John 7
1 After these things Jesus walked in Galilee: for he would not walk in Judaea, because the Jews sought to kill him.
この後イエス、ガリラヤのうちを巡りゐ給ふ、ユダヤ人の殺さんとするに因りて、ユダヤのうちを巡ることを欲し給はぬなり。
2 Now the Jews’ feast of tabernacles was at hand.
ユダヤ人の假廬の祭ちかづきたれば、
3 His brethren therefore said to him, Depart from here, and go into Judaea, that thy disciples also may see the works that thou doest.
兄弟たちイエスに言ふ『なんぢの行ふ業を弟子たちにも見せんために、此處を去りてユダヤに往け。
4 For there is no man that doeth any thing in secret, and he himself seeketh to be known openly. If thou doest these things, show thyself to the world.
誰にても自ら顯れんことを求めて、隱に業をなす者なし。汝これらの事を爲すからには、己を世にあらはせ』
5 For neither did his brethren believe in him.
是その兄弟たちもイエスを信ぜぬ故なり。
6 Then Jesus said to them, My time is not yet come: but your time is always ready.
ここにイエス言ひ給ふ『わが時はいまだ到らず、汝らの時は常に備れり。
7 The world cannot hate you; but me it hateth, because I testify concerning it, that its works are evil.
世は汝らを憎むこと能はねど我を憎む、我は世の所作の惡しきを證すればなり。
8 Go ye up to this feast: I go not up yet to this feast; for my time is not yet full come.
なんぢら祭に上れ、わが時いまだ滿たねば、我は今この祭にのぼらず』
9 When he had said these words to them, he abode still in Galilee.
かく言ひて尚ガリラヤに留り給ふ。
10 But when his brethren had gone up, then he went also to the feast, not openly, but as it were in secret.
而して兄弟たちの祭にのぼりたる後、あらはならで潜びやかに上り給ふ。
11 Then the Jews sought him at the feast, and said, Where is he?
祭にあたりユダヤ人らイエスを尋ねて『かれは何處に居るか』と言ふ。
12 And there was much murmuring among the people concerning him: for some said, He is a good man: others said, Nay; but he deceiveth the people.
また群衆のうちに囁く者おほくありて、或は『イエスは善き人なり』といひ、或は『いな、群衆を惑すなり』と言ふ。
13 Yet no man spoke openly of him for fear of the Jews.
されどユダヤ人を懼るるに因りて、誰もイエスのことを公然に言はず。
14 Now about the midst of the feast Jesus went up into the temple, and taught.
祭も、はや半となりし頃、イエス宮にのぼりて教へ給へば、
15 And the Jews marvelled, saying, How knoweth this man letters, having never learned?
ユダヤ人あやしみて言ふ『この人は學びし事なきに、如何にして書を知るか』
16 Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me.
イエス答へて言ひ給ふ『わが教はわが教にあらず、我を遣し給ひし者の教なり。
17 If any man will do his will, he shall know concerning the doctrine, whether it is from God, or whether I speak from myself.
人もし御意を行はんと欲せば、此の教の神よりか、我が己より語るかを知らん。
18 He that speaketh from himself seeketh his own glory: but he that seeketh his glory that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him.
己より語るものは己の榮光をもとむ、己を遣しし者の榮光を求むる者は眞なり、その中に不義なし。
19 Did not Moses give you the law, and yet none of you keepeth the law? Why go ye about to kill me?
モーセは汝らに律法を與へしにあらずや、されど汝 等のうちに律法を守る者なし。汝ら何ゆゑ我を殺さんとするか』
20 The people answered and said, Thou hast a demon: who goeth about to kill thee?
群衆こたふ『なんぢは惡鬼に憑かれたり、誰が汝を殺さんとするぞ』
21 Jesus answered and said to them, I have done one work, and ye all marvel.
イエス答へて言ひ給ふ『われ一つの業をなしたれば、汝 等みな怪しめり。
22 Moses therefore gave to you circumcision; ( not because it is from Moses, but from the fathers; ) and ye on the sabbath circumcise a man.
モーセは汝らに割禮を命じたり（これはモーセより起りしとにあらず、先祖より起りしなり）この故に汝ら安息 日にも人に割禮を施す。
23 If a man on the sabbath receiveth circumcision, that the law of Moses should not be broken; are ye angry at me, because I have restored a man to sound health on the sabbath?
モーセの律法の廢らぬために、安息 日に人の割禮を受くる事あらば、何ぞ安息 日に人の全身を健かにせしとて我を怒るか。
24 Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.
外貌によりて裁くな、正しき審判にて審け』
25 Then said some of them of Jerusalem, Is not this he, whom they seek to kill?
ここにエルサレムの或 人々いふ『これは人々の殺さんとする者ならずや。
26 But, lo, he speaketh boldly, and they say nothing to him. Do the rulers know indeed that this is the very Christ?
視よ、公然に語るに、之に對して何をも言ふ者なし、司たちは此の人のキリストたるを眞に認めしならんか。
27 But we know this man where he is from: but when Christ cometh, no man knoweth where he is from.
されど我らは此の人の何處よりかを知る、キリストの來る時には、その何處よりかを知る者なし』
28 Then cried Jesus in the temple as he taught, saying, Ye both know me, and ye know where I am from: and I am not come of myself, but he that sent me is true, whom ye know not.
ここにイエス宮にて教へつつ呼はりて言ひ給ふ『なんぢら我を知り、亦わが何處よりかを知る。されど我は己より來るにあらず、眞の者ありて我を遣し給へり。汝らは彼を知らず、
29 But I know him: for I am from him, and he hath sent me.
我は彼を知る。我は彼より出で、彼は我を遣し給ひしに因りてなり』
30 Then they sought to take him: but no man laid hands on him, because his hour was not yet come.
ここに人々イエスを捕へんと謀りたれど、彼の時いまだ到らぬ故に手出する者なかりき。
31 And many of the people believed on him, and said, When Christ cometh, will he do more miracles than these which this man hath done?
かくて群衆のうち多くの人々イエスを信じて『キリスト來るとも、此の人の行ひしより多く徴を行はんや』と言ふ。
32 The Pharisees heard that the people murmured such things concerning him; and the Pharisees and the chief priests sent officers to take him.
イエスにつきて群衆のかく囁くことパリサイ人の耳に入りたれば、祭司長・パリサイ人ら彼を捕へんとて下役どもを遣ししに、
33 Then said Jesus to them, Yet a little while am I with you, and then I go to him that sent me.
イエス言ひ給ふ『我なほ暫く汝らと偕に居り、而してのち我を遣し給ひし者の御許に往く。
34 Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am, there ye cannot come.
汝ら我を尋ねん、されど逢はざるべし、汝 等わが居る處に往くこと能はず』
35 Then said the Jews among themselves, Where will he go, that we shall not find him? will he go to the dispersed among the Gentiles, and teach the Gentiles?
ここにユダヤ人ら互に云ふ『この人われらの逢ひ得ぬいづこに往かんとするか、ギリシヤ人のうちに散りをる者に往きて、ギリシヤ人を教へんとするか。
36 What manner of saying is this that he said, Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am, there ye cannot come?
その言に「なんぢら我を尋ねん、然れど逢はざるべし、汝ら我がをる處に往くこと能はず」と云へるは何ぞや』
37 In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirsteth, let him come to me, and drink.
祭の終の大なる日に、イエス立ちて呼はりて言ひたまふ『人もし渇かば我に來りて飮め。
38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his heart shall flow rivers of living water.
我を信ずる者は、聖書に云へるごとく、その腹より活ける水、川となりて流れ出づべし』
39 ( But this he spoke of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Spirit was not yet given; because Jesus was not yet glorified.)
これは彼を信ずる者の受けんとする御靈を指して言ひ給ひしなり。イエス未だ榮光を受け給はざれば、御靈いまだ降らざりしなり。
40 Many of the people therefore, when they heard this saying, said, In truth this is the Prophet.
此 等の言をききて群衆のうちの或 人は『これ眞にかの預言者なり』といひ、
41 Others said, This is the Christ. But some said, Shall Christ come out of Galilee?
或 人は『これキリストなり』と言ひ、又ある人は『キリストいかでガリラヤより出でんや、
42 Hath not the scripture said, That Christ cometh from the seed of David, and out of the town of Bethlehem, where David was?
聖書に、キリストはダビデの裔またダビデの居りし村ベツレヘムより出づと云へるならずや』と言ふ。
43 So there was a division among the people because of him.
斯くイエスの事によりて、群衆のうちに紛爭おこりたり。
44 And some of them would have taken him; but no man laid hands on him.
その中には、イエスを捕へんと欲する者もありしが、手出する者なかりき。
45 Then came the officers to the chief priests and Pharisees; and they said to them, Why have ye not brought him?
而して下役ども、祭司長・パリサイ人らの許に歸りたれば、彼ら問ふ『なに故かれを曳き來らぬか』
46 The officers answered, Never man spoke like this man.
下役ども答ふ『この人の語るごとく語りし人は未だなし』
47 Then the Pharisees answered them, Are ye also deceived?
パリサイ人 等これに答ふ『なんぢらも惑されしか、
48 Have any of the rulers or of the Pharisees believed on him?
司たち又はパリサイ人のうちに、一人だに彼を信ぜし者ありや、
49 But this people who know not the law are cursed.
律法を知らぬこの群衆は詛はれたる者なり』
50 Nicodemus saith to them, (he that came to Jesus by night, being one of them, )
彼 等のうちの一人にてさきにイエスの許に來りしニコデモ言ふ、
51 Doth our law judge any man, before it heareth him, and knoweth what he doeth?
『われらの律法は、先その人に聽き、その爲すところを知るにあらずば、審く事をせんや』
52 They answered and said to him, Art thou also from Galilee? Search, and look: for out of Galilee ariseth no prophet.
かれら答へて言ふ『なんぢもガリラヤより出でしか、査べ見よ、預言者はガリラヤより起る事なし』
53 And every man went to his own house.
［斯くておのおの己が家に歸れり。
