lierez comme un signe sur vos mains, et elles seront comme des fronteaux entre vos yeux.
19 And ye shall teach them to your children, speaking of them when thou sittest in thy house, and when thou walkest by the way, when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.
Vous les enseignerez à vos enfants, et vous leur en parlerez, soit quand tu resteras dans ta maison, ou que tu iras en voyage, soit quand tu te coucheras ou que tu te lèveras.
20 And thou shalt write them upon the door posts of thy house, and upon thy gates:
Tu les écriras sur les poteaux de ta maison et sur tes portes:
21 That your days may be multiplied, and the days of your children, in the land which the LORD swore to your fathers to give to them, as the days of heaven upon the earth.
afin que vos jours et les jours de vos enfants, dans le pays que Yahweh a juré à vos pères de leur donner, soient aussi nombreux que les jours des cieux au-dessus de la terre.
22 For if ye shall diligently keep all these commandments which I command you, to do them, to love the LORD your God, to walk in all his ways, and to cleave to him;
Car si vous observez soigneusement tous ces commandements que je vous prescris d'accomplir, aimant Yahweh, votre Dieu, marchant dans toutes ses voies et vous attachant à lui,
23 Then will the LORD drive out all these nations from before you, and ye shall possess greater nations and mightier than yourselves.
Yahweh chassera toutes ces nations devant vous, et vous vous rendrez maîtres de nations plus grandes et plus puissantes que vous.
24 Every place on which the soles of your feet shall tread shall be yours: from the wilderness, and Lebanon, from the river, the river Euphrates, even to the uttermost sea shall your limit be.
Tout lieu que foulera la plante de vos pieds sera à vous; votre frontière s'étendra du désert au Liban, et du fleuve de l'Euphrate jusqu'à la mer occidentale.
25 There shall no man be able to stand before you: [for] the LORD your God shall lay the fear of you, and the dread of you upon all the land that ye shall tread upon, as he hath said to you.
Nul ne tiendra devant vous; Yahweh, votre Dieu, répandra devant vous, comme il vous l'a dit, la crainte et l'effroi sur tout le pays où vous mettrez le pied.
26 Behold, I set before you this day a blessing and a curse:
Voici que je mets aujourd'hui devant vous une bénédiction et une malédiction:
27 A blessing, if ye obey the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you this day;
la bénédiction, si vous obéissez aux commandements de Yahweh, votre Dieu, que je vous prescris aujourd'hui;
28 And a curse, if ye will not obey the commandments of the LORD your God, but turn aside from the way which I command you this day, to go after other gods which ye have not known.
la malédiction, si vous n'obéissez pas aux commandements de Yahweh, votre Dieu, et si vous vous détournez de la voie que je vous prescris en ce jour, pour aller après d'autres dieux que vous n'avez pas connus.
29 And it shall come to pass when the LORD thy God hath brought thee in to the land whither thou goest to possess it, that thou shalt put the blessing upon mount Gerizim, and the curse upon mount Ebal.
Et lorsque Yahweh, ton Dieu, t'aura fait entrer dans le pays où tu vas pour en prendre possession, tu prononceras la bénédiction sur le mont Garizim, et la malédiction sur le mont Ebal.
30 [Are] they not on the other side of Jordan, by the way where the sun goeth down in the land of the Canaanites, who dwell in the plain over against Gilgal, beside the plains of Moreh?
Ces montagnes ne sont-elles pas de l'autre côté du Jourdain, derrière le chemin de l'occident, au pays des Chananéens qui habitent dans l'Arabah, vis-à-vis de Galgala, près des térébinthes de Moré?
31 For ye shall pass over Jordan to go in to possess the land which the LORD your God giveth you, and ye shall possess it, and dwell in it.
Car vous allez passer le Jourdain pour entrer en possession du pays que Yahweh, votre Dieu, vous donne; vous le posséderez et vous y habiterez.
32 And ye shall observe to do all the statutes and judgments which I set before you this day.
Vous aurez donc soin d'observer toutes les lois et toutes les ordonnances que je mets aujourd'hui devant vous. »
