2 Chronicles 32
1 After these things, and their establishment, Sennacherib king of Assyria came, and entered into Judah, and encamped against the fortified cities, and thought to win them for himself.
| אחרי הדברים והאמת האלה בא סנחריב מלך אשור ויבא ביהודה ויחן על הערים הבצרות ויאמר לבקעם אליו׃ |
2 And when Hezekiah saw that Sennacherib had come, and that he purposed to fight against Jerusalem,
| וירא יחזקיהו כי בא סנחריב ופניו למלחמה על ירושלם׃ |
3 He took counsel with his princes and his mighty men to stop the waters of the fountains which were outside the city: and they helped him.
| ויועץ עם שריו וגבריו לסתום את מימי העינות אשר מחוץ לעיר ויעזרוהו׃ |
4 So there was gathered many people together, who stopped all the fountains, and the brook that ran through the midst of the land, saying, Why should the kings of Assyria come, and find much water?
| ויקבצו עם רב ויסתמו את כל המעינות ואת הנחל השוטף בתוך הארץ לאמר למה יבואו מלכי אשור ומצאו מים רבים׃ |
5 Also he strengthened himself, and built up all the wall that was broken, and raised it up to the towers, and another wall without, and repaired Millo in the city of David, and made weapons and shields in abundance.
| ויתחזק ויבן את כל החומה הפרוצה ויעל על המגדלות ולחוצה החומה אחרת ויחזק את המלוא עיר דויד ויעש שלח לרב ומגנים׃ |
6 And he set captains of war over the people, and gathered them together to him in the street of the gate of the city, and encouraged them, saying,
| ויתן שרי מלחמות על העם ויקבצם אליו אל רחוב שער העיר וידבר על לבבם לאמר׃ |
7 Be strong and courageous, be not afraid nor dismayed for the king of Assyria, nor for all the multitude that is with him: for there are more with us than with him:
| חזקו ואמצו אל תיראו ואל תחתו מפני מלך אשור ומלפני כל ההמון אשר עמו כי עמנו רב מעמו׃ |
8 With him is an arm of flesh; but with us is the LORD our God to help us, and to fight our battles. And the people rested themselves upon the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.
| עמו זרוע בשר ועמנו יהוה אלהינו לעזרנו ולהלחם מלחמתנו ויסמכו העם על דברי יחזקיהו מלך יהודה׃ |
9 After this Sennacherib king of Assyria sent his servants to Jerusalem, (but he himself laid siege against Lachish, and all his power with him, ) to Hezekiah king of Judah, and to all Judah that were at Jerusalem, saying,
| אחר זה שלח סנחריב מלך אשור עבדיו ירושלימה והוא על לכיש וכל ממשלתו עמו על יחזקיהו מלך יהודה ועל כל יהודה אשר בירושלם לאמר׃ |
10 Thus saith Sennacherib king of Assyria, On what do ye trust, that ye abide in the siege in Jerusalem?
| כה אמר סנחריב מלך אשור על מה אתם בטחים וישבים במצור בירושלם׃ |
11 Doth not Hezekiah persuade you to give over yourselves to die by famine and by thirst, saying, The LORD our God shall deliver us out of the hand of the king of Assyria?
| הלא יחזקיהו מסית אתכם לתת אתכם למות ברעב ובצמא לאמר יהוה אלהינו יצילנו מכף מלך אשור׃ |
12 Hath not the same Hezekiah taken away his high places and his altars, and commanded Judah and Jerusalem, saying, Ye shall worship before one altar, and burn incense upon it?
| הלא הוא יחזקיהו הסיר את במתיו ואת מזבחתיו ויאמר ליהודה ולירושלם לאמר לפני מזבח אחד תשתחוו ועליו תקטירו׃ |
13 Know ye not what I and my fathers have done to all the people of other lands? were the gods of the nations of those lands any ways able to deliver their lands out of my hand?
| הלא תדעו מה עשיתי אני ואבותי לכל עמי הארצות היכול יכלו אלהי גוי הארצות להציל את ארצם מידי׃ |
14 Who was there among all the gods of those nations that my fathers utterly destroyed, that could deliver his people out of my hand, that your God should be able to deliver you out of my hand?
| מי בכל אלהי הגוים האלה אשר החרימו אבותי אשר יכול להציל את עמו מידי כי יוכל אלהיכם להציל אתכם מידי׃ |
15 Now therefore let not Hezekiah deceive you, nor persuade you in this manner, neither yet believe him: for no god of any nation or kingdom hath been able to deliver his people out of my hand, and out of the hand of my fathers: how much less shall your God deliver you out of my hand?
| ועתה אל ישיא אתכם חזקיהו ואל יסית אתכם כזאת ואל תאמינו לו כי לא יוכל כל אלוה כל גוי וממלכה להציל עמו מידי ומיד אבותי אף כי אלהיכם לא יצילו אתכם מידי׃ |
16 And his servants spoke yet more against the LORD God, and against his servant Hezekiah.
| ועוד דברו עבדיו על יהוה האלהים ועל יחזקיהו עבדו׃ |
17 He wrote also letters to rail at the LORD God of Israel, and to speak against him, saying, As the gods of the nations of other lands have not delivered their people out of my hand, so shall not the God of Hezekiah deliver his people out of my hand.
| וספרים כתב לחרף ליהוה אלהי ישראל ולאמר עליו לאמר כאלהי גוי הארצות אשר לא הצילו עמם מידי כן לא יציל אלהי יחזקיהו עמו מידי׃ |
18 Then they cried with a loud voice in the Jews’ speech to the people of Jerusalem that were on the wall, to make them afraid, and to trouble them; that they might take the city.
| ויקראו בקול גדול יהודית על עם ירושלם אשר על החומה ליראם ולבהלם למען ילכדו את העיר׃ |
19 And they spoke against the God of Jerusalem, as against the gods of the people of the earth, the work of the hands of man.
| וידברו אל אלהי ירושלם כעל אלהי עמי הארץ מעשה ידי האדם׃ |
20 And for this cause Hezekiah the king, and the prophet Isaiah the son of Amoz, prayed and cried to heaven.
| ויתפלל יחזקיהו המלך וישעיהו בן אמוץ הנביא על זאת ויזעקו השמים׃ |
21 And the LORD sent an angel, who cut off all the mighty men of valour, and the leaders and captains in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned with shame of face to his own land. And when he had come into the house of his god, they that came forth from his own bowels slew him there with the sword.
| וישלח יהוה מלאך ויכחד כל גבור חיל ונגיד ושר במחנה מלך אשור וישב בבשת פנים לארצו ויבא בית אלהיו ומיציאו מעיו שם הפילהו בחרב׃ |
22 Thus the LORD saved Hezekiah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem from the hand of Sennacherib the king of Assyria, and from the hand of all others, and guided them on every side.
| ויושע יהוה את יחזקיהו ואת ישבי ירושלם מיד סנחריב מלך אשור ומיד כל וינהלם מסביב׃ |
23 And many brought gifts to the LORD to Jerusalem, and presents to Hezekiah king of Judah: so that from then on he was magnified in the sight of all nations.
| ורבים מביאים מנחה ליהוה לירושלם ומגדנות ליחזקיהו מלך יהודה וינשא לעיני כל הגוים מאחרי כן׃ |
24 In those days Hezekiah was sick and near to death, and he prayed to the LORD: and he spoke to him, and he gave him a sign.
| בימים ההם חלה יחזקיהו עד למות ויתפלל אל יהוה ויאמר לו ומופת נתן לו׃ |
25 But Hezekiah rendered not again according to the benefit done to him; for his heart was lifted up: therefore there was wrath upon him, and upon Judah and Jerusalem.
| ולא כגמל עליו השיב יחזקיהו כי גבה לבו ויהי עליו קצף ועל יהודה וירושלם׃ |
26 However Hezekiah humbled himself for the pride of his heart, both he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the wrath of the LORD came not upon them in the days of Hezekiah.
| ויכנע יחזקיהו בגבה לבו הוא וישבי ירושלם ולא בא עליהם קצף יהוה בימי יחזקיהו׃ |
27 And Hezekiah had very great riches and honour: and he made himself treasuries for silver, and for gold, and for precious stones, and for spices, and for shields, and for all manner of pleasant jewels;
| ויהי ליחזקיהו עשר וכבוד הרבה מאד ואצרות עשה לו לכסף ולזהב ולאבן יקרה ולבשמים ולמגנים ולכל כלי חמדה׃ |
28 Storehouses also for the increase of grain, and wine, and oil; and stalls for all manner of beasts, and sheepfolds for flocks.
| ומסכנות לתבואת דגן ותירוש ויצהר וארות לכל בהמה ובהמה ועדרים לאורות׃ |
29 Moreover he provided for himself cities, and possessions of flocks and herds in abundance: for God had given him substance in great abundance.
| וערים עשה לו ומקנה צאן ובקר לרב כי נתן לו אלהים רכוש רב מאד׃ |
30 This same Hezekiah also stopped the upper watercourse of Gihon, and brought it straight down to the west side of the city of David. And Hezekiah prospered in all his works.
| והוא יחזקיהו סתם את מוצא מימי גיחון העליון ויישרם למטה מערבה לעיר דויד ויצלח יחזקיהו בכל מעשהו׃ |
31 But in the business of the ambassadors of the princes of Babylon, who sent to him to enquire of the wonder that was done in the land, God left him, to try him, that he might know all that was in his heart.
| וכן במליצי שרי בבל המשלחים עליו לדרש המופת אשר היה בארץ עזבו האלהים לנסותו לדעת כל בלבבו׃ |
32 Now the rest of the acts of Hezekiah, and his goodness, behold, they are written in the vision of Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, and in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.
| ויתר דברי יחזקיהו וחסדיו הנם כתובים בחזון ישעיהו בן אמוץ הנביא על ספר מלכי יהודה וישראל׃ |
33 And Hezekiah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the chief of the sepulchres of the sons of David: and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem did him honour at his death. And Manasseh his son reigned in his stead.
| וישכב יחזקיהו עם אבתיו ויקברהו במעלה קברי בני דויד וכבוד עשו לו במותו כל יהודה וישבי ירושלם וימלך מנשה בנו תחתיו׃ |
