Acts 14

1 And it came to pass in Iconium, that they went both together into the synagogue of the Jews, and so spoke, that a great multitude both of the Jews and also of the Greeks believed.

Or il arriva à Icone, qu’ils entrèrent ensemble dans la synagogue, et parlèrent de telle sorte, qu’une grande multitude de Juifs et de Grecs embrassa la foi.

2 But the unbelieving Jews stirred up the Gentiles, and made their minds evil affected against the brethren.

Mais ceux des Juifs qui demeurèrent incrédules, excitèrent et irritèrent l’esprit des gentils contre les frères.

3 A long time therefore they abode speaking boldly in the Lord, who gave testimony to the word of his grace, and granted signs and wonders to be done by their hands.

Ils demeurèrent donc là longtemps, agissant avec assurance dans le Seigneur, qui rendait témoignage à la parole de sa grâce, opérant des miracles et des prodiges par leurs mains.

4 But the multitude of the city was divided: and part held with the Jews, and part with the apostles.

Ainsi toute la ville se divisa; les uns étaient pour les Juifs, et les autres pour les apôtres.

5 And when there was an assault made both of the Gentiles, and also of the Jews with their rulers, to use them despitefully, and to stone them,

Et comme les gentils et les Juifs, avec leurs chefs, allaient se jeter sur eux pour les outrager et les lapider,

6 Being aware of it, they fled to Lystra and Derbe, cities of Lycaonia, and to the surrounding region:

Les apôtres l’ayant su, s’enfuirent à Lystre et à Derbe, villes de Lycaonie, et dans tout le pays d’alentour, et ils y évangélisaient.

7 And there they preached the gospel.

Or il y avait assis à Lystre, un certain homme perclus de ses pieds. Il était boiteux dès le sein de sa mère, et n’avait jamais marché.

8 And there sat a certain man at Lystra, impotent in his feet, being a cripple from his mother’s womb, who had never walked:

Il entendit Paul parler; et Paul, le regardant et voyant qu’il avait la foi qu’il serait guéri,

9 The same heard Paul speak: who steadfastly beholding him, and perceiving that he had faith to be healed,

Dit d’une voix forte: Lève-toi droit sur tes pieds. Et il s’élança, et il marchait.

10 Said with a loud voice, Stand upright on thy feet. And he leaped and walked.

Or la foule, ayant vu ce qu’avait fait Paul, éleva la voix, disant en lycaonien: Des dieux devenus semblables à des hommes sont descendus vers nous.

11 And when the people saw what Paul had done, they lifted up their voices, saying in the speech of Lycaonia, The gods have come down to us in the likeness of men.

Et ils appelaient Barnabé Jupiter; et Paul, Mercure, parce que c’était lui qui portait la parole.

12 And they called Barnabas, Jupiter; and Paul, Mercury, because he was the chief speaker.

Bien plus, le prêtre de Jupiter, qui était près de la ville, étant venu devant la porte avec des taureaux et des couronnes, voulait, avec le peuple, leur sacrifier.

13 Then the priest of Jupiter, who was before their city, brought oxen and garlands to the gates, and would have done sacrifice with the people.

Ce qu’ayant entendu, les apôtres Barnabé et Paul déchirèrent leurs tuniques, et s’élancèrent dans la foule, criant,

14 Which when the apostles, Barnabas and Paul, heard of, they tore their clothes, and ran in among the people, crying out,

Et disant: Hommes, pourquoi faites-vous cela? Nous aussi, nous sommes des mortels, des hommes semblables à vous, qui vous exhortons à quitter ces choses vaines pour le Dieu vivant, qui a fait le ciel, la terre, la mer, et tout ce qu’ils contiennent;

15 And saying, Sirs, why do ye these things? We also are men of like passions with you, and preach to you that ye should turn from these vanities to the living God, who made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all things that are in them:

Qui, dans les générations passées, a laissé toutes les nations marcher dans leurs voies.

16 Who in times past allowed all nations to walk in their own ways.

Mais néanmoins il ne s’est pas laissé lui-même sans témoignage, répandant du ciel ses biens, en dispensant les pluies et les saisons fécondes, en nous donnant la nourriture en abondance, et en remplissant nos cœurs de joie.

17 Nevertheless he left not himself without witness, in that he did good, and gave us rain from heaven, and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness.

Même en disant ces choses, ils empêchèrent à peine la foule de leur sacrifier.

18 And with these sayings they scarce restrained the people, from doing sacrifice to them.

Cependant survinrent quelques Juifs d’Antioche et d’Icone, et, le peuple gagné, ils lapidèrent Paul, et le traînèrent hors de la ville, croyant qu’il était mort.

19 And there came there certain Jews from Antioch and Iconium, who persuaded the people, and, having stoned Paul, drew him out of the city, supposing him to be dead.

Mais les disciples l’entourant, il se leva, et rentra dans la ville, et le jour suivant, il partit pour Derbe avec Barnabé.

20 But, as the disciples stood around him, he rose, and came into the city: and the next day he departed with Barnabas to Derbe.

Et lorsqu’ils eurent évangélisé cette ville, et instruit un grand nombre de personnes, ils revinrent à Lystre, à Icone et à Antioche,

21 And when they had preached the gospel to that city, and had taught many, they returned again to Lystra, and to Iconium, and to Antioch,

Affermissant les âmes des disciples, les exhortant à persévérer dans la foi, et disant que c’est par beaucoup de tribulations qu’il nous faut entrer dans le royaume de Dieu.

22 Confirming the souls of the disciples, exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.

Et après avoir ordonné des prêtres en chaque église, et avoir prié et jeûné, ils les recommandèrent au Seigneur, en qui ils avaient cru.

23 And when they had ordained for them elders in every church, and had prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord, on whom they believed.

Traversant ensuite la Pisidie, ils vinrent dans la Pamphylie;

24 And after they had passed throughout Pisidia, they came to Pamphylia.

Puis ayant annoncé la parole du Seigneur à Perge, ils descendirent à Attalie,

25 And when they had preached the word in Perga, they went down into Attalia:

Et de là, firent voile pour Antioche, d’où on les avait commis à la grâce de Dieu pour l’œuvre qu’ils avaient accomplie.

26 And from there sailed to Antioch, where they had been commended from to the grace of God for the work which they fulfilled.

Or, lorsqu’ils furent arrivés, et qu’ils eurent assemblé l’Eglise, ils racontèrent combien Dieu avait fait de grandes choses avec eux, et qu’il avait ouvert aux gentils la porte de la foi.

27 And when they had come, and had gathered the church together, they reported all that God had done with them, and that he had opened the door of faith to the Gentiles.

Et ils demeurèrent là un certain temps avec les disciples.

28 And there they abode a long time with the disciples.
