Joshua 7
1 But the children of Israel committed a trespass in the accursed thing: for Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took of the accursed thing: and the anger of the LORD was kindled against the children of Israel.
১কিন্তু ইস্রায়েল-সন্তানেরা বাতিল বস্তুর বিষয়ে আদেশ অমান্য করল; তার ফলে যিহূদাবংশীয় সেরহের সন্তান সব্দির সন্তান কর্ম্মির পুত্র আখন বাতিল জিনিসের কিছু অংশ চুরি করল; তাতে ইস্রায়েল-সন্তানদের প্রতি সদাপ্রভুর ক্রোধ খুব বেড়ে গেল।
2 And Joshua sent men from Jericho to Ai, which is beside Bethaven, on the east side of Bethel, and spoke to them, saying, Go up and view the country. And the men went up and viewed Ai.
২আর যিহোশূয় যিরীহো থেকে বৈথেলের পূর্বদিকে অবস্থিত বৈৎ-আবনের পাশে অয়ে লোক পাঠালেন, তাদেরকে বললেন, “তোমরা উঠে গিয়ে দেশ পর্যবেক্ষণ কর।” তাতে তারা গিয়ে অয় পর্যবেক্ষণ করল।
3 And they returned to Joshua, and said to him, Let not all the people go up; but let about two or three thousand men go up and smite Ai; and make not all the people to labour there; for they are but few.
৩পরে তারা যিহোশূয়ের কাছে ফিরে এসে বলল, “সে জায়গায় সব লোক না গিয়ে, দুই কিম্বা তিন হাজার লোক উঠে গিয়ে অয় পরাজয় করুক; সেই জায়গায় সব লোকের কষ্ট করার দরকার নেই, কারণ সেখানকার লোক অল্প।”
4 So there went up there from the people about three thousand men: and they fled before the men of Ai.
৪অতএব লোকদের মধ্য থেকে প্রায় তিন হাজার জন সেই জায়গায় গেল, কিন্তু তারা অয়ের লোকদের সামনে থেকে পালাল।
5 And the men of Ai smote of them about thirty and six men: for they chased them from before the gate even to Shebarim, and smote them in the going down: therefore the hearts of the people melted, and became as water.
৫আর অয়ের লোকেরা তাদের মধ্যে প্রায় ছত্রিশ জনকে আঘাত করল; নগরের দরজা থেকে শবারীম পর্যন্ত তাদেরকে তাড়না করে নিচে নামার পথে আঘাত করল, তাতে লোকদের হৃদয় গলে গিয়ে জলের মত হল।
6 And Joshua tore his clothes, and fell to the earth upon his face before the ark of the LORD until the evening, he and the elders of Israel, and put dust upon their heads.
৬তখন যিহোশূয় ও ইস্রায়েলের প্রাচীনবর্গ নিজের নিজের বস্ত্র চিরে সদাপ্রভুর সিন্দুকের সামনে মুখ নিচু করে সন্ধ্যা পর্যন্ত ভূমিতে পরে থাকলেন এবং নিজের নিজের মাথায় ধূলো ছড়ালেন।
7 And Joshua said, Alas, O Lord GOD, why hast thou at all brought this people over Jordan, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to destroy us? O that we had been content, and dwelt on the other side of Jordan!
৭আর যিহোশূয় বললেন, “হায় হায়, হে প্রভু সদাপ্রভু, বিনাশের জন্য ইমোরীয়দের হাতে আমাদের সমর্পণ করবার জন্য তুমি কেন এই লোকদেরকে যর্দ্দন পার করে আনলে? হায় হায়, আমরা কেন সন্তুষ্ট হয়ে যর্দ্দনের ওপাড়ে থাকিনি।
8 O Lord, what shall I say, when Israel turneth their backs before their enemies!
৮হে প্রভু, ইস্রায়েল নিজের শত্রুদের সামনে থেকে চলে গেলে আমি কি বলব?
9 For the Canaanites and all the inhabitants of the land shall hear of it, and shall surround us, and cut off our name from the earth: and what wilt thou do to thy great name?
৯কনানীয়েরা এবং দেশবাসী সমস্ত লোক এই কথা শুনবে, আর আমাদের ঘিরে ধরে পৃথিবী থেকে আমাদের নাম উচ্ছেদ করবে, তাহলে তুমি আপন মহানামের জন্য কি করবে?”
10 And the LORD said to Joshua, Arise; why liest thou thus upon thy face?
১০তখন সদাপ্রভু যিহোশূয়কে বললেন, “তুমি ওঠ, কেন তুমি মুখ নিচু করে পরে আছ?
11 Israel hath sinned, and they have also transgressed my covenant which I commanded them: for they have even taken of the accursed thing, and have also stolen, and deceived also, and they have put it even among their own goods.
১১ইস্রায়েল পাপ করেছে, এমন কি, তারা আমার আদেশ দেওয়া নিয়ম অমান্য করেছে; এমন কি, তারা সেই বাতিল জিনিসের কিছু নিয়েছে; আবার চুরি করেছে, আবার প্রতারণা করেছে, আবার নিজেদের জিনিসপত্রের মধ্যে তা রেখেছে।
12 Therefore the children of Israel could not stand before their enemies, but turned their backs before their enemies, because they were accursed: neither will I be with you any more, except ye destroy the accursed from among you.
১২এই জন্য ইস্রায়েল-সন্তানরা নিজেদের শত্রুদের সামনে দাঁড়াতে পারে না, শত্রুদের সামনে থেকে চলে যায়, কারণ তারা বাতিল হয়েছে; তোমাদের মধ্য থেকে সেই বাতিল জিনিসকে দূর না করলে আমি আর তোমাদের সঙ্গে থাকব না।
13 Rise, sanctify the people, and say, Sanctify yourselves for to morrow: for thus saith the LORD God of Israel, There is an accursed thing in the midst of thee, O Israel: thou canst not stand before thy enemies, until ye take away the accursed thing from among you.
১৩ওঠ, লোকেদের পবিত্র কর, বল, তোমরা কালকের জন্য পবিত্র হও, কারণ ইস্রায়েলের ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভু এই কথা বলেন, ‘হে ইস্রায়েল, তোমার মধ্যে থেকে বাতিল জিনিস দূর না করলে তুমি নিজের শত্রুদের সামনে দাঁড়াতে পারবে না।
14 In the morning therefore ye shall be brought according to your tribes: and it shall be, that the tribe which the LORD taketh shall come according to their families; and the family which the LORD shall take shall come by households; and the household which the LORD shall take shall come man by man.
১৪অতএব সকালে নিজেদের বংশ অনুসারে তোমাদের কাছে নিয়ে আসা হবে; তাতে সদাপ্রভুর মাধ্যমে যে বংশকে মনোনীত করা হবে, সেই বংশের এক এক গোষ্ঠী কাছে আসবে ও সদাপ্রভুর মাধ্যমে যে বংশকে মনোনীত করা হবে, তার এক এক কুল কাছে আসবে ও সদাপ্রভুর মাধ্যমে যে কুলকে মনোনীত করা হবে, তার এক এক পুরুষ কাছে আসবে।
15 And it shall be, that he that is taken with the accursed thing shall be burnt with fire, he and all that he hath: because he hath transgressed the covenant of the LORD, and because he hath wrought folly in Israel.
১৫আর যে ব্যক্তি বাতিল জিনিস রেখেছে বলে ধরা পড়বে, তাকে ও তার সম্পর্কীয় সকলকেই আগুনে পুড়িয়ে দিতে হবে, কারণ সে সদাপ্রভুর নিয়ম অমান্য করেছে ও ইস্রায়েলের মধ্যে মূর্খতার কাজ করেছে’।”
16 So Joshua rose early in the morning, and brought Israel by their tribes; and the tribe of Judah was taken:
১৬পরে যিহোশূয় খুব ভোরে উঠে ইস্রায়েলকে নিজের নিজের বংশ অনুসারে কাছে আনলেন; তাতে যিহূদা-বংশ ধরা পড়ল;
17 And he brought the family of Judah; and he took the family of the Zarhites: and he brought the family of the Zarhites man by man; and Zabdi was taken:
১৭পরে তিনি যিহূদার গোষ্ঠীর সবাইকে কাছে আনলে সেরহীয় গোষ্ঠী ধরা পড়ল; পরে তিনি সেরহীয় গোষ্ঠীকে পুরুষ অনুসারে নিয়ে এলে সব্দি ধরা পড়ল।
18 And he brought his household man by man; and Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, was taken.
১৮পরে তিনি তার কুলকে পুরুষানুসারে আনলে যিহূদা-বংশীয় সেরহের সন্তান সব্দির সন্তান কর্ম্মির পুত্র আখন ধরা পড়ল।
19 And Joshua said to Achan, My son, give, I pray thee, glory to the LORD God of Israel, and make confession to him; and tell me now what thou hast done; hide it not from me.
১৯তখন যিহোশূয় আখনকে বললেন, “হে আমার বৎস, অনুরোধ করি, তুমি ইস্রায়েলের ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভুর মহিমা স্বীকার কর, তাঁর স্তব (স্তুতি) কর; এবং তুমি কি করেছ, আমাকে বল; আমার কাছে গোপন করো না।”
20 And Achan answered Joshua, and said, Indeed I have sinned against the LORD God of Israel, and thus and thus have I done:
২০আখন উত্তর করে যিহোশূয়কে বলল, “সত্য আমি ইস্রায়েলের ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভুর বিরুদ্ধে পাপ করেছি, আমি এই এই কাজ করেছি;
21 When I saw among the spoils a beautiful Babylonish garment, and two hundred shekels of silver, and a wedge of gold of fifty shekels weight, then I coveted them, and took them; and, behold, they are hid in the earth in the midst of my tent, and the silver under it.
২১আমি লুট করা দ্রব্যের মধ্যে ভালো একটি বাবিলীয় শাল, দুশো শেকল রূপা ও পঞ্চাশ শেকল পরিমাপের সোনা দেখে লোভে পড়ে চুরি করেছি; আর দেখুন, সে সকল আমার তাঁবুর মধ্যে মাটিতে লুকান আছে, আর নীচে রূপা আছে।”
22 So Joshua sent messengers, and they ran to the tent; and, behold, it was hid in his tent, and the silver under it.
২২তখন যিহোশূয় দূত পাঠালে তারা তার তাঁবুতে দৌড়ে গেল, আর দেখ, তার তাঁবুর মধ্যে তা লুকান আছে, আর নীচে রূপা ছিল।
23 And they took them from the midst of the tent, and brought them to Joshua, and to all the children of Israel, and laid them out before the LORD.
২৩আর তারা তাঁবুর মধ্য থেকে সে সমস্ত কিছু নিয়ে যিহোশূয়ের ও সমস্ত ইস্রায়েল সন্তানদের কাছে আনল এবং সদাপ্রভুর সামনে তা রাখল।
24 And Joshua, and all Israel with him, took Achan the son of Zerah, and the silver, and the garment, and the wedge of gold, and his sons, and his daughters, and his oxen, and his donkeys, and his sheep, and his tent, and all that he had: and they brought them to the valley of Achor.
২৪পরে যিহোশূয় ও সমস্ত ইস্রায়েল সেরহের সন্তান আখনকে ও সেই রূপা, শাল, সোনা ও তার ছেলে ও মেয়েদের এবং তার গরু, গাধা, ভেড়া ও তাঁবু এবং তার যা কিছু ছিল, সমস্তই নিলেন; আর আখোর উপত্যকায় আনলেন।
25 And Joshua said, Why hast thou troubled us? the LORD shall trouble thee this day. And all Israel stoned him with stones, and burned them with fire, after they had stoned them with stones.
২৫পরে যিহোশূয় বললেন, “তুমি আমাদের কেন ব্যাকুল করলে? আজ সদাপ্রভু তোমাকে ব্যাকুল করবেন।” পরে সমস্ত ইস্রায়েল তাকে পাথর দিয়ে আঘাত করল; তারা তাদেরকে আগুনে পোড়াল ও পাথর দিয়ে আঘাত করল।
26 And they raised over him a great heap of stones to this day. So the LORD turned from the fierceness of his anger. Therefore the name of that place was called, The valley of Achor, to this day.
২৬পরে তারা তার উপরে পাথর জমা করল, তা আজ পর্যন্ত আছে। এই ভাবে সদাপ্রভু নিজের প্রচণ্ড ক্রোধ থেকে শান্ত হলেন। অতএব সেই স্থান আজ পর্যন্ত আখোর [ব্যাকুলতা] উপত্যকা নামে পরিচিত।
