< Luke 20 >

1 And it came to pass, that on one of those days, as he taught the people in the temple, and preached the gospel, the chief priests and the scribes came upon him with the elders,
athaikadA yIzu rmanidarE susaMvAdaM pracArayan lOkAnupadizati, Etarhi pradhAnayAjakA adhyApakAH prAnjcazca tannikaTamAgatya papracchuH
2 And spoke to him, saying, Tell us, by what authority doest thou these things? or who is he that gave thee this authority?
kayAjnjayA tvaM karmmANyEtAni karOSi? kO vA tvAmAjnjApayat? tadasmAn vada|
3 And he answered and said to them, I will also ask you one thing; and answer me:
sa pratyuvAca, tarhi yuSmAnapi kathAmEkAM pRcchAmi tasyOttaraM vadata|
4 The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or from men?
yOhanO majjanam Izvarasya mAnuSANAM vAjnjAtO jAtaM?
5 And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say, Why then believed ye him not?
tatastE mithO vivicya jagaduH, yadIzvarasya vadAmastarhi taM kutO na pratyaita sa iti vakSyati|
6 But if we say, From men; all the people will stone us: for they are persuaded that John was a prophet.
yadi manuSyasyEti vadAmastarhi sarvvE lOkA asmAn pASANai rhaniSyanti yatO yOhan bhaviSyadvAdIti sarvvE dRPhaM jAnanti|
7 And they answered, that they could not tell where it was from.
ataEva tE pratyUcuH kasyAjnjayA jAtam iti vaktuM na zaknumaH|
8 And Jesus said to them, Neither do I tell you by what authority I do these things.
tadA yIzuravadat tarhi kayAjnjayA karmmANyEtAti karOmIti ca yuSmAn na vakSyAmi|
9 Then he began to speak to the people this parable; A certain man planted a vineyard, and let it out to vinedressers, and went into a far country for a long time.
atha lOkAnAM sAkSAt sa imAM dRSTAntakathAM vaktumArEbhE, kazcid drAkSAkSEtraM kRtvA tat kSEtraM kRSIvalAnAM hastESu samarpya bahukAlArthaM dUradEzaM jagAma|
10 And at the season he sent a servant to the vinedressers, that they should give him of the fruit of the vineyard: but the vinedressers beat him, and sent him away empty.
atha phalakAlE phalAni grahItu kRSIvalAnAM samIpE dAsaM prAhiNOt kintu kRSIvalAstaM prahRtya riktahastaM visasarjuH|
11 And again he sent another servant: and they beat him also, and treated him shamefully, and sent him away empty.
tataH sOdhipatiH punaranyaM dAsaM prESayAmAsa, tE tamapi prahRtya kuvyavahRtya riktahastaM visasRjuH|
12 And again he sent the third: and they wounded him also, and cast him out.
tataH sa tRtIyavAram anyaM prAhiNOt tE tamapi kSatAggaM kRtvA bahi rnicikSipuH|
13 Then said the lord of the vineyard, What shall I do? I will send my beloved son: it may be when they see him they will reverence him.
tadA kSEtrapati rvicArayAmAsa, mamEdAnIM kiM karttavyaM? mama priyE putrE prahitE tE tamavazyaM dRSTvA samAdariSyantE|
14 But when the vinedressers saw him, they reasoned among themselves, saying, This is the heir: come, let us kill him, that the inheritance may be ours.
kintu kRSIvalAstaM nirIkSya parasparaM vivicya prOcuH, ayamuttarAdhikArI AgacchatainaM hanmastatOdhikArOsmAkaM bhaviSyati|
15 So they cast him out of the vineyard, and killed him. What therefore shall the lord of the vineyard do to them?
tatastE taM kSEtrAd bahi rnipAtya jaghnustasmAt sa kSEtrapatistAn prati kiM kariSyati?
16 He shall come and destroy these vinedressers, and shall give the vineyard to others. And when they heard it, they said, may that never be.
sa Agatya tAn kRSIvalAn hatvA parESAM hastESu tatkSEtraM samarpayiSyati; iti kathAM zrutvA tE 'vadan EtAdRzI ghaTanA na bhavatu|
17 And he beheld them, and said, What is this then that is written, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner?
kintu yIzustAnavalOkya jagAda, tarhi, sthapatayaH kariSyanti grAvANaM yantu tucchakaM| pradhAnaprastaraH kONE sa Eva hi bhaviSyati| Etasya zAstrIyavacanasya kiM tAtparyyaM?
18 Whoever shall fall upon that stone shall be broken; but on whomever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.
aparaM tatpASANOpari yaH patiSyati sa bhaMkSyatE kintu yasyOpari sa pASANaH patiSyati sa tEna dhUlivac cUrNIbhaviSyati|
19 And the chief priests and the scribes the same hour sought to lay hands on him; and they feared the people: for they perceived that he had spoken this parable against them.
sOsmAkaM viruddhaM dRSTAntamimaM kathitavAn iti jnjAtvA pradhAnayAjakA adhyApakAzca tadaiva taM dhartuM vavAnjchuH kintu lOkEbhyO bibhyuH|
20 And they watched him, and sent forth spies, who pretended to be righteous men, that they might take hold of his words, that so they might deliver him to the power and authority of the governor.
ataEva taM prati satarkAH santaH kathaM tadvAkyadOSaM dhRtvA taM dEzAdhipasya sAdhuvEzadhAriNazcarAn tasya samIpE prESayAmAsuH|
21 And they asked him, saying, Master, we know that thou sayest and teachest rightly, neither acceptest thou the person of any, but teachest the way of God truly:
tadA tE taM papracchuH, hE upadEzaka bhavAn yathArthaM kathayan upadizati, kamapyanapEkSya satyatvEnaizvaraM mArgamupadizati, vayamEtajjAnImaH|
22 Is it lawful for us to give tribute to Caesar, or not?
kaisararAjAya karOsmAbhi rdEyO na vA?
23 But he perceived their craftiness, and said to them, Why tempt ye me?
sa tESAM vanjcanaM jnjAtvAvadat kutO mAM parIkSadhvE? mAM mudrAmEkaM darzayata|
24 Show me a penny. Whose image and superscription hath it? They answered and said, Caesar’s.
iha likhitA mUrtiriyaM nAma ca kasya? tE'vadan kaisarasya|
25 And he said to them, Render therefore to Caesar the things which are Caesar’s, and to God the things which are God’s.
tadA sa uvAca, tarhi kaisarasya dravyaM kaisarAya datta; Izvarasya tu dravyamIzvarAya datta|
26 And they could not take hold of his words before the people: and they marvelled at his answer, and held their peace.
tasmAllOkAnAM sAkSAt tatkathAyAH kamapi dOSaM dhartumaprApya tE tasyOttarAd AzcaryyaM manyamAnA mauninastasthuH|
27 Then came to him certain of the Sadducees, who deny that there is any resurrection; and they asked him,
aparanjca zmazAnAdutthAnAnaggIkAriNAM sidUkinAM kiyantO janA Agatya taM papracchuH,
28 Saying, Master, Moses wrote to us, If any man’s brother should die, having a wife, and he should die without children, that his brother should take his wife, and raise up seed to his brother.
hE upadEzaka zAstrE mUsA asmAn pratIti lilEkha yasya bhrAtA bhAryyAyAM satyAM niHsantAnO mriyatE sa tajjAyAM vivahya tadvaMzam utpAdayiSyati|
29 There were therefore seven brothers: and the first took a wife, and died without children.
tathAca kEcit sapta bhrAtara Asan tESAM jyESThO bhrAtA vivahya nirapatyaH prANAn jahau|
30 And the second took her for a wife, and he died childless.
atha dvitIyastasya jAyAM vivahya nirapatyaH san mamAra| tRtIyazca tAmEva vyuvAha;
31 And the third took her; and in like manner the seven also: and they left no children, and died.
itthaM sapta bhrAtarastAmEva vivahya nirapatyAH santO mamruH|
32 Last of all the woman died also.
zESE sA strI ca mamAra|
33 Therefore in the resurrection whose wife of them is she? for seven had her for a wife.
ataEva zmazAnAdutthAnakAlE tESAM saptajanAnAM kasya sA bhAryyA bhaviSyati? yataH sA tESAM saptAnAmEva bhAryyAsIt|
34 And Jesus answering said to them, The children of this world marry, and are given in marriage: (aiōn g165)
tadA yIzuH pratyuvAca, Etasya jagatO lOkA vivahanti vAgdattAzca bhavanti (aiōn g165)
35 But they who shall be accounted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage: (aiōn g165)
kintu yE tajjagatprAptiyOgyatvEna gaNitAM bhaviSyanti zmazAnAccOtthAsyanti tE na vivahanti vAgdattAzca na bhavanti, (aiōn g165)
36 Neither can they die any more: for they are equal to the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection.
tE puna rna mriyantE kintu zmazAnAdutthApitAH santa Izvarasya santAnAH svargIyadUtAnAM sadRzAzca bhavanti|
37 Now that the dead are raised, even Moses showed at the bush, when he calleth the Lord the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.
adhikantu mUsAH stambOpAkhyAnE paramEzvara IbrAhIma Izvara ishAka IzvarO yAkUbazcEzvara ityuktvA mRtAnAM zmazAnAd utthAnasya pramANaM lilEkha|
38 For he is not a God of the dead, but of the living: for all live to him.
ataEva ya IzvaraH sa mRtAnAM prabhu rna kintu jIvatAmEva prabhuH, tannikaTE sarvvE jIvantaH santi|
39 Then certain of the scribes answering said, Master, thou hast well said.
iti zrutvA kiyantOdhyApakA UcuH, hE upadEzaka bhavAn bhadraM pratyuktavAn|
40 And after that they dared not ask him any question at all.
itaH paraM taM kimapi praSTaM tESAM pragalbhatA nAbhUt|
41 And he said to them, How say they that Christ is David’s son?
pazcAt sa tAn uvAca, yaH khrISTaH sa dAyUdaH santAna EtAM kathAM lOkAH kathaM kathayanti?
42 And David himself saith in the book of Psalms, The LORD said to my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand,
yataH mama prabhumidaM vAkyamavadat paramEzvaraH| tava zatrUnahaM yAvat pAdapIThaM karOmi na| tAvat kAlaM madIyE tvaM dakSapArzva upAviza|
43 Till I make thy enemies thy footstool.
iti kathAM dAyUd svayaM gItagranthE'vadat|
44 David therefore calleth him Lord, how is he then his son?
ataEva yadi dAyUd taM prabhuM vadati, tarhi sa kathaM tasya santAnO bhavati?
45 Then in the hearing of all the people he said to his disciples,
pazcAd yIzuH sarvvajanAnAM karNagOcarE ziSyAnuvAca,
46 Beware of the scribes, who desire to walk in long robes, and love greetings in the markets, and the highest seats in the synagogues, and the best places at feasts;
yE'dhyApakA dIrghaparicchadaM paridhAya bhramanti, haTTApaNayO rnamaskArE bhajanagEhasya prOccAsanE bhOjanagRhasya pradhAnasthAnE ca prIyantE
47 Who devour widows’ houses, and for a show make long prayers: the same shall receive greater condemnation.
vidhavAnAM sarvvasvaM grasitvA chalEna dIrghakAlaM prArthayantE ca tESu sAvadhAnA bhavata, tESAmugradaNPO bhaviSyati|
