2 Chronicles 24

1 Joash was seven years old when he began to reign, and he reigned forty years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name also was Zibiah of Beersheba.

১সাত বছর বয়সে যোয়াশ রাজত্ব করতে শুরু করেন এবং যিরূশালেমে চল্লিশ বছর রাজত্ব করেন; তাঁর মায়ের নাম সিবিয়া, তিনি বের-শেবা নগরের মেয়ে।

2 And Joash did that which was right in the sight of the LORD all the days of Jehoiada the priest.

২যিহোয়াদা যাজকের সমস্ত জীবনকালে যোয়াশ সদাপ্রভুর চোখে যা ঠিক, তাই করতেন।

3 And Jehoiada took for him two wives; and he begat sons and daughters.

৩আর যিহোয়াদা তাঁর দুটি বিয়ে দিলেন; তারপর তাঁর ছেলেমেয়ে হল।

4 And it came to pass after this, that Joash was minded to repair the house of the LORD.

৪পরে যোয়াশ সদাপ্রভুর গৃহ মেরামত করবার জন্য স্থির করলেন।

5 And he gathered the priests and the Levites, and said to them, Go out to the cities of Judah, and gather from all Israel money to repair the house of your God from year to year, and see that ye hasten the matter. But the Levites hastened it not.

৫তাতে তিনি যাজকদের ও লেবীয়দের ডেকে জড়ো করে বললেন, “তোমরা যিহূদার নগরে নগরে যাও এবং প্রতি বছর তোমাদের ঈশ্বরের গৃহ মেরামত করবার জন্য সমস্ত ইস্রায়েলের কাছ থেকে রূপা আদায় কর; এই কাজটি তাড়াতাড়ি কর।” কিন্তু লেবীয়েরা সেই কাজ তাড়াতাড়ি করল না।

6 And the king called for Jehoiada the chief, and said to him, Why hast thou not required of the Levites to bring in out of Judah and out of Jerusalem the collection, according to the commandment of Moses the servant of the LORD, and of the congregation of Israel, for the tabernacle of witness?

৬পরে রাজা প্রধান যাজক যিহোয়াদাকে ডেকে বললেন, “সাক্ষ্য তাঁবুর জন্য ঈশ্বরের দাস মোশি ও ইস্রায়েল সমাজের মাধ্যমে যে কর নির্ধারিত হয়েছে, তা যিহূদা ও যিরূশালেম থেকে আদায় করতে আপনি লেবীয়দের বলে দেন নি কেন?”

7 For the sons of Athaliah, that wicked woman, had broken up the house of God; and also all the dedicated things of the house of the LORD they bestowed upon Baalim.

৭কারণ সেই দুষ্টা স্ত্রীলোক অথলিয়ার ছেলেরা ঈশ্বরের গৃহ ভেঙে ফেলেছিল এবং সদাপ্রভুর গৃহের সমস্ত পবিত্র জিনিসগুলি নিয়ে বাল দেবতার জন্য ব্যবহার করেছিল।

8 And at the king’s commandment they made a chest, and set it without at the gate of the house of the LORD.

৮পরে রাজা আদেশ দিলে তারা একটি সিন্দুক তৈরী করে সদাপ্রভুর গৃহের দরজার ঠিক বাইরে স্থাপন করল।

9 And they made a proclamation through Judah and Jerusalem, to bring in to the LORD the collection that Moses the servant of God laid upon Israel in the wilderness.

৯আর ঈশ্বরের দাস মোশি যে কর মরুপ্রান্তে দিতে হবে বলে ঠিক করেছিল, সদাপ্রভুর কাছে নিয়ে আসার কথা তারা যিহূদা ও যিরূশালেমে ঘোষণা করল।

10 And all the princes and all the people rejoiced, and brought in, and cast into the chest, until they had finished.

১০তাতে সমস্ত শাসনকর্ত্তা ও সমস্ত প্রজা আনন্দ করে তা আনতে লাগল এবং যতক্ষণ না কাজ শেষ হল, ততক্ষণ সিন্দুকে তা রাখত।

11 Now it came to pass, that at the time the chest was brought to the king’s office by the hand of the Levites, and when they saw that there was much money, the king’s scribe and the high priest’s officer came and emptied the chest, and took it, and carried it to its place again. Thus they did day by day, and assembled money in abundance.

১১আর যে দিনের লেবীয়দের হাতে করে সেই সিন্দুক রাজার কর্মচারীদের কাছে নিয়ে আসত, তখন তার মধ্যে অনেক রূপা দেখা গেলে রাজার লেখক ও প্রধান যাজকের কর্মচারী এসে সিন্দুকটি খালি করত, পরে আবার সেটা তুলে তার জায়গায় রাখত; দিন দিন এই ভাবে অনেক রূপা জমা করলো।

12 And the king and Jehoiada gave it to such as did the work of the service of the house of the LORD, and hired masons and carpenters to repair the house of the LORD, and also such as wrought iron and brass to mend the house of the LORD.

১২পরে রাজা ও যিহোয়াদা সদাপ্রভুর গৃহে যাদের উপর দায়িত্ব ছিল সেগুলি তাদের হাতে দিতেন; তারা সদাপ্রভুর গৃহ মেরামত করবার জন্য রাজমিস্ত্রি ও ছুতোরকে মজুরী দিত এবং সদাপ্রভুর গৃহ মেরামত করার জন্য লোহা ও পিতলের কারিগরদেরকেও দিত।

13 So the workmen wrought, and the work was perfected by them, and they set the house of God in order, and strengthened it.

১৩এই ভাবে যারা সারাইয়ের কাজ করছিল তারা খুব পরিশ্রম করলে তাদের মাধ্যমে কাজ এগিয়ে চলল; আর তারা ঈশ্বরের গৃহটি মেরামত করে আগের মত মজবুত করল।

14 And when they had finished it, they brought the rest of the money before the king and Jehoiada, of which were made vessels for the house of the LORD, even vessels to minister, and to offer with, and spoons, and vessels of gold and silver. And they offered burnt offerings in the house of the LORD continually all the days of Jehoiada.

১৪কাজ শেষ করে তারা বাকি রূপা রাজা ও যিহোয়াদার কাছে নিয়ে আসত এবং তার ফলে সদাপ্রভুর গৃহের জন্য নানা পাত্র, অর্থাৎ সেবার জন্য ও হোমের পাত্র এবং চামচ, সোনা ও রূপার পাত্র তৈরী হল। আর তারা যিহোয়াদা যতদিন বেঁচে ছিলেন ততদিন সদাপ্রভুর গৃহে নিয়মিত হোম করত।

15 But Jehoiada grew old, and was full of days when he died; an hundred and thirty years old was he when he died.

১৫পরে যিহোয়াদা বুড়ো হয়ে আয়ু পূর্ণ হলে মারা গেলেন; সেই দিনের তাঁর একশো ত্রিশ বছর বয়স হয়েছিল।

16 And they buried him in the city of David among the kings, because he had done good in Israel, both toward God, and toward his house.

১৬লোকেরা দায়ূদ নগরে রাজাদের সঙ্গে তাঁর কবর দিল, কারণ তিনি ইস্রায়েলের মধ্যে এবং ঈশ্বর ও তাঁর গৃহের জন্য ভাল কাজ করেছিলেন।

17 Now after the death of Jehoiada came the princes of Judah, and made obeisance to the king. Then the king hearkened to them.

১৭যিহোয়াদার মৃত্যুর পরে যিহূদার শাসনকর্তারা এসে রাজাকে প্রণাম করল; তখন রাজা তাদের কথাই শুনলেন।

18 And they left the house of the LORD God of their fathers, and served groves and idols: and wrath came upon Judah and Jerusalem for this their trespass.

১৮পরে তারা তাদের পূর্বপুরুষদের ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভুর গৃহ ত্যাগ করে আশেরা-মূর্তির ও নানা প্রতিমার পূজা করতে লাগল; আর তাদের এই পাপের জন্য যিহূদা ও যিরূশালেমের উপর ক্রোধ নেমে এল।

19 Yet he sent prophets to them, to bring them again to the LORD; and they testified against them: but they would not give ear.

১৯যদিও সদাপ্রভুর দিকে তাদের ফিরিয়ে আনবার জন্য তিনি তাদের কাছে ভাববাদীদেরকে পাঠালেন, আর তাঁরা তাদের বিরুদ্ধে সাক্ষ্য দিলেন; কিন্তু লোকরা সেই কথা শুনতে চাইল না।

20 And the Spirit of God came upon Zechariah the son of Jehoiada the priest, who stood above the people, and said to them, Thus saith God, Why transgress ye the commandments of the LORD, that ye cannot prosper? because ye have forsaken the LORD, he hath also forsaken you.

২০পরে ঈশ্বরের আত্মা যিহোয়াদা যাজকের ছেলে সখরিয়ের উপর এলে, তিনি লোকদের থেকে উঁচু জায়গায় দাঁড়িয়ে তাদের বললেন, “ঈশ্বর এই কথা বলছেন, ‘তোমরা কেন সদাপ্রভুর আদেশ অমান্য করছ? এতে সফল হবে না। তোমরা সদাপ্রভুকে ত্যাগ করেছ, তিনিও তোমাদের ত্যাগ করলেন।’”

21 And they conspired against him, and stoned him with stones at the commandment of the king in the court of the house of the LORD.

২১তাতে লোকেরা তাঁর বিরুদ্ধে ষড়যন্ত্র করে রাজার আদেশে সদাপ্রভুর গৃহের উঠানে তাঁকে পাথর ছুঁড়ে মেরে ফেলল।

22 Thus Joash the king remembered not the kindness which Jehoiada his father had done to him, but slew his son. And when he died, he said, The LORD look upon it, and require it.

২২তাঁর বাবা যিহোয়াদা রাজার প্রতি যে দয়া দেখিয়েছিলেন, তা মনে না রেখে যোয়াশ রাজা তাঁর ছেলেকে মেরে ফেললেন; তিনি মারা যাবার দিন বললেন, “সদাপ্রভু এই কাজ দেখে আপনাকে শাস্তি দেবেন।”

23 And it came to pass at the end of the year, that the army of Syria came up against him: and they came to Judah and Jerusalem, and destroyed all the princes of the people from among the people, and sent all the spoil of them to the king of Damascus.

২৩পরের বছর অরামের সৈন্যেরা যোয়াশের বিরুদ্ধে আসল। তারা যিহূদা ও যিরূশালেম আক্রমণ করে সব শাসনকর্ত্তাদের মেরে ফেলল এবং তাদের সমস্ত জিনিস লুট করে দম্মেশকে রাজার কাছে পাঠিয়ে দিল।

24 For the army of the Syrians came with a small company of men, and the LORD delivered a very great host into their hand, because they had forsaken the LORD God of their fathers. So they executed judgment against Joash.

২৪বাস্তবিক অরামীয় সৈন্যদলে কম লোক আসলো, আর সদাপ্রভু তাদের হাতে অনেক বড় সৈন্যদলকে তুলে দিলেন, কারণ লোকেরা তাদের পূর্বপুরুষদের ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভুকে ত্যাগ করেছিল। এই ভাবে অরামীয়দের মাধ্যমে যোয়াশকে শাস্তি দেওয়া হল।

25 And when they had departed from him, (for they left him in great diseases, ) his own servants conspired against him for the blood of the sons of Jehoiada the priest, and slew him on his bed, and he died: and they buried him in the city of David, but they buried him not in the sepulchres of the kings.

২৫তারা তাঁকে খুব আহত অবস্থায় ফেলে রেখে চলে গেলে তাঁর দাসেরা যিহোয়াদা যাজকের ছেলেদের রক্তপাতের জন্য তাঁর বিরুদ্ধে ষড়যন্ত্র করে তাঁর বিছানার উপরেই তাঁকে মেরে ফেলল এবং তিনি মারা যাওয়ার পর তাঁকে দায়ূদ নগরে তাঁর কবর দিল ঠিকই, কিন্তু রাজাদের কবরের জায়গায় কবর দিল না।

26 And these are they that conspired against him; Zabad the son of Shimeath an Ammonitess, and Jehozabad the son of Shimrith a Moabitess.

২৬অম্মোনীয় শিমিয়তের ছেলে সাবদ ও মোয়াবীয়া শিম্রীতের ছেলে যিহোষাবদ, এই দুজন তাঁর বিরুদ্ধে ষড়যন্ত্র করেছিল।

27 Now concerning his sons, and the greatness of the burdens laid upon him, and the repairing of the house of God, behold, they are written in the story of the book of the kings. And Amaziah his son reigned in his stead.

২৭তাঁর ছেলেদের কথা, তাঁর বিষয়ে অনেক গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভাববানীর কথা ও ঈশ্বরের গৃহ মেরামতের বর্ণনা দেখো, এইসব বিষয় “রাজাদের ইতিহাস” নামক বইতে ব্যাখ্যান গ্রন্থে লেখা আছে; পরে তাঁর জায়গায় তাঁর ছেলে অমৎসিয় রাজা হলেন।
