Proverbs 20
1 Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whoever is deceived by it is not wise.
Вино - глумливо, сикера - буйна; и всякий, увлекающийся ими, неразумен.
2 The fear of a king is as the roaring of a lion: whoever provoketh him to anger sinneth against his own soul.
Гроза царя - как бы рев льва: кто раздражает его, тот грешит против самого себя.
3 It is an honour for a man to cease from strife: but every fool will be meddling.
Честь для человека - отстать от ссоры; а всякий глупец задорен.
4 The sluggard will not plow by reason of the cold; therefore shall he beg in harvest, and have nothing.
Ленивец зимою не пашет: поищет летом - и нет ничего.
5 Counsel in the heart of man is like deep water; but a man of understanding will draw it out.
Помыслы в сердце человека - глубокие воды, но человек разумный вычерпывает их.
6 Most men will proclaim every one his own goodness: but a faithful man who can find?
Многие хвалят человека за милосердие, но правдивого человека кто находит?
7 The just man walketh in his integrity: his children are blessed after him.
Праведник ходит в своей непорочности: блаженны дети его после него!
8 A king that sitteth on the throne of judgment scattereth away all evil with his eyes.
Царь, сидящий на престоле суда, разгоняет очами своими все злое.
9 Who can say, I have made my heart clean, I am pure from my sin?
Кто может сказать: “Я очистил мое сердце, я чист от греха моего?”
10 Differing weights, and differing measures, both of them are alike abomination to the LORD.
Неодинаковые весы, неодинаковая мера, то и другое мерзость пред Господом.
11 Even a child is known by his doings, whether his work is pure, and whether it is right.
Можно узнать даже отрока по занятиям его, чисто ли и правильно ли будет поведение его.
12 The hearing ear, and the seeing eye, the LORD hath made even both of them.
Ухо слышащее и глаз видящий - и то и другое создал Господь.
13 Love not sleep, lest thou come to poverty; open thy eyes, and thou shalt be satisfied with bread.
Не люби спать, чтобы тебе не обеднеть; держи открытыми глаза твои, и будешь досыта есть хлеб.
14 It is nothing, it is nothing, saith the buyer: but when he is gone his way, then he boasteth.
“Дурно, дурно”, говорит покупатель, а когда отойдет, хвалится.
15 There is gold, and an abundance of rubies: but the lips of knowledge are a precious jewel.
Есть золото и много жемчуга, но драгоценная утварь - уста разумные.
16 Take his garment that is surety for a stranger: and take a pledge of him for an adulteress.
Возьми платье его, так как он поручился за чужого; и за стороннего возьми от него залог.
17 Bread of deceit is sweet to a man; but afterwards his mouth shall be filled with gravel.
Сладок для человека хлеб, приобретенный неправдою; но после рот его наполнится дресвою.
18 Every purpose is established by counsel: and with good advice make war.
Предприятия получают твердость чрез совещание, и по совещании веди войну.
19 He that goeth about as a talebearer revealeth secrets: therefore meddle not with him that flattereth with his lips.
Кто ходит переносчиком, тот открывает тайну; и кто широко раскрывает рот, с тем не сообщайся.
20 Whoever curseth his father or his mother, his lamp shall be put out in obscure darkness.
Кто злословит отца своего и свою мать, того светильник погаснет среди глубокой тьмы.
21 An inheritance may be gotten hastily at the beginning; but the end of it shall not be blessed.
Наследство, поспешно захваченное вначале, не благословится впоследствии.
22 Say not thou, I will recompense evil; but wait on the LORD, and he shall save thee.
Не говори: “Я отплачу за зло”; предоставь Господу, и Он сохранит тебя.
23 Differing weights are an abomination to the LORD; and a false balance is not good.
Мерзость пред Господом неодинаковые гири, и неверные весы - не добро.
24 Man’s goings are of the LORD; how can a man then understand his own way?
От Господа направляются шаги человека; человеку же как узнать путь свой?
25 It is a snare to the man who devoureth that which is holy, and after vows to make enquiry.
Сеть для человека - поспешно давать обет, и после обета обдумывать.
26 A wise king scattereth the wicked, and bringeth the wheel over them.
Мудрый царь вывеет нечестивых и обратит на них колесо.
27 The spirit of man is the lamp of the LORD, searching all the inward parts of the belly.
Светильник Господень - дух человека, испытывающий все глубины сердца.
28 Mercy and truth preserve the king: and his throne is upheld by mercy.
Милость и истина охраняют царя, и милостью он поддерживает престол свой.
29 The glory of young men is their strength: and the beauty of old men is the gray head.
Слава юношей - сила их, а украшение стариков - седина.
30 The blueness of a wound cleanseth away evil: so do stripes the inward parts of the belly.
Раны от побоев врачевство против зла, и удары, проникающие во внутренности чрева.
