Numbers 21
1 And when king Arad the Canaanite, who dwelt in the south, heard that Israel came by the way of the spies; then he fought against Israel, and took some of them prisoners.
൧യിസ്രായേൽ അഥാരീംവഴിയായി വരുന്നു എന്ന് തെക്കെ ദേശത്ത് വസിച്ചിരുന്ന കനാന്യനായ അരാദ് രാജാവ് കേട്ടപ്പോൾ അവൻ യിസ്രായേലിനോട് യുദ്ധം തുടങ്ങി ചിലരെ പിടിച്ചുകൊണ്ടുപോയി.
2 And Israel vowed a vow to the LORD, and said, If thou wilt indeed deliver this people into my hand, then I will utterly destroy their cities.
൨അപ്പോൾ യിസ്രായേൽ യഹോവയ്ക്ക് ഒരു നേർച്ചനേർന്നു: “ഈ ജനത്തെ അവിടുന്ന് എന്റെ കയ്യിൽ ഏല്പിച്ചുതരുമെങ്കിൽ ഞാൻ അവരുടെ പട്ടണങ്ങൾ ശപഥാർപ്പിതമായി നശിപ്പിക്കും” എന്ന് യഹോവയോട് ശപഥം ചെയ്തു.
3 And the LORD hearkened to the voice of Israel, and delivered up the Canaanites; and they utterly destroyed them and their cities: and he called the name of the place Hormah.
൩യഹോവ യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ അപേക്ഷ കേട്ട് കനാന്യരെ ഏല്പിച്ചുകൊടുത്തു; അവർ അവരെയും അവരുടെ പട്ടണങ്ങളെയും ശപഥാർപ്പിതമായി നശിപ്പിച്ചു; ആ സ്ഥലത്തിന് ഹോർമ്മാ എന്ന് പേരായി.
4 And they journeyed from mount Hor by the way of the Red sea, to go around the land of Edom: and the soul of the people was much discouraged because of the way.
൪പിന്നെ അവർ ഏദോംദേശത്തെ ചുറ്റിപ്പോകുവാൻ ഹോർ പർവ്വതത്തിൽനിന്ന് ചെങ്കടൽവഴിയായി യാത്ര പുറപ്പെട്ടു; വഴിമദ്ധ്യേ ജനത്തിന്റെ മനസ്സ് ക്ഷീണിച്ച്.
5 And the people spoke against God, and against Moses, Why have ye brought us out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? for there is no bread, neither is there any water; and our soul loatheth this light bread.
൫ജനം ദൈവത്തിനും മോശെക്കും വിരോധമായി സംസാരിച്ചു: “മരുഭൂമിയിൽ മരിക്കേണ്ടതിന് നിങ്ങൾ ഞങ്ങളെ മിസ്രയീംദേശത്തുനിന്ന് കൊണ്ടുവന്നത് എന്തിന്? ഇവിടെ അപ്പവുമില്ല, വെള്ളവുമില്ല; ഈ നിസ്സാരമായ ആഹാരം ഞങ്ങൾക്ക് വെറുപ്പാകുന്നു” എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞു.
6 And the LORD sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and many people of Israel died.
൬അപ്പോൾ യഹോവ ജനത്തിന്റെ ഇടയിൽ അഗ്നിസർപ്പങ്ങളെ അയച്ചു; അവ ജനത്തെ കടിച്ചു; യിസ്രായേലിൽ വളരെ ജനം മരിച്ചു.
7 Therefore the people came to Moses, and said, We have sinned, for we have spoken against the LORD, and against thee; pray to the LORD, that he take away the serpents from us. And Moses prayed for the people.
൭ആകയാൽ ജനം മോശെയുടെ അടുക്കൽ വന്നു; “ഞങ്ങൾ യഹോവയ്ക്കും നിനക്കും വിരോധമായി സംസാരിച്ചതിനാൽ പാപം ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു. സർപ്പങ്ങളെ ഞങ്ങളുടെ ഇടയിൽനിന്ന് നീക്കിക്കളയുവാൻ യഹോവയോട് പ്രാർത്ഥിക്കണം” എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞു; മോശെ ജനത്തിനുവേണ്ടി പ്രാർത്ഥിച്ചു.
8 And the LORD said to Moses, Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole: and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he looketh upon it, shall live.
൮യഹോവ മോശെയോട്: “ഒരു അഗ്നിസർപ്പത്തെ ഉണ്ടാക്കി കൊടിമരത്തിന്മേൽ തൂക്കുക; കടിയേല്ക്കുന്ന വ്യക്തി അതിനെ നോക്കിയാൽ ജീവിക്കും” എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞു.
9 And Moses made a serpent of brass, and put it upon a pole, and it came to pass, that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he beheld the serpent of brass, he lived.
൯അങ്ങനെ മോശെ താമ്രംകൊണ്ട് ഒരു സർപ്പത്തെ ഉണ്ടാക്കി കൊടിമരത്തിന്മേൽ തൂക്കി; പിന്നെ സർപ്പത്തിന്റെ കടിയേറ്റ ആരെങ്കിലും താമ്രസർപ്പത്തെ നോക്കിയാൽ അവൻ ജീവിക്കും.
10 And the children of Israel moved forward, and encamped in Oboth.
൧൦അനന്തരം യിസ്രായേൽ മക്കൾ പുറപ്പെട്ട് ഓബോത്തിൽ പാളയമിറങ്ങി.
11 And they journeyed from Oboth, and encamped at Ijeabarim, in the wilderness which is before Moab, toward the sunrising.
൧൧ഓബോത്തിൽനിന്ന് യാത്ര പുറപ്പെട്ട് സൂര്യോദയത്തിന് നേരെ മോവാബിന്റെ കിഴക്കുള്ള മരുഭൂമിയിൽ ഇയ്യെ-അബാരീമിൽ പാളയമിറങ്ങി.
12 From there they removed, and encamped in the valley of Zared.
൧൨അവിടെനിന്ന് പുറപ്പെട്ട സേരേദ് താഴ്വരയിൽ പാളയമിറങ്ങി.
13 From there they removed, and encamped on the other side of Arnon, which is in the wilderness that cometh out of the borders of the Amorites: for Arnon is the border of Moab, between Moab and the Amorites.
൧൩അവിടെനിന്ന് പുറപ്പെട്ട് അമോര്യരുടെ ദേശത്തുനിന്ന് ഉത്ഭവിച്ച് മരുഭൂമിയിൽക്കൂടി ഒഴുകുന്ന അർന്നോൻതോട്ടിനക്കരെ പാളയമിറങ്ങി; അർന്നോൻ മോവാബിനും അമോര്യർക്കും മദ്ധ്യത്തിൽ മോവാബിന്റെ അതിരായിരുന്നു. അതുകൊണ്ട്:
14 Therefore it is said in the book of the wars of the LORD, What he did in the Red sea, and in the brooks of Arnon,
൧൪“സൂഫയിലെ വാഹേബും അർന്നോൻ താഴ്വരകളും ആരിന്റെ നിവാസത്തോളം നീണ്ടു.
15 And at the stream of the brooks that goeth down to the dwelling of Ar, and lieth upon the border of Moab.
൧൫മോവാബിന്റെ അതിരിനോട് ചാഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്ന താഴ്വരച്ചരിവ്”. എന്നിങ്ങനെ യഹോവയുടെ യുദ്ധപുസ്തകത്തിൽ പറഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു.
16 And from there they went to Beer: that is the well of which the LORD spoke to Moses, Gather the people together, and I will give them water.
൧൬അവിടെനിന്ന് അവർ ബേരിലേക്ക് പോയി; യഹോവ മോശെയോട്: “ജനത്തെ ഒന്നിച്ചുകൂട്ടുക: ഞാൻ അവർക്ക് വെള്ളം കൊടുക്കുമെന്നു കല്പിച്ച കിണർ അത് തന്നെ”.
17 Then Israel sung this song, Spring up, O well; sing ye to it:
൧൭ആ സമയത്ത് യിസ്രായേൽ: “കിണറേ, പൊങ്ങിവാ; അതിന് പാടുവിൻ.
18 The princes searched out the well, the nobles of the people dug it, by the direction of the lawgiver, with their staffs. And from the wilderness they went to Mattanah:
൧൮പ്രഭുക്കന്മാർ കുഴിച്ച കിണർ; ജനശ്രേഷ്ഠന്മാർ ചെങ്കോൽകൊണ്ടും അവരുടെ ദണ്ഡുകൾകൊണ്ടും കുത്തിയ കിണർ” എന്നുള്ള പാട്ട് പാടി.
19 And from Mattanah to Nahaliel: and from Nahaliel to Bamoth:
൧൯പിന്നെ അവർ മരുഭൂമിയിൽനിന്ന് മത്ഥാനയ്ക്കും മത്ഥാനയിൽനിന്ന് നഹലീയേലിനും നഹലീയേലിൽനിന്ന്
20 And from Bamoth in the valley, that is in the country of Moab, to the top of Pisgah, which looketh toward Jeshimon.
൨൦ബാമോത്തിനും ബാമോത്തിൽനിന്ന് മോവാബിലെ താഴ്വരയിലേക്കും മരുഭൂമിക്കെതിരെയുള്ള പിസ്ഗാമുകളിലേക്കും യാത്രചെയ്തു.
21 And Israel sent messengers to Sihon king of the Amorites, saying,
൨൧അവിടെനിന്ന് യിസ്രായേൽ അമോര്യരുടെ രാജാവായ സീഹോന്റെ അടുക്കൽ ദൂതന്മാരെ അയച്ചു:
22 Let me pass through thy land: we will not turn into the fields, or into the vineyards; we will not drink of the waters of the well: but we will go along by the king’s highway, until we have past thy borders.
൨൨“ഞാൻ നിന്റെ ദേശത്തുകൂടി കടന്നുപോകുവാൻ അനുവദിക്കണമേ; ഞങ്ങൾ വയലിലോ മുന്തിരിത്തോട്ടത്തിലോ കയറുകയില്ല, കിണറ്റിലെ വെള്ളം കുടിക്കുകയുമില്ല; ഞങ്ങൾ നിന്റെ അതിർത്തി കഴിയുന്നതുവരെ രാജപാതയിൽ കൂടി തന്നെ പൊയ്ക്കൊള്ളാം” എന്ന് പറയിച്ചു.
23 And Sihon would not permit Israel to pass through his border: but Sihon gathered all his people together, and went out against Israel into the wilderness: and he came to Jahaz, and fought against Israel.
൨൩എന്നാൽ സീഹോൻ തന്റെ ദേശത്തുകൂടി യിസ്രായേൽ കടന്നുപോകുവാൻ സമ്മതിക്കാതെ തന്റെ ജനത്തെയെല്ലാം ഒന്നിച്ചുകൂട്ടി യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ നേരെ മരുഭൂമിയിലേക്ക് പുറപ്പെട്ടു; അവൻ യാഹാസിൽ വന്ന് യിസ്രായേലിനോട് യുദ്ധംചെയ്തു.
24 And Israel smote him with the edge of the sword, and possessed his land from Arnon to Jabbok, even to the children of Ammon: for the border of the children of Ammon was strong.
൨൪യിസ്രായേൽ അവനെ വാളിന്റെ വായ്ത്തലകൊണ്ട് വെട്ടി, അർന്നോൻ മുതൽ യാബ്ബോക്ക്‌വരെയും അമ്മോന്യരുടെ അതിർത്തിവരെയും ഉള്ള അവന്റെ ദേശത്തെ കൈവശമാക്കി; അമ്മോന്യരുടെ അതിര് ഉറപ്പുള്ളത് ആയിരുന്നു.
25 And Israel took all these cities: and Israel dwelt in all the cities of the Amorites, in Heshbon, and in all its villages.
൨൫ഈ പട്ടണങ്ങൾ എല്ലാം യിസ്രായേൽ പിടിച്ചു; അങ്ങനെ യിസ്രായേൽ അമോര്യരുടെ എല്ലാ പട്ടണങ്ങളിലും താമസിച്ചു; ഹെശ്ബോനിലും അതിന്റെ സകല ഗ്രാമങ്ങളിലും അപ്രകാരം തന്നെ.
26 For Heshbon was the city of Sihon the king of the Amorites, who had fought against the former king of Moab, and taken all his land out of his hand, even to Arnon.
൨൬ഹെശ്ബോൻ അമോര്യരുടെ രാജാവായ സീഹോന്റെ നഗരം ആയിരുന്നു; അവൻ മുമ്പിലത്തെ മോവാബ് രാജാവിനോട് യുദ്ധം ചെയ്ത് അർന്നോൻ വരെയുള്ള അവന്റെ ദേശമൊക്കെയും പിടിച്ചെടുത്തിരുന്നു.
27 Therefore they that speak in proverbs say, Come into Heshbon, let the city of Sihon be built and prepared:
൨൭അതുകൊണ്ട് കവിവരന്മാർ പറയുന്നത്: “ഹെശ്ബോനിൽ വരുവിൻ; സീഹോന്റെ നഗരം പണിതുറപ്പിക്കട്ടെ.
28 For there hast a fire gone out of Heshbon, a flame from the city of Sihon: it hath consumed Ar of Moab, and the lords of the high places of Arnon.
൨൮ഹെശ്ബോനിൽനിന്ന് തീയും സീഹോന്റെ നഗരത്തിൽനിന്ന് ജ്വാലയും പുറപ്പെട്ട്, മോവാബിലെ ആരിനെയും അർന്നോൻ തീരത്തെ ഗിരിനിവാസികളെയും ദഹിപ്പിച്ചു.
29 Woe to thee, Moab! thou art undone, O people of Chemosh: he hath given his sons that escaped, and his daughters, into captivity to Sihon king of the Amorites.
൨൯മോവാബേ, നിനക്ക് ഹാ കഷ്ടം! കെമോശിന്റെ ജനമേ, നീ മുടിഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു. അവൻ തന്റെ പുത്രന്മാരെ പലായനത്തിനും പുത്രിമാരെ അമോര്യ രാജാവായ സീഹോന് അടിമയായും കൊടുത്തു.
30 We have shot at them; Heshbon hast perished even to Dibon, and we have laid them waste even to Nophah, which reacheth to Medeba.
൩൦ഞങ്ങൾ അവരെ അമ്പെയ്തു; ദീബോൻവരെ ഹെശ്ബോൻ നശിച്ചു; മെദേവരെയുള്ള നോഫയോളം അവരെ ശൂന്യമാക്കി”.
31 Thus Israel dwelt in the land of the Amorites.
൩൧ഇങ്ങനെ യിസ്രായേൽ അമോര്യരുടെ ദേശത്ത് താമസിച്ചു.
32 And Moses sent to spy out Jaazer, and they took its villages, and drove out the Amorites that were there.
൩൨അനന്തരം മോശെ യസേരിനെ ഒറ്റുനോക്കുവാൻ ആളയച്ച്; അവർ അതിന്റെ ഗ്രാമങ്ങളെ പിടിച്ച് അവിടെയുള്ള അമോര്യരെ ഓടിച്ചുകളഞ്ഞു.
33 And they turned and went up by the way of Bashan: and Og the king of Bashan went out against them, he, and all his people, to the battle at Edrei.
൩൩പിന്നെ അവർ തിരിഞ്ഞ് ബാശാൻ വഴിയായി പോയി; ബാശാൻരാജാവായ ഓഗ് തന്റെ സകലജനവുമായി അവരുടെ നേരെ പുറപ്പെട്ട് എദ്രെയിൽ വച്ച് യുദ്ധംചെയ്തു.
34 And the LORD said to Moses, Fear him not: for I have delivered him into thy hand, and all his people, and his land; and thou shalt do to him as thou didst to Sihon king of the Amorites, who dwelt at Heshbon.
൩൪അപ്പോൾ യഹോവ മോശെയോട്: “അവനെ ഭയപ്പെടണ്ടാ; അവനെയും അവന്റെ സകലജനത്തെയും അവന്റെ ദേശത്തെയും ഞാൻ നിന്റെ കയ്യിൽ ഏല്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു; നീ ഹെശ്ബോനിൽ വസിച്ചിരുന്ന അമോര്യ രാജാവായ സീഹോനോട് ചെയ്തതുപോലെ അവനോടും ചെയ്യും” എന്ന് അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു.
35 So they smote him, and his sons, and all his people, until there was none left to him alive: and they possessed his land.
൩൫അങ്ങനെ അവർ അവനെയും അവന്റെ പുത്രന്മാരെയും അവന്റെ സകലജനത്തെയും നിശ്ശേഷം കൊന്നൊടുക്കി, അവന്റെ ദേശം കൈവശമാക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു.
