Deuteronomy 16

1 Observe the month Abib, and keep the passover to the LORD thy God: for in the month of Abib the LORD thy God brought thee forth from Egypt by night.

"Prends garde au mois de la germination, pour célébrer la Pâque en l’honneur de l’Éternel, ton Dieu; car c’est dans le mois de la germination que l’Éternel, ton Dieu, t’a fait sortir d’Egypte, la nuit.

2 Thou shalt therefore sacrifice the passover to the LORD thy God, of the flock and the herd, in the place which the LORD shall choose to place his name there.

Tu immoleras le sacrifice pascal à l’Éternel, ton Dieu, parmi le menu et le gros bétail, dans le lieu que l’Éternel aura choisi pour y fixer son nom.

3 Thou shalt eat no leavened bread with it; seven days shalt thou eat unleavened bread with it, even the bread of affliction; for thou camest forth from the land of Egypt in haste: that thou mayest remember the day when thou camest forth from the land of Egypt all the days of thy life.

Tu ne dois pas manger de pain levé avec ce sacrifice; durant sept jours tu mangeras en outre des azymes, pain de misère, car c’est avec précipitation que tu as quitté le pays d’Egypte, et il faut que tu te souviennes, tous les jours de ta vie, du jour où tu as quitté le pays d’Egypte.

4 And there shall be no leavened bread seen with thee in all thy land seven days; neither shall there any thing of the flesh, which thou didst sacrifice the first day at evening, remain all night until the morning.

Qu’on ne voie pas de levain chez toi, dans tout ton territoire, durant sept jours, et qu’il ne reste rien, le lendemain, de la chair du sacrifice offert le soir du premier jour.

5 Thou mayest not sacrifice the passover within any of thy gates, which the LORD thy God giveth thee:

Tu ne pourras pas immoler l’agneau pascal dans quelqu’une des villes que l’Éternel, ton Dieu, te donnera;

6 But at the place which the LORD thy God shall choose to place his name in, there thou shalt sacrifice the passover at evening, at the setting of the sun, at the time of thy departure from Egypt.

mais uniquement au lieu que l’Éternel, ton Dieu, aura choisi pour y faire résider son nom, là tu immoleras le sacrifice pascal sur le soir, au coucher du soleil, à l’anniversaire de ta sortie d’Egypte.

7 And thou shalt roast and eat it in the place which the LORD thy God shall choose: and thou shalt return in the morning, and go to thy tents.

Tu le feras cuire et le mangeras en ce même lieu que l’Éternel, ton Dieu, aura choisi; puis, le lendemain, tu pourras t’en retourner dans tes demeures.

8 Six days thou shalt eat unleavened bread: and on the seventh day shall be a solemn assembly to the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt do no work.

Six jours tu mangeras des azymes; de plus, le septième jour, il y aura une fête solennelle pour l’Éternel, ton Dieu: tu ne feras aucun travail.

9 Seven weeks shalt thou number to thee: begin to number the seven weeks from the time when thou beginnest to put the sickle to the grain.

Puis tu compteras sept semaines: aussitôt qu’on mettra la faucille aux blés, tu commenceras à compter ces sept semaines.

10 And thou shalt keep the feast of weeks to the LORD thy God with a tribute of a freewill offering of thy hand, which thou shalt give to the LORD thy God, according as the LORD thy God hath blessed thee:

Et tu célébreras une fête des semaines en l’honneur de l’Éternel, ton Dieu, à proportion des dons que ta main pourra offrir, selon que l’Éternel, ton Dieu, t’aura béni.

11 And thou shalt rejoice before the LORD thy God, thou, and thy son, and thy daughter, and thy male, and female servant, and the Levite that is within thy gates, and the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, that are among you, in the place which the LORD thy God hath chosen to place his name there.

Et tu te réjouiras en présence de l’Éternel, ton Dieu, toi, ton fils et ta fille, ton esclave et ta servante, le Lévite qui sera dans tes murs, l’étranger, l’orphelin et la veuve qui seront près de toi, dans l’enceinte que l’Éternel, ton Dieu, aura choisie pour y faire habiter son nom.

12 And thou shalt remember that thou wast a slave in Egypt: and thou shalt observe and do these statutes.

Tu te souviendras que tu as été esclave en Egypte, et tu observeras fidèlement ces lois.

13 Thou shalt observe the feast of tabernacles seven days, after that thou hast gathered in thy grain and thy wine:

Tu célébreras la fête des tentes durant sept jours, quand tu rentreras les produits de ton aire et de ton pressoir;

14 And thou shalt rejoice in thy feast, thou, and thy son, and thy daughter, and thy male servant, and thy female servant, and the Levite, the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, that are within thy gates.

et tu te réjouiras pendant la fête et, avec toi, ton fils et ta fille, ton serviteur et ta servante, et le Lévite, l’étranger, l’orphelin, la veuve qui seront dans tes murs.

15 Seven days shalt thou keep a solemn feast to the LORD thy God in the place which the LORD shall choose: because the LORD thy God shall bless thee in all thy increase, and in all the works of thy hands, therefore thou shalt surely rejoice.

Tu fêteras ces sept jours en l’honneur de l’Éternel, ton Dieu, dans le lieu qu’il aura choisi; car il te bénira, l’Éternel, ton Dieu, dans tous tes revenus, dans tout le labeur de tes mains, et tu pourras t’abandonner à la joie.

16 Three times in a year shall all thy males appear before the LORD thy God in the place which he shall choose; in the feast of unleavened bread, and in the feast of weeks, and in the feast of tabernacles: and they shall not appear before the LORD empty:

Trois fois l’an, tous tes mâles paraîtront en présence du Seigneur, ton Dieu, dans l’endroit qu’il aura élu: à la fête des azymes, à celle des semaines et à celle des tentes. Et que l’on ne paraisse pas les mains vides en présence du Seigneur.

17 Every man shall give as he is able, according to the blessing of the LORD thy God which he hath given thee.

Mais chacun donnera selon ses moyens, selon les bénédictions que l’Éternel, ton Dieu, t’aura dispensées.

18 Judges and officers shalt thou make thee in all thy gates, which the LORD thy God giveth thee, throughout thy tribes: and they shall judge the people with just judgment.

Tu institueras des juges et des magistrats dans toutes les villes que l’Éternel, ton Dieu, te donnera, dans chacune de tes tribus; et ils devront juger le peuple selon la justice.

19 Thou shalt not pervert judgment; thou shalt not respect persons, neither take a bribe: for a bribe doth blind the eyes of the wise, and pervert the words of the righteous.

Ne fais pas fléchir le droit, n’aie pas égard à la personne, et n’accepte point de présent corrupteur, car la corruption aveugle les yeux des sages et fausse la parole des justes.

20 That which is altogether just shalt thou follow, that thou mayest live, and inherit the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.

C’Est la justice, la justice seule que tu dois rechercher, si tu veux te maintenir en possession du pays que l’Éternel, ton Dieu, te destine.

21 Thou shalt not plant thee a grove of any trees near to the altar of the LORD thy God, which thou shalt make for thee.

Ne plante chez toi ni bosquet ni arbre quelconque auprès de l’autel que tu devras ériger à l’Éternel, ton Dieu;

22 Neither shalt thou set thee up any image; which the LORD thy God hateth.

et n’érige pas de statue chez toi, chose odieuse à l’Éternel, ton Dieu.
