2 Samuel 18
1 And David numbered the people that were with him, and set over them captains of thousands and captains of hundreds.
૧દાઉદે તેના સૈનિકો જે તેની સાથે હતા તેઓની ગણતરી કરી અને તેણે સહસ્રાધિપતિઓ તથા શતાધિપતિઓ નીમ્યા.
2 And David sent forth a third part of the people under the hand of Joab, and a third part under the hand of Abishai the son of Zeruiah, Joab’s brother, and a third part under the hand of Ittai the Gittite. And the king said to the people, I will surely go forth with you myself also.
૨દાઉદે ત્રીજા ભાગના લોકોને યોઆબના હાથ નીચે, ત્રીજા ભાગને યોઆબના ભાઈ સરુયાના દીકરા અબિશાયના હાથ નીચે અને ત્રીજા ભાગને ઇત્તાય ગિત્તીના હાથ નીચે સુપ્રત કર્યા. રાજાએ સૈન્યને કહ્યું “હું જાતે તમારી સાથે આવીશ.”
3 But the people answered, Thou shalt not go forth: for if we flee away, they will not care for us; neither if half of us die, will they care for us: but now thou art worth ten thousand of us: therefore now it is better that thou shouldest help us out of the city.
૩પણ સૈનિકોએ કહ્યું, “તમારે યુદ્ધમાં આવવું નહિ, કેમ કે જો અમે નાસી જઈશું તોપણ તેઓ અમારી પરવા કરશે નહિ, જો અમારામાંથી અડધા લોકો મરી જાય તોપણ માણસોને અમારી દરકાર રહેશે. પણ તમે અમારા માટે દસ હજાર માણસોની ગરજ સારે એવા છો. એ માટે તમે અહીં નગરમાં રહીને અમને મદદ કરવા તૈયાર રહો એ વધારે સારું છે”
4 And the king said to them, What seemeth to you best I will do. And the king stood by the gate side, and all the people came out by hundreds and by thousands.
૪તેથી રાજાએ તેઓને કહ્યું, “તમને જેમ સારું લાગે તેમ હું કરીશ.” ત્યારે સૈન્ય સો અને હજારની ટુકડીમાં બહાર ગયું પછી રાજા નગરના દરવાજા પાસે ઊભો રહ્યો.
5 And the king commanded Joab and Abishai and Ittai, saying, Deal gently for my sake with the young man, even with Absalom. And all the people heard when the king gave all the captains charge concerning Absalom.
૫રાજાએ યોઆબ, અબિશાય અને ઇત્તાયને આજ્ઞા કરી, “મારી ખાતર તમે જુવાન આબ્શાલોમ સાથે શાંતિપૂર્વક બોલજો.” આબ્શાલોમ વિષે રાજાએ સેનાપતિને જે આજ્ઞા આપી તે સર્વ લોકોએ સાંભળી.
6 So the people went out into the field against Israel: and the battle was in the forest of Ephraim;
૬આ પ્રમાણે દાઉદનું સૈન્ય ઇઝરાયલની સેના સામે યુદ્ધ કરવા રણભૂમિમાં ગયું; અને એફ્રાઇમના જંગલમાં યુદ્ધ ચાલ્યું.
7 Where the people of Israel were slain before the servants of David, and there was there a great slaughter that day of twenty thousand men.
૭દાઉદના સૈનિકો આગળ ઇઝરાયલના સૈન્યની હાર થઈ. તે દિવસે યુદ્ધમાં વીસ હજાર માણસોએ પોતાના જીવ ગુમાવ્યા.
8 For the battle was there scattered over the face of all the country: and the forest devoured more people that day than the sword devoured.
૮દેશભરમાં યુદ્ધ ફેલાઈ ગયું તે દિવસે તલવારથી જેટલા માણસો મરાયા તેના કરતાં જંગલનાં વૃક્ષો વચ્ચે અટવાઈને વધારે માણસો મરાયા.
9 And Absalom met the servants of David. And Absalom rode upon a mule, and the mule went under the thick boughs of a great oak, and his head caught fast in the oak, and he was left hanging between the heaven and the earth; and the mule that was under him went away.
૯યુદ્ધના સમયે એવું બન્યું કે આબ્શાલોમની દાઉદના કેટલાક સૈનિકો સાથે મુલાકાત થઈ. આબ્શાલોમ ખચ્ચર પર સવારી કરીને જતો હતો. તે ખચ્ચર એક મોટા એલોન વૃક્ષની ગીચ ડાળીઓ નીચે આવ્યું. તેની ગરદન એલોનવૃક્ષની ડાળીઓમાં ભરાઈ ગઈ. તે આકાશ તથા પૃથ્વી વચ્ચે લટકી રહ્યો. ખચ્ચર આગળ ચાલ્યું ગયું.
10 And a certain man saw it, and told Joab, and said, Behold, I saw Absalom hanging in an oak.
૧૦એક માણસે તે જોયું અને તેણે જઈને યોઆબને ખબર આપી, “જો, મેં આબ્શાલોમને એલોન વૃક્ષની ડાળીએ લટકી રહેલો જોયો.”
11 And Joab said to the man that told him, And, behold, thou sawest him, and why didst thou not smite him there to the ground? and I would have given thee ten shekels of silver, and a belt.
૧૧આબ્શાલોમ વિષે ખબર આપનાર માણસને યોઆબે કહ્યું, “તેં તેને જોયો તો પછી તેં તેને શા માટે જમીનદોસ્ત કરી દીધો નહિ? જો એવું કર્યું હોત તો હું તને દસ-ચાંદીના સિક્કા અને એક કમરબંધ આપત.”
12 And the man said to Joab, Though I should receive a thousand shekels of silver in my hand, yet would I not put forth my hand against the king’s son: for in our hearing the king charged thee and Abishai and Ittai, saying, Beware that none touch the young man Absalom.
૧૨પેલા માણસે યોઆબને કહ્યું, “જો તું મને ચાંદીના હજાર સિક્કા આપો તોપણ હું રાજાના દીકરા સામે મારો હાથ ઉગામું નહિ કેમ કે, રાજાએ તને, અબિશાયને તથા ઇત્તાયને જે હુકમ કર્યો હતો તે અમે સાંભળ્યો હતો કે ‘જુવાન આબ્શાલોમને કોઈ હાથ અડકાડે નહિ.’
13 Otherwise I should have wrought falsehood against my own life: for there is no matter hid from the king, and thou thyself wouldest have set thyself against me.
૧૩એ હુકમની અવજ્ઞા કરીને જો મેં છાની રીતે આબ્શાલોમને મારી નાખ્યો હોત, તો તે બાબત રાજાની જાણમાં આવ્યા વગર રહેત નહિ તું પોતે જ મારી વિરુદ્ધ થઈ ગયો હોત. અને મારા પર આરોપ મૂકવામાં તું પહેલો હોત.”
14 Then said Joab, I may not tarry thus with thee. And he took three spears in his hand, and thrust them through the heart of Absalom, while he was yet alive in the midst of the oak.
૧૪પછી યોઆબે કહ્યું, “હું તારી રાહ જોઈશ નહિ. “તેથી યોઆબે ત્રણ ભાલા હાથમાં લઈને આબ્શાલોમ જે હજુ સુધી વૃક્ષ પર જીવતો લટકેલો હતો, તેના હૃદયમાં ભોંકી દીધાં.
15 And ten young men that bore Joab’s armour surrounded and smote Absalom, and slew him.
૧૫પછી યોઆબના દસ જુવાન માણસ શસ્ત્રવાહકોએ આબ્શાલોમને ચારેબાજુથી ઘેરી લઈને તેના પર હુમલો કરી તેને મારી નાખ્યો.
16 And Joab blew the trumpet, and the people returned from pursuing Israel: for Joab restrained the people.
૧૬પછી યોઆબે રણશિંગડું વગાડ્યું અને સૈન્ય ઇઝરાયલનો પીછો કરવાને બદલે પાછું વળ્યું. કેમ કે યોઆબે સૈન્યને પાછું બોલાવી લીધું હતું.
17 And they took Absalom, and cast him into a great pit in the forest, and laid a very great heap of stones upon him: and all Israel fled every one to his tent.
૧૭યોઆબના માણસોએ આબ્શાલોમને લઈને જંગલમાં એક મોટા ખાડામાં ફેંકી દીધો; તેઓએ આબ્શાલોમના મૃતદેહને મોટા પથ્થરના ઢગલા નીચે દફ્નાવ્યો, પછી બધા ઇઝરાયલીઓ પોતપોતાના ઘરે ચાલ્યા ગયા.
18 Now Absalom in his lifetime had taken and built for himself a pillar, which is in the king’s dale: for he said, I have no son to keep my name in remembrance: and he called the pillar after his own name: and it is called to this day, Absalom’s place.
૧૮આબ્શાલોમે, જયારે તે જીવતો હતો ત્યારે તેણે પોતાના માટે રાજાઓની ખીણમાં સ્તંભ બાંધ્યો હતો, કેમ કે તેણે કહ્યું હતું કે, “મારું નામ સદા રાખવા માટે મારે કોઈ દીકરો નથી.” તેથી તેના નામ પરથી તેણે તે સ્તંભનું નામ આબ્શાલોમ રાખ્યું હતું, આજે પણ તે આબ્શાલોમના સ્મૃર્તિસ્તંભ તરીકે ઓળખાય છે.
19 Then said Ahimaaz the son of Zadok, Let me now run, and inform the king, how the LORD hath avenged himself of his enemies.
૧૯ત્યાર પછી સાદોકના દીકરા અહિમાઆસે કહ્યું, “હવે મને દોડીને રાજા પાસે જઈને તેને ખબર આપવા દો, કે કેવી રીતે ઈશ્વરે તેને તેના શત્રુ આબ્શાલોમથી બચાવ્યો છે.”
20 And Joab said to him, Thou shalt not bear tidings this day, but thou shalt bear tidings another day: but this day thou shalt bear no tidings, because the king’s son is dead.
૨૦યોઆબે તેને જવાબ આપ્યો, “આજે તું ખબર લઈને જઈશ નહિ; પણ તું તે ખબર લઈને બીજા કોઈ દિવસે જજે. તું આજે ખબર આપવા જઈશ નહિ કારણ કે રાજાનો દીકરો મરણ પામ્યો છે.”
21 Then said Joab to Cushi, Go tell the king what thou hast seen. And Cushi bowed himself to Joab, and ran.
૨૧પછી યોઆબે કૂશીને કહ્યું, “તું જા, તેં જે જોયું છે તે રાજાને કહેજે.” કૂશી યોઆબને પ્રણામ કરીને રાજાને તે વાતની ખબર આપવાને ચાલી નીકળ્યો.
22 Then said Ahimaaz the son of Zadok yet again to Joab, But however, let me also, I pray thee, run after Cushi. And Joab said, Why wilt thou run, my son, seeing that thou hast no tidings ready?
૨૨પછી સાદોકના દીકરા અહિમાઆસે યોઆબને ફરીથી કહ્યું, કંઈપણ થાય પણ, કૃપા કરીને મને પણ કૂશીની પાછળ જઈને રાજાને મળવા જવા દે.” યોઆબે જવાબ આપ્યો, “મારા દીકરા, તારે શા માટે જવું છે? કેમ કે આ સમાચાર આપવાનો કશો તને બદલો મળવાનો નથી?”
23 But however, said he, let me run. And he said to him, Run. Then Ahimaaz ran by the way of the plain, and outran Cushi.
૨૩અહિમાઆસે કહ્યું, “ગમે તે થાય,” હું તો જવાનો જ. “તેથી યોઆબે તેને ઉત્તર આપ્યો, “ઠીક તો જા.” પછી અહિમાઆસ મેદાનના રસ્તે દોડ્યો અને કૂશીની આગળ નીકળી ગયો.
24 And David sat between the two gates: and the watchman went up to the roof over the gate to the wall, and lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold a man running alone.
૨૪હવે દાઉદ બે દરવાજાની વચ્ચે બેઠો હતો. ચોકીદારે કોટના દરવાજાના છત ઉપર ચઢીને આંખો ઊંચી કરીને જોયું. તેણે જોયું કે એક માણસ દોડતો આવી રહ્યો છે.
25 And the watchman called, and told the king. And the king said, If he is alone, there is tidings in his mouth. And he came apace, and drew near.
૨૫ચોકીદારે પોકારીને રાજાને કહ્યું. પછી રાજાએ કહ્યું, “જો તે એકલો હશે, તો તેની પાસે કોઈ સમાચાર હશે.” તે ઝડપથી દોડીને નગર પાસે આવ્યો.
26 And the watchman saw another man running: and the watchman called to the porter, and said, Behold another man running alone. And the king said, He also bringeth tidings.
૨૬પછી ચોકીદારે જોયું કે બીજો એક માણસ પણ દોડતો આવી રહ્યો છે. ચોકીદારે દરવાનને બોલાવીને કહ્યું, “જો ત્યાં બીજો કોઈ માણસ પણ આવે છે.” એટલે રાજાએ કહ્યું, “તે પણ સમાચાર લઈને આવતો હશે.”
27 And the watchman said, I think the running of the foremost is like the running of Ahimaaz the son of Zadok. And the king said, He is a good man, and cometh with good news.
૨૭ચોકીદારે કહ્યું, “મને લાગે છે કે, પ્રથમ માણસની દોડ સાદોકના દીકરા અહિમાઆસની જેવી લાગે છે.” રાજાએ કહ્યું, “તે સારો માણસ છે અને સારા સમાચાર લઈને આવે છે.”
28 And Ahimaaz called, and said to the king, All is well. And he fell down to the earth upon his face before the king, and said, Blessed be the LORD thy God, who hath delivered up the men that raised their hand against my lord the king.
૨૮અહિમાઆસે બૂમ પાડીને રાજાને કહ્યું, “બધું ઠીક છે.” અને તેણે રાજાની આગળ સાષ્ટાંગ દંડવત્ પ્રણામ કરીને કહ્યું, “તમારા પ્રભુ ઈશ્વરને ધન્ય હો, જેમણે મારા માલિક રાજા સામે હાથ ઉઠાવનાર માણસોને અમારા હાથમાં આપી દીધા છે.
29 And the king said, Is the young man Absalom safe? And Ahimaaz answered, When Joab sent the king’s servant, and me thy servant, I saw a great tumult, but I knew not what it was.
૨૯તેથી રાજાએ જવાબ આપ્યો, “જુવાન આબ્શાલોમ ઠીક તો છે ને?” અહિમાઆસે જવાબ આપ્યો, “યોઆબે રાજાના ચાકરને, એટલે મને તારા દાસને, તારી પાસે મોકલ્યો, ત્યારે મારા જોવામાં ઘણી મોટી ધાંધલધમાલ આવી હતી. પણ તે શું હતું તેની મને ખબર નથી.”
30 And the king said to him, Turn aside, and stand here. And he turned aside, and stood still.
૩૦પછી રાજાએ કહ્યું, “એક બાજુ ફરીને અહીં ઊભો રહે.” તેથી અહિમાઆસ ફરીને એક બાજુએ ઊભો રહ્યો.
31 And, behold, Cushi came; and Cushi said, Tidings, my lord the king: for the LORD hath avenged thee this day of all them that rose up against thee.
૩૧પછી તરત જ કૂશીએ આવીને કહ્યું, “મારા માલિક રાજા તારા માટે એક સારા સમાચાર છે, કેમ કે જેઓ તારી સામે ઊઠ્યા હતા તેઓ સર્વ પર ઈશ્વરે આજે વેર વાળ્યું છે.”
32 And the king said to Cushi, Is the young man Absalom safe? And Cushi answered, May the enemies of my lord the king, and all that rise against thee to do thee harm, be as that young man is.
૩૨પછી રાજાએ કૂશીને કહ્યું, “શું જુવાન આબ્શાલોમ તો ઠીક છે ને?” કૂશીએ જવાબ આપ્યો, “મારા માલિક, જે રાજાના શત્રુઓ, તને નુકસાન પહોંચાડવા તારી સામે ઊઠે છે તેમના હાલ તે જુવાન માણસ આબ્શાલોમના જેવા છે.”
33 And the king was much moved, and went up to the chamber over the gate, and wept: and as he went, thus he said, O my son Absalom, my son, my son Absalom! O that I had died for thee, O Absalom, my son, my son!
૩૩પછી રાજાને ઘણો જ આઘાત લાગ્યો, તે નગરના દરવાજા પરથી ચઢીને ઓરડીમાં ગયો અને રડવા લાગ્યો. જયારે તે અંદર ગયો ત્યારે ઉદાસ થઈને બોલ્યો, “મારા દીકરા આબ્શાલોમ, મારા દીકરા, મારા દીકરા આબ્શાલોમ તારા બદલે જો હું મરણ પામ્યો હોત તો કેવું સારું, આબ્શાલોમ, મારા દીકરા, મારા દીકરા!”
