< Psalms 132 >

1 A song of ascents. Yahweh, for David's sake call to mind all his afflictions.
A Song of the going up. Lord, give thought to David, and to all his troubles;
2 Call to mind how he swore to Yahweh, how he vowed to the Mighty One of Jacob.
How he made an oath to the Lord, and gave his word to the great God of Jacob, saying,
3 He said, “I will not enter my house or get into my bed,
Truly, I will not come into my house, or go to my bed,
4 I will not give sleep to my eyes or rest to my eyelids
I will not give sleep to my eyes, or rest to my eyeballs,
5 until I find a place for Yahweh, a tabernacle for the Mighty One of Jacob.”
Till I have got a place for the Lord, a resting-place for the great God of Jacob.
6 See, we heard about it in Ephrathah; we found it in the fields of Jaar.
We had news of it at Ephrathah: we came to it in the fields of the wood.
7 We will go into God's tabernacle; we will worship at his footstool.
Let us go into his tent; let us give worship at his feet.
8 Arise, Yahweh, to your resting place, you and the ark of your strength!
Come back, O Lord, to your resting-place; you and the ark of your strength.
9 May your priests be clothed with integrity; may your faithful ones shout for joy.
Let your priests be clothed with righteousness; and let your saints give cries of joy.
10 For your servant David's sake, do not turn away from your anointed king.
Because of your servant David, do not give up your king.
11 Yahweh swore a sure oath to David, a sure oath that he will not revoke: “I will place one of your descendants on your throne.
The Lord gave a true oath to David, which he will not take back, saying, I will give your kingdom to the fruit of your body.
12 If your sons keep my covenant and the laws that I will teach them, their children also will sit on your throne forevermore.”
If your children keep my word, and the teachings which I will give them, their children will be rulers of your kingdom for ever.
13 Certainly Yahweh has chosen Zion, he has desired her for his seat.
For the Lord's heart is on Zion, desiring it for his resting-place.
14 “This is my resting place forever. I will live here, for I desire her.
This is my rest for ever: here will I ever be; for this is my desire.
15 I will abundantly bless her with provisions. I will satisfy her poor with bread.
My blessing will be on her food; and her poor will be full of bread.
16 I will clothe her priests with salvation, her faithful ones will shout aloud for joy.
Her priests will be clothed with salvation; and her saints will give cries of joy.
17 There I will make a horn to sprout for David and set up a lamp for my anointed one.
There I will make the horn of David fertile: I have made ready a light for my king.
18 I will clothe his enemies with shame, but on him his crown will shine.”
His haters will be clothed with shame; but I will make his crown shining.
