1 Samuel 17
1 Now the Philistines gathered together their armies to battle, and were gathered together at Shochoh, which belongeth to Judah, and encamped between Shochoh and Azekah, in Ephesdammim.
౧ఫిలిష్తీయులు యూదా ప్రదేశంలో తమ సైన్యాలను యుద్ధానికి సమకూర్చారు. శోకోలో సమకూడి ఏఫెస్దమ్మీము దగ్గర శోకో, అజేకా మధ్య మకాం చేశారు.
2 And Saul and the men of Israel were gathered together, and encamped by the valley of Elah, and they set the battle in array against the Philistines.
౨సౌలు, ఇశ్రాయేలీయులు కూడుకుని ఏలా లోయలో దిగి ఫిలిష్తీయులను ఎదిరించడానికి వరుసల్లో నిలబడ్డారు.
3 And the Philistines stood on a mountain on the one side, and Israel stood on a mountain on the other side: and there was a valley between them.
౩ఒక లోయకు ఇరుప్రక్కలా కొండల మీద ఫిలిష్తీయులు, ఇశ్రాయేలీయులు నిలిచి ఉన్నారు.
4 And there went out a champion from the camp of the Philistines, named Goliath, of Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span.
౪ఫిలిష్తీయుల సైన్యంలోనుండి గొల్యాతు అనే బలశాలి బయలుదేరాడు. అతడు గాతు ప్రాంతానికి చెందినవాడు. అతని ఎత్తు ఆరు మూరల ఒక జానెడు.
5 And he had an helmet of brass upon his head, and he was armed with a coat of mail; and the weight of the coat was five thousand shekels of brass.
౫అతడు తన తలపై కంచు శిరస్త్రాణం ధరించాడు. అతడు యుద్ధ కవచం పెట్టుకున్నాడు. కవచం బరువు 57 కిలోలు.
6 And he had greaves of brass upon his legs, and a gorget of brass between his shoulders.

7 And the staff of his spear was like a weaver’s beam; and his spear’s head weighed six hundred shekels of iron: and one bearing a shield went before him.
౭అతని చేతిలోని ఈటె, చేనేత పనివాడి అడ్డకర్ర అంతపెద్దది. ఈటె కొన బరువు 7 కిలోల ఇనుమంత బరువు. ఒక సైనికుడు బల్లెం మోస్తూ గొల్యాతు ముందు నడుస్తున్నాడు.
8 And he stood and cried to the armies of Israel, and said to them, Why have ye come out to set your battle in array? am not I a Philistine, and ye servants to Saul? choose for yourselves a man for you, and let him come down to me.
౮అతడు నిలబడి ఇశ్రాయేలీయుల సైన్యం వారితో “నేను ఫిలిష్తీయుణ్ణి, మీరంతా సౌలు దాసులు కదా. యుద్ధం చేయడానికి మీరంతా ఎందుకు వస్తున్నారు? మీరు మీ తరఫున ఒకరిని ఎన్నుకుని అతణ్ణి నాపైకి యుద్ధానికి పంపండి.
9 If he shall be able to fight with me, and to kill me, then will we be your servants: but if I shall prevail against him, and kill him, then shall ye be our servants, and serve us.
౯అతడు నాతో పోరాడి నన్ను చంపగలిగితే మేమంతా మీకు దాసోహం అవుతాం. నేనే గనక అతణ్ణి జయించి, అతణ్ణి చంపితే మీరంతా మాకు దాస్యం చేయాలి.”
10 And the Philistine said, I defy the armies of Israel this day; give me a man, that we may fight together.
౧౦ఆ ఫిలిష్తీయుడు ఇంకా ఇలా అన్నాడు. “ఈ రోజున నేను ఇశ్రాయేలీయుల సైన్న్యాన్ని సవాలు చేస్తున్నాను. మీ నుండి ఒకరిని పంపితే వాడూ నేనూ పోరాడతాం” అంటూ రంకెలు వేశాడు.
11 When Saul and all Israel heard those words of the Philistine, they were dismayed, and greatly afraid.
౧౧సౌలు, ఇశ్రాయేలీయులందరూ ఆ ఫిలిష్తీయుని కేకలు విని హడలిపోయి చాలా భయపడి పోయారు.
12 Now David was the son of that Ephrathite of Bethlehemjudah, whose name was Jesse; and he had eight sons: and the man went among men for an old man in the days of Saul.
౧౨దావీదు యూదా దేశపు బేత్లెహేమువాడు, ఎఫ్రాతీయుడైన యెష్షయి కొడుకు. యెష్షయికి ఎనిమిదిమంది కొడుకులు. అతడు సౌలు కాలంలో ముసలివాడై బలహీనంగా ఉన్నాడు.
13 And the three eldest sons of Jesse went and followed Saul to the battle: and the names of his three sons that went to the battle were Eliab the firstborn, and next to him Abinadab, and the third Shammah.
౧౩యెష్షయి ముగ్గురు పెద్ద కొడుకులు సౌలుతోపాటు యుద్ధానికి వెళ్లారు. యుద్ధానికి వెళ్ళిన అతని ముగ్గురు కొడుకుల్లో మొదటివాడు ఏలీయాబు, రెండవవాడు అబీనాదాబు, మూడవవాడు షమ్మా.
14 And David was the youngest: and the three eldest followed Saul.
౧౪దావీదు ఆఖరి కొడుకు. అన్నలు ముగ్గురూ సౌలుతోబాటు వెళ్లారు కాని
15 But David went and returned from Saul to feed his father’s sheep at Bethlehem.
౧౫దావీదు బేత్లెహేములో తన తండ్రి గొర్రెలను మేపుతూ, సౌలు దగ్గరకు వెళ్ళి వస్తూ ఉన్నాడు.
16 And the Philistine drew near morning and evening, and presented himself forty days.
౧౬ఆ ఫిలిష్తీయుడు నలభై రోజులు ప్రతి ఉదయం సాయంత్రం లోయలోకి వచ్చి నిలబడేవాడు.
17 And Jesse said to David his son, Take now for thy brethren an ephah of this roasted grain, and these ten loaves, and run to the camp to thy brethren;
౧౭యెష్షయి తన కొడుకు దావీదును పిలిచి “ఒక తూముడు వేయించిన గోదుమలనూ పది రొట్టెలనూ తీసుకు సైన్యంలో ఉన్న నీ అన్నల కోసం తొందరగా వెళ్ళు.
18 And carry these ten cheeses to the captain of their thousand, and see how thy brethren fare, and take their pledge.
౧౮ఇంకా ఈ పది జున్నుగడ్డలు తీసికువెళ్ళి వారి సహస్రాధిపతికి ఇవ్వు. నీ అన్నల క్షేమసమాచారం తెలుసుకుని వారి దగ్గరనుండి ఏదైనా గుర్తు తీసుకురా” అని చెప్పి పంపించాడు.
19 Now Saul, and they, and all the men of Israel, were in the valley of Elah, fighting with the Philistines.
౧౯సౌలు సైన్యం, ఇశ్రాయేలీయులంతా ఏలా లోయలో ఫిలిష్తీయులతో యుద్ధం చేస్తున్నారు.
20 And David rose early in the morning, and left the sheep with a keeper, and took, and went, as Jesse had commanded him; and he came to the trench, as the host was going forth to the fight, and shouted for the battle.
౨౦దావీదు ఉదయాన్నే లేచి మరో కాపరికి తన గొర్రెలను అప్పగించి ఆ వస్తువులను తీసుకు యెష్షయి ఆజ్ఞాపించినట్టు ప్రయాణమయ్యాడు. అతడు యుద్ధ శిబిరం చేరే సమయానికి సైన్యాలు బారులుతీరి నినాదాలు చేస్తూ యుద్ధరంగానికి చేరుకొంటున్నారు.
21 For Israel and the Philistines had put the battle in array, army against army.
౨౧ఇశ్రాయేలువారు, ఫిలిష్తీయవారు ఎదురెదురుగా నిలిచి యుద్ధానికి సిద్ధపడుతున్నారు.
22 And David left his baggage in the hand of the keeper of the baggage, and ran into the army, and came and greeted his brethren.
౨౨దావీదు తాను తెచ్చిన వస్తువులను సామానులు భద్రపరచే వాని దగ్గర ఉంచి, పరిగెత్తుకుంటూ సైన్యంలో చొరబడి తన అన్నలను కుశల ప్రశ్నలడిగాడు.
23 And as he talked with them, behold, there came up the champion, the Philistine of Gath, Goliath by name, from the armies of the Philistines, and spoke according to the same words: and David heard them.
౨౩అతడు వారితో మాట్లాడుతున్నప్పుడు గాతు పట్టణపు ఫిలిష్తీయ బలశాలి, గొల్యాతు ఫిలిష్తీయుల సైన్యంలోనుండి వచ్చి పైన పలికిన మాటల్నే చెప్పడం దావీదు విన్నాడు.
24 And all the men of Israel, when they saw the man, fled from him, and were exceedingly afraid.
౨౪ఇశ్రాయేలీ సైనికులు అతణ్ణి చూసి ఎంతో భయపడి అతని దగ్గర నుండి పారిపోయారు.
25 And the men of Israel said, Have ye seen this man that hath come up? surely to defy Israel hath he come: and it shall be, that the man who shall kill him, the king will enrich him with great riches, and will give him his daughter, and make his father’s house free in Israel.
౨౫ఇశ్రాయేలీయులు “ముందుకు వస్తున్న అతణ్ణి చూశారా, కచ్చితంగా ఇశ్రాయేలీయులను ఎదిరించడానికి వాడు బయలుదేరాడు. వాణ్ణి చంపినవాడికి రాజు చాలా డబ్బులిచ్చి, కూతురినిచ్చి పెళ్లిచేసి, అతణ్ణి, అతని కుటుంబాన్ని పన్ను కట్టే బాధ్యత నుండి మినహాయిస్తాడు” అని చెప్పాడు.
26 And David spoke to the men that stood by him, saying, What shall be done to the man that killeth this Philistine, and taketh away the reproach from Israel? for who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?
౨౬అప్పుడు దావీదు “సజీవుడైన దేవుని సైన్యాలను ఎదిరించడానికి ఈ సున్నతి లేని ఫిలిష్తీయునికి ఎంత ధైర్యం?” వాణ్ణి చంపి ఇశ్రాయేలీయులకు వచ్చిన ఈ అపవాదును తీసివేసిన వాడికి వచ్చే బహుమతి ఏమిటి అని తన దగ్గర నిలబడినవాళ్ళని అడిగితే,
27 And the people answered him after this manner, saying, So shall it be done to the man that killeth him.
౨౭వారు, వాణ్ణి చంపినవాడికి లభించే కానుకల గురించి చెప్పారు.
28 And Eliab his eldest brother heard when he spoke to the men; and Eliab’s anger was kindled against David, and he said, Why camest thou down here? and with whom hast thou left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know thy pride, and the naughtiness of thy heart; for thou art come down that thou mayest see the battle.
౨౮దావీదు వారితో మాట్లాడుతున్న విషయాలు, అతని పెద్దన్న ఏలీయాబు విన్నాడు. అతడు దావీదు మీద కోపపడి “నువ్వు ఇక్కడికి ఎందుకొచ్చావు? అడవిలో ఆ చిన్న గొర్రెల మందను ఎవరికి అప్పగించావు? నీ గర్వం, నీలోని చెడుతనం నాకు తెలుసు. యుద్ధం చూడడానికే నువ్వు వచ్చావు కదా?” అన్నాడు.
29 And David said, What have I now done? Is there not a cause?
౨౯దావీదు “నేనేం చేశాను? ఊరికే అడుగుతున్నాను” అని చెప్పి
30 And he turned from him toward another, and spoke after the same manner: and the people answered him again after the former manner.
౩౦అక్కడ నుండి మరో వ్యక్తిని ఆలానే అడిగాడు. మళ్ళీ అదే జవాబు వచ్చింది.
31 And when the words were heard which David spoke, they reported them before Saul: and he sent for him.
౩౧దావీదు అడుగుతున్న మాటలు కొందరికి తెలిసినప్పుడు వారు ఆ సంగతి సౌలుతో చెబితే సౌలు దావీదును పిలిపించాడు.
32 And David said to Saul, Let no man’s heart fail because of him; thy servant will go and fight with this Philistine.
౩౨దావీదు సౌలుతో “ఈ ఫిలిష్తీయుడి విషయంలో ఎవరూ ఆందోళన పడనక్కరలేదు. మీ సేవకుడనైన నేను వాడితో యుద్ధం చేస్తాను” అన్నాడు.
33 And Saul said to David, Thou art not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him: for thou art but a youth, and he a man of war from his youth.
౩౩సౌలు “ఈ ఫిలిష్తీయునితో యుద్ధం చేయడానికి నీకు బలం చాలదు. నువ్వు చిన్న పిల్లవాడివి. వాడు చిన్నప్పటినుండి యుద్దాలు చేస్తూ ఉన్నాడు” అని దావీదుతో అన్నాడు.
34 And David said to Saul, Thy servant kept his father’s sheep, and there came a lion, and a bear, and took a lamb out of the flock:
౩౪అందుకు దావీదు సౌలుతో “నీ సేవకుడనైన నేను నా తండ్రి గొర్రెలను కాస్తూ ఉన్నప్పుడు ఒక ఎలుగుబంటి అయినా, సింహమైనా వచ్చి మందలోనుండి ఒక గొర్రెపిల్లను ఎత్తుకుపోతే
35 And I went after him, and smote him, and delivered it out of his mouth: and when he arose against me, I caught him by his beard, and smote him, and slew him.
౩౫నేను దాన్ని వెంటాడి చంపి దాని నోట్లో నుండి ఆ గొర్రెపిల్లను విడిపించాను. అది నాపైకి వచ్చినప్పుడు దాని గడ్డం పట్టుకుని కొట్టి చంపాను.
36 Thy servant slew both the lion and the bear: and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, seeing he hath defied the armies of the living God.
౩౬నీ సేవకుడనైన నేను సింహాన్నీ ఎలుగుబంటినీ చంపాను. సజీవుడైన దేవుని సైన్యాన్ని దూషించిన ఈ సున్నతిలేని ఫిలిష్తీయుడు కూడా వాటిలో ఒకదానిలాగా అవుతాడు.
37 David said moreover, The LORD that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said to David, Go, and the LORD be with thee.
౩౭సింహం, ఎలుగుబంటి బలం నుండి నన్ను రక్షించిన యెహోవా ఈ ఫిలిష్తీయుని చేతిలోనుండి కూడా నన్ను విడిపిస్తాడు” అని చెప్పాడు. సౌలు “యెహోవా నీకు తోడుగా ఉంటాడు గాక, వెళ్ళు” అని దావీదుతో అన్నాడు.
38 And Saul armed David with his armour, and he put an helmet of brass upon his head; also he armed him with a coat of mail.
౩౮అప్పుడు సౌలు తన యుద్ధ వస్త్రాలను దావీదుకు తొడిగించాడు. ఒక కంచు శిరస్త్రాణం అతనికి పెట్టి, యుద్ధ కవచం తొడిగించాడు.
39 And David girded his sword upon his armour, and he tried to go; for he had not proved it. And David said to Saul, I cannot go with these; for I have not proved them. And David put them off from him.
౩౯దావీదు తన యుద్ధ కవచం మీద తన కత్తి కట్టుకున్నాడు. అయితే అవి అతనికి అలవాటు లేవు గనక నడవలేకపోయాడు. అప్పుడు దావీదు “ఇవి నాకు అలవాటు లేదు, వీటితో నేను యుద్ధానికి వెళ్లలేను” అని సౌలుతో చెప్పి వాటిని తీసివేశాడు.
40 And he took his staff in his hand, and chose for himself five smooth stones out of the brook, and put them in a shepherd’s bag which he had, even in a bag; and his sling was in his hand: and he drew near to the Philistine.
౪౦తన చేతికర్ర పట్టుకుని వాగులోనుండి ఐదు నున్నని రాళ్లు ఏరుకుని తన దగ్గర ఉన్న వడిసెల పట్టుకుని ఆ ఫిలిష్తీయునికి దగ్గరగా వెళ్ళాడు.
41 And the Philistine advanced and drew near to David; and the man that bore the shield went before him.
౪౧బల్లెం మోసేవాడు తనకు ముందుగా నడుస్తుంటే, ఆ ఫిలిష్తీయుడు బయలుదేరి దావీదు దగ్గరికి వచ్చి
42 And when the Philistine looked about, and saw David, he disdained him: for he was a youth, and ruddy, and of a fair countenance.
౪౨చుట్టూ తేరి చూసి, ఎర్రనివాడు, అందగాడు, బాలుడు అయిన దావీదును నిర్లక్ష్యంగా చూశాడు.
43 And the Philistine said to David, Am I a dog, that thou comest to me with staffs? And the Philistine cursed David by his gods.
౪౩ఫిలిష్తీయుడు “కర్ర తీసుకు నువ్వు నా మీదికి వస్తున్నావే, నేనేమైనా కుక్కనా?” అని చెప్పి తమ దేవుళ్ళ పేరున దావీదును శపించాడు.
44 And the Philistine said to David, Come to me, and I will give thy flesh to the fowls of the air, and to the beasts of the field.
౪౪“నా దగ్గరికి రా, నిన్ను చంపి నీ మాంసాన్ని పక్షులకు, జంతువులకు వేస్తాను” అని ఆ ఫిలిష్తీయుడు దావీదుతో అన్నప్పుడు,
45 Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied.
౪౫దావీదు “నువ్వు కత్తి, ఈటె, బల్లెం తీసుకుని నా మీదికి వస్తున్నావు. నేనైతే నువ్వు దూషిస్తున్న ఇశ్రాయేలీయుల సేనల అధిపతి యెహోవా పేరిట నీ మీదికి వస్తున్నాను.
46 This day will the LORD deliver thee into my hand; and I will smite thee, and take thy head from thee; and I will give the dead bodies of the host of the Philistines this day to the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel.
౪౬ఈ రోజు యెహోవా నిన్ను నా చేతికి అప్పగిస్తాడు. నేను నిన్ను చంపి నీ తల తీసేస్తాను. దేవుడు ఇశ్రాయేలీయులకు తోడుగా ఉన్నాడని లోకంలోని వారంతా తెలుసుకొనేలా నేను ఈ రోజున ఫిలిష్తీయుల శవాలను పక్షులకు, జంతువులకు వేస్తాను.
47 And all this assembly shall know that the LORD saveth not with sword and spear: for the battle is the LORD’S, and he will give you into our hands.
౪౭అప్పుడు యెహోవా కత్తిచేత, ఈటెచేత రక్షించేవాడు కాదని ఇక్కడ ఉన్నవారంతా తెలుసుకుంటారు. యుద్ధం యెహోవాయే చేస్తాడు. ఆయన మిమ్మల్ని మాకు అప్పగిస్తాడు” అని చెప్పాడు.
48 And it came to pass, when the Philistine arose, and came and drew near to meet David, that David hasted, and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine.
౪౮ఆ ఫిలిష్తీయుడు లేచి దావీదును ఎదుర్కోవడానికి ముందుకు కదిలాడు. దావీదు, సైన్యం ఉన్న వైపుకు వేగంగా పరిగెత్తి వెళ్ళి
49 And David put his hand in his bag, and took from there a stone, and slung it with his sling, and smote the Philistine in his forehead, that the stone sunk into his forehead; and he fell upon his face to the earth.
౪౯తన సంచిలో చెయ్యి పెట్టి అందులోనుండి ఒక రాయి తీసి వడిసెలతో విసరి ఆ ఫిలిష్తీయుని నుదురుపై తగిలేలా కొట్టాడు. ఆ రాయి వాడి నుదురులోకి దూసుకు పోయింది. వాడు నేలపై బోర్లా పడిపోయాడు.
50 So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and smote the Philistine, and slew him; but there was no sword in the hand of David.
౫౦ఆ విధంగా దావీదు వడిసెలతో, రాయితో ఫిలిష్తీయుణ్ణి ఓడించాడు. అతడు ఆ ఫిలిష్తీయుణ్ణి కొట్టి చంపాడు. అతని చేతిలో కత్తి లేదు.
51 Therefore David ran, and stood upon the Philistine, and took his sword, and drew it out of its sheath, and slew him, and cut off his head with it. And when the Philistines saw their champion was dead, they fled.
౫౧దావీదు పరుగెత్తుకుంటూ వెళ్ళి ఫిలిష్తీయుని మీద నిలబడి వాడి వరలోని కత్తి దూసి దానితో వాడిని చంపి, తల తెగగొట్టాడు. ఫిలిష్తీయులు తమ వీరుడు చనిపోవడం చూసి అంతా పారిపోయారు.
52 And the men of Israel and of Judah arose, and shouted, and pursued the Philistines, to the entrance of the valley, and to the gates of Ekron. And the wounded of the Philistines fell down by the way to Shaaraim, even to Gath, and to Ekron.
౫౨అప్పుడు ఇశ్రాయేలువారు, యూదావారు లేచి, హర్షధ్వానాలు చేస్తూ బయలుదేరి లోయ ప్రదేశం వరకూ, ఎక్రోను ద్వారాల వరకూ ఫిలిష్తీయులను తరిమారు. చచ్చిన ఫిలిష్తీయులు షరాయిం దారి పొడవునా గాతు, ఎక్రోను పట్టణాల వరకూ కూలిపోయారు.
53 And the children of Israel returned from chasing the Philistines, and they plundered their tents.
౫౩తరువాత ఇశ్రాయేలువారు ఫిలిష్తీయులను తరమడం ఆపి తిరిగి వచ్చి వారి డేరాల్లో ఉన్నదంతా దోచుకున్నారు.
54 And David took the head of the Philistine, and brought it to Jerusalem; but he put his armour in his tent.
౫౪అయితే దావీదు ఆ ఫిలిష్తీయుని ఆయుధాలను తన డేరాలో ఉంచుకుని, అతని తలను తీసుకు యెరూషలేముకు వచ్చాడు.
55 And when Saul saw David go forth against the Philistine, he said to Abner, the captain of the host, Abner, whose son is this youth? And Abner said, As thy soul liveth, O king, I cannot tell.
౫౫దావీదు ఫిలిష్తీయుణ్ణి ఎదుర్కోవడానికి వెళ్ళడం చూసి సౌలు తన సైన్యాధిపతి అబ్నేరును పిలిచి “అబ్నేరూ, ఈ కుర్రవాడు ఎవరి కొడుకు?” అని అడిగినప్పుడు, అబ్నేరు “రాజా, నీమీద ఒట్టు. అతడెవరో నాకు తెలియదు” అన్నాడు.
56 And the king said, Enquire thou whose son the stripling is.
౫౬అప్పుడు రాజు “ఈ కుర్రవాడు ఎవరి కొడుకో అడిగి తెలుసుకో” అని ఆజ్ఞాపించాడు.
57 And as David returned from the slaughter of the Philistine, Abner took him, and brought him before Saul with the head of the Philistine in his hand.
౫౭ఫిలిష్తీయుని చంపి తిరిగి వస్తున్న దావీదును అబ్నేరు ఎదుర్కొని ఫిలిష్తీయుని తల, దావీదు చేతిలో ఉండగానే సౌలు దగ్గరికి తీసుకువచ్చాడు.
58 And Saul said to him, Whose son art thou, thou young man? And David answered, I am the son of thy servant Jesse the Bethlehemite.
౫౮సౌలు అతనితో “అబ్బాయ్! మీ నాన్న ఎవరు?” అని అడిగినప్పుడు దావీదు “నేను నీ దాసుడు, బేత్లెహేము ఊరి వాడైన యెష్షయి కొడుకుని” అని జవాబిచ్చాడు.
