Judges 18

1 In those days there was no king in Israel: and in those days the tribe of the Danites sought for themselves an inheritance to dwell in; for to that day all their inheritance had not fallen to them among the tribes of Israel.

En aquellos días no había rey en Israel: y en aquellos días la tribu de Dan buscaba posesión para sí donde morase: porque hasta entonces no le había caído su suerte entre las tribus de Israel por heredad.

2 And the children of Dan sent of their family five men from their land, men of valour, from Zorah, and from Eshtaol, to spy out the land, and to search it; and they said to them, Go, search the land: who when they came to mount Ephraim, to the house of Micah, they lodged there.

Y los hijos de Dan enviaron de su tribu cinco hombres de sus términos, hombres valientes, de Saraa y de Estaol, para que reconociesen y considerasen bien la tierra, y dijéronles: Id, y reconocéd la tierra. Estos vinieron al monte de Efraím, hasta la casa de Micas, y posaron allí.

3 When they were by the house of Micah, they knew the voice of the young man the Levite: and they turned in there, and said to him, Who brought thee here? and what makest thou in this place? and what hast thou here?

Y como estaban cerca de la casa de Micas, reconocieron la voz del mancebo Levita: y llegándose allá, dijéronle: ¿Quién te ha traído por acá? ¿y qué haces aquí? ¿y qué tienes tú por aquí?

4 And he said to them, Thus and thus dealeth Micah with me, and hath hired me, and I am his priest.

Y él les respondió: De esta y de esta manera ha hecho conmigo Micas: y él me ha cogido para que sea su sacerdote.

5 And they said to him, Ask counsel, we pray thee, of God, that we may know whether our way which we go shall be prosperous.

Y ellos le dijeron: Pregunta pues ahora a Dios para que sepamos si ha de prosperar nuestro viaje que hacemos.

6 And the priest said to them, Go in peace: before the LORD is your way in which ye go.

Y el sacerdote les respondió: Id en paz, que vuestro viaje que hacéis, es delante de Jehová.

7 Then the five men departed, and came to Laish, and saw the people that were in it, how they dwelt careless, after the manner of the Zidonians, quiet and secure; and there was no magistrate in the land, that might put them to shame in any thing; and they were far from the Zidonians, and had no business with any man.

Entonces aquellos cinco varones se partieron, y vinieron a Lais: y vieron que el pueblo, que habitaba en ella, estaba seguro, conforme a la costumbre de los de Sidón, ocioso y confiado: no había nadie en aquella región que los perturbase en cosa ninguna para poseer aquel reino: demás de esto estaban lejos de los Sidonios, y no tenían negocios con ningunos hombres.

8 And they came to their brethren to Zorah and Eshtaol: and their brethren said to them, What say ye?

Volviendo pues ellos a sus hermanos en Saraa y Estaol, sus hermanos les dijeron: ¿Qué hay? y ellos respondieron:

9 And they said, Arise, that we may go up against them: for we have seen the land, and, behold, it is very good: and are ye still? be not slothful to go, and to enter to possess the land.

Levantáos, subamos contra ellos: porque nosotros hemos considerado la región, y he aquí que es muy buena; y vosotros os estáis quedos. No seáis perezosos para andar a ir a poseer la tierra.

10 When ye go, ye shall come to a people secure, and to a large land: for God hath given it into your hands; a place where there is no want of any thing that is on the earth.

Cuando allá llegareis, vendréis a una gente segura, y a una tierra de ancho asiento; pues que Dios la ha entregado en vuestras manos; lugar es donde no hay falta de cosa que sea en la tierra.

11 And there went from there of the family of the Danites, out of Zorah and out of Eshtaol, six hundred men appointed with weapons of war.

Y partiendo los de Dan de allí de Saraa y de Estaol, seiscientos hombres armados de armas de guerra,

12 And they went up, and encamped in Kirjathjearim, in Judah: therefore they called that place Mahanehdan to this day: behold, it is behind Kirjathjearim.

Vinieron, y asentaron campo en Cariat-jarim, que es en Judá, de donde aquel lugar fue llamado, el campo de Dan, hasta hoy: está detrás de Cariat-jarim.

13 And they passed from there to mount Ephraim, and came to the house of Micah.

Y pasando de allí al monte de Efraím, vinieron hasta la casa de Micas.

14 Then answered the five men that went to spy out the country of Laish, and said to their brethren, Do ye know that there is in these houses an ephod, and teraphim, and a graven image, and a molten image? now therefore consider what ye have to do.

Y dijeron aquellos cinco varones, que habían ido a reconocer la tierra de Lais, a sus hermanos: ¿No sabéis como en estas casas hay efod, y terafim, e imagen de talla y de fundición? Mirád pues lo que habéis de hacer.

15 And they turned aside there, and came to the house of the young man the Levite, even to the house of Micah, and greeted him.

Y llegándose allá, vinieron a la casa del mancebo Levita en casa de Micas; y preguntáronle como estaba.

16 And the six hundred men appointed with their weapons of war, who were of the children of Dan, stood by the entrance of the gate.

Y los seiscientos hombres, que eran de los hijos de Dan, estaban armados de sus armas de guerra a la entrada de la puerta.

17 And the five men that went to spy out the land went up, and came in there, and took the graven image, and the ephod, and the teraphim, and the molten image: and the priest stood in the entrance of the gate with the six hundred men that were appointed with weapons of war.

Y subiendo los cinco varones que habían ido a reconocer la tierra, vinieron allá, y tomaron la imagen de talla, y el efod, y el terafim, y la imagen de fundición, estando el sacerdote a la entrada de la puerta con los seiscientos hombres armados de armas de guerra.

18 And these went into Micah’s house, and brought the carved image, the ephod, and the teraphim, and the molten image. Then said the priest to them, What do ye?

Entrando pues aquellos en la casa de Micas, tomaron la imagen de talla, el efod, y el terafim, y la imagen de fundición: y el sacerdote les dijo; ¿Qué hacéis vosotros?

19 And they said to him, Hold thy peace, lay thy hand upon thy mouth, and go with us, and be to us a father and a priest: is it better for thee to be a priest to the house of one man, or that thou shouldest be a priest to a tribe and a family in Israel?

Y ellos le respondieron: Calla, pon la mano sobre tu boca; y vente con nosotros para que seas nuestro padre y sacerdote. ¿Es mejor que seas tú sacerdote en casa de un hombre solo, que de una tribu y familia de Israel?

20 And the priest’s heart was glad, and he took the ephod, and the teraphim, and the graven image, and went in the midst of the people.

Y el corazón del sacerdote se alegró: el cual tomando el efod, y el terafim, y la imagen se vino entre la gente.

21 So they turned and departed, and put the little ones and the cattle and the possessions before them.

Y ellos tornaron, y fuéronse, y pusieron los niños, y el ganado y bagaje delante de sí.

22 And when they were a good way from the house of Micah, the men that were in the houses near to Micah’s house were gathered together, and overtook the children of Dan.

Y cuando ya se habían alejado de la casa de Micas, los hombres que habitaban en las casas, que estaban cerca de la casa de Micas, se juntaron, y siguieron a los hijos de Dan.

23 And they cried to the children of Dan. And they turned their faces, and said to Micah, What aileth thee, that thou comest with such a company?

Y dando voces a los de Dan, los de Dan tornando sus rostros, dijeron a Micas: ¿Qué tienes que has juntado gente?

24 And he said, Ye have taken away my gods which I made, and the priest, and ye have gone away: and what have I more? and what is this that ye say to me, What aileth thee?

Y él respondió: Mis dioses que yo hice, que me lleváis juntamente con el sacerdote, y os vais, ¿qué más me queda? ¿y a qué propósito me decís: Qué tienes?

25 And the children of Dan said to him, Let not thy voice be heard among us, lest angry fellows rush upon thee, and thou lose thy life, with the lives of thy household.

Y los hijos de Dan le dijeron: No des voces tras nosotros; porque los varones enojados, no os acometan, y pierdas también tu vida, y la vida de los tuyos.

26 And the children of Dan departed: and when Micah saw that they were too strong for him, he turned and went back to his house.

Y yéndose los hijos de Dan su camino, y viendo Micas que eran más fuertes que él, volvióse y vínose a su casa.

27 And they took the things which Micah had made, and the priest which he had, and came to Laish, to a people that were at quiet and secure: and they smote them with the edge of the sword, and burnt the city with fire.

Y ellos llevando las cosas que había hecho Micas, juntamente con el sacerdote que tenía, vinieron en Lais al pueblo reposado y seguro, y pasáronlos a cuchillo, y quemaron la ciudad a fuego.

28 And there was no deliverer, because it was far from Zidon, and they had no business with any man; and it was in the valley that lieth by Bethrehob. And they built a city, and dwelt in it.

Y no hubo nadie que los defendiese: porque estaban lejos de Sidón, y no tenían comercio con ningún hombre. Y la ciudad estaba asentada en el valle que está en Betroob. Y reedificaron la ciudad, y habitaron en ella.

29 And they called the name of the city Dan, after the name of Dan their father, who was born to Israel: but the name of the city was Laish at the first.

Y llamaron el nombre de aquella ciudad Dan, conforme al nombre de Dan su padre, hijo de Israel, llamándose ciertamente antes la ciudad Lais.

30 And the children of Dan set up the graven image: and Jonathan, the son of Gershom, the son of Manasseh, he and his sons were priests to the tribe of Dan until the day of the captivity of the land.

Y los hijos de Dan se levantaron imagen de talla, y Jonatán hijo de Gersón, hijo de Manasés, él y sus hijos fueron sacerdotes en la tribu de Dan, hasta el día de transmigración de la tierra.

31 And they set up for themselves Micah’s graven image, which he made, all the time that the house of God was in Shiloh.

Y levantáronse la imagen de Micas, la cual él había hecho todo el tiempo que la casa de Dios estuvo en Silo.
