Acts 14

1 And it came to pass in Iconium, that they went both together into the synagogue of the Jews, and so spoke, that a great multitude both of the Jews and also of the Greeks believed.

ഒരു ശബ്ബത്തുനാളിൽ പൗലോസും ബർന്നബാസും ഒരുമിച്ച് ഇക്കോന്യയിലുള്ള യെഹൂദരുടെ പള്ളിയിൽ ചെന്നു. അവർ അവിടെ ശക്തിയോടെ പ്രസംഗിച്ചു; യെഹൂദരും ഗ്രീക്കുകാരുമായ നിരവധി ആളുകൾ (കർത്താവായ യേശുവിൽ) വിശ്വസിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു.

2 But the unbelieving Jews stirred up the Gentiles, and made their minds evil affected against the brethren.

എന്നാൽ, വിശ്വസിക്കാതിരുന്ന യെഹൂദർ പൗലോസിനോടും ബർന്നബാസിനോടും യെഹൂദേതരരുടെ മനസ്സുകളിൽ കഠിനവിദ്വേഷമുണ്ടാക്കി. അവർക്കെതിരേ യെഹൂദേതരരെ ഇളക്കിവിട്ടു.

3 A long time therefore they abode speaking boldly in the Lord, who gave testimony to the word of his grace, and granted signs and wonders to be done by their hands.

എങ്കിലും പൗലോസും ബർന്നബാസും കർത്താവിനുവേണ്ടി സധൈര്യം പ്രസംഗിച്ചുകൊണ്ടു വളരെനാൾ അവിടെ ചെലവഴിച്ചു. ചിഹ്നങ്ങളും അത്ഭുതങ്ങളും പ്രവർത്തിക്കാൻ കർത്താവ് അവർക്ക് ശക്തിനൽകിക്കൊണ്ട് തന്റെ കൃപയുടെ സന്ദേശത്തിന്റെ ആധികാരികത തെളിയിച്ചു.

4 But the multitude of the city was divided: and part held with the Jews, and part with the apostles.

പട്ടണത്തിലെ ജനങ്ങൾ ഭിന്നിച്ചു; ചിലർ യെഹൂദാപക്ഷത്തും മറ്റുള്ളവർ അപ്പൊസ്തലന്മാരുടെ പക്ഷത്തും ചേർന്നു.

5 And when there was an assault made both of the Gentiles, and also of the Jews with their rulers, to use them despitefully, and to stone them,

യെഹൂദേതരരും യെഹൂദരുമായ ചിലർ അവരുടെ നേതാക്കന്മാരോടുകൂടെ അപ്പൊസ്തലന്മാരെ ഉപദ്രവിക്കാനും കല്ലെറിയാനും ഗൂഢാലോചന നടത്തി.

6 Being aware of it, they fled to Lystra and Derbe, cities of Lycaonia, and to the surrounding region:

എന്നാൽ അപ്പൊസ്തലന്മാർ അതു മനസ്സിലാക്കി. ലുസ്ത്ര, ദെർബ എന്നീ ലുക്കവോന്യ പട്ടണങ്ങളിലേക്കും അവയുടെ സമീപപ്രദേശങ്ങളിലേക്കും ഓടി രക്ഷപ്പെട്ടു.

7 And there they preached the gospel.

അവിടെയും അവർ സുവിശേഷം അറിയിക്കുന്നത് തുടർന്നു.

8 And there sat a certain man at Lystra, impotent in his feet, being a cripple from his mother’s womb, who had never walked:

ലുസ്ത്രയിൽ ജന്മനാ മുടന്തനും ഒരിക്കലും നടന്നിട്ടില്ലാത്തവനുമായ ഒരു മനുഷ്യൻ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

9 The same heard Paul speak: who steadfastly beholding him, and perceiving that he had faith to be healed,

അയാൾ പൗലോസിന്റെ വാക്കുകൾ ശ്രദ്ധിച്ചുകേട്ടു. പൗലോസ് അയാളെ സൂക്ഷിച്ചുനോക്കി. സൗഖ്യംപ്രാപിക്കാനുള്ള വിശ്വാസമുണ്ടെന്നു മനസ്സിലാക്കിയിട്ട്,

10 Said with a loud voice, Stand upright on thy feet. And he leaped and walked.

“എഴുന്നേറ്റു നിന്റെ കാലുറപ്പിച്ചു നിൽക്കുക” എന്ന് ഉച്ചസ്വരത്തിൽ പറഞ്ഞു. അപ്പോൾത്തന്നെ ആ മനുഷ്യൻ ചാടിയെഴുന്നേറ്റു നടന്നുതുടങ്ങി.

11 And when the people saw what Paul had done, they lifted up their voices, saying in the speech of Lycaonia, The gods have come down to us in the likeness of men.

പൗലോസ് ചെയ്തതുകണ്ട ജനക്കൂട്ടം, “ദേവന്മാർ മനുഷ്യരൂപത്തിൽ നമ്മുടെ ഇടയിൽ ഇറങ്ങിവന്നിരിക്കുന്നു!” എന്നു ലുക്കവോന്യ ഭാഷയിൽ വിളിച്ചുപറഞ്ഞു.

12 And they called Barnabas, Jupiter; and Paul, Mercury, because he was the chief speaker.

ബർന്നബാസിനെ അവർ സീയൂസ് എന്നും പൗലോസ് മുഖ്യപ്രസംഗകൻ ആയിരുന്നതിനാൽ അദ്ദേഹത്തെ ഹെർമെസ് എന്നും വിളിച്ചു.

13 Then the priest of Jupiter, who was before their city, brought oxen and garlands to the gates, and would have done sacrifice with the people.

നഗരത്തിനു തൊട്ടുവെളിയിലുള്ള സീയൂസ് ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പുരോഹിതനും ജനങ്ങളും അവർക്കു യാഗം അർപ്പിക്കാൻ നിശ്ചയിച്ച് യാഗത്തിനായി കാളകൾ, പൂമാലകൾ എന്നിവ നഗരകവാടത്തിൽ കൊണ്ടുവന്നു.

14 Which when the apostles, Barnabas and Paul, heard of, they tore their clothes, and ran in among the people, crying out,

അപ്പൊസ്തലന്മാരായ ബർന്നബാസും പൗലോസും ഇതേപ്പറ്റി കേട്ടപ്പോൾ തങ്ങളുടെ വസ്ത്രംകീറിക്കൊണ്ട് ജനക്കൂട്ടത്തിലേക്ക് ഓടിച്ചെന്ന് ഇങ്ങനെ വിളിച്ചുപറഞ്ഞു:

15 And saying, Sirs, why do ye these things? We also are men of like passions with you, and preach to you that ye should turn from these vanities to the living God, who made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all things that are in them:

“സ്നേഹിതരേ, നിങ്ങളെന്താണു ചെയ്യുന്നത്? ഞങ്ങളും നിങ്ങളെപ്പോലെ വെറും മനുഷ്യരാണ്. നിങ്ങൾ ഈ നിരർഥകാര്യങ്ങൾ ഉപേക്ഷിച്ച് ആകാശവും ഭൂമിയും സമുദ്രവും അവയിലുള്ള സകലതും സൃഷ്ടിച്ച ജീവനുള്ള ദൈവത്തിലേക്കു തിരിയണമെന്നുള്ള സുവിശേഷം അറിയിക്കാനാണ് ഞങ്ങൾ നിങ്ങളുടെ അടുക്കൽ വന്നത്.

16 Who in times past allowed all nations to walk in their own ways.

പൂർവകാലങ്ങളിൽ ദൈവം ജനതകളെയെല്ലാം സ്വന്തം വഴികളിൽ നടക്കാൻ അനുവദിച്ചു.

17 Nevertheless he left not himself without witness, in that he did good, and gave us rain from heaven, and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness.

എങ്കിലും ദൈവം മനുഷ്യർക്കു ചെയ്യുന്ന നന്മകളാൽ തന്നെക്കുറിച്ചുള്ള സാക്ഷ്യം മുദ്രണംചെയ്തിട്ടുണ്ട്: യഥാകാലം ആകാശത്തുനിന്നു മഴപെയ്യിക്കുകയും നിങ്ങൾക്കു വിളവുകൾ നൽകുകയുംചെയ്യുന്നു. അവിടന്ന് നിങ്ങൾക്കു സമൃദ്ധമായി ഭക്ഷണം നൽകുന്നു. നിങ്ങളുടെ ഹൃദയത്തെ ആനന്ദംകൊണ്ടു നിറയ്ക്കുന്നു.”

18 And with these sayings they scarce restrained the people, from doing sacrifice to them.

ഇത്രയൊക്കെ പറഞ്ഞിട്ടും അവർക്കു യാഗംകഴിക്കുന്നതിൽനിന്ന് ജനക്കൂട്ടത്തെ പിന്തിരിപ്പിക്കാൻ പൗലോസിനും ബർന്നബാസിനും പിന്നെയും പാടുപെടേണ്ടിവന്നു.

19 And there came there certain Jews from Antioch and Iconium, who persuaded the people, and, having stoned Paul, drew him out of the city, supposing him to be dead.

പിന്നീട് അന്ത്യോക്യയിൽനിന്നും ഇക്കോന്യയിൽനിന്നും ചില യെഹൂദർ വന്ന് ജനക്കൂട്ടത്തെ അവരുടെ വശത്താക്കി. അവർ പൗലോസിനെ കല്ലെറിഞ്ഞു. മരിച്ചെന്നു കരുതി അദ്ദേഹത്തെ വലിച്ചിഴച്ച് പട്ടണത്തിനുവെളിയിൽ കളഞ്ഞു.

20 But, as the disciples stood around him, he rose, and came into the city: and the next day he departed with Barnabas to Derbe.

എന്നാൽ ശിഷ്യന്മാർ തനിക്കുചുറ്റും വന്നുകൂടിയപ്പോൾ അദ്ദേഹം എഴുന്നേറ്റുനിന്നു; പട്ടണത്തിലേക്കു തിരികെപ്പോയി. അടുത്തദിവസം പൗലോസും ബർന്നബാസും ദെർബയിലേക്കു യാത്രയായി.

21 And when they had preached the gospel to that city, and had taught many, they returned again to Lystra, and to Iconium, and to Antioch,

പൗലോസും ബർന്നബാസും ആ പട്ടണത്തിൽ സുവിശേഷം പ്രസംഗിച്ച് വലിയൊരുകൂട്ടം ആളുകളെ ശിഷ്യരാക്കി. അതിനുശേഷം അവരുടെ മടക്കയാത്രയിൽ ലുസ്ത്ര, ഇക്കോന്യ, അന്ത്യോക്യ എന്നിവിടങ്ങൾ സന്ദർശിച്ച്

22 Confirming the souls of the disciples, exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.

ശിഷ്യന്മാരെ ശക്തിപ്പെടുത്തി. വിശ്വാസത്തിൽ അചഞ്ചലരായിരിക്കുക. കാരണം “ഒട്ടേറെ കഷ്ടതകൾ സഹിച്ചുവേണം നമുക്ക് ദൈവരാജ്യത്തിൽ പ്രവേശിക്കാൻ,” എന്ന് അവരെ പ്രബോധിപ്പിച്ചു.

23 And when they had ordained for them elders in every church, and had prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord, on whom they believed.

പൗലോസും ബർന്നബാസും ഓരോ സഭയിലും സഭാമുഖ്യന്മാരെ നിയമിച്ചു. പ്രാർഥനയോടെയും ഉപവാസത്തോടെയും തങ്ങൾ വിശ്വാസമർപ്പിച്ച കർത്താവിൽ അവരെ ഭരമേൽപ്പിച്ചു.

24 And after they had passed throughout Pisidia, they came to Pamphylia.

പിസിദ്യയിലൂടെ സഞ്ചരിച്ച് അവർ പംഫുല്യാപ്രവിശ്യയിലെത്തി.

25 And when they had preached the word in Perga, they went down into Attalia:

അവിടെ പെർഗാ പട്ടണത്തിൽ വചനം പ്രസംഗിച്ചശേഷം അവർ അത്തല്യാ തുറമുഖത്തേക്കു പോയി.

26 And from there sailed to Antioch, where they had been commended from to the grace of God for the work which they fulfilled.

അത്തല്യയിൽനിന്ന് അവർ കപ്പലിൽ തിരികെ അന്ത്യോക്യയിലേക്കു യാത്രയായി. അവർ ഇപ്പോൾ പൂർത്തിയാക്കിയ പ്രവർത്തനത്തിന് അവരെ ദൈവകൃപയിൽ സമർപ്പിച്ച് അയച്ചത് അവിടെവെച്ചായിരുന്നല്ലോ.

27 And when they had come, and had gathered the church together, they reported all that God had done with them, and that he had opened the door of faith to the Gentiles.

അന്ത്യോക്യയിൽ എത്തിയശേഷം അവർ സഭയെ വിളിച്ചുകൂട്ടി. ദൈവം യെഹൂദേതരർക്കായി വിശ്വാസത്തിന്റെ വാതിൽ തുറന്നുകൊടുത്തതുൾപ്പെടെ, അവിടന്നു തങ്ങളിലൂടെ ചെയ്ത എല്ലാക്കാര്യങ്ങളും അവരോടു വിശദീകരിച്ചു.

28 And there they abode a long time with the disciples.

അതിനുശേഷം ശിഷ്യരോടുകൂടെ അവർ ഏറെക്കാലം അവിടെ താമസിച്ചു.
