Job 32

1 So these three men ceased to answer Job, because he was righteous in his own eyes.

Et ces trois hommes cessèrent de répondre à Job, parce qu'il était juste à ses propres yeux.

2 Then was kindled the wrath of Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite, of the kindred of Ram: against Job was his wrath kindled, because he justified himself rather than God.

Alors s'enflamma de colère Elihu, fils de Barachéel, de Buz, de la famille de Ram: sa colère s'enflamma contre Job, parce que devant Dieu il se déclarait lui-même juste,

3 Also against his three friends was his wrath kindled, because they had found no answer, and yet had condemned Job.

et sa colère s'enflamma contre ses trois amis, parce qu'ils ne trouvaient rien à répondre, et que néanmoins ils condamnaient Job.

4 Now Elihu had waited till Job had spoken, because they were elder than he.

Cependant Elihu avait attendu de s'adresser à Job. parce que ceux-là étaient plus vieux que lui par le nombre de leurs jours.

5 When Elihu saw that there was no answer in the mouth of these three men, then his wrath was kindled.

Elihu voyant donc qu'il n'y avait aucune réponse dans la bouche des trois hommes, s'enflamma de colère.

6 And Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite answered and said, I am young, and ye are very old; therefore I was afraid, and dared not show you my opinion.

Et Elihu, fils de Barachéel, de Buz, prit la parole et dit: Je n'ai que peu d'années, et vous êtes âgés; dès lors je m'intimidais, et je craignais de vous exposer mes sentiments.

7 I said, Days should speak, and multitude of years should teach wisdom.

Je disais: Le grand âge parlera, et la vieillesse enseignera la sagesse.

8 But there is a spirit in man: and the inspiration of the Almighty giveth them understanding.

Mais il est dans l'homme un esprit, et un souffle du Tout-puissant, qui lui donne l'intelligence.

9 Great men are not always wise: neither do the aged understand judgment.

Les années seules ne donnent pas la sagesse, ni l'âge, le discernement du juste.

10 Therefore I said, Hearken to me; I also will show my opinion.

C'est pourquoi je dis: Ecoute-moi! je veux aussi exposer mes sentiments.

11 Behold, I waited for your words; I gave ear to your reasons, while ye searched out what to say.

Voici, j'ai attendu vos discours, j'ai prêté l'oreille à vos raisonnements que je vous ai laissés développer à fond;

12 Yea, I attended to you, and, behold, there was none of you that convinced Job, or that answered his words:

je vous ai suivis avec attention; mais voici, aucun d'entre vous n'a réfuté Job, ni répondu à ses discours.

13 Lest ye should say, We have found out wisdom: God thrusteth him down, not man.

Cependant n'allez pas dire: « Nous avons rencontré de la sagesse; Dieu, mais non l'homme, lui fera lâcher pied. »

14 Now he hath not directed his words against me: neither will I answer him with your speeches.

D'ailleurs il n'a point dirigé contre moi ses discours, et ce n'est pas dans votre langage que je lui répondrai…

15 They were amazed, they answered no more: they stopped speaking.

Ils sont éperdus, et ne répliquent plus! on leur a ôté l'usage de la parole!

16 When I had waited, (for they spoke not, but stood still, and answered no more; )

Dois-je aussi m'arrêter, parce qu'ils ne parlent plus, parce qu'ils sont là debout, sans dire mot?

17 I said, I will answer also my part, I also will show my opinion.

Je répondrai aussi pour ma part; moi aussi j'exposerai mes idées;

18 For I am full of matter, the spirit within me constraineth me.

car je suis plein de ce que j'ai à dire, l'esprit en mon sein me met à la gêne.

19 Behold, my belly is as wine which hath no vent; it is ready to burst like new bottles.

Voici, mon sein est comme un vin qu'on n'a pas ouvert, comme des outres neuves qui vont éclater.

20 I will speak, that I may be refreshed: I will open my lips and answer.

Je veux parler, pour respirer, ouvrir mes lèvres et répliquer.

21 Let me not, I pray you, accept any man’s person, neither let me give flattering titles to man.

Mais je ne ferai acception de personne, et ne serai le flatteur d'aucun homme.

22 For I know not to give flattering titles; in so doing my maker would soon take me away.

Car je ne sais pas flatter: d'ailleurs bientôt mon Créateur me ferait disparaître.
