Job 29
1 Moreover Job continued his parable, and said,
Job jatkoi lausuen mietelmiään ja sanoi:
2 O that I were as in months past, as in the days when God preserved me;
"Oi, jospa olisin, niinkuin olin ammoin kuluneina kuukausina, niinkuin niinä päivinä, joina Jumala minua varjeli,
3 When his lamp shined upon my head, and when by his light I walked through darkness;
jolloin hänen lamppunsa loisti pääni päällä ja minä hänen valossansa vaelsin pimeyden halki!
4 As I was in the days of my youth, when the secret of God was upon my tent;
Jospa olisin niinkuin kukoistukseni päivinä, jolloin Jumalan ystävyys oli majani yllä,
5 When the Almighty was yet with me, when my children were about me;
jolloin Kaikkivaltias oli vielä minun kanssani ja poikani minua ympäröivät,
6 When I washed my steps with butter, and the rock poured me out rivers of oil;
jolloin askeleeni kylpivät kermassa ja kallio minun vierelläni vuoti öljyvirtoja!
7 When I went out to the gate through the city, when I prepared my seat in the street!
Kun menin kaupunkiin porttiaukealle, kun asetin istuimeni torille,
8 The young men saw me, and hid themselves: and the aged arose, and stood up.
niin nuorukaiset väistyivät nähdessään minut, vanhukset nousivat ja jäivät seisomaan,
9 The princes stopped talking, and laid their hand on their mouth.
päämiehet lakkasivat puhumasta ja panivat kätensä suulleen.
10 The nobles held their peace, and their tongue cleaved to the roof of their mouth.
Ruhtinasten ääni vaikeni, ja heidän kielensä tarttui suulakeen.
11 When the ear heard me, then it blessed me; and when the eye saw me, it gave witness to me:
Sillä kenen korva minusta kuuli, hän ylisti minua onnelliseksi, kenen silmä minut näki, hän minusta todisti;
12 Because I delivered the poor that cried, and the fatherless, and him that had none to help him.
minä näet pelastin kurjan, joka apua huusi, ja orvon, jolla ei auttajaa ollut.
13 The blessing of him that was ready to perish came upon me: and I caused the widow’s heart to sing for joy.
Menehtyväisen siunaus tuli minun osakseni, ja lesken sydämen minä saatoin riemuitsemaan.
14 I put on righteousness, and it clothed me: my judgment was as a robe and a diadem.
Vanhurskaudella minä vaatetin itseni, ja se verhosi minut; oikeus oli minulla viittana ja päähineenä.
15 I was eyes to the blind, and feet was I to the lame.
Minä olin sokean silmä ja ontuvan jalka.
16 I was a father to the poor: and the cause which I knew not I searched out.
Minä olin köyhien isä, ja tuntemattoman asiaa minä tarkoin tutkin.
17 And I broke the jaws of the wicked, and plucked the prey out of his teeth.
Minä särjin väärintekijän leukaluut ja tempasin saaliin hänen hampaistansa.
18 Then I said, I shall die in my nest, and I shall multiply my days as the sand.
Silloin ajattelin: 'Pesääni minä saan kuolla, ja minä lisään päiväni paljoiksi kuin hiekka.
19 My root was spread out by the waters, and the dew lay all night upon my branch.
Onhan juureni vedelle avoinna, ja kaste yöpyy minun oksillani.
20 My glory was fresh in me, and my bow was renewed in my hand.
Kunniani uudistuu alati, ja jouseni nuortuu minun kädessäni.'
21 To me men gave ear, and waited, and kept silence at my counsel.
He kuuntelivat minua ja odottivat, olivat vaiti ja vartoivat neuvoani.
22 After my words they spoke not again; and my speech fell upon them.
Puhuttuani eivät he enää sanaa sanoneet, vihmana vuoti puheeni heihin.
23 And they waited for me as for the rain; and they opened their mouth wide as for the latter rain.
He odottivat minua niinkuin sadetta ja avasivat suunsa niinkuin kevätkuurolle.
24 If I mocked at them, they had no confidence; and the light of my countenance they cast not down.
Minä hymyilin heille, kun he olivat toivottomat, ja minun kasvojeni loistaessa eivät he synkiksi jääneet.
25 I chose out their way, and sat chief, and dwelt as a king in the army, as one that comforteth the mourners.
Jos suvaitsin tulla heidän luokseen, niin minä istuin ylinnä, istuin kuin kuningas sotajoukkonsa keskellä, niinkuin se, joka murheelliset lohduttaa."
