2 Chronicles 33

1 Manasseh was twelve years old when he began to reign, and he reigned fifty and five years in Jerusalem:

Manassé avait douze ans à son avènement et il régna cinquante-cinq ans à Jérusalem.

2 But did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, like the abominations of the heathen, whom the LORD had cast out before the children of Israel.

Et il fit ce qui est mal aux yeux de l'Éternel, imitant les abominations des nations que l'Éternel avait chassées devant les enfants d'Israël.

3 For he built again the high places which Hezekiah his father had broken down, and he reared up altars for Baalim, and made groves, and worshipped all the host of heaven, and served them.

Et il releva les tertres qu'Ézéchias, son père, avait renversés, et érigea des autels aux Baals, et fit des Astartés et adora toute l'armée des Cieux et lui rendit un culte.

4 Also he built altars in the house of the LORD, of which the LORD had said, In Jerusalem shall my name be for ever.

Et il bâtit des autels dans le Temple de l'Éternel, dont l'Éternel avait dit: A Jérusalem sera mon Nom éternellement.

5 And he built altars for all the host of heaven in the two courts of the house of the LORD.

Et il bâtit des autels a toute l'armée des Cieux dans les deux parvis du Temple de l'Éternel.

6 And he caused his children to pass through the fire in the valley of the son of Hinnom: also he observed times, and used enchantments, and used witchcraft, and dealt with a medium, and with wizards: he wrought much evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger.

Et il fit passer ses fils par le feu dans la Vallée des fils de Hinnom, et pratiqua la magie, les augures et les évocations, et institua des évocateurs et des pronostiqueurs et il fit le mal à l'extrême aux yeux de l'Éternel, à l'effet de le provoquer.

7 And he set a carved image, the idol which he had made, in the house of God, of which God had said to David and to Solomon his son, In this house, and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen before all the tribes of Israel, will I put my name for ever:

Et il plaça le simulacre sculpté qu'il avait fait, dans le Temple de Dieu, dont Dieu avait dit à David et à Salomon, son fils: Dans ce Temple-ci, et à Jérusalem que j'ai choisie sur toutes les Tribus d'Israël, je mettrai Mon Nom pour l'éternité.

8 Neither will I any more remove the foot of Israel from the land which I have appointed for your fathers; provided they will take heed to do all that I have commanded them, according to the whole law and the statutes and the ordinances by the hand of Moses.

Et je ne laisserai plus le pied d'Israël quitter le sol que j'ai assuré à vos pères, pourvu seulement qu'ils veillent à pratiquer tout ce que par l'organe de Moïse je leur ai prescrit, toute la Loi, et les statuts et les arrêts.

9 So Manasseh made Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to err, and to do worse than the heathen, whom the LORD had destroyed before the children of Israel.

Mais Manassé égara Juda et les habitants de Jérusalem au point qu'ils firent pis que les nations que l'Éternel avait exterminées devant les enfants d'Israël.

10 And the LORD spoke to Manasseh, and to his people: but they would not hearken.

Et l'Éternel parla à Manassé et à son peuple, mais ils n'y prirent pas garde.

11 Therefore the LORD brought upon them the captains of the army of the king of Assyria, who took Manasseh in chains, and bound him with fetters, and carried him to Babylon.

Alors l'Éternel les fit envahir par les généraux d'armée du roi d'Assyrie, qui avec des ceps firent Manassé prisonnier et le lièrent avec des chaînes et le menèrent à Babel.

12 And when he was in affliction, he besought the LORD his God, and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers,

Et dans la gêne où il était, il chercha à fléchir l'Éternel, son Dieu, et s'humilia profondément devant le Dieu de ses pères,

13 And prayed to him: and he was entreated by him, and heard his supplication, and brought him again to Jerusalem into his kingdom. Then Manasseh knew that the LORD he is God.

et lui adressa sa prière, et Dieu se laissa fléchir et exauça sa prière et le fit revenir à Jérusalem dans son royaume, et Manassé reconnut que l'Éternel est Dieu.

14 Now after this he built a wall outside the city of David, on the west side of Gihon, in the valley, even to the entrance at the fish gate, and surrounded Ophel, and raised it up a very great height, and put captains of war in all the fortified cities of Judah.

Et ensuite il bâtit un mur extérieur à la Cité de David, à l'occident de Gihon dans le ravin, et à l'avenue de la porte des Poissons, et lui fit contourner Ophel, et l'éleva très haut, et il plaça des commandants militaires dans toutes les places fortes de Juda.

15 And he took away the foreign gods, and the idol out of the house of the LORD, and all the altars that he had built in the mount of the house of the LORD, and in Jerusalem, and cast them out of the city.

Et il fit disparaître les dieux de l'étranger et le simulacre, du Temple de l'Éternel, et tous les autels qu'il avait bâtis sur la montagne du Temple de l'Éternel et à Jérusalem, et les jeta en dehors de la ville.

16 And he repaired the altar of the LORD, and sacrificed on it peace offerings and thank offerings, and commanded Judah to serve the LORD God of Israel.

Et il releva l'autel de l'Éternel et y offrit des sacrifices pacifiques et d'actions de grâces et enjoignit à Juda de servir l'Éternel, Dieu d'Israël.

17 Nevertheless the people sacrificed still in the high places, yet to the LORD their God only.

Cependant le peuple sacrifiait encore sur les tertres, mais seulement à l'Éternel, leur Dieu.

18 Now the rest of the acts of Manasseh, and his prayer to his God, and the words of the seers that spoke to him in the name of the LORD God of Israel, behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Israel.

Le reste des actes de Manassé et sa prière à son Dieu, et les discours des Voyants qui lui parlèrent au nom de l'Éternel, Dieu d'Israël, sont d'ailleurs consignés dans les histoires des rois d'Israël;

19 His prayer also, and how God was entreated by him, and all his sin, and his trespass, and the places in which he built high places, and set up groves and graven images, before he was humbled: behold, they are written among the sayings of the seers.

et sa prière et son exaucement et tout son péché et sa rébellion et les lieux où il avait construit des tertres et érigé des Astartés et des idoles, avant de s'être humilié, tout cela se trouve consigné dans les Histoires de Hozaï.

20 So Manasseh slept with his fathers, and they buried him in his own house: and Amon his son reigned in his stead.

Et Manassé reposa à côté de ses pères et reçut la sépulture dans sa demeure, et Amon, son fils, devint roi en sa place.

21 Amon was two and twenty years old when he began to reign, and reigned two years in Jerusalem.

Amon avait vingt-deux ans à son avènement, et il régna deux ans à Jérusalem.

22 But he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, as did Manasseh his father: for Amon sacrificed to all the carved images which Manasseh his father had made, and served them;

Et il fit ce qui est mal aux yeux de l'Éternel comme avait fait Manassé, son père, et Amon offrit des sacrifices à toutes les idoles qu'avait faites Manassé, son père, et leur rendit un culte.

23 And humbled not himself before the LORD, as Manasseh his father had humbled himself; but Amon trespassed more and more.

Mais il ne s'humilia pas devant l'Éternel, comme s'était humilié Manassé, son père; car lui, Amon, se rendit beaucoup plus coupable.

24 And his servants conspired against him, and slew him in his own house.

Et ses serviteurs conjurèrent contre lui et le tuèrent dans son palais.

25 But the people of the land slew all them that had conspired against king Amon; and the people of the land made Josiah his son king in his stead.

Cependant le peuple du pays fit main basse sur tous ceux qui avaient conjuré contre le roi Amon, et établit Josias, son fils, roi en sa place.
