2 Chronicles 32
1 After these things, and their establishment, Sennacherib king of Assyria came, and entered into Judah, and encamped against the fortified cities, and thought to win them for himself.
E dolgok és igazság után eljött Szanchérib, Assúr királya, behatolt Jehúdába s táborozott az erősített városok ellen s azt mondta, hogy magának elfoglalja.
2 And when Hezekiah saw that Sennacherib had come, and that he purposed to fight against Jerusalem,
Midőn Jechizkijáhú látta, hogy eljött Szanchérib s arca a Jeruzsálem ellen való harcra irányul,
3 He took counsel with his princes and his mighty men to stop the waters of the fountains which were outside the city: and they helped him.
akkor tanácskozott nagyjaival s vitézeivel, hogy eltömik a források vizeit, amelyek a városon kívül voltak, s ők segítették őt.
4 So there was gathered many people together, who stopped all the fountains, and the brook that ran through the midst of the land, saying, Why should the kings of Assyria come, and find much water?
És gyülekezett sok nép s eltömték mind a forrásokat s a patakot, amely az ország közepette folyik, mondván: miért jöjjenek Assúr királyai s találjanak sok vizet?
5 Also he strengthened himself, and built up all the wall that was broken, and raised it up to the towers, and another wall without, and repaired Millo in the city of David, and made weapons and shields in abundance.
És erőlködött s megépítette az egész áttört falat s magasabbra építette a tornyokat a kinn egy másik falat, s megerősítette a Millót Dávid városában, s készített fegyvereket bőven és pajzsokat.
6 And he set captains of war over the people, and gathered them together to him in the street of the gate of the city, and encouraged them, saying,
S helyezett hadi tiszteket a nép fölé, s összegyűjtötte őket magához a város kapujának terére a szívükre beszélt, mondván:
7 Be strong and courageous, be not afraid nor dismayed for the king of Assyria, nor for all the multitude that is with him: for there are more with us than with him:
Legyetek erősek és bátrak, ne féljetek s ne rettegjetek Assúr királya előtt s az egész vele levő tömeg előtt, mert velünk több van, mint ővele.
8 With him is an arm of flesh; but with us is the LORD our God to help us, and to fight our battles. And the people rested themselves upon the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.
Vele van halandónak karja, de velünk van az Örökkévaló, ami Istenünk hogy megsegítsen minket s hogy viselje harcainkat. S a nép támaszkodott Jechizkijáhúnak, Jehúda királyának szavaira.
9 After this Sennacherib king of Assyria sent his servants to Jerusalem, (but he himself laid siege against Lachish, and all his power with him, ) to Hezekiah king of Judah, and to all Judah that were at Jerusalem, saying,
Ezután küldötte Szanchéríb, Assúr királya az ő szolgáit Jeruzsálembe – ő pedig és egész hatalma ővele Lákhis előtt volt – Jechizkijáhúhoz, Jehúda királyához s egész Jehúdához, mely Jeruzsálemben volt, mondván:
10 Thus saith Sennacherib king of Assyria, On what do ye trust, that ye abide in the siege in Jerusalem?
Így szól Szanchérib, Assúr királya: miben bíztok, hogy Jeruzsálemben maradtok az ostrom alatt?
11 Doth not Hezekiah persuade you to give over yourselves to die by famine and by thirst, saying, The LORD our God shall deliver us out of the hand of the king of Assyria?
Nemde Jechizkijáhú csábítgat titeket, adván benneteket a halálnak éhség s szomjúság által, mondván: az Örökkévaló a mi Istenünk, meg fog minket menteni Assúr királya kezéből?
12 Hath not the same Hezekiah taken away his high places and his altars, and commanded Judah and Jerusalem, saying, Ye shall worship before one altar, and burn incense upon it?
Nemde ő, Jechizkijáhú, eltávolította az ő magaslatait s oltárait és szólt Jehúdának és Jeruzsálemnek, mondván: Egy oltár előtt boruljatok le s azon füstölögtessetek?
13 Know ye not what I and my fathers have done to all the people of other lands? were the gods of the nations of those lands any ways able to deliver their lands out of my hand?
Vajon nem tudjátok-e, mit tettem én meg őseim mind az országok népeinek; vajon bírták-e az országok nemzeteinek istenei országukat megmenteni kezemből?
14 Who was there among all the gods of those nations that my fathers utterly destroyed, that could deliver his people out of my hand, that your God should be able to deliver you out of my hand?
Ki az, mind eme nemzetek istenei közül, amelyeket az én őseim kiirtottak, aki bírta megmenteni népét az én kezemből, hogy a ti istentek bírna megmenteni titeket a kezemből?
15 Now therefore let not Hezekiah deceive you, nor persuade you in this manner, neither yet believe him: for no god of any nation or kingdom hath been able to deliver his people out of my hand, and out of the hand of my fathers: how much less shall your God deliver you out of my hand?
S most ne ámítson titeket Chizkijáhú s ne csábítgasson titeket ilyeténképpen s ne higgyetek neki, mert semmiféle nemzetnek és királyságnak bármely istene nem bírta megmenteni népét kezemből és őseim kezéből; hát még hogy a ti istenetek nem fog titeket megmenteni kezemből.
16 And his servants spoke yet more against the LORD God, and against his servant Hezekiah.
És még beszéltek szolgái az Örökkévaló az Isten ellen és szolgája Jechizkijáhú ellen;
17 He wrote also letters to rail at the LORD God of Israel, and to speak against him, saying, As the gods of the nations of other lands have not delivered their people out of my hand, so shall not the God of Hezekiah deliver his people out of my hand.
leveleket is írt, hogy káromolja az Örökkévalót, Izrael Istenét s hogy szóljon róla, mondván: amilyenek az országok nemzeteinek istenei, amelyek nem mentették meg népüket kezemből, úgy nem fogja megmenteni népét Jechizkijáhú istene a kezemből.
18 Then they cried with a loud voice in the Jews’ speech to the people of Jerusalem that were on the wall, to make them afraid, and to trouble them; that they might take the city.
És kiáltottak fennhangon zsidóul Jeruzsálem népéhez, amely a falon volt, hogy őket megijesszék s megrémítsék, azért, hogy bevehessék a várost.
19 And they spoke against the God of Jerusalem, as against the gods of the people of the earth, the work of the hands of man.
És beszéltek Jeruzsálem Istenéről mint az ország népeinek isteneiről, az ember kezeinek művéről.
20 And for this cause Hezekiah the king, and the prophet Isaiah the son of Amoz, prayed and cried to heaven.
És imádkozott Jechizkijáhú király és Jesajáhú, Ámóc fia, a próféta, e miatt, s kiáltottak az egek felé.
21 And the LORD sent an angel, who cut off all the mighty men of valour, and the leaders and captains in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned with shame of face to his own land. And when he had come into the house of his god, they that came forth from his own bowels slew him there with the sword.
És küldött az Örökkévaló angyalt, és megsemmisített minden derék vitézt és tisztet s vezért Assúr királya táborában; s visszatért arca szégyenében országába, s midőn bement istenének házába, az ő istenének származottjai elejtették őt ott karddal.
22 Thus the LORD saved Hezekiah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem from the hand of Sennacherib the king of Assyria, and from the hand of all others, and guided them on every side.
Így megsegítette az Örökkévaló Jechizkijáhút meg Jeruzsálem lakóit Szancheribnak, Assúr királyának kezéből s mindenkinek kezéből s vezérelte őket a körüllevők ellenében.
23 And many brought gifts to the LORD to Jerusalem, and presents to Hezekiah king of Judah: so that from then on he was magnified in the sight of all nations.
És sokan hoztak ajándékot az Örökkévalónak Jeruzsálembe s drágaságokat Jechizkijáhúnak, Jehúda királyának, és felülemelkedett mind a nemzetek szemeiben ennek utána.
24 In those days Hezekiah was sick and near to death, and he prayed to the LORD: and he spoke to him, and he gave him a sign.
Ama napokban halálosan megbetegedett Jechizkijáhú s imádkozott az Örökkévalóhoz, s ez szólt hozzá s csodajelt adott neki.
25 But Hezekiah rendered not again according to the benefit done to him; for his heart was lifted up: therefore there was wrath upon him, and upon Judah and Jerusalem.
De nem a vele történt jótétemény szerint viszonozott Jechizkijáhú, hanem fennhéjázott szíve és lett harag ellene és Jehúda meg Jeruzsálem ellen.
26 However Hezekiah humbled himself for the pride of his heart, both he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the wrath of the LORD came not upon them in the days of Hezekiah.
De megalázkodott Jechizkijáhú szíve fennhéjázásában, ő meg Jeruzsálem lakói, s nem jött rájuk az Örökkévaló haragja Jechizkijáhú napjaiban.
27 And Hezekiah had very great riches and honour: and he made himself treasuries for silver, and for gold, and for precious stones, and for spices, and for shields, and for all manner of pleasant jewels;
És volt Jechizkijáhúnak gazdagsága s tisztelete felette sok, s kincstárakat készített magának az ezüst, az arany, a drágakő, meg illatszerek és pajzsok s mindenféle drága edény számára;
28 Storehouses also for the increase of grain, and wine, and oil; and stalls for all manner of beasts, and sheepfolds for flocks.
s éléstárakat gabona meg must és olaj termése számára és jászlakat mindennemű állat számára és szállásokat a nyájak számára.
29 Moreover he provided for himself cities, and possessions of flocks and herds in abundance: for God had given him substance in great abundance.
És városokat szerzett magának és juhokat és szarvasmarhát sokat, mert adott neki Isten felette nagy vagyont.
30 This same Hezekiah also stopped the upper watercourse of Gihon, and brought it straight down to the west side of the city of David. And Hezekiah prospered in all his works.
S ugyancsak Jechizkijáhú eltömte a Gíchón vize felső eredőjét és terelte lefelé Dávid városának nyugati részébe; és szerencsés volt Jechizkijáhú minden tettében.
31 But in the business of the ambassadors of the princes of Babylon, who sent to him to enquire of the wonder that was done in the land, God left him, to try him, that he might know all that was in his heart.
Épp így Bábel nagyjainak követeivel, akik hozzáküldtek, hogy kérdezzék a csodajelet, mely az országban történt, elhagyta őt az Isten, csakhogy kipróbálja őt, hogy megtudja mindazt, ami szívében van.
32 Now the rest of the acts of Hezekiah, and his goodness, behold, they are written in the vision of Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, and in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.
És Jechizkijáhú egyéb dolgai s kegyes tettei, íme azok meg vannak írva Jesájáhú profétának, Amóc fiának látomásában, Jehúda s Izrael királyainak könyvében.
33 And Hezekiah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the chief of the sepulchres of the sons of David: and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem did him honour at his death. And Manasseh his son reigned in his stead.
És feküdt Jechizkijáhú az ősei mellé s eltemették őt Dávid fiai sírjainak hágóján; s tisztességet tettek neki halálakor egész Jehúda s Jeruzsálem lakói. S király lett helyette fia Menasse.
