Deuteronomy 17

1 Thou shalt not sacrifice to the LORD thy God any bull, or sheep, in which is blemish, or any defect: for that is an abomination to the LORD thy God.

౧“ఎలాంటి మచ్చలు, లోపాలు ఉన్న ఎద్దులు, గొర్రెలు మీ యెహోవా దేవునికి బలిగా అర్పించకూడదు. అది మీ యెహోవా దేవునికి అసహ్యం.

2 If there shall be found among you, within any of thy gates which the LORD thy God giveth thee, man or woman, that hath wrought wickedness in the sight of the LORD thy God, in transgressing his covenant,

౨మీ యెహోవా దేవుని నిబంధన మీరి ఆయన దృష్టిలో దుర్మార్గం చేస్తూ నేనిచ్చిన ఆజ్ఞకు వ్యతిరేకంగా అన్యదేవుళ్ళకు, అంటే సూర్యునికి గానీ చంద్రునికి గానీ ఆకాశ నక్షత్రాల్లో దేనికైనా నమస్కరించి మొక్కే పురుషుడు, స్త్రీ ఎవరైనా మీ యెహోవా దేవుడు మీకిస్తున్న ఏ గ్రామంలోనైనా మీ మధ్య కనబడినప్పుడు,

3 And hath gone and served other gods, and worshipped them, either the sun, or moon, or any of the host of heaven, which I have not commanded;

౩ఆ విషయం మీకు తెలిసిన తరువాత మీరు విచారణ జరిగించాలి. అది నిజమైతే, అంటే అలాంటి అసహ్యమైన పని ఇశ్రాయేలీయుల్లో జరగడం నిజమైతే

4 And it shall be told thee, and thou hast heard of it, and enquired diligently, and, behold, it is true, and the thing certain, that such abomination is wrought in Israel:

౪ఆ చెడ్డ పని చేసిన పురుషుణ్ణి, స్త్రీని మీ ఊరి బయటకు తీసుకువెళ్ళి రాళ్లతో కొట్టి చంపాలి.

5 Then shalt thou bring forth to thy gates that man or that woman, who have committed that wicked thing, even that man or that woman, and shalt stone them with stones, till they die.

౫అలాంటి వాడికి మరణశిక్ష విధించాలంటే ఇద్దరు ముగ్గురు వ్యక్తుల సాక్ష్యం సరిపోతుంది.

6 At the mouth of two witnesses, or three witnesses, shall he that is worthy of death be put to death; but at the mouth of one witness he shall not be put to death.

౬కేవలం ఒక్క వ్యక్తి సాక్ష్యంపై అతణ్ణి చంపకూడదు.

7 The hands of the witnesses shall be first upon him to put him to death, and afterward the hands of all the people. So thou shalt remove the evil from among you.

౭అతన్ని చంపడానికి, మొదట సాక్షులు, తరువాత ప్రజలంతా అతని మీద చేతులు వేయాలి. ఆ విధంగా మీ మధ్య నుంచి ఆ చెడుతనాన్ని రూపుమాపాలి.

8 If there shall arise a matter too hard for thee in judgment, between blood and blood, between plea and plea, and between stroke and stroke, being matters of controversy within thy gates: then shalt thou arise, and go up to the place which the LORD thy God shall choose;

౮హత్యకూ, ప్రమాదవశాత్తూ జరిగిన మరణానికీ మధ్య, ఒకడి హక్కూ మరొకడి హక్కూ మధ్య, దెబ్బ తీయడం మరొక రకంగా నష్టపరచడం మధ్య, మీ గ్రామాల్లో భేదాలు వచ్చి, వీటి తేడా తెలుసుకోవడం మీకు కుదరకపోతే

9 And thou shalt come to the priests the Levites, and to the judge that shall be in those days, and enquire; and they shall show thee the sentence of judgment:

౯మీరు లేచి మీ యెహోవా దేవుడు ఏర్పరచుకొనే స్థలానికి వెళ్లి యాజకులైన లేవీయులనూ, విధుల్లో ఉన్న న్యాయాధిపతినీ విచారించాలి. వారు దానికి తగిన తీర్పు మీకు తెలియచేస్తారు.

10 And thou shalt do according to the sentence, which they of that place which the LORD shall choose shall show thee; and thou shalt observe to do according to all that they inform thee:

౧౦యెహోవా ఏర్పరచుకొనే చోటులో వాళ్ళు మీకు తెలియచేసే తీర్పు ప్రకారం మీరు జరిగించి వారు మీకు చెప్పే పరిష్కారం ప్రకారం మీరు చెయ్యాలి.

11 According to the sentence of the law which they shall teach thee, and according to the judgment which they shall tell thee, thou shalt do: thou shalt not decline from the sentence which they shall show thee, to the right hand, nor to the left.

౧౧వారు మీకు బోధించే చట్టాన్ని పాటించాలి. వారు ఇచ్చిన తీర్పు ప్రకారం జరిగించాలి. వారు మీకు చెప్పే మాట నుంచి కుడికిగాని ఎడమకుగాని తిరగకూడదు.

12 And the man that will do presumptuously, and will not hearken to the priest that standeth to minister there before the LORD thy God, or to the judge, even that man shall die: and thou shalt remove the evil from Israel.

౧౨ఆ ప్రదేశంలో ఎవరైనా అహంకారంతో మీ యెహోవా దేవునికి పరిచర్య చేయడానికి నిలిచే యాజకుని మాటగానీ ఆ న్యాయాధిపతి మాటగానీ వినకపోతే అతన్ని చంపివేయాలి. ఆ విధంగా దుర్మార్గాన్ని ఇశ్రాయేలు ప్రజల్లో నుంచి రూపుమాపాలి.

13 And all the people shall hear, and fear, and do no more presumptuously.

౧౩అప్పుడు ప్రజలంతా విని, భయపడి అహంకారంతో ప్రవర్తించకుండా ఉంటారు.

14 When thou art come into the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, and shalt possess it, and shalt dwell in it, and shalt say, I will set a king over me, like as all the nations that are about me;

౧౪మీ యెహోవా దేవుడు మీకిస్తున్న దేశంలో మీరు ప్రవేశించి దాన్ని స్వాధీనం చేసుకుని అందులో నివసించి, మా చుట్టూ ఉన్న అందరి ప్రజల్లాగా మా మీద రాజును నియమించుకుంటాం అనుకుంటే, మీ యెహోవా దేవుడు ఎన్నుకునే వ్యక్తిని తప్పకుండా మీ మీద రాజుగా నియమించుకోవాలి.

15 Thou shalt surely set him king over thee, whom the LORD thy God shall choose: one from among thy brethren shalt thou set king over thee: thou mayest not set a stranger over thee, who is not thy brother.

౧౫మీ సోదరుల్లోనే ఒకణ్ణి మీ మీద రాజుగా నియమించుకోవాలి. మీ సోదరుడుకాని విదేశీయుణ్ణి మీపై రాజుగా నియమించుకోకూడదు.

16 But he shall not multiply horses to himself, nor cause the people to return to Egypt, to the end that he should multiply horses: forasmuch as the LORD hath said to you, Ye shall henceforth return no more that way.

౧౬అతడు గుర్రాలను చాలా ఎక్కువగా సంపాదించుకోకూడదు. గుర్రాలను ఎక్కువగా సంపాదించడానికి ప్రజలను ఐగుప్తుకు తిరిగి వెళ్లనివ్వకూడదు. ఎందుకంటే యెహోవా ఇక మీదట మీరు ఈ దారిలో వెళ్లకూడదని మీతో చెప్పాడు.

17 Neither shall he multiply wives to himself, that his heart may turn not away: neither shall he greatly multiply to himself silver and gold.

౧౭తన హృదయం తొలగిపోకుండా అతడు ఎక్కువమంది స్త్రీలను పెళ్లి చేసుకోకూడదు. వెండి బంగారాలను అతడు తన కోసం ఎక్కువగా సంపాదించుకోకూడదు.

18 And it shall be, when he sitteth upon the throne of his kingdom, that he shall write him a copy of this law in a book out of that which is before the priests the Levites:

౧౮అతడు రాజ్యసింహాసనంపై కూర్చున్న తరువాత లేవీయులైన యాజకుల స్వాధీనంలో ఉన్న గ్రంథాన్ని చూసి ఆ ధర్మశాస్త్రానికి ఒక ప్రతిని తనకోసం రాసుకోవాలి.

19 And it shall be with him, and he shall read in it all the days of his life: that he may learn to fear the LORD his God, to keep all the words of this law and these statutes, to do them:

౧౯అది అతని దగ్గర ఉండాలి. అతడు జీవించి ఉన్న కాలమంతా ఆ గ్రంథం చదువుతూ ఉండాలి.

20 That his heart may not be lifted above his brethren, and that he may not turn aside from the commandment, to the right hand, or to the left: to the end that he may prolong his days in his kingdom, he, and his children, in the midst of Israel.

౨౦అలా చేస్తున్నప్పుడు దేవుడైన యెహోవా పట్ల భయంతో తన సోదరులపై గర్వించకుండా ఈ ఆజ్ఞల విషయంలో కుడికి గాని ఎడమకు గాని తొలగకుండా ఉంటాడు. అప్పుడు రాజ్యంలో అతడూ అతని కొడుకులూ ఇశ్రాయేలులో ఎక్కువ కాలం జీవిస్తారు.”
