Judges 18

1 In those days there was no king in Israel: and in those days the tribe of the Danites sought for themselves an inheritance to dwell in; for to that day all their inheritance had not fallen to them among the tribes of Israel.

ಆ ದಿವಸಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲಿನೊಳಗೆ ಅರಸನಿರಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಆ ದಿವಸಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ದಾನನ ಗೋತ್ರದವರು ವಾಸವಾಗಿರುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ತಮಗೆ ಬಾಧ್ಯತೆಯನ್ನು ಹುಡುಕುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ಅಂದಿನವರೆಗೆ ಅವರಿಗೆ ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲ್ ಗೋತ್ರಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಪೂರ್ಣವಾಗಿ ಬಾಧ್ಯತೆ ದೊರೆತಿರಲಿಲ್ಲ.

2 And the children of Dan sent of their family five men from their land, men of valour, from Zorah, and from Eshtaol, to spy out the land, and to search it; and they said to them, Go, search the land: who when they came to mount Ephraim, to the house of Micah, they lodged there.

ದಾನರು ದೇಶವನ್ನು ಸಂಚರಿಸಿ ನೋಡಿ, ಪರಿಶೋಧಿಸುವುದಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ತಮ್ಮ ಮೇರೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಚೊರ್ಗದಿಂದಲೂ, ಎಷ್ಟಾವೋಲಿನಿಂದಲೂ ತಮ್ಮ ಕುಟುಂಬದಲ್ಲಿ ಪರಾಕ್ರಮಶಾಲಿಗಳಾದ ಐದು ಮಂದಿಯನ್ನು ಕರೆದು, ಅವರ ಸಂಗಡ, “ನೀವು ಹೋಗಿ ದೇಶವನ್ನು ಸಂಚರಿಸಿ ನೋಡಿರಿ,” ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿ ಕಳುಹಿಸಿದರು. ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ಇವರು ಎಫ್ರಾಯೀಮ್ ಬೆಟ್ಟದಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಮೀಕನ ಮನೆಯ ಬಳಿಗೆ ಬಂದು ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಇಳಿದುಕೊಂಡರು.

3 When they were by the house of Micah, they knew the voice of the young man the Levite: and they turned in there, and said to him, Who brought thee here? and what makest thou in this place? and what hast thou here?

ಅವರು ಮೀಕನ ಮನೆಯ ಬಳಿಯಲ್ಲಿರುವಾಗ, ಲೇವಿಯ ಯುವಕನ ಸ್ವರ ಗುರುತಿಸಿ, ಅವನ ಬಳಿಗೆ ಹೋಗಿ, “ನಿನ್ನನ್ನು ಇಲ್ಲಿಗೆ ಕರೆದುಕೊಂಡು ಬಂದವನು ಯಾರು? ಇಲ್ಲಿ ನೀನು ಏನು ಮಾಡುತ್ತೀ? ಏಕೆ ನೀನು ಇಲ್ಲಿರುವೆ?” ಎಂದರು.

4 And he said to them, Thus and thus dealeth Micah with me, and hath hired me, and I am his priest.

ಅವನು ಅವರಿಗೆ, “ಮೀಕನು ನನಗೆ ಹೀಗೆ ನಡೆಸುತ್ತಾ, ನನ್ನನ್ನು ಸಂಬಳಕ್ಕೆ ಇಟ್ಟುಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದಾನೆ. ನಾನು ಅವನಿಗೆ ಯಾಜಕನಾಗಿದ್ದೇನೆ,” ಎಂದನು.

5 And they said to him, Ask counsel, we pray thee, of God, that we may know whether our way which we go shall be prosperous.

ಆಗ ಅವರು ಅವನಿಗೆ, “ನಾವು ಹೋಗುವ ನಮ್ಮ ಮಾರ್ಗವು ಸಫಲವಾಗುವುದೋ? ಎಂದು ತಿಳಿಯುವ ಹಾಗೆ ದಯಮಾಡಿ ದೇವರನ್ನು ಕೇಳು,” ಎಂದರು.

6 And the priest said to them, Go in peace: before the LORD is your way in which ye go.

ಆ ಯಾಜಕನು, “ಸಮಾಧಾನವಾಗಿ ಹೋಗಿರಿ. ನೀವು ಹೋಗುವ ನಿಮ್ಮ ಮಾರ್ಗಕ್ಕೆ ಯೆಹೋವ ದೇವರ ಒಪ್ಪಿಗೆ ಇದೆ,” ಎಂದನು.

7 Then the five men departed, and came to Laish, and saw the people that were in it, how they dwelt careless, after the manner of the Zidonians, quiet and secure; and there was no magistrate in the land, that might put them to shame in any thing; and they were far from the Zidonians, and had no business with any man.

ಆಗ ಆ ಐದು ಮಂದಿಯು ಹೊರಟು ಲಯಿಷಿಗೆ ಹೋಗಿ, ಅದರಲ್ಲಿ ವಾಸಿಸಿರುವ ಆ ಜನರನ್ನು ನೋಡುವಾಗ, ಅವರು ನಿರ್ಭೀತರಾಗಿಯೂ, ಸೀದೋನ್ಯರ ಹಾಗೆ ನೆಮ್ಮದಿಯಾಗಿಯೂ, ಸುರಕ್ಷಿತವಾಗಿಯೂ ಇದ್ದರು. ಅವರಿಗೆ ಯಾವ ಕೊರತೆಯು ಇರಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಅವರು ಸಮೃದ್ಧಿಯಲ್ಲಿದ್ದರು. ಸೀದೋನ್ಯರಿಂದ ದೂರವಾಗಿ ಜೀವಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ಬೇರೆ ಯಾರೊಂದಿಗೂ ಸಂಬಂಧವನ್ನು ಬೆಳೆಸಿರಲಿಲ್ಲ.

8 And they came to their brethren to Zorah and Eshtaol: and their brethren said to them, What say ye?

ಅವರು ಚೊರ್ಗದಲ್ಲಿಯೂ, ಎಷ್ಟಾವೋಲಿನಲ್ಲಿಯೂ ಇರುವ ಸಹೋದರರ ಬಳಿಗೆ ತಿರುಗಿ ಬಂದರು. ಅವರ ಸಹೋದರರಾದ ದಾನರು ಅವರಿಗೆ, “ನೀವು ಯಾವ ವರ್ತಮಾನ ತಂದಿದ್ದೀರಿ?” ಎಂದರು.

9 And they said, Arise, that we may go up against them: for we have seen the land, and, behold, it is very good: and are ye still? be not slothful to go, and to enter to possess the land.

ಅದಕ್ಕವರು, “ನಾವು ಅವರಿಗೆ ವಿರೋಧವಾಗಿ ಯುದ್ಧಮಾಡುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ಹೋಗುವಹಾಗೆ ಏಳಿರಿ; ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ನಾವು ಆ ದೇಶವನ್ನು ನೋಡಿದೆವು; ಅದು ಬಹಳ ಚೆನ್ನಾಗಿದೆ. ನೀವು ಏನನ್ನಾದರೂ ಮಾಡಲು ಹೋಗುತ್ತೀರಾ? ಆ ದೇಶದಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರವೇಶಿಸಿ, ಅದನ್ನು ಸ್ವಾಧೀನಮಾಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ಹೋಗುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ತಡಮಾಡಬೇಡಿರಿ.

10 When ye go, ye shall come to a people secure, and to a large land: for God hath given it into your hands; a place where there is no want of any thing that is on the earth.

ನೀವು ಅಲ್ಲಿಗೆ ತಲುಪಿದಾಗ, ಸಂಶಯಪಡದ ಜನರನ್ನು ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಕಾಣುವಿರಿ. ಅದು ವಿಸ್ತಾರವಾದ ದೇಶವಾಗಿದೆ. ದೇವರು ಅದನ್ನು ನಿಮ್ಮ ಕೈಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಒಪ್ಪಿಸಿಕೊಟ್ಟಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಆ ಪ್ರದೇಶದಲ್ಲಿ ಯಾವ ಕೊರತೆಯು ಇರುವುದಿಲ್ಲ,” ಎಂದರು.

11 And there went from there of the family of the Danites, out of Zorah and out of Eshtaol, six hundred men appointed with weapons of war.

ಆಗ ಚೊರ್ಗದಲ್ಲಿಯೂ, ಎಷ್ಟಾವೋಲಿನಲ್ಲಿಯೂ ಇರುವ ದಾನನ ಗೋತ್ರದವರಲ್ಲಿ ಆರುನೂರು ಜನರು ಯುದ್ಧಕ್ಕೆ ತಕ್ಕ ಆಯುಧಗಳನ್ನು ಕಟ್ಟಿಕೊಂಡು, ಅಲ್ಲಿಂದ ಹೊರಟುಹೋಗಿ,

12 And they went up, and encamped in Kirjathjearim, in Judah: therefore they called that place Mahanehdan to this day: behold, it is behind Kirjathjearim.

ಯೆಹೂದದಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಕಿರ್ಯತ್ ಯಾರೀಮಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಇಳಿದುಕೊಂಡರು. ಆ ಸ್ಥಳಕ್ಕೆ ಈ ದಿನದವರೆಗೂ ಮಹನೇ ದಾನ್ ಎಂಬ ಹೆಸರಿದೆ.

13 And they passed from there to mount Ephraim, and came to the house of Micah.

ಅದು ಕಿರ್ಯತ್ ಯಾರೀಮಿನ ಹಿಂದೆ ಇರುವುದು. ಅಲ್ಲಿಂದ ಅವರು ಎಫ್ರಾಯೀಮ್ ಬೆಟ್ಟಕ್ಕೆ ಹೋಗಿ, ಮೀಕನ ಮನೆಯವರೆಗೆ ಬಂದರು.

14 Then answered the five men that went to spy out the country of Laish, and said to their brethren, Do ye know that there is in these houses an ephod, and teraphim, and a graven image, and a molten image? now therefore consider what ye have to do.

ಆಗ ಲಯಿಷಿನ ದೇಶವನ್ನು ಸಂಚರಿಸಿ ನೋಡಿ ಬಂದ ಆ ಐದು ಮಂದಿ ಜನರು ತಮ್ಮ ಸಹೋದರರಿಗೆ ಉತ್ತರಕೊಟ್ಟು, “ಈ ಮನೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಏಫೋದೂ, ಪ್ರತಿಮೆಗಳೂ, ಕೆತ್ತಿದ ವಿಗ್ರಹವೂ, ಎರಕದ ವಿಗ್ರಹವೂ ಉಂಟೆಂದು ನಿಮಗೆ ಗೊತ್ತುಂಟೋ? ನೀವು ಈಗ ಮಾಡಬೇಕಾದದ್ದೇನೆಂದು ತಿಳಿದುಕೊಳ್ಳಿರಿ,” ಎಂದರು.

15 And they turned aside there, and came to the house of the young man the Levite, even to the house of Micah, and greeted him.

ಅವರು ಅಲ್ಲಿಗೆ ಹೋಗಿ ಮೀಕನ ಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಯುವಕನಾದ ಲೇವಿಯನ ಬಳಿಗೆ ಬಂದು ಅವನ ಕ್ಷೇಮಸಮಾಚಾರವನ್ನು ವಿಚಾರಿಸತೊಡಗಿದರು.

16 And the six hundred men appointed with their weapons of war, who were of the children of Dan, stood by the entrance of the gate.

ಯುದ್ಧದ ಆಯುಧಗಳನ್ನು ಕಟ್ಟಿಕೊಂಡ ದಾನನ ಗೋತ್ರದವರಾದ ಆರುನೂರು ಮಂದಿಯು ಬಾಗಿಲ ಬಳಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ನಿಂತರು.

17 And the five men that went to spy out the land went up, and came in there, and took the graven image, and the ephod, and the teraphim, and the molten image: and the priest stood in the entrance of the gate with the six hundred men that were appointed with weapons of war.

ಆದರೆ ದೇಶವನ್ನು ಸಂಚರಿಸಿ ನೋಡಿ ಬಂದ ಆ ಐದು ಮಂದಿ ಒಳಗೆ ಹೋಗಿ, ಕೆತ್ತಿದ ವಿಗ್ರಹವನ್ನೂ, ಏಫೋದನ್ನೂ, ಪ್ರತಿಮೆಗಳನ್ನೂ, ಎರಕದ ವಿಗ್ರಹವನ್ನೂ ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಂಡರು. ಆಗ ಯಾಜಕನೂ, ಯುದ್ಧದ ಆಯುಧಗಳನ್ನು ಕಟ್ಟಿಕೊಂಡ ಆರುನೂರು ಜನರೂ ಬಾಗಿಲ ಬಳಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ನಿಂತಿದ್ದರು.

18 And these went into Micah’s house, and brought the carved image, the ephod, and the teraphim, and the molten image. Then said the priest to them, What do ye?

ಅವರು ಮೀಕನ ಮನೆಗೆ ಬಂದು, ಏಫೋದನ್ನೂ, ಪ್ರತಿಮೆಗಳನ್ನೂ, ಕೆತ್ತಿದ ವಿಗ್ರಹವನ್ನೂ, ಎರಕದ ವಿಗ್ರಹವನ್ನೂ ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಂಡಾಗ, ಯಾಜಕನು ಅವರಿಗೆ, “ನೀವು ಏನು ಮಾಡುತ್ತೀರಿ?” ಎಂದನು.

19 And they said to him, Hold thy peace, lay thy hand upon thy mouth, and go with us, and be to us a father and a priest: is it better for thee to be a priest to the house of one man, or that thou shouldest be a priest to a tribe and a family in Israel?

ಅವರು ಅವನಿಗೆ, “ನೀನು ಸುಮ್ಮನೆ ಇರು; ನಿನ್ನ ಬಾಯಿ ಮುಚ್ಚಿಕೊಂಡು ನಮ್ಮ ಸಂಗಡ ಬಂದು, ನಮಗೆ ತಂದೆಯಾಗಿಯೂ, ಯಾಜಕನಾಗಿಯೂ ಇರು. ನೀನು ಒಬ್ಬನ ಮನೆಗೆ ಯಾಜಕನಾಗಿರುವುದು ಒಳ್ಳೆಯದೋ ಅಥವಾ ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು ಗೋತ್ರಕ್ಕೂ, ಒಂದು ಕುಟುಂಬಕ್ಕೂ ಯಾಜಕನಾಗಿರುವುದು ಒಳ್ಳೆಯದೋ?” ಎಂದರು.

20 And the priest’s heart was glad, and he took the ephod, and the teraphim, and the graven image, and went in the midst of the people.

ಆಗ ಯಾಜಕನು ಸಂತೋಷಪಟ್ಟು ಏಫೋದನ್ನೂ, ಪ್ರತಿಮೆಗಳನ್ನೂ, ಕೆತ್ತಿದ ವಿಗ್ರಹವನ್ನೂ ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಂಡು ಜನರ ಮಧ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಹೋದನು.

21 So they turned and departed, and put the little ones and the cattle and the possessions before them.

ಅವರು ತಿರುಗಿಕೊಂಡು ಹೊರಟು, ಚಿಕ್ಕವರನ್ನೂ, ಸಲಕರಣೆಗಳನ್ನೂ, ಪಶುಗಳನ್ನೂ ತಮಗೆ ಮುಂದಾಗಿ ಕಳುಹಿಸಿದರು.

22 And when they were a good way from the house of Micah, the men that were in the houses near to Micah’s house were gathered together, and overtook the children of Dan.

ಅವರು ಮೀಕನ ಮನೆಯಿಂದ ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ದೂರ ಹೋದಾಗ, ಮೀಕನ ಮನೆಯ ಸುತ್ತಲೂ ನೆರೆಮನೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಇರುವ ಮನುಷ್ಯರು ಕೂಡಿಕೊಂಡು ದಾನರನ್ನು ಹಿಂದಟ್ಟಿ, ಅವರನ್ನು ಕೂಗಿ ಕರೆದರು.

23 And they cried to the children of Dan. And they turned their faces, and said to Micah, What aileth thee, that thou comest with such a company?

ದಾನರು ತಮ್ಮ ಮುಖ ತಿರುಗಿಸಿ ಮೀಕನಿಗೆ, “ನೀನು ಗುಂಪು ಕೂಡಿಕೊಂಡು ಬರಲು ನಿನಗೆ ಏನಾಯಿತು?” ಎಂದರು.

24 And he said, Ye have taken away my gods which I made, and the priest, and ye have gone away: and what have I more? and what is this that ye say to me, What aileth thee?

ಅವನು, “ನಾನು ಮಾಡಿಕೊಂಡ ನನ್ನ ದೇವರುಗಳನ್ನೂ, ಯಾಜಕನನ್ನೂ ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಂಡು ಹೋದಿರಿ. ಇನ್ನು ನನಗೆ ಏನಿದೆ? ನೀವು ನನ್ನನ್ನು, ‘ನಿನಗೆ ಏನಾಯಿತೆಂದು ಕೇಳುವುದೇನು?’ ಎಂದನು.”

25 And the children of Dan said to him, Let not thy voice be heard among us, lest angry fellows rush upon thee, and thou lose thy life, with the lives of thy household.

ಆದರೆ ದಾನನ ಮಕ್ಕಳು ಅವನಿಗೆ, “ಕೋಪಿಷ್ಟರು ನಿನ್ನ ಮೇಲೆ ಬೀಳದ ಹಾಗೆ ನೀನು ನಿನ್ನ ಪ್ರಾಣವನ್ನೂ, ನಿನ್ನ ಮನೆಯವರ ಪ್ರಾಣವನ್ನೂ ಕಳೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳದ ಹಾಗೆ ನಿನ್ನ ಶಬ್ದ ನಮಗೆ ಕೇಳಿಸದೆ ಇರಲಿ,” ಎಂದರು.

26 And the children of Dan departed: and when Micah saw that they were too strong for him, he turned and went back to his house.

ದಾನನ ಮಕ್ಕಳು ತಮ್ಮ ಮಾರ್ಗವಾಗಿ ಹೋದರು. ಆಗ ಮೀಕನು, ಅವರು ತನಗಿಂತ ಬಲಿಷ್ಠರೆಂದು ಕಂಡು, ತಿರುಗಿಕೊಂಡು ತನ್ನ ಮನೆಗೆ ಹೋದನು.

27 And they took the things which Micah had made, and the priest which he had, and came to Laish, to a people that were at quiet and secure: and they smote them with the edge of the sword, and burnt the city with fire.

ಅವರು ಮೀಕನು ಮಾಡಿಕೊಂಡವುಗಳನ್ನೂ, ಅವನಿಗಿದ್ದ ಯಾಜಕನನ್ನೂ ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಂಡು ವಿಶ್ರಾಂತಿಯಿಂದಲೂ, ಭರವಸದಿಂದಲೂ ಇದ್ದ ಲಯಿಷಿನ ಜನರ ಮೇಲೆ ಬಂದು, ಅವರನ್ನು ಖಡ್ಗದಿಂದ ಹೊಡೆದು, ಆ ಪಟ್ಟಣವನ್ನು ಬೆಂಕಿಯಿಂದ ಸುಟ್ಟುಬಿಟ್ಟರು.

28 And there was no deliverer, because it was far from Zidon, and they had no business with any man; and it was in the valley that lieth by Bethrehob. And they built a city, and dwelt in it.

ಅದು ಸೀದೋನಿಗೆ ದೂರವಾಗಿದ್ದುದರಿಂದಲೂ, ಯಾವ ಮನುಷ್ಯನ ಸಂಗಡಲಾದರೂ ಅವರಿಗೆ ಕೆಲಸವಿಲ್ಲದ್ದರಿಂದಲೂ ಅವರನ್ನು ಕಾಪಾಡಲು ಯಾರೂ ಇರಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಆ ಪಟ್ಟಣವು ಬೇತ್‌ರೆಹೋಬಿಗೆ ಸಮೀಪವಾದ ತಗ್ಗಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಇತ್ತು. ಈ ಪಟ್ಟಣವನ್ನು ದಾನ್ಯರು ಪುನಃ ಕಟ್ಟಿಸಿ ಅದರಲ್ಲಿ ವಾಸಿಸಿದರು.

29 And they called the name of the city Dan, after the name of Dan their father, who was born to Israel: but the name of the city was Laish at the first.

ಮೊದಲು ಆ ಪಟ್ಟಣಕ್ಕೆ ಲಯಿಷೆಂಬ ಹೆಸರಿತ್ತು. ಈಗ ದಾನ್ಯರು ಆ ಪಟ್ಟಣಕ್ಕೆ ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲನಿಗೆ ಹುಟ್ಟಿದ ತಮ್ಮ ಮೂಲಪುರುಷನಾದ ದಾನನ ಹೆಸರಿನ ಪ್ರಕಾರ ದಾನ್ ಎಂದು ಹೆಸರಿಟ್ಟರು.

30 And the children of Dan set up the graven image: and Jonathan, the son of Gershom, the son of Manasseh, he and his sons were priests to the tribe of Dan until the day of the captivity of the land.

ಅಲ್ಲಿ ದಾನ್ಯರು ಕೆತ್ತಿದ ವಿಗ್ರಹವನ್ನು ತಮಗಾಗಿ ಸ್ಥಾಪಿಸಿಕೊಂಡರು. ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲರು ಸೆರೆಯಾಗಿ ಹೋಗುವವರೆಗೆ ಮೋಶೆಯ ಮೊಮ್ಮಗನೂ, ಗೇರ್ಷೋಮನ ಮಗನೂ ಆದ ಯೋನಾತಾನನೂ ಅವನ ವಂಶದವರೂ ಅವನ ಮಕ್ಕಳೂ ದಾನನ ಗೋತ್ರದವರಿಗೆ ಯಾಜಕರಾಗಿದ್ದರು.

31 And they set up for themselves Micah’s graven image, which he made, all the time that the house of God was in Shiloh.

ದೇವರ ಮನೆ ಶೀಲೋವಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಇರುವ ಮಟ್ಟಿಗೂ, ಅವರು ಮೀಕನು ಮಾಡಿದ ವಿಗ್ರಹವನ್ನು ಇಟ್ಟುಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದರು.
