2 Kings 6
1 And the sons of the prophets said to Elisha, Behold now, the place where we dwell with thee is too small for us.
૧પ્રબોધકોના દીકરાઓએ એલિશાને કહ્યું, “જો, જે જગ્યાએ અમે તારી સાથે રહીએ છે તે જગ્યા અમારા માટે ખૂબ સાંકડી છે.
2 Let us go, we pray thee, to Jordan, and take from there every man a beam, and let us make us a place there, where we may dwell. And he answered, Go ye.
૨કૃપા કરીને અમને યર્દન જવા દે, કે ત્યાંથી દરેક માણસ લાકડાં કાપી લાવીએ અને ત્યાં અમારે રહેવા માટે ઘર બાંધીએ.” એલિશાએ કહ્યું, “તમે જાઓ.”
3 And one said, Be content, I pray thee, and go with thy servants. And he answered, I will go.
૩તેઓમાંના એકે કહ્યું, “કૃપા કરી તારા ચાકરો સાથે આવ.” એલિશાએ કહ્યું, “હું આવીશ.”
4 So he went with them. And when they came to Jordan, they cut down wood.
૪તેથી તે તેમની સાથે ગયો. યર્દન પહોંચીને તેઓએ લાકડાં કાપવા માંડયાં.
5 But as one was felling a beam, the axe head fell into the water: and he cried, and said, Alas, master! for it was borrowed.
૫પણ એક જણ લાકડાં કાપતો હતો, તેવામાં તેની કુહાડી પાણીમાં પડી ગઈ; તેણે બૂમ પાડીને કહ્યું, “હે મારા ગુરુજી! એ કુહાડી તો હું માંગી લાવ્યો હતો.”
6 And the man of God said, Where fell it? And he showed him the place. And he cut down a stick, and cast it in there; and made the axe head float.
૬ઈશ્વરભક્ત એલિશાએ પૂછ્યું, “તે કયાં પડી છે?” એટલે તે માણસે એલિશાને જગ્યા બતાવી. પછી એલિશાએ એક લાકડું કાપીને પાણીમાં નાખ્યું. તેથી કુહાડી સપાટી પર આવીને તરવા લાગી.
7 Therefore said he, Take it up to thee. And he put out his hand, and took it.
૭એલિશાએ કહ્યું, “તે ઉઠાવી લે.” માટે પેલા માણસે હાથ લંબાવીને કુહાડી લઈ લીધી.
8 Then the king of Syria warred against Israel, and took counsel with his servants, saying, In such and such a place shall be my camp.
૮હવે અરામના રાજાએ ઇઝરાયલ સામે યુદ્ધ કર્યું. તેણે પોતાના ચાકરોની સલાહ લઈને કહ્યું, “મારી છાવણી અમુક જગ્યાએ બનાવવામાં આવશે.”
9 And the man of God sent to the king of Israel, saying, Beware that thou pass not such a place; for there the Syrians have come down.
૯પણ ઈશ્વરભક્ત એલિશાએ ઇઝરાયલના રાજાને સંદેશો મોકલીને કહ્યું, “સાવધ રહેજે, અમુક જગ્યાએ જતો ના, કારણ કે, અરામીઓ ત્યાં આવવાના છે.”
10 And the king of Israel sent to the place which the man of God told him and warned him of, and saved himself there, not once nor twice.
૧૦ઈશ્વરભક્તે જે જગ્યા વિષે ઇઝરાયલના રાજાને ચેતવણી આપી હતી તે જગ્યાએ માણસો મોક્લ્યા. આ ચેતવણીથી તે અનેક વાર બચી ગયો.
11 Therefore the heart of the king of Syria was greatly troubled for this thing; and he called his servants, and said to them, Will ye not show me which of us is for the king of Israel?
૧૧આ ચેતવણી વિષે અરામનો રાજા ખૂબ ગભરાયો અને તેણે પોતાના ચાકરોને કહ્યું, “આપણામાંથી ઇઝરાયલના રાજાના પક્ષનો કોણ છે? તે તમે મને નહિ જણાવો?”
12 And one of his servants said, None, my lord, O king: but Elisha, the prophet that is in Israel, telleth the king of Israel the words that thou speakest in thy bedchamber.
૧૨ત્યારે તેના એક ચાકરે કહ્યું, “મારા માલિક રાજા, એવું નહિ! પણ તમે તમારા શયનગૃહમાં જે વચનો બોલો છો તે ઇઝરાયલમાંનો પ્રબોધક એલિશા ઇઝરાયલના રાજાને કહી દે છે.”
13 And he said, Go and spy where he is, that I may send and bring him. And it was told him, saying, Behold, he is in Dothan.
૧૩રાજાએ કહ્યું, “જાઓ, અને જુઓ કે એલિશા કયાં છે, જેથી હું તેને માણસો મોકલીને પકડાવી લઉં.” તેને કહેવામાં આવ્યું કે, “જુઓ, તે દોથાનમાં છે.”
14 Therefore he sent there horses, and chariots, and a great host: and they came by night, and surrounded the city.
૧૪માટે રાજાએ દોથાનમાં ઘોડા, રથો અને મોટું સૈન્ય મોકલ્યું. તેઓએ રાત્રે આવીને નગરને ઘેરી લીધું.
15 And when the servant of the man of God had risen early, and gone forth, behold, an host surrounded the city both with horses and chariots. And his servant said to him, Alas, my master! how shall we do?
૧૫જ્યારે ઈશ્વરભક્ત એલિશાનો ચાકર વહેલો ઊઠીને બહાર ગયો, તો જુઓ, તેણે એક મોટા સૈન્યને રથદળ અને ઘોડેસવારો સહિત નગરને ઘેરી લીધેલું જોયું. તેના ચાકરે તેને કહ્યું, “અરેરે! મારા માલિક હવે આપણે શું કરીશું?”
16 And he answered, Fear not: for they that are with us are more than they that are with them.
૧૬એલિશાએ કહ્યું, “બીશ નહિ, કેમ કે, જેઓ આપણી સાથે છે તેઓ, તેમની સાથે જેઓ છે તેઓના કરતાં મહાન છે.”
17 And Elisha prayed, and said, LORD, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire around Elisha.
૧૭પછી એલિશાએ પ્રાર્થના કરી કે, “હે યહોવાહ, કૃપા કરી તેની આંખો ઉઘાડ કે તે જુએ.” ત્યારે યહોવાહે તે ચાકરની આંખો ઉઘાડી અને તેણે જોયું. તો જુઓ! એલિશાની આસપાસ અગ્નિરથોથી અને ઘોડાઓથી પર્વત ભરાઈ ગયો હતો.
18 And when they came down to him, Elisha prayed to the LORD, and said, Smite this people, I pray thee, with blindness. And he smote them with blindness according to the word of Elisha.
૧૮જ્યારે અરામીઓ એલિશાની પાસે આવ્યા, ત્યારે એલિશાએ યહોવાહને પ્રાર્થના કરી, “હે યહોવાહ, આ લોકોને અંધ બનાવી દો.” અને યહોવાહે એલિશાના કહ્યા પ્રમાણે તેઓને અંધ કરી દીધાં.
19 And Elisha said to them, This is not the way, neither is this the city: follow me, and I will bring you to the man whom ye seek. But he led them to Samaria.
૧૯પછી એલિશાએ અરામીઓને કહ્યું, “તે માર્ગ આ નથી, તે નગર પણ આ નથી. પણ મારી પાછળ આવો અને જે માણસને તમે શોધો છો તેની પાસે હું તમને લઈ જઈશ.” પછી તે તેઓને સમરુન લઈ ગયો.
20 And it came to pass, when they had come into Samaria, that Elisha said, LORD, open the eyes of these men, that they may see. And the LORD opened their eyes, and they saw; and, behold, they were in the midst of Samaria.
૨૦જ્યારે તેઓ સમરુન આવી પહોંચ્યા ત્યારે એમ થયું કે એલિશાએ કહ્યું, “હે યહોવાહ, આ માણસોની આંખો ઉઘાડો કે તેઓ જુએ.” પછી યહોવાહે તેઓની આંખો ઉઘાડી અને તેઓએ જોયું, તો જુઓ, તેઓ સમરુન શહેરના મધ્ય ભાગમાં હતા.
21 And the king of Israel said to Elisha, when he saw them, My father, shall I smite them? shall I smite them?
૨૧ઇઝરાયલના રાજાએ તેઓને જોયા ત્યારે તેણે એલિશાને કહ્યું, “મારા પિતાજી, શું હું તેઓને મારું? તેઓને મારું?”
22 And he answered, Thou shalt not smite them: wouldest thou smite those whom thou hast taken captive with thy sword and with thy bow? set bread and water before them, that they may eat and drink, and go to their master.
૨૨એલિશાએ જવાબ આપ્યો, “તારે તેમને મારવા નહિ. જેઓને તેં તારી તલવારથી અને ધનુષથી કબજે કર્યાં નથી, તેઓને શું તું મારશે? તેઓની આગળ રોટલી અને પાણી મૂક કે, તેઓ ખાઈપીને પાછા પોતાના માલિક પાસે જાય.”
23 And he prepared great provision for them: and when they had eaten and drunk, he sent them away, and they went to their master. So the bands of Syria came no more into the land of Israel.
૨૩માટે રાજાએ તેઓને સારુ પુષ્કળ ખોરાક તૈયાર કરાવ્યો. તેઓ ખાઈ પી રહ્યા પછી તેઓને વિદાય કર્યાં અને તેઓ પોતાના માલિક પાસે પાછા ગયા. ત્યાર પછી અરામનાં સૈન્યો ઘણાં લાંબા સમય સુધી ઇઝરાયલમાં પાછાં આવ્યાં નહિ.
24 And it came to pass after this, that Benhadad king of Syria gathered all his army, and went up, and besieged Samaria.
૨૪ત્યાર પછી એવું બન્યું કે, અરામના રાજા બેન-હદાદે પોતાનું સમગ્ર સૈન્ય એકત્ર કર્યું અને સમરુનને ઘેરી લીધું.
25 And there was a great famine in Samaria: and, behold, they besieged it, until a donkey’s head was sold for eighty pieces of silver, and the fourth part of a cab of dove’s dung for five pieces of silver.
૨૫સમરુનમાં ભારે દુકાળ પડ્યો. અને જુઓ, ગધેડાનું માથું ચાંદીના એંશી સિક્કામાં વેચાતું હતું. કબૂતરની પા માપ વિષ્ટા ચાંદીના પાંચ સિક્કામાં વેચાતી હતી.
26 And as the king of Israel was passing by upon the wall, there cried a woman to him, saying, Help, my lord, O king.
૨૬ઇઝરાયલનો રાજા નગરના કોટ ઉપરથી પસાર થતો હતો, ત્યારે એક સ્ત્રીએ હાંક મારીને તેને કહ્યું, “હે મારા માલિક રાજા, મદદ કરો.”
27 And he said, If the LORD doth not help thee, how shall I help thee? out of the barnfloor, or out of the winepress?
૨૭તેણે કહ્યું, “જો યહોવાહ તને મદદ ન કરે, તો હું તને કયાંથી મદદ કરું? ખળીમાંથી કે દ્રાક્ષકુંડમાંથી?”
28 And the king said to her, What aileth thee? And she answered, This woman said to me, Give thy son, that we may eat him to day, and we will eat my son to morrow.
૨૮પછી રાજાએ તેને પૂછ્યું, “તને શું દુઃખ છે?” પેલી સ્ત્રીએ કહ્યું, “આ સ્ત્રીએ મને એમ કહ્યું હતું કે, ‘તારો દીકરો આપ કે, આજે આપણે તેને ખાઈએ અને મારા દીકરાને આવતી કાલે ખાઈશું.’
29 So we boiled my son, and ate him: and I said to her on the next day, Give thy son, that we may eat him: and she hath hid her son.
૨૯માટે અમે મારા દીકરાને રાંધીને ખાધો, બીજે દિવસે મેં જયારે તેને કહ્યું, “તારો દીકરો આપ કે, આપણે તેને ખાઈએ. પણ તેણે તેના દીકરાને સંતાડી દીધો.”
30 And it came to pass, when the king heard the words of the woman, that he tore his clothes; and he passed by upon the wall, and the people looked, and, behold, he had sackcloth beneath upon his flesh.
૩૦જ્યારે રાજાએ આ સ્ત્રીના શબ્દો સાંભળ્યા, ત્યારે તેણે પોતાનાં વસ્ત્રો ફાડ્યાં. હવે રાજા નગરના કોટ પરથી જતો હતો તો લોકોએ જોયું, કે રાજાએ તેના અંગ પર શોકનાં વસ્ત્રો પહેર્યાં હતાં.
31 Then he said, God do so and more also to me, if the head of Elisha the son of Shaphat shall stand on him this day.
૩૧પછી તેણે કહ્યું, “જો આજે શાફાટના દીકરા એલિશાનું માથું તેના ધડ પર રહેવા દઉં, તો યહોવાહ મને એવું અને એ કરતાં વધારે વિતાડો.”
32 But Elisha sat in his house, and the elders sat with him; and the king sent a man from before him: but before the messenger came to him, he said to the elders, See ye how this son of a murderer hath sent to take away my head? look, when the messenger cometh, shut the door, and hold him fast at the door: is not the sound of his master’s feet behind him?
૩૨એલિશા પોતાના ઘરમાં બેઠો હતો અને તેની સાથે વડીલો બેઠા હતા. રાજાએ પોતાની પાસેથી તેની આગળ એક માણસ મોકલ્યો, પણ તે સંદેશાવાહક આવી પહોંચ્યો તે પહેલાં જ એલિશાએ વડીલોને કહ્યું હતું કે, “જો, એ ખૂનીના દીકરાએ મારું માથું કાપી નાખવાને માણસ મોકલ્યો છે. જુઓ જ્યારે સંદેશાવાહક આવે ત્યારે તેને બહાર ઊભો રાખીને બારણું બંધ કરી દેજો. શું તેના માલિકના પગનો અવાજ તેની પાછળ નથી સંભળાતો?’
33 And while he yet talked with them, behold, the messenger came down to him: and he said, Behold, this evil is from the LORD; why should I wait for the LORD any longer?
૩૩તે હજી તો તેમની વાત કરતો હતો, એટલામાં જુઓ, સંદેશાવાહક તેની પાસે આવી પહોંચ્યો. તેણે કહ્યું, “જુઓ, આ વિપત્તિ યહોવાહ તરફથી આવી છે. તો શા માટે હું હવે પછી યહોવાહની રાહ જોઉં?”
