Jeremiah 37

1 And king Zedekiah the son of Josiah reigned instead of Coniah the son of Jehoiakim, whom Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon made king in the land of Judah.

Y Sedequías, hijo de Josías, llegó a ser rey en lugar de Jeconías, hijo de Joacim, a quien Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, hizo rey en la tierra de Judá.

2 But neither he, nor his servants, nor the people of the land, hearkened to the words of the LORD, which he spoke by the prophet Jeremiah.

Pero él, sus siervos y la gente de la tierra no escucharon las palabras del Señor que dijo por el profeta Jeremías.

3 And Zedekiah the king sent Jehucal the son of Shelemiah and Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah the priest to the prophet Jeremiah, saying, Pray now to the LORD our God for us.

Entonces el rey Sedequías envió a Jucal, el hijo de Selemías, y a Sofonías, hijo del sacerdote de Maasías, al profeta Jeremías, diciendo: Hagan ahora oración al SEÑOR, nuestro Dios.

4 Now Jeremiah came in and went out among the people: for they had not put him into prison.

Ahora Jeremías andaba entre la gente, porque no lo habían encarcelado.

5 Then Pharaoh’s army had come from Egypt: and when the Chaldeans that besieged Jerusalem heard tidings of them, they departed from Jerusalem.

Y el ejército de Faraón había salido de Egipto; y los caldeos, que estaban atacando a Jerusalén, oyendo noticias de ellos, se fueron de Jerusalén.

6 Then came the word of the LORD to the prophet Jeremiah, saying,

Entonces la palabra del Señor vino al profeta Jeremías, diciendo:

7 Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel; Thus shall ye say to the king of Judah, that sent you to me to enquire of me; Behold, Pharaoh’s army, which hath come forth to help you, shall return to Egypt into their own land.

El Señor, el Dios de Israel, ha dicho: esto es lo que debes decirle al rey de Judá que te envió para que me enviaras las instrucciones: Mira, el ejército del Faraón, que ha salido en tu ayuda, se ha regresado a Egipto, a su tierra.

8 And the Chaldeans shall come again, and fight against this city, and take it, and burn it with fire.

Y los caldeos volverán y harán la guerra contra esta ciudad, la tomarán y la incendiarán.

9 Thus saith the LORD; Deceive not yourselves, saying, The Chaldeans shall surely depart from us: for they shall not depart.

El Señor ha dicho: No tengan falsas esperanzas, diciéndose a sí mismos: Los Caldeos se alejarán de nosotros, porque no se irán.

10 For though ye had smitten the whole army of the Chaldeans that fight against you, and there remained but wounded men among them, yet should they rise up every man in his tent, and burn this city with fire.

Porque incluso si hubieras vencido a todo el ejército de los caldeos que luchaban contra ti, y solo quedarán hombres heridos entre ellos, ellos se levantarían, cada uno en su tienda, e incendiarían esta ciudad.

11 And it came to pass, that when the army of the Chaldeans was broken up from Jerusalem for fear of Pharaoh’s army,

Y sucedió que cuando el ejército caldeo en las afueras de Jerusalén se había ido por temor al ejército de Faraón,

12 Then Jeremiah went out of Jerusalem to go into the land of Benjamin, to separate himself from there in the midst of the people.

Jeremías salió de Jerusalén para ir a la tierra de Benjamín, con el propósito de retomar su herencia entre la gente.

13 And when he was in the gate of Benjamin, a captain of the guard was there, whose name was Irijah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Hananiah; and he took Jeremiah the prophet, saying, Thou fallest away to the Chaldeans.

Pero cuando él estaba en la puerta de Benjamín, un capitán de la guardia llamado Irías, el hijo de Selemías, el hijo de Hananías, que estaba estacionado allí, puso su mano sobre el profeta Jeremías, diciendo: Tú te pasas a los caldeos.

14 Then said Jeremiah, It is false; I fall not away to the Chaldeans. But he hearkened not to him: so Irijah took Jeremiah, and brought him to the princes.

Entonces Jeremías dijo: Eso no es cierto; No voy a ir a los caldeos. Pero no quiso escucharlo; entonces Iría lo hizo prisionero y lo llevó a los gobernantes.

15 Therefore the princes were angry with Jeremiah, and beat him, and put him in prison in the house of Jonathan the scribe: for they had made that the prison.

Y los gobernantes se enojaron con Jeremías, le dieron golpes y lo pusieron en la cárcel en la casa de Jonatán, el escriba; porque habían hecho de su casa, la prisión.

16 When Jeremiah had entered into the dungeon, and into the cells, and Jeremiah had remained there many days;

Entonces Jeremías entró en el agujero de la prisión, debajo de los arcos, y estuvo allí durante mucho tiempo.

17 Then Zedekiah the king sent, and took him out: and the king asked him secretly in his house, and said, Is there any word from the LORD? And Jeremiah said, There is: for, said he, thou shalt be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon.

Entonces el rey Sedequías ordenó que lo sacaran; y el rey, interrogándolo en secreto en su casa, dijo: ¿Hay alguna palabra de parte del Señor? Y Jeremías dijo: Si. Entonces él dijo: Te entregarán en manos del rey de Babilonia.

18 Moreover Jeremiah said to king Zedekiah, How have I offended against thee, or against thy servants, or against this people, that ye have put me in prison?

Entonces Jeremías dijo al rey Sedequías: ¿Cuál ha sido mi pecado contra ti o contra tus siervos o contra este pueblo, que me pusiste en la cárcel?

19 Where are now your prophets who prophesied to you, saying, The king of Babylon shall not come against you, nor against this land?

¿Dónde están ahora tus profetas que te dijeron: El rey de Babilonia no vendrá contra ti ni contra esta tierra?

20 Therefore hear now, I pray thee, O my lord the king: let my supplication, I pray thee, be accepted before thee; that thou cause me not to return to the house of Jonathan the scribe, lest I die there.

Y ahora, te ruego que escuches, oh mi señor el rey; Deja que mi oración de ayuda venga ante ti, y no me hagas volver a la casa de Jonatán, el escriba, por temor a que yo pueda morir allí.

21 Then Zedekiah the king commanded that they should commit Jeremiah into the court of the prison, and that they should give him daily a piece of bread out of the baker’s street, until all the bread in the city should be consumed. Thus Jeremiah remained in the court of the prison.

Luego, por orden del rey Sedequías, Jeremías fue puesto en el lugar de los vigilantes armados, y cada día le daban un pastel de pan de la calle de los panaderos, hasta que el pan de la ciudad fue agotado. Así se mantuvo a Jeremías en lugar de los vigilantes armados.
