Esther 9
1 Now in the twelfth month, that is, the month Adar, on the thirteenth day of the same, when the king’s commandment and his decree drew near to be put in execution, in the day that the enemies of the Jews hoped to have power over them, (though it was turned to the contrary, that the Jews had rule over them that hated them; )
A los 13 días del mes duodécimo, el mes de Adar, cuando la orden del rey y su edicto estaban a punto de ejecutarse, el día cuando los enemigos de los judíos esperaban prevalecer sobre ellos, sucedió lo contrario: Que los judíos prevalecieron sobre los que los odiaban.
2 The Jews gathered themselves together in their cities throughout all the provinces of the king Ahasuerus, to lay hand on such as sought their harm: and no man could withstand them; for the fear of them fell upon all people.
En todas las provincias del rey Asuero los judíos se congregaron en sus ciudades para echar mano a los que procuraban su desgracia, y nadie pudo resistirlos, porque el temor de ellos cayó sobre todos los pueblos.
3 And all the princes of the provinces, and the satraps, and the governors, and officers of the king, helped the Jews; because the fear of Mordecai fell upon them.
Todos los jefes de las provincias, los sátrapas, los gobernadores y los funcionarios menores del rey apoyaban a los judíos, pues el temor a Mardoqueo cayó sobre ellos.
4 For Mordecai was great in the king’s house, and his fame went out throughout all the provinces: for this man Mordecai became greater and greater.
Mardoqueo se engrandeció en la casa del rey. Su fama se extendió a todas las provincias, pues el varón Mardoqueo se hacía más y más grande.
5 Thus the Jews smote all their enemies with the stroke of the sword, and slaughter, and destruction, and did what they would to those that hated them.
Los judíos mataron a todos sus enemigos a filo de espada. Con mortandad y destrucción, hicieron lo que quisieron contra los que los odiaban.
6 And in Shushan the palace the Jews slew and destroyed five hundred men.
En la capital Susa, los judíos mataron y destruyeron a 500 hombres.
7 And Parshandatha, and Dalphon, and Aspatha,
También mataron a Parsandata, Dalfón, Aspata,
8 And Poratha, and Adalia, and Aridatha,
Porata, Adalía, Aridata,
9 And Parmashta, and Arisai, and Aridai, and Vajezatha,
Parmasta, Arisai, Aridai y Vaizata,
10 The ten sons of Haman the son of Hammedatha, the enemy of the Jews, they slew; but on the spoil they laid not their hand.
los diez hijos de Amán, hijo de Hamedata, adversario de los judíos, pero no pusieron las manos sobre el despojo.
11 On that day the number of those that were slain in Shushan the palace was brought before the king.
En aquel día, cuando el rey obtuvo el recuento de los muertos en la ciudad Susa,
12 And the king said to Esther the queen, The Jews have slain and destroyed five hundred men in Shushan the palace, and the ten sons of Haman; what have they done in the rest of the king’s provinces? now what is thy petition? and it shall be granted thee: or what is thy request further? and it shall be done.
dijo el rey a la reina Ester: En Susa, la capital, los judíos mataron y destruyeron a 500 hombres y a los diez hijos de Amán. ¡Qué harían en las otras provincias del rey! Así pues, ¿cuál es tu petición? Pues te será concedida. ¿Qué más es tu demanda? Pues se te concederá.
13 Then said Esther, If it shall please the king, let it be granted to the Jews who are in Shushan to do to morrow also according to this day’s decree, and let Haman’s ten sons be hanged upon the gallows.
Y Ester respondió: Si place al rey, que se conceda también mañana a los judíos en Susa que hagan conforme a la ley de hoy, y que cuelguen en la horca a los diez hijos de Amán.
14 And the king commanded it so to be done: and the decree was given at Shushan; and they hanged Haman’s ten sons.
El rey ordenó que se hiciera así. La ley se promulgó en Susa, y colgaron los cuerpos de los diez hijos de Amán.
15 For the Jews that were in Shushan gathered themselves together on the fourteenth day also of the month Adar, and slew three hundred men at Shushan; but on the spoil they laid not their hand.
Los judíos que residían en Susa se reunieron también el día 14 del mes de Adar y mataron a 300 hombres en Susa, pero no pusieron las manos sobre el despojo.
16 But the other Jews that were in the king’s provinces gathered themselves together, and defended their lives, and had rest from their enemies, and slew of their foes seventy and five thousand, but they laid not their hands on the spoil,
En cuanto al resto de los judíos que estaban en las provincias del rey quienes se reunieron para defender sus vidas, tuvieron reposo de sus enemigos luego de matar entre los que los odiaban a 75.000, pero no pusieron las manos sobre el despojo.
17 On the thirteenth day of the month Adar; and on the fourteenth day of the same they rested, and made it a day of feasting and gladness.
Esto fue el día 13 del mes de Adar. Reposaron el 14 del mismo y lo tomaron como día de banquete y de alegría.
18 But the Jews that were at Shushan assembled together on the thirteenth day of the month, and on the fourteenth of it; and on the fifteenth day of the same they rested, and made it a day of feasting and gladness.
Pero los judíos que estaban en Susa se reunieron los días 13 y 14 del mismo mes. El 15 reposaron y lo tomaron como día de banquete y de alegría.
19 Therefore the Jews of the villages, that dwelt in the unwalled towns, made the fourteenth day of the month Adar a day of gladness and feasting, and a good day, and of sending portions one to another.
Por eso los judíos de las aldeas, que viven en pueblos no amurallados, toman el día 14 del mes de Adar como día de regocijo y fiesta, día de festividad y para enviar porciones escogidas unos a otros.
20 And Mordecai wrote these things, and sent letters to all the Jews that were in all the provinces of the king Ahasuerus, both near and far,
Y Mardoqueo escribió estas cosas y envió cartas a todos los judíos que había en todas las provincias del rey Asuero, próximas y lejanas,
21 To establish this among them, that they should keep the fourteenth day of the month Adar, and the fifteenth day of the same, yearly,
para ordenarles que cada año celebraran los días 14 y 15 del mes de Adar
22 As the days in which the Jews rested from their enemies, and the month which was turned to them from sorrow to joy, and from mourning into a good day: that they should make them days of feasting and joy, and of sending portions one to another, and gifts to the poor.
como días cuando los judíos tuvieron reposo de sus enemigos, en un mes que se transformó para ellos de tristeza en alegría y de luto en día de fiesta, y que los tomaran como días de banquete, de regocijo y de enviar porciones escogidas los unos a los otros, y dádivas a los pobres.
23 And the Jews undertook to do as they had begun, and as Mordecai had written to them;
Y los judíos se comprometieron a seguir esa práctica ya iniciada como Mardoqueo les escribió,
24 Because Haman the son of Hammedatha, the Agagite, the enemy of all the Jews, had devised against the Jews to destroy them, and had cast Pur, that is, the lot, to consume them, and to destroy them;
porque Amán, hijo de Hamedata, el agageo, adversario de todos los judíos, tramó la destrucción de los judíos y echó Pur, que es la suerte, para turbarlos y exterminarlos.
25 But when Esther came before the king, he commanded by letters that his wicked plot, which he devised against the Jews, should return upon his own head, and that he and his sons should be hanged on the gallows.
Pero cuando Ester presentó el asunto ante el rey, éste ordenó por decreto que recayera sobre la cabeza de Amán el perverso plan que tramó contra los judíos, y lo colgaran a él y a sus hijos en la horca.
26 Therefore they called these days Purim after the name of Pur. Therefore for all the words of this letter, and of that which they had seen concerning this matter, and which had come to them,
Por esto llamaron aquellos días Purim, del nombre Pur. Por tanto, a causa de todas las palabras de aquella carta, lo que ellos experimentaron con ese motivo, y lo que les aconteció,
27 The Jews ordained, and took upon them, and upon their seed, and upon all such as joined themselves to them, so as it should not fail, that they would keep these two days according to their writing, and according to their appointed time every year;
los judíos establecieron para ellos, para su descendencia y para todos los que se unieran a ellos, que sin falta ellos observarían cada año estos dos días según está escrito,
28 And that these days should be remembered and kept throughout every generation, every family, every province, and every city; and that these days of Purim should not fail to be observed among the Jews, nor the memorial of them perish from their seed.
y que estos días serían recordados y observados de generación en generación, de familia en familia, en cada provincia y en cada ciudad, y que estos días de Purim nunca cesarían entre los judíos, ni su recuerdo cesarían entre su descendencia.
29 Then Esther the queen, the daughter of Abihail, and Mordecai the Jew, wrote with all authority, to confirm this second letter of Purim.
Por tanto la reina Ester, hija de Abihail, y el judío Mardoqueo, escribieron con plena autoridad para confirmar esta segunda carta de Purim.
30 And he sent the letters to all the Jews, to the hundred twenty and seven provinces of the kingdom of Ahasuerus, with words of peace and truth,
[Mardoqueo] envió cartas a todos los judíos que estaban en las 127 provincias del reino de Asuero, con palabras de paz y verdad,
31 To confirm these days of Purim in their times appointed, according as Mordecai the Jew and Esther the queen had established for them, and as they had decreed for themselves and for their seed, the matters of the fastings and their lamentations.
para confirmar los días de Purim en su tiempo determinado, según lo que el judío Mardoqueo y la reina Ester ordenaron con respecto a ellos en lo relacionado con los ayunos y su clamor. Tomaron [los días de Purim] para ellos mismos y para su descendencia.
32 And the decree of Esther confirmed these matters of Purim; and it was written in the book.
La orden de Ester confirmó estas cosas del Purim, y fue escrito en el rollo.
