Proverbs 5
1 My son, attend to my wisdom, and bow thy ear to my understanding:
わが子よ、わたしの知恵に心をとめ、わたしの悟りに耳をかたむけよ。
2 That thou mayest regard discretion, and that thy lips may keep knowledge.
これは、あなたが慎みを守り、あなたのくちびるに知識を保つためである。
3 For the lips of an adulteress drop as an honeycomb, and her mouth is smoother than oil:
遊女のくちびるは蜜をしたたらせ、その言葉は油よりもなめらかである。
4 But her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a twoedged sword.
しかしついには、彼女はにがよもぎのように苦く、もろ刃のつるぎのように鋭くなる。
その足は死に下り、その歩みは陰府の道におもむく。 (Sheol h7585)
6 Lest thou shouldest ponder the path of life, her ways are unstable, that thou canst not know them.
彼女はいのちの道に心をとめず、その道は人を迷わすが、彼女はそれを知らない。
7 Hear me now therefore, O ye children, and depart not from the words of my mouth.
子供らよ、今わたしの言うことを聞け、わたしの口の言葉から、離れ去ってはならない。
8 Remove thy way far from her, and come not near the door of her house:
あなたの道を彼女から遠く離し、その家の門に近づいてはならない。
9 Lest thou give thy honour to others, and thy years to the cruel:
おそらくはあなたの誉を他人にわたし、あなたの年を無慈悲な者にわたすに至る。
10 Lest strangers be filled with thy wealth; and thy labours be in the house of a stranger;
おそらくは他人があなたの資産によって満たされ、あなたの労苦は他人の家に行く。
11 And thou mourn at the last, when thy flesh and thy body are consumed,
そしてあなたの終りが来て、あなたの身と、からだが滅びるとき、泣き悲しんで、
12 And say, How have I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof;
言うであろう、「わたしは教訓をいとい、心に戒めを軽んじ、
13 And have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor inclined my ear to them that instructed me!
教師の声に聞き従わず、わたしを教える者に耳を傾けず、
14 I was almost in all evil in the midst of the congregation and assembly.
集まりの中、会衆のうちにあって、わたしは、破滅に陥りかけた」と。
15 Drink waters out of thy own cistern, and running waters out of thy own well.
あなたは自分の水ためから水を飲み、自分の井戸から、わき出す水を飲むがよい。
16 Let thy fountains be dispersed abroad, and rivers of waters in the streets.
あなたの泉を、外にまきちらし、水の流れを、ちまたに流してよかろうか。
17 Let them be only thy own, and not for strangers with thee.
それを自分だけのものとし、他人を共にあずからせてはならない。
18 Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth.
あなたの泉に祝福を受けさせ、あなたの若い時の妻を楽しめ。
19 Let her be as the loving hind and pleasant roe; let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou ravished always with her love.
彼女は愛らしい雌じか、美しいしかのようだ。いつも、その乳ぶさをもって満足し、その愛をもって常に喜べ。
20 And why wilt thou, my son, be ravished with an adulteress, and embrace the bosom of a stranger?
わが子よ、どうして遊女に迷い、みだらな女の胸をいだくのか。
21 For the ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD, and he pondereth all his goings.
人の道は主の目の前にあり、主はすべて、その行いを見守られる。
22 His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be held with the cords of his sins.
悪しき者は自分のとがに捕えられ、自分の罪のなわにつながれる。
23 He shall die without instruction; and in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray.
彼は、教訓がないために死に、その愚かさの大きいことによって滅びる。
