Jeremiah 18
1 The word which came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,
La palabra que fue a Jeremías de Jehová, diciendo:
2 Arise, and go down to the potter’s house, and there I will cause thee to hear my words.
Levántate, y vete a casa del ollero, y allí te haré que oigas mis palabras.
3 Then I went down to the potter’s house, and, behold, he wrought a work on the wheels.
Y descendí en casa del ollero, y he aquí que él hacía obra sobre una rueda.
4 And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter: so he made it again another vessel, as it seemed good to the potter to make it.
Y el vaso que él hacía de barro se quebró en la mano del ollero; y tornó, e hízolo otro vaso según que al ollero pareció mejor hacerlo.
5 Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
Y fue a mí palabra de Jehová, diciendo:
6 O house of Israel, cannot I do with you as this potter? saith the LORD. Behold, as the clay is in the potter’s hand, so are ye in my hand, O house of Israel.
¿No podré yo hacer de vosotros como este ollero, o! casa de Israel, dice Jehová? He aquí que como el barro en la mano del ollero, así sois vosotros en mi mano, o! casa de Israel.
7 At what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to pluck up, and to pull down, and to destroy it;
En un instante hablaré contra naciones, y contra reinos, para arrancar, y disipar, y perder:
8 If that nation, against which I have pronounced, shall turn from their evil, I will repent of the evil that I thought to do to them.
Empero si esas naciones se convirtieren de su maldad, contra el cual mal yo hablé, yo me arrepentiré del mal que había pensado de les hacer.
9 And at what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to build and to plant it;
Y en un instante hablaré de la nación, y del reino, para edificar y para plantar:
10 If it shall do evil in my sight, that it obey not my voice, then I will repent of the good, with which I said I would benefit them.
Y si hiciere lo malo delante de mis ojos, no oyendo mi voz, arrepentirme he del bien que había determinado de le hacer.
11 Now therefore come, speak to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying, Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I frame evil against you, and devise a plot against you: return ye now every one from his evil way, and make your ways and your doings good.
Ahora pues, habla ahora a todo hombre de Judá, y a los moradores de Jerusalem, diciendo: Así dijo Jehová: He aquí que yo compongo mal contra vosotros, y pienso contra vosotros pensamientos: conviértase ahora cada uno de su mal camino, y mejorád vuestros caminos, y vuestras obras.
12 And they said, There is no hope: but we will walk after our own devices, and we will every one do the imagination of his evil heart.
Y dijeron: Es por demás, porque en pos de nuestras imaginaciones hemos de ir; y cada uno el pensamiento de su malvado corazón hemos de hacer.
13 Therefore thus saith the LORD; Ask ye now among the heathen, who hath heard such things: the virgin of Israel hath done a very horrible thing.
Por tanto así dijo Jehová: Ahora preguntád a las naciones: ¿Quién oyó tal? Gran fealdad hizo la virgen de Israel.
14 Will a man leave the snow of Lebanon which cometh from the rock of the field? or shall the cold flowing waters that come from another place be forsaken?
¿Dejará alguno la nieve de la piedra del campo que corre del Líbano? dejarán las aguas extrañas, frías y corrientes?
15 Because my people hath forgotten me, they have burned incense to vanity, and they have caused them to stumble in their ways from the ancient paths, to walk in paths, in a way not cast up;
Porque mi pueblo me olvidaron, incensando a la vanidad; y hácenlos tropezar en sus caminos, en las sendas antiguas, para que caminen por sendas, por camino no hollado:
16 To make their land desolate, and a perpetual hissing; every one that passeth by it shall be astonished, and shake his head.
Para poner su tierra en admiración, y en silbos perpetuos: todo aquel que pasare por ella se maravillará, y meneará su cabeza.
17 I will scatter them as with an east wind before the enemy; I will show them the back, and not the face, in the day of their calamity.
Como viento solano los esparciré delante del enemigo: la cerviz, y no el rostro, les mostraré en el día de su perdición.
18 Then said they, Come, and let us devise devices against Jeremiah; for the law shall not perish from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophet. Come, and let us smite him with the tongue, and let us not give heed to any of his words.
Y dijeron: Veníd, y maquinemos maquinaciones contra Jeremías; porque la ley no faltará del sacerdote, ni consejo del sabio, ni palabra del profeta. Veníd, e hirámosle de lengua, y no miremos a todas sus palabras.
19 Give heed to me, O LORD, and hearken to the voice of them that contend with me.
Jehová mira por mí, y oye la voz de los que contienden conmigo.
20 Shall evil be recompensed for good? for they have dug a pit for my soul. Remember that I stood before thee to speak good for them, and to turn away thy wrath from them.
¿Dáse mal por bien, que cavaron hoyo a mi alma? Acuérdate que me puse delante de ti, para hablar bien por ellos, para apartar de ellos tu ira.
21 Therefore deliver their children to the famine, and pour out their blood by the force of the sword; and let their wives be bereaved of their children, and be widows; and let their men be put to death; let their young men be slain by the sword in battle.
Por tanto entrega sus hijos a hambre, y házlos escurrir por manos de espada; y sus mujeres queden sin hijos, y viudas; y sus maridos muertos de muerte; y sus mancebos sean heridos a espada en la guerra.
22 Let a cry be heard from their houses, when thou shalt bring a troop suddenly upon them: for they have dug a pit to take me, and hid snares for my feet.
De sus casas se oiga clamor, cuando trajeres sobre ellos ejército de repente; porque cavaron hoyo para tomarme, y escondieron lazos a mis pies.
23 Yet, LORD, thou knowest all their counsel against me to slay me: forgive not their iniquity, neither blot out their sin from thy sight, but let them be overthrown before thee; deal thus with them in the time of thy anger.
Mas tú, o! Jehová, conoces todo su consejo contra mí que es para muerte: no perdones su maldad, ni raigas su pecado de delante de tu rostro; y tropiecen delante de ti: haz con ellos en el tiempo de tu furor.
