Proverbs 25
1 These are also proverbs of Solomon, which the men of Hezekiah king of Judah copied out.
Também estes são provérbios de Salomão, os quais transcreveram os homens d'Ezequias, rei de Judá.
2 It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter.
A glória de Deus é encobrir o negócio; mas a glória dos reis esquadrinhar o negócio.
3 The heaven for height, and the earth for depth, and the heart of kings is unsearchable.
Para a altura dos céus, e para a profundeza da terra, e para o coração dos reis, não há investigação.
4 Take away the dross from the silver, and there shall come forth a vessel for the refiner.
Tira da prata as escórias, e sairá vaso para o fundidor.
5 Take away the wicked from before the king, and his throne shall be established in righteousness.
Tira o ímpio da presença do rei, e o seu trono se afirmará na justiça.
6 Put not forth thyself in the presence of the king, and stand not in the place of great men:
Não te glories na presença do rei, nem te ponhas no lugar dos grandes;
7 For better it is that it be said to thee, Come up here; than that thou shouldest be put lower in the presence of the prince whom thy eyes have seen.
Porque melhor é que te digam: Sobe aqui; do que seres humilhado diante do príncipe que já viram os teus olhos.
8 Go not forth hastily to strive, lest thou know not what to do in its end, when thy neighbour hath put thee to shame.
Não saias depressa a litigar, para que depois ao fim não saibas que fazer, podendo-te confundir o teu próximo.
9 Debate thy cause with thy neighbour himself; and reveal not a secret to another:
Pleiteia o teu pleito com o teu próximo, e não descubras o segredo de outro:
10 Lest he that heareth it put thee to shame, and thy infamy turn not away.
Para que não te desonre o que o ouvir, e a tua infâmia se não aparte de ti.
11 A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver.
Como maçãs de ouro em salvas de prata, assim é a palavra dita a seu tempo.
12 As an earring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, so is a wise reprover upon an obedient ear.
Como pendentes de ouro e gargantilhas de ouro fino, assim é o sábio repreensor para o ouvido ouvinte.
13 As the cold of snow in the time of harvest, so is a faithful messenger to them that send him: for he refresheth the soul of his masters.
Como frieza de neve no tempo da sega, assim é o mensageiro fiel para com os que o enviam; porque recreia a alma de seu senhor.
14 Whoever boasteth himself of a false gift is like clouds and wind without rain.
Como nuvens e ventos que não trazem chuva, assim é o homem que se gaba falsamente de dádivas.
15 By long forbearing is a prince persuaded, and a soft tongue breaketh the bone.
Pela longanimidade se persuade o príncipe, e a língua branda quebranta os ossos.
16 Hast thou found honey? eat so much as is sufficient for thee, lest thou be filled with it, and vomit it.
Achaste mel? come o que te basta; para que porventura não te fartes dele, e o venhas a vomitar.
17 Withdraw thy foot from thy neighbour’s house; lest he be weary of thee, and so hate thee.
Retira o teu pé da casa do teu próximo; para que se não enfade de ti, e te aborreça.
18 A man that beareth false witness against his neighbour is a club, and a sword, and a sharp arrow.
Martelo, e espada, e flecha aguda é o homem que diz falso testemunho contra o seu próximo.
19 Confidence in an unfaithful man in time of trouble is like a broken tooth, and a foot out of joint.
Como dente quebrado, e pé desengonçado, é a confiança no desleal, no tempo da angústia.
20 As he that taketh away a garment in cold weather, and as vinegar upon soda, so is he that singeth songs to an heavy heart.
O que canta canções ao coração aflito é como aquele que despe o vestido num dia de frio, e como vinagre sobre salitre.
21 If thy enemy shall hunger, give him bread to eat; and if he shall thirst, give him water to drink:
Se o que te aborrece tiver fome, dá-lhe pão para comer; e se tiver sede, dá-lhe água para beber;
22 For thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the LORD shall reward thee.
Porque assim brazas lhe amontoarás sobre a cabeça; e o Senhor to pagará.
23 The north wind driveth away rain: so doth an angry countenance a backbiting tongue.
O vento norte afugenta a chuva, e a face irada a língua fingida.
24 It is better to dwell in a corner of the housetop, than with a brawling woman and in a wide house.
Melhor é morar num canto do terraço, do que com a mulher contenciosa, e isso em casa em que mais companhia haja.
25 As cold waters to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country.
Como água fria à alma cançada, tais são as boas novas de terra remota.
26 A righteous man falling down before the wicked is as a troubled fountain, and a corrupt spring.
Como fonte turva, e manancial corrupto, assim é o justo que cai diante do ímpio.
27 It is not good to eat much honey: so for men to search their own glory is not glory.
Comer muito mel não é bom; assim a pesquiza da própria glória não é glória.
28 He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.
Como a cidade derribada, sem muro, assim é o homem que não pode conter o seu espírito.
