Exodus 1

1 Now these are the names of the children of Israel, who came into Egypt; every man and his household came with Jacob.

۱ و این است نامهای پسران اسرائیل که به مصر آمدند، هر کس با اهل خانه‌اش همراه یعقوب آمدند:

2 Reuben, Simeon, Levi, and Judah,

۲ روبین و شمعون و لاوی ویهودا،

3 Issachar, Zebulun, and Benjamin,

۳ یساکار و زبولون و بنیامین،

4 Dan, and Naphtali, Gad, and Asher.

۴ و دان ونفتالی، و جاد و اشیر.

5 And all the souls that descended from Jacob were seventy souls: for Joseph was in Egypt already.

۵ و همه نفوسی که از صلب یعقوب پدید آمدند هفتاد نفر بودند. و یوسف درمصر بود.

6 And Joseph died, and all his brethren, and all that generation.

۶ و یوسف و همه برادرانش، و تمامی آن طبقه مردند.

7 And the children of Israel were fruitful, and increased abundantly, and multiplied, and became exceeding mighty; and the land was filled with them.

۷ و بنی‌اسرائیل بارور و منتشر شدند، وکثیر و بی‌نهایت زورآور گردیدند. و زمین ازایشان پر گشت.

8 Now there arose a new king over Egypt, who knew not Joseph.

۸ اما پادشاهی دیگر بر مصربرخاست که یوسف را نشناخت.

9 And he said to his people, Behold, the people of the children of Israel are more and mightier than we:

۹ و به قوم خودگفت: «همانا قوم بنی‌اسرائیل از ما زیاده وزورآورترند.

10 Come, let us deal wisely with them; lest they multiply, and it shall come to pass, that, when war happeneth, they will join with our enemies, and fight against us, and depart from the land.

۱۰ بیایید با ایشان به حکمت رفتارکنیم، مبادا که زیاد شوند. و واقع شود که چون جنگ پدید آید، ایشان نیز با دشمنان ماهمداستان شوند، و با ما جنگ کرده، از زمین بیرون روند.»

11 Therefore they set over them taskmasters to afflict them with their burdens. And they built for Pharaoh treasure cities, Pithom and Raamses.

۱۱ پس سرکاران بر ایشان گماشتند، تا ایشان را به‌کارهای دشوار ذلیل سازند، و برای فرعون شهرهای خزینه، یعنی فیتوم و رعمسیس را بناکردند.

12 But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and grew. And they were grieved because of the children of Israel.

۱۲ لیکن چندانکه بیشتر ایشان را ذلیل ساختند، زیادتر متزاید و منتشر گردیدند، و ازبنی‌اسرائیل احتراز می‌نمودند.

13 And the Egyptians made the children of Israel to serve with rigour:

۱۳ و مصریان ازبنی‌اسرائیل به ظلم خدمت گرفتند.

14 And they made their lives bitter with hard bondage, in mortar, and in brick, and in all manner of service in the field: all their service, in which they made them serve, was with rigour.

۱۴ و جانهای ایشان را به بندگی سخت، به گل کاری وخشت سازی و هر گونه عمل صحرایی، تلخ ساختندی. و هر خدمتی که بر ایشان نهادندی به ظلم می‌بود.

15 And the king of Egypt spoke to the Hebrew midwives, of which the name of one was Shiphrah, and the name of the other Puah:

۱۵ و پادشاه مصر به قابله های عبرانی که یکی را شفره و دیگری را فوعه نام بود، امرکرده،

16 And he said, When ye do the office of a midwife to the Hebrew women, and see them upon the stools; if it shall be a son, then ye shall kill him: but if it shall be a daughter, then she shall live.

۱۶ گفت: «چون قابله گری برای زنان عبرانی بکنید، و بر سنگها نگاه کنید، اگر پسر باشد او رابکشید، و اگر دختر بود زنده بماند.»

17 But the midwives feared God, and did not as the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the males alive.

۱۷ لکن قابله‌ها از خدا ترسیدند، و آنچه پادشاه مصربدیشان فرموده بود نکردند، بلکه پسران را زنده گذاردند.

18 And the king of Egypt called for the midwives, and said to them, Why have ye done this thing, and have saved the males alive?

۱۸ پس پادشاه مصر قابله‌ها را طلبیده، بدیشان گفت: «چرا این کار را کردید، و پسران را زنده گذاردید؟»

19 And the midwives said to Pharaoh, Because the Hebrew women are not as the Egyptian women; for they are lively, and are delivered ere the midwives come in to them.

۱۹ قابله‌ها به فرعون گفتند: «از این سبب که زنان عبرانی چون زنان مصری نیستند، بلکه زورآورند، و قبل از رسیدن قابله می‌زایند.»

20 Therefore God dealt well with the midwives: and the people multiplied, and became very mighty.

۲۰ و خدا با قابله‌ها احسان نمود، و قوم کثیرشدند، و بسیار توانا گردیدند.

21 And it came to pass, because the midwives feared God, that he gave them families.

۲۱ و واقع شدچونکه قابله‌ها از خدا ترسیدند، خانه‌ها برای ایشان بساخت.

22 And Pharaoh charged all his people, saying, Every son that is born ye shall cast into the river, and every daughter ye shall save alive.

۲۲ و فرعون قوم خود را امر کرده، گفت: «هر پسری که زاییده شود به نهر اندازید، وهر دختری را زنده نگاه دارید.
