2 Chronicles 24
1 Joash was seven years old when he began to reign, and he reigned forty years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name also was Zibiah of Beersheba.
De siete años era Joas, cuando comenzó a reinar, y cuarenta años reinó en Jerusalem. El nombre de su madre fue Sebia de Beer-seba.
2 And Joash did that which was right in the sight of the LORD all the days of Jehoiada the priest.
E hizo Joas lo recto en los ojos de Jehová todos los días de Joiada el sacerdote.
3 And Jehoiada took for him two wives; and he begat sons and daughters.
Y tomóle Joiada dos mujeres, y engendró hijos e hijas.
4 And it came to pass after this, that Joash was minded to repair the house of the LORD.
Después de esto aconteció que Joas tuvo voluntad de reparar la casa de Jehová.
5 And he gathered the priests and the Levites, and said to them, Go out to the cities of Judah, and gather from all Israel money to repair the house of your God from year to year, and see that ye hasten the matter. But the Levites hastened it not.
Y juntó los sacerdotes y los Levitas, y díjoles: Salíd por las ciudades de Judá, y juntád dinero de todo Israel, para que cada año sea reparada la casa de vuestro Dios, y vosotros ponéd diligencia en el negocio: mas los Levitas no pusieron diligencia.
6 And the king called for Jehoiada the chief, and said to him, Why hast thou not required of the Levites to bring in out of Judah and out of Jerusalem the collection, according to the commandment of Moses the servant of the LORD, and of the congregation of Israel, for the tabernacle of witness?
Por lo cual el rey llamó a Joiada el principal, y díjole: ¿Por qué no has procurado que los Levitas traigan de Judá y de Jerusalem, al tabernáculo del testimonio, la ofrenda que constituyó Moisés siervo de Jehová, y de la congregación de Israel?
7 For the sons of Athaliah, that wicked woman, had broken up the house of God; and also all the dedicated things of the house of the LORD they bestowed upon Baalim.
Porque la impía Atalía, y sus hijos habían destruido la casa de Dios; y además de esto todas las cosas que habían sido consagradas para la casa de Jehová habían gastado en los ídolos.
8 And at the king’s commandment they made a chest, and set it without at the gate of the house of the LORD.
Y mandó el rey que hiciesen una arca, la cual pusieron fuera a la puerta de la casa de Jehová.
9 And they made a proclamation through Judah and Jerusalem, to bring in to the LORD the collection that Moses the servant of God laid upon Israel in the wilderness.
E hicieron pregonar en Judá y en Jerusalem, que trajesen a Jehová la ofrenda que Moisés siervo de Dios había constituido a Israel en el desierto.
10 And all the princes and all the people rejoiced, and brought in, and cast into the chest, until they had finished.
Y todos los príncipes, y todo el pueblo, se holgaron, y trajeron, y echaron en el arca, hasta que la hinchieron.
11 Now it came to pass, that at the time the chest was brought to the king’s office by the hand of the Levites, and when they saw that there was much money, the king’s scribe and the high priest’s officer came and emptied the chest, and took it, and carried it to its place again. Thus they did day by day, and assembled money in abundance.
Y como venía el tiempo para llevar el arca al magistrado del rey por mano de los Levitas, cuando veían que había mucho dinero, venía el escriba del rey, y el que estaba puesto por el sumo sacerdote, y llevaban el arca, y la vaciaban, y la volvían a su lugar: y así lo hacían de día en día, y cogían mucho dinero;
12 And the king and Jehoiada gave it to such as did the work of the service of the house of the LORD, and hired masons and carpenters to repair the house of the LORD, and also such as wrought iron and brass to mend the house of the LORD.
El cual daba el rey y Joiada a los que hacían la obra del servicio de la casa de Jehová: y cogieron canteros y oficiales que reparasen la casa de Jehová, y herreros y metalarios para reparar la casa de Jehová.
13 So the workmen wrought, and the work was perfected by them, and they set the house of God in order, and strengthened it.
Y los oficiales hacían la obra, y por sus manos fue reparada la obra; y restituyeron la casa de Dios en su disposición, y la fortificaron.
14 And when they had finished it, they brought the rest of the money before the king and Jehoiada, of which were made vessels for the house of the LORD, even vessels to minister, and to offer with, and spoons, and vessels of gold and silver. And they offered burnt offerings in the house of the LORD continually all the days of Jehoiada.
Y como habían acabado, traían lo que quedaba del dinero al rey y a Joiada; y hacían de él vasos para la casa de Jehová, vasos de servicio, morteros, cucharones, vasos de oro y de plata: y sacrificaban holocaustos continuamente en la casa de Jehová todos los días de Joiada.
15 But Jehoiada grew old, and was full of days when he died; an hundred and thirty years old was he when he died.
Mas Joiada envejeció, y murió harto de días: cuando murió, era de ciento y treinta años.
16 And they buried him in the city of David among the kings, because he had done good in Israel, both toward God, and toward his house.
Y le sepultaron en la ciudad de David con los reyes; por cuanto había hecho bien con Israel, y con Dios, y con su casa.
17 Now after the death of Jehoiada came the princes of Judah, and made obeisance to the king. Then the king hearkened to them.
Muerto Joiada vinieron los príncipes de Judá, y postráronse al rey, y el rey los oyó.
18 And they left the house of the LORD God of their fathers, and served groves and idols: and wrath came upon Judah and Jerusalem for this their trespass.
Y desampararon la casa de Jehová el Dios de sus padres, y sirvieron a los bosques, y a las imágenes esculpidas: y la ira vino sobre Judá y Jerusalem por este su pecado.
19 Yet he sent prophets to them, to bring them again to the LORD; and they testified against them: but they would not give ear.
Y envióles profetas, que los redujesen a Jehová, los cuales les protestaron: mas ellos no los escucharon.
20 And the Spirit of God came upon Zechariah the son of Jehoiada the priest, who stood above the people, and said to them, Thus saith God, Why transgress ye the commandments of the LORD, that ye cannot prosper? because ye have forsaken the LORD, he hath also forsaken you.
Y el Espíritu de Dios envistió a Zacarías, hijo de Joiada, sacerdote, el cual estando sobre el pueblo, les dijo: Así ha dicho Dios: ¿Por qué quebrantáis los mandamientos de Jehová? No os vendrá bien de ello: porque por haber dejado a Jehová, él también os dejará.
21 And they conspired against him, and stoned him with stones at the commandment of the king in the court of the house of the LORD.
Mas ellos hicieron conspiración contra él, y cubriéronle de piedras por mandado del rey, en el patio de la casa de Jehová.
22 Thus Joash the king remembered not the kindness which Jehoiada his father had done to him, but slew his son. And when he died, he said, The LORD look upon it, and require it.
Y no tuvo memoria el rey Joas de la misericordia que su padre Joiada había hecho con él: mas matóle su hijo: el cual muriendo, dijo: Jehová lo vea, y lo requiera.
23 And it came to pass at the end of the year, that the army of Syria came up against him: and they came to Judah and Jerusalem, and destroyed all the princes of the people from among the people, and sent all the spoil of them to the king of Damascus.
A la vuelta del año subió contra él el ejército de Siria; y vinieron en Judá y en Jerusalem, y destruyeron en el pueblo a todos los principales de él: y enviaron todos sus despojos al rey a Damasco.
24 For the army of the Syrians came with a small company of men, and the LORD delivered a very great host into their hand, because they had forsaken the LORD God of their fathers. So they executed judgment against Joash.
Porque aunque el ejército de Siria había venido con poca gente, Jehová les entregó en sus manos un ejército en grande multitud, por cuanto habían dejado a Jehová el Dios de sus padres: y con Joas hicieron juicios.
25 And when they had departed from him, (for they left him in great diseases, ) his own servants conspired against him for the blood of the sons of Jehoiada the priest, and slew him on his bed, and he died: and they buried him in the city of David, but they buried him not in the sepulchres of the kings.
Y yéndose de él los Siros, dejáronle en muchas enfermedades: y conspiraron contra él sus siervos a causa de las sangres de los hijos de Joiada el sacerdote; e hiriéronle en su cama, y murió: y sepultáronle en la ciudad de David; mas no le sepultaron en los sepulcros de los reyes.
26 And these are they that conspired against him; Zabad the son of Shimeath an Ammonitess, and Jehozabad the son of Shimrith a Moabitess.
Los que conspiraron contra él fueron, Zabad, hijo de Semaat Ammonita, y Jozabad, hijo de Semarit Moabita.
27 Now concerning his sons, and the greatness of the burdens laid upon him, and the repairing of the house of God, behold, they are written in the story of the book of the kings. And Amaziah his son reigned in his stead.
De sus hijos, y de la multiplicación que hizo de las rentas, y de la fundación de la casa de Dios, he aquí, está escrito en la historia del libro de los reyes. Y reinó en su lugar Amasías su hijo.
