Jeremiah 5
1 Run ye to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem, and see now, and know, and seek in her broad places, if ye can find a man, if there is any that executeth judgment, that seeketh the truth; and I will pardon it.
Streifet umher in den Gassen von Jerusalem, und seht doch und erkennt und sucht in seinen Straßen, ob einen Mann ihr findet, ob einer da ist, der Recht tut, der Wahrheit sucht: so will Ich ihr vergeben.
2 And though they say, The LORD liveth; surely they swear falsely.
Und ob sie sprechen: Beim Leben Jehovahs! schwören sie dennoch zur Lüge.
3 O LORD, are not thy eyes upon the truth? thou hast stricken them, but they have not grieved; thou hast consumed them, but they have refused to receive correction: they have made their faces harder than a rock; they have refused to return.
Jehovah, sind Deine Augen nicht auf dem Wahren? Du schlugst sie und es erschütterte sie nicht; Du riebst sie auf, sie weigerten sich, Zucht anzunehmen, machen fester denn die Felsenklippe ihr Angesicht, weigern sich, umzukehren.
4 Therefore I said, Surely these are poor; they are foolish: for they know not the way of the LORD, nor the judgment of their God.
Und ich sprach: Es sind nur die Armen, die dumm sind, weil sie den Weg Jehovahs, ihres Gottes Recht, nicht kennen.
5 I will go to the great men, and will speak to them; for they have known the way of the LORD, and the judgment of their God: but these have altogether broken the yoke, and burst the bonds.
Ich will doch zu den Großen gehen und will mit ihnen reden, denn sie kennen den Weg Jehovahs, ihres Gottes Recht. Aber sie hatten allzumal das Joch gebrochen, die Bande abgerissen.
6 Therefore a lion from the forest shall slay them, and a wolf of the evenings shall spoil them, a leopard shall watch over their cities: every one that goeth out from there shall be torn in pieces: because their transgressions are many, and their backslidings are increased.
Darum schlägt sie der Löwe aus dem Wald, es verheert sie der Wolf der Einöden, der Pardel lauert wider ihre Städte. Jeder, der aus denselben herausgeht, wird zerfleischt, denn viel ist ihrer Übertretungen, mächtig ist ihre Abwendung geworden.
7 How shall I pardon thee for this? thy children have forsaken me, and sworn by them that are no gods: when I had fed them to the full, then they committed adultery, and assembled themselves by troops in the harlots’ houses.
Ob dem sollte Ich vergeben dir? Deine Söhne verließen Mich und schwuren bei einem, der nicht Gott ist: und als Ich sie sättigte, trieben sie Ehebruch und scharten sich zusammen in der Buhlerin Haus.
8 They were as fed horses in the morning: every one neighed after his neighbour’s wife.
Wie geile Rosse sind sie früh auf und wiehern, ein jeder Mann nach des Genossen Weib.
9 Shall I not punish for these things? saith the LORD: and shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?
Sollte Ich deshalb nicht heimsuchen? spricht Jehovah. - Oder soll an einer Völkerschaft wie diese Meine Seele nicht Rache nehmen?
10 Go ye up upon her walls, and destroy; but make not a full end: take away her battlements; for they are not the LORD’S.
Steigt auf ihre Mauern und verderbt sie; aber macht keine Vollendung. Tut weg ihre Ranken, denn sie sind nicht Jehovahs.
11 For the house of Israel and the house of Judah have dealt very treacherously against me, saith the LORD.
Denn treulos haben an Mir gehandelt das Haus Israel und das Haus Judah, spricht Jehovah.
12 They have denied the LORD, and said, It is not he; neither shall evil come upon us; neither shall we see sword nor famine:
Verleugnet haben sie Jehovah und gesagt: Er ist nicht, und es wird nichts Böses kommen über uns. Und Schwert und Hunger werden wir nicht sehen.
13 And the prophets shall become wind, and the word is not in them: thus shall it be done to them.
Und die Propheten werden zu Wind werden und das Wort ist nicht in ihnen. So wird es ihnen geschehen.
14 Therefore thus saith the LORD God of hosts, Because ye speak this word, behold, I will make my words in thy mouth fire, and this people wood, and it shall devour them.
Darum spricht also Jehovah, der Gott der Heerscharen: Weil ihr redet solches Wort, siehe, so will Ich Meine Worte in deinen Mund geben zum Feuer, und dieses Volk zu Holz, daß es sie auffresse.
15 Lo, I will bring a nation upon you from far, O house of Israel, saith the LORD: it is a mighty nation, it is an ancient nation, a nation whose language thou knowest not, neither understandest what they say.
Siehe, aus der Ferne bringe Ich über euch eine Völkerschaft, Haus Israel, spricht Jehovah: Eine mächtige Völkerschaft ist es, eine uralte Völkerschaft, eine Völkerschaft, deren Zunge du nicht kennst und nicht verstehst, was es redet.
16 Their quiver is as an open sepulchre, they are all mighty men.
Sein Köcher ist wie ein geöffnetes Grab, sie alle sind Helden.
17 And they shall eat up thy harvest, and thy bread, which thy sons and thy daughters should eat: they shall eat up thy flocks and thy herds: they shall eat up thy vines and thy fig trees: they shall impoverish with the sword thy fortified cities, in which thou didst trust.
Und es wird auffressen deine Ernte und dein Brot; sie werden auffressen deine Söhne und deine Töchter; auffressen dein Kleinvieh und dein Rind; auffressen deinen Weinstock und deinen Feigenbaum; es wird deine festen Städte, auf die du vertraut, arm machen mit dem Schwert.
18 Nevertheless in those days, saith the LORD, I will not make a full end with you.
Aber auch in jenen Tagen, spricht Jehovah, will Ich mit euch keine Vollendung machen.
19 And it shall come to pass, when ye shall say, Why doeth the LORD our God all these things to us? then shalt thou answer them, As ye have forsaken me, and served foreign gods in your land, so shall ye serve strangers in a land that is not yours.
Und soll geschehen, wenn ihr sagt, warum hat uns Jehovah, unser Gott, solches alles getan, daß du ihnen sagst: Wie ihr Mich habt verlassen und Göttern des Auslandes in eurem Lande gedient, so sollt ihr Fremden dienen in einem Lande, das nicht euer ist.
20 Declare this in the house of Jacob, and proclaim it in Judah, saying,
Sagt solches an im Hause Jakobs und laßt hören in Jehudah und sprechet:
21 Hear now this, O foolish people, and without understanding; who have eyes, and see not; who have ears, and hear not:
Höret doch dies, närrisches Volk, ohne Herz; die Augen haben und sehen nicht, Ohren haben und hören nicht!
22 Fear ye not me? saith the LORD: will ye not tremble at my presence, who have placed the sand for the bound of the sea by a perpetual decree, that it cannot pass it: and though its waves toss themselves, yet can they not prevail; though they roar, yet can they not pass over it?
Mich wollt ihr nicht fürchten, spricht Jehovah, vor Mir nicht erschüttert sein, Der Ich den Sand dem Meere zur Grenze setze, zur ewigen Satzung, und es überschreitet sie nicht; und es wogt einher und vermag nichts; die Wogen toben und überschreiten es nicht.
23 But this people have a revolting and a rebellious heart; they have revolted and gone.
Aber dies Volk hat ein störrisch und widerspenstig Herz. Sie sind abgewichen und sind dahingegangen,
24 Neither say they in their heart, Let us now fear the LORD our God, that giveth rain, both the former and the latter, in its season: he reserveth to us the appointed weeks of harvest.
Und sagten nicht in ihrem Herzen: Lasset uns doch Jehovah fürchten, unseren Gott, Der den Platzregen uns, den Frühregen und Spätregen gibt zu seiner Zeit, Der die Wochen, die Satzungen der Ernte, für uns behütet.
25 Your iniquities have turned away these things, and your sins have withheld good things from you.
Eure Missetaten wendeten dies ab, und eure Sünden hielten ab von euch das Gute.
26 For among my people are found wicked men: they lie in wait, as he that setteth snares; they set a trap, they catch men.
Denn Ungerechte finden sich in Meinem Volk, sie schauen zu, wie Vogelsteller sich duckend die Fallen stellen, sie fangen Männer.
27 As a cage is full of birds, so are their houses full of deceit: therefore they have become great, and have grown rich.
Wie ein Vogelbauer voll vom Gevögel ist, sind vom Betruge ihre Häuser voll. Daher werden sie groß und reich.
28 They have become fat, they shine: yea, they exceed the deeds of the wicked: they judge not the cause, the cause of the fatherless, yet they prosper; and the right of the needy do they not judge.
Sie werden fett, sie glitzern, auch fließen sie über mit Worten der Bosheit. Die Rechtssache rechten sie nicht, die Rechtssache der Waise, daß es ihnen gelänge, und das Recht der Dürftigen richten sie nicht.
29 Shall I not punish for these things? saith the LORD: shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?
Und solches sollte Ich nicht heimsuchen? spricht Jehovah, an einer Völkerschaft wie diese soll Meine Seele nicht Rache nehmen?
30 A wonderful and horrible thing is committed in the land;
Erstaunliches und Schauerliches geschieht im Lande!
31 The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests bear rule by their means; and my people love to have it so: and what will ye do in its end?
Lüge weissagen die Propheten und die Priester herrschen durch deren Hände, und Mein Volk liebt es so. Und was wollt ihr zuletzt dabei tun?
