2 Chronicles 21

1 Now Jehoshaphat slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David. And Jehoram his son reigned in his stead.

Josaphat se coucha avec ses pères, et il fut enterré avec ses pères dans la ville de David; Joram, son fils, régna à sa place.

2 And he had brethren the sons of Jehoshaphat, Azariah, and Jehiel, and Zechariah, and Azariah, and Michael, and Shephatiah: all these were the sons of Jehoshaphat king of Israel.

Joram avait des frères, fils de Josaphat: Azarias, Jahiel, Zacharias, Azarias, Michaël et Saphatias; ils étaient tous fils de Josaphat, roi de Juda.

3 And their father gave them great gifts of silver, and of gold, and of precious things, with fortified cities in Judah: but the kingdom he gave to Jehoram; because he was the firstborn.

Leur père leur avait donné des présents considérables en or et en argent, et en objets de prix, avec des villes fortes en Juda; mais il laissa le royaume à Joram, parce qu'il était le premier-né.

4 Now when Jehoram had risen to the kingdom of his father, he strengthened himself, and slew all his brethren with the sword, and others also of the princes of Israel.

Joram s'établit sur le royaume de son père et, lorsqu'il se fut affermi, il fit mourir par l'épée tous ses frères, et aussi quelques-uns des chefs d'Israël.

5 Jehoram was thirty and two years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem.

Joram avait trente-deux ans lorsqu'il devint roi, et il régna huit ans à Jérusalem.

6 And he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, as did the house of Ahab: for he had the daughter of Ahab for a wife: and he wrought that which was evil in the eyes of the LORD.

Il marcha dans la voie des rois d'Israël, comme avait fait la maison d'Achab, car il avait pour femme une fille d'Achab, et il fit ce qui est mal aux yeux de Yahweh.

7 Yet the LORD would not destroy the house of David, because of the covenant that he had made with David, and as he promised to give a light to him and to his sons for ever.

Mais Yahweh ne voulut pas détruire la maison de David, à cause de l'alliance qu'il avait contractée avec David, et parce qu'il lui avait dit qu'il lui donnerait toujours une lampe, à lui et à ses fils.

8 In his days the Edomites revolted from under the dominion of Judah, and made themselves a king.

De son temps, Edom se révolta contre la domination de Juda et se donna un roi.

9 Then Jehoram went forth with his princes, and all his chariots with him: and he rose by night, and smote the Edomites who surrounded him, and the captains of the chariots.

Joram se mit en marche avec ses chefs et tous ses chars; s'étant levé de nuit, il battit les Edomites qui l'entouraient et les chefs des chars.

10 So the Edomites revolted from under the hand of Judah to this day. The same time also did Libnah revolt from under his hand; because he had forsaken the LORD God of his fathers.

Edom s'affranchit de la domination de Juda, jusqu'à ce jour. Lobna s'affranchit aussi dans le même temps de sa domination, parce qu'il avait abandonné Yahweh, le Dieu de ses pères.

11 Moreover he made high places in the mountains of Judah, and caused the inhabitants of Jerusalem to play the harlot, and compelled Judah to do the same.

Joram fit même des hauts lieux dans les montagnes de Juda; il poussa à la prostitution les habitants de Jérusalem, et il séduisit Juda.

12 And there came a writing to him from Elijah the prophet, saying, Thus saith the LORD God of David thy father, Because thou hast not walked in the ways of Jehoshaphat thy father, nor in the ways of Asa king of Judah,

Il lui vint un écrit de la part du prophète Elie, disant: " Ainsi dit Yahweh, le Dieu de David, ton père: Parce que tu n'as pas marché dans les voies de Josaphat, ton père, et dans les voies d'Asa, roi de Juda,

13 But hast walked in the way of the kings of Israel, and hast made Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to play the harlot, like the harlotries of the house of Ahab, and also hast slain thy brethren of thy father’s house, who were better than thyself:

mais que tu as marché dans la voie des rois d'Israël; parce que tu as poussé à la prostitution Juda et les habitants de Jérusalem, comme la maison d'Achab poussait Israël à la prostitution, et parce que tu as fait mourir tes frères, meilleurs que toi, la maison même de ton père:

14 Behold, with a great plague will the LORD smite thy people, and thy children, and thy wives, and all thy goods:

voici que Yahweh frappera d'une grande plaie ton peuple, tes fils, tes femmes et tout ce qui t'appartient;

15 And thou shalt have great sickness by disease of thy bowels, until thy bowels fall out by reason of the sickness day by day.

et toi, tu seras frappé de graves maladies, d'une maladie d'entrailles, telle que tes entrailles sortiront par la violence du mal, pendant de nombreux jours ".

16 Moreover the LORD stirred up against Jehoram the spirit of the Philistines, and of the Arabians, that were near the Cushites:

Et Yahweh excita contre Joram l'esprit des Philistins et des Arabes voisins des Ethiopiens.

17 And they came up into Judah, and broke into it, and carried away all the substance that was found in the king’s house, and his sons also, and his wives; so that there was not a son left to him, except Jehoahaz, the youngest of his sons.

Etant montés en Juda, ils s'y répandirent, pillèrent toutes les richesses qui se trouvaient dans la maison du roi, et emmenèrent aussi ses fils et ses femmes, de sorte qu'il ne lui resta plus d'autre fils que Joachaz, le plus jeune de ses fils.

18 And after all this the LORD smote him in his bowels with an incurable disease.

Après tout cela, Yahweh le frappa dans ses entrailles d'une maladie sans remède.

19 And it came to pass, that in process of time, after the end of two years, his bowels fell out by reason of his sickness: so he died of grievous diseases. And his people made no burning for him, like the burning of his fathers.

Les jours s'écoulant, sur la fin de la seconde année, les entrailles de Joram sortirent par la violence de son mal. Il mourut dans de grandes souffrances, et son peuple ne brûla pas de parfums en son honneur, comme il en avait brûlé pour ses pères.

20 Thirty and two years old was he when he began to reign, and he reigned in Jerusalem eight years, and departed without being desired. Yet they buried him in the city of David, but not in the sepulchres of the kings.

Joram avait trente-deux ans lorsqu'il devint roi, et il régna huit ans à Jérusalem. Il s'en alla sans être regretté, et on l'enterra dans la ville de David, mais non dans les sépulcres des rois.
