Luke 2
1 And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed.
Ja tapahtui niinä päivinä, että keisari Augustukselta kävi käsky, että kaikki maailma oli verolle pantava.
2 ( And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.)
Tämä verollepano oli ensimmäinen ja tapahtui Kyreniuksen ollessa Syyrian maaherrana.
3 And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city.
Ja kaikki menivät verolle pantaviksi, kukin omaan kaupunkiinsa.
4 And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; ( because he was of the house and lineage of David: )
Niin Joosefkin lähti Galileasta, Nasaretin kaupungista, ylös Juudeaan, Daavidin kaupunkiin, jonka nimi on Beetlehem, hän kun oli Daavidin huonetta ja sukua,
5 To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.
verolle pantavaksi Marian, kihlattunsa, kanssa, joka oli raskaana.
6 And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered.
Niin tapahtui heidän siellä ollessaan, että Marian synnyttämisen aika tuli.
7 And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.
Ja hän synnytti pojan, esikoisensa, ja kapaloi hänet ja pani hänet seimeen, koska heille ei ollut sijaa majatalossa.
8 And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.

9 And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them: and they were in great fear.
Niin heidän edessään seisoi Herran enkeli, ja Herran kirkkaus loisti heidän ympärillään, ja he peljästyivät suuresti.
10 And the angel said to them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
Mutta enkeli sanoi heille: "Älkää peljätkö; sillä katso, minä ilmoitan teille suuren ilon, joka on tuleva kaikelle kansalle:
11 For to you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord.
teille on tänä päivänä syntynyt Vapahtaja, joka on Kristus, Herra, Daavidin kaupungissa.
12 And this shall be a sign to you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
Ja tämä on teille merkkinä: te löydätte lapsen kapaloituna ja seimessä makaamassa."
13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,
Ja yhtäkkiä oli enkelin kanssa suuri joukko taivaallista sotaväkeä, ja he ylistivät Jumalaa ja sanoivat:
14 Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.
"Kunnia Jumalalle korkeuksissa, ja maassa rauha ihmisten kesken, joita kohtaan hänellä on hyvä tahto!"
15 And it came to pass, when the angels had gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even to Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known to us.
Ja kun enkelit olivat menneet paimenten luota taivaaseen, niin nämä puhuivat toisillensa: "Menkäämme nyt Beetlehemiin katsomaan sitä, mikä on tapahtunut ja minkä Herra meille ilmoitti".
16 And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger.
Ja he menivät kiiruhtaen ja löysivät Marian ja Joosefin ja lapsen, joka makasi seimessä.
17 And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child.
Ja kun he tämän olivat nähneet, ilmoittivat he sen sanan, joka oli puhuttu heille tästä lapsesta.
18 And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds.
Ja kaikki, jotka sen kuulivat, ihmettelivät sitä, mitä paimenet heille puhuivat.
19 But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.
Mutta Maria kätki kaikki nämä sanat ja tutkisteli niitä sydämessänsä.
20 And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told to them.
Ja paimenet palasivat kiittäen ja ylistäen Jumalaa kaikesta, minkä olivat kuulleet ja nähneet, sen mukaan kuin heille oli puhuttu.
21 And when eight days were accomplished for the circumcising of the child, his name was called JESUS, who was so named by the angel before he was conceived in the womb.
Kun sitten kahdeksan päivää oli kulunut ja lapsi oli ympärileikattava, annettiin hänelle nimi Jeesus, jonka enkeli oli hänelle antanut, ennenkuin hän sikisi äitinsä kohdussa.
22 And when the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were accomplished, they brought him to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord;
Ja kun heidän puhdistuspäivänsä, Mooseksen lain mukaan, olivat täyttyneet, veivät he hänet ylös Jerusalemiin asettaaksensa hänet Herran eteen
23 ( As it is written in the law of the Lord, Every male that openeth the womb shall be called holy to the Lord; )
-niinkuin on kirjoitettuna Herran laissa: "Jokainen miehenpuoli, joka avaa äidinkohdun, luettakoon Herralle pyhitetyksi" -
24 And to offer a sacrifice according to that which is said in the law of the Lord, A pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons.
ja uhrataksensa, niinkuin Herran laissa on säädetty, parin metsäkyyhkysiä tai kaksi kyyhkysenpoikaa.
25 And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was righteous and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Spirit was upon him.
Ja katso, Jerusalemissa oli mies, nimeltä Simeon; hän oli hurskas ja jumalinen mies, joka odotti Israelin lohdutusta, ja Pyhä Henki oli hänen päällänsä.
26 And it was revealed to him by the Holy Spirit, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord’s Christ.
Ja Pyhä Henki oli hänelle ilmoittanut, ettei hän ollut näkevä kuolemaa, ennenkuin oli nähnyt Herran Voidellun.
27 And he came by the Spirit into the temple: and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him after the custom of the law,
Ja hän tuli Hengen vaikutuksesta pyhäkköön. Ja kun vanhemmat toivat Jeesus-lasta sisälle tehdäkseen hänelle, niinkuin tapa oli lain mukaan,
28 Then he took him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said,
otti hänkin hänet syliinsä ja kiitti Jumalaa ja sanoi:
29 Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word:
"Herra, nyt sinä lasket palvelijasi rauhaan menemään, sanasi mukaan;
30 For my eyes have seen thy salvation,
sillä minun silmäni ovat nähneet sinun autuutesi,
31 Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people;
jonka sinä olet valmistanut kaikkien kansojen nähdä,
32 A light to enlighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel.
valkeudeksi, joka on ilmestyvä pakanoille, ja kirkkaudeksi kansallesi Israelille".
33 And Joseph and his mother marvelled at those things which were spoken concerning him.
Ja hänen isänsä ja äitinsä ihmettelivät sitä, mitä hänestä sanottiin.
34 And Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary his mother, Behold, this child is set for the fall and rising again of many in Israel; and for a sign which shall be spoken against;
Ja Simeon siunasi heitä ja sanoi Marialle, hänen äidilleen: "Katso, tämä on pantu lankeemukseksi ja nousemukseksi monelle Israelissa ja merkiksi, jota vastaan sanotaan
35 ( And, a sword shall pierce through thy own soul also, ) that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.

36 And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher: she was of a great age, and had lived with an husband seven years from her virginity;
Ja oli naisprofeetta, Hanna, Fanuelin tytär, Asserin sukukuntaa. Hän oli jo tullut iälliseksi. Mentyään neitsyenä naimisiin hän oli elänyt miehensä kanssa seitsemän vuotta,
37 And she was a widow of about eighty and four years, who departed not from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day.
ja oli nyt leski, kahdeksankymmenen neljän vuoden ikäinen. Hän ei poistunut pyhäköstä, vaan palveli siellä Jumalaa paastoilla ja rukouksilla yötä ja päivää.
38 And she coming in that instant gave thanks likewise to the Lord, and spoke of him to all them that looked for redemption in Jerusalem.
Ja juuri sillä hetkellä hän tuli siihen, ylisti Jumalaa ja puhui lapsesta kaikille, jotka odottivat Jerusalemin lunastusta.
39 And when they had performed all things according to the law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee, to their own city Nazareth.
Ja täytettyään kaiken, mikä Herran lain mukaan oli tehtävä, he palasivat Galileaan, kaupunkiinsa Nasaretiin.
40 And the child grew, and became strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon him.
Ja lapsi kasvoi ja vahvistui ja täyttyi viisaudella, ja Jumalan armo oli hänen päällänsä.
41 Now his parents went to Jerusalem every year at the feast of the passover.
Ja hänen vanhempansa matkustivat joka vuosi Jerusalemiin pääsiäisjuhlille.
42 And when he was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem according to the custom of the feast.
Hänen ollessaan kaksitoistavuotias he niinikään vaelsivat ylös sinne juhlan tavan mukaan.
43 And when they had fulfilled the days, as they returned, the child Jesus tarried behind in Jerusalem; and Joseph and his mother knew not of it.
Ja kun ne päivät olivat kuluneet ja he lähtivät kotiin, jäi poikanen Jeesus Jerusalemiin, eivätkä hänen vanhempansa sitä huomanneet.
44 But they, supposing him to be in the company, went a day’s journey; and they sought him among their kinsfolk and acquaintance.
He luulivat hänen olevan matkaseurueessa ja kulkivat päivänmatkan ja etsivät häntä sukulaisten ja tuttavien joukosta;
45 And when they found him not, they returned to Jerusalem, seeking him.
mutta kun eivät löytäneet, palasivat he Jerusalemiin etsien häntä.
46 And it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, both hearing them, and asking them questions.
Ja kolmen päivän kuluttua he löysivät hänet pyhäköstä, jossa hän istui opettajain keskellä kuunnellen heitä ja kysellen heiltä.
47 And all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers.
Ja kaikki, jotka häntä kuulivat, ihmettelivät hänen ymmärrystänsä ja vastauksiansa.
48 And when they saw him, they were amazed: and his mother said to him, Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us? behold, thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing.
Ja hänet nähdessään hänen vanhempansa hämmästyivät, ja hänen äitinsä sanoi hänelle: "Poikani, miksi meille näin teit? Katso, sinun isäsi ja minä olemme huolestuneina etsineet sinua."
49 And he said to them, How is it that ye sought me? knew ye not that I must be about my Father’s business?
Niin hän sanoi heille: "Mitä te minua etsitte? Ettekö tienneet, että minun pitää niissä oleman, mitkä minun Isäni ovat?"
50 And they understood not the saying which he spoke to them.
Mutta he eivät ymmärtäneet sitä sanaa, jonka hän heille puhui.
51 And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject to them: but his mother kept all these sayings in her heart.
Ja hän lähti heidän kanssansa ja tuli Nasaretiin ja oli heille alamainen. Ja hänen äitinsä kätki kaikki nämä sanat sydämeensä.
52 And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.
Ja Jeesus varttui viisaudessa ja iässä ja armossa Jumalan ja ihmisten edessä.
