John 7
1 After these things Jesus walked in Galilee: for he would not walk in Judaea, because the Jews sought to kill him.
第一款 幕屋祭に往き給ふ ユデア人が殺さんと謀れるに因り、イエズス其後はユデアを巡ることを好み給はず、ガリレアを巡り給ひしが、
2 Now the Jews’ feast of tabernacles was at hand.
ユデア人の幕屋の祝日近づきければ、
3 His brethren therefore said to him, Depart from here, and go into Judaea, that thy disciples also may see the works that thou doest.
兄弟等イエズスに向ひ、汝の行へる業を弟子等に見せん為、此處を去りてユデアに往け、
4 For there is no man that doeth any thing in secret, and he himself seeketh to be known openly. If thou doest these things, show thyself to the world.
蓋公に知れん事を求めながら、而も窃に事を為す人はあらず、斯る事を為す上は己を世を顕せかし、と云へり。
5 For neither did his brethren believe in him.
是其兄弟等も之を信ぜざりし故なり。
6 Then Jesus said to them, My time is not yet come: but your time is always ready.
然ればイエズス彼等に曰ひけるは、汝等の時は恒に備はれども、我時は未だ至らず、
7 The world cannot hate you; but me it hateth, because I testify concerning it, that its works are evil.
世は汝等を憎む能はざるに我をば憎めり、其は我之に就きて、其所業の惡きことを證すればなり、
8 Go ye up to this feast: I go not up yet to this feast; for my time is not yet full come.
汝等は此祭日に上れ、我時未だ満たざれば、我は此祭日に上らず、と。
9 When he had said these words to them, he abode still in Galilee.
斯く曰ひてガリレアに留り給ひしが、
10 But when his brethren had gone up, then he went also to the feast, not openly, but as it were in secret.
兄弟等の上りたる後、自らも顕ならず忍びたる様にて祭日に上り給へり。
11 Then the Jews sought him at the feast, and said, Where is he?
然れば祭日に當りて、ユデア人、彼は何處に居るぞとて之を探し、
12 And there was much murmuring among the people concerning him: for some said, He is a good man: others said, Nay; but he deceiveth the people.
又群衆の中に之に就きて囁く者多かりき。即ち或人は彼は善人なりと謂ひ、或人は否人民を惑はすのみと謂ひ居たり、
13 Yet no man spoke openly of him for fear of the Jews.
然れど孰もユデア人の懼ろしさに、彼に就きて顕に語る人なかりき。
14 Now about the midst of the feast Jesus went up into the temple, and taught.
斯て祭日の半に、イエズス[神]殿に上りて教へ給ひければ、
15 And the Jews marvelled, saying, How knoweth this man letters, having never learned?
ユデア人驚嘆して、彼曾て學ばざるに如何にして文字を知れるぞ、と云ひ居たるを、
16 Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me.
イエズス彼等に答へて曰ひけるは、我教は我のに非ず、我を遣はし給ひし者の[教]なり。
17 If any man will do his will, he shall know concerning the doctrine, whether it is from God, or whether I speak from myself.
其思召を肯て為さん人は、此教が神よりせるか又は我が私を以て言へるかを暁らん。
18 He that speaketh from himself seeketh his own glory: but he that seeketh his glory that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him.
己が私を以て語る人は己の光榮を求むれども、己を遣わしし者の光榮を求むる人は、眞實にして衷に不義ある事なし。
19 Did not Moses give you the law, and yet none of you keepeth the law? Why go ye about to kill me?
モイゼは律法を汝等に授けしに、汝等の中に之を行ふ者なきは何ぞや、
20 The people answered and said, Thou hast a demon: who goeth about to kill thee?
汝等如何ぞ我を殺さんとは謀る、と。群衆答へて、汝は惡魔に憑かれたり、誰か汝を殺さんとはする、と云ひしかば、
21 Jesus answered and said to them, I have done one work, and ye all marvel.
イエズス答へて曰ひけるは、我一の業を為ししに汝等皆之を訝れり、
22 Moses therefore gave to you circumcision; ( not because it is from Moses, but from the fathers; ) and ye on the sabbath circumcise a man.
夫モイゼ割禮を汝等に授けたれば、――モイゼより出しに非ずして先祖より出でたるものなるに、――汝等安息日にも人に割禮を行ひ、
23 If a man on the sabbath receiveth circumcision, that the law of Moses should not be broken; are ye angry at me, because I have restored a man to sound health on the sabbath?
モイゼの律法を破らじとて、人は安息日にも割禮を受くるに、我が安息日に人の全身を醫したればとて、汝等の我を憤るは何ぞや。
24 Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.
外見によりて是非すること無く、正しき判断によりて是非を定めよ、と。
25 Then said some of them of Jerusalem, Is not this he, whom they seek to kill?
是に於てエルザレムの或人々言ひけるは、是人々が殺さんと謀れる者に非ずや、
26 But, lo, he speaketh boldly, and they say nothing to him. Do the rulers know indeed that this is the very Christ?
看よ公然と談話すれども人は之に何をも言はず。司等は彼がキリストたる事を眞に認めたるか、
27 But we know this man where he is from: but when Christ cometh, no man knoweth where he is from.
然りながら我等は此人の何處の者なるかを知れり、キリストの來る時には其何處よりせるかを知る人あらじ、と。
28 Then cried Jesus in the temple as he taught, saying, Ye both know me, and ye know where I am from: and I am not come of myself, but he that sent me is true, whom ye know not.
然るにイエズス神殿にて呼はりつつ教へて曰ひけるは、汝等は我を知り、亦我が何處より來れるかを知れり、然れども我は己によりて來りたるには非ず、我を遣はし給ひし者は眞實にて在す、汝等は之を知らず、
29 But I know him: for I am from him, and he hath sent me.
我は之を知れり、其は我彼より出でて、彼我を遣はし給ひたればなり、と。
30 Then they sought to take him: but no man laid hands on him, because his hour was not yet come.
是に於て彼等イエズスを捕へんと謀れども、誰も手を掛くる者なかりき、其は彼が時未だ至らざればなり。
31 And many of the people believed on him, and said, When Christ cometh, will he do more miracles than these which this man hath done?
然れど人民の中には之を信じたる者多く、キリスト來ればとて豈此人の為すより多くの奇蹟を為さんや、と云ひ居たり。
32 The Pharisees heard that the people murmured such things concerning him; and the Pharisees and the chief priests sent officers to take him.
人民がイエズスに就きて斯く囁ける由ファリザイ人の耳に入りしかば、司祭長とファリザイ人とは、下役等を遣はしてイエズスを捕へしめんとせしを、
33 Then said Jesus to them, Yet a little while am I with you, and then I go to him that sent me.
イエズス彼等に曰ひけるは、我尚暫く汝等と共に居て、然て我を遣し給し者の御許に之かんとす、
34 Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am, there ye cannot come.
汝等我を尋ぬべけれど而も我に遇はじ、我が居る處には汝等來る事能はず、と。
35 Then said the Jews among themselves, Where will he go, that we shall not find him? will he go to the dispersed among the Gentiles, and teach the Gentiles?
是に於てユデア人等語合ひけるは、我等彼に遇はじとて、彼は何處に往かんとするぞ、異邦人の中に散在せる同邦人の許に往きて、異邦人を教へんとするか、
36 What manner of saying is this that he said, Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am, there ye cannot come?
其言に、汝等我を尋ぬべけれど而も我に遇はじ、我が居る處には汝等來る事能はず、と云ひしは何事ぞや、と。
37 In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirsteth, let him come to me, and drink.
祭の終の日、即ち其大祭日に、イエズス立ちて呼はりつつ曰ひけるは、渇ける人あらば我許に來りて飲め、
38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his heart shall flow rivers of living water.
我を信ずる人は、聖書に云へる如く、活ける水の川其腹より流出づべし、と。
39 ( But this he spoke of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Spirit was not yet given; because Jesus was not yet glorified.)
斯く曰ひしは、己を信ずる人々に賜はるべき[聖]霊の事なりき、其はイエズス未だ光榮を受け給はざるにより、[聖]霊は未だ賜はざりしが故なり。
40 Many of the people therefore, when they heard this saying, said, In truth this is the Prophet.
斯て彼群衆の中に、是等の言を聞きて、是眞に彼預言者なり、と謂ふ人あり、
41 Others said, This is the Christ. But some said, Shall Christ come out of Galilee?
是キリストなり、と謂ふ人もありき。然れど或人は、キリストはガリレアより出づべき者なるか、
42 Hath not the scripture said, That Christ cometh from the seed of David, and out of the town of Bethlehem, where David was?
聖書にキリストはダヴィドの裔より、又ダヴィドの居たりしベトレヘムの町より出づ、と云へるに非ずや、と云ひつつ、
43 So there was a division among the people because of him.
イエズスに就きて群衆の中に諍論を生じたり。
44 And some of them would have taken him; but no man laid hands on him.
中にはイエズスを捕へんと欲する者ありたれど、誰も手を掛くる者なかりき。
45 Then came the officers to the chief priests and Pharisees; and they said to them, Why have ye not brought him?
然れど下役等は、司祭長とファリザイ人との許に還りしに、何ぞ彼を引來らざる、と云はれて、
46 The officers answered, Never man spoke like this man.
下役等、此人の如く語りし人は未だ曾てあらず、と答へしかば、
47 Then the Pharisees answered them, Are ye also deceived?
ファリザイ人答へけるは、汝等も亦惑はされしか、
48 Have any of the rulers or of the Pharisees believed on him?
長及びファリザイ人の中に、一人だも彼を信じたる者ありや、
49 But this people who know not the law are cursed.
然れど律法を知らざる彼群衆は詛はれたる者なり、と。
50 Nicodemus saith to them, (he that came to Jesus by night, being one of them, )
曾て夜イエズスに至りし彼ニコデモは、其中の一人なりしが、彼等に向ひて、
51 Doth our law judge any man, before it heareth him, and knoweth what he doeth?
我律法は、先其人にも聴糺さず、其為す所をも知らずして、之を罪に定むるものなるか、と云ひしかば、
52 They answered and said to him, Art thou also from Galilee? Search, and look: for out of Galilee ariseth no prophet.
彼等答へて云ひけるは、汝も亦ガリレア人なるか、聖書を探り見よ、然て預言者はガリレアより起るものに非ずと暁れ、と。
53 And every man went to his own house.
斯て各自宅に歸れり。
