Job 34
1 Furthermore Elihu answered and said,
S megszólalt Élíhú és mondta:
2 Hear my words, O ye wise men; and give ear to me, ye that have knowledge.
Halljátok, bölcsek, szavaimat, és tudók ti, figyeljetek rám;
3 For the ear trieth words, as the mouth tasteth food.
mert a fül vizsgálja, a szavakat s az íny ízlel, hogy egyék.
4 Let us choose for ourselves what is right: let us know among ourselves what is good.
Válasszuk magunknak, a mi jog, tudjuk meg egymás közt, mi a jó.
5 For Job hath said, I am righteous: and God hath taken away my judgment.
Mert azt mondta Jób: igazam van, de Isten elvette jogomat.
6 Should I lie against my right? my wound is incurable without transgression.
Jogom ellenére hazudjak-e? Végzetes a nyíl, mely talált, bűntett nélkül.
7 What man is like Job, who drinketh up scorning like water?
Ki oly férfi, mint Jób, ki mint vizet issza a gúnyt;
8 Who goeth in company with the workers of iniquity, and walketh with wicked men.
s elmegy társulni jogtalanság cselekvőivel és járni gonoszság embereivel!
9 For he hath said, It profiteth a man nothing that he should delight himself with God.
Mert azt mondta: nincs haszna a férfinak, midőn Istennél kedvessé teszi magát.
10 Therefore hearken to me, ye men of understanding: far be it from God, that he should do wickedness; and from the Almighty, that he should commit iniquity.
Azért, ész emberei, hallgassatok reám, távol legyen Isten a gonoszságtól s a Mindenható a jogtalanságtól!
11 For the work of a man he shall render to him, and cause every man to find according to his ways.
Mert az ember művét megfizeti neki s a férfi útja szerint, úgy juttat neki.
12 Yea, surely God will not do wickedly, neither will the Almighty pervert judgment.
Úgy bizony, Isten nem tesz gonoszságot, és a Mindenható nem ferdít jogot.
13 Who hath given him a charge over the earth? or who hath disposed the whole world?
Ki bízta reá a földet, s ki tette reá az egész világot?
14 If he should set his heart upon man, if he should gather to himself his spirit and his breath;
Ha csak önnönmagára fordítaná szívét, önnönmagához visszavonná szellemét és leheletét:
15 All flesh would perish together, and man would turn again to dust.
kimúlna minden halandó együttesen s az ember porhoz térne vissza.
16 If now thou hast understanding, hear this: hearken to the voice of my words.
Ha tehát van értelem, halljad ezt, figyelj beszédem szavára.
17 Shall even he that hateth right govern? and wilt thou condemn him that is most just?
Vajon ki a jogot gyűlöli, kormányozhat-e, avagy az igazságost, hatalmast kárhoztathatod-e?
18 Is it fit to say to a king, Thou art wicked? and to princes, Ye are ungodly?
Mondhatni-e királynak: alávaló, nemeseknek: gonosz?
19 How much less to him that accepteth not the persons of princes, nor regardeth the rich more than the poor? for they all are the work of his hands.
A ki nem tekintette fejedelmek személyét a nem tűntette ki az előkelőt a szegénnyel szemben, mert kezeinek műve mindannyian.
20 In a moment they shall die, and the people shall be troubled at midnight, and pass away: and the mighty shall be taken away without hand.
Pillanat alatt meghalnak, és éjfélkor megrendül a nép s eltűnik s elmozdítják a zsarnokot – nem kézzel.
21 For his eyes are upon the ways of man, and he seeth all his goings.
Mert szemei rajta vannak az ember útjain, és mind a lépéseit látja.
22 There is no darkness, nor shadow of death, where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves.
Nincs sötétség, nincs vakhomály, hogy ott elrejtőzzenek a jogtalanság cselekvői.
23 For he will not lay upon man more than right; that he should enter into judgment with God.
Mert nem kell többé ügyelnie az emberre, hogy Istenhez törvényre menjen.
24 He shall break in pieces mighty men without number, and set others in their stead.
Megtöri a hatalmasakat kutatás nélkül s másokat állít helyökbe.
25 Therefore he knoweth their works, and he overturneth them in the night, so that they are destroyed.
Ennélfogva ismeri tetteiket, feldúlja őket éjjel és szétűzetnek;
26 He striketh them as wicked men in the open sight of others;
Mint gonoszokat lecsapta őket, nézőknek a helyén.
27 Because they turned back from him, and would not consider any of his ways:
Mivelhogy eltávoztak mellőle s mind az útjaira nem vetettek ügyet,
28 So that they cause the cry of the poor to come to him, and he heareth the cry of the afflicted.
juttatván eléje a sanyarúnak jajkiáltását, hallja is a szegények jajkiáltását.
29 When he giveth quietness, who then can make trouble? and when he hideth his face, who then can behold him? whether it be done against a nation, or against a man only:
S ha Ő nyugalmat szerez, ki kárhoztatná őt, s ha elrejti arczát, ki láthatja őt – mind népen, mind emberen egyaránt;
30 That the hypocrite may not reign, lest the people should be ensnared.
nehogy uralkodjék istentelen ember, nehogy legyenek népnek tőrei.
31 Surely hast any one said to God, I have borne chastisement, I will not offend any more:
Mert Istennek mondhatni-e: bűnhődöm, bár nem vétettem;
32 That which I see not teach thou me: if I have done iniquity, I will do no more.
a mit nem látok, arra taníts te, ha jogtalanságot cselekedtem, nem teszem többé?
33 Should it be according to thy mind? he will recompense it, whether thou shalt refuse, or whether thou shalt choose; and not I: therefore speak what thou knowest.
Vélekedésed szerint fizessen-e, inert megvetetted, mert te választasz s nem én? A mit tudsz, mondd el!
34 Let men of understanding tell me, and let a wise man hearken to me.
Eszes emberek megmondják nekem, s bölcs férfiú, ki rám hallgat:
35 Job hath spoken without knowledge, and his words were without wisdom.
Jób nem tudással beszél és szavai nem belátással valók.
36 My desire is that Job may be tried to the end because of his answers for wicked men.
Vajha vizsgáltatnék Jób mindvégig válaszai miatt jogtalan emberek módjára;
37 For he addeth rebellion to his sin, he clappeth his hands among us, and multiplieth his words against God.
mert vétkéhez hozzá tesz bűntettet, tapsolgat köztünk és sokasítja mondásait Istenhez.
