< Luke 21 >

1 Jesus looked up and saw the rich men who were putting their gifts into the treasury.
And Jesus looked upon the rich, who cast their oblations into the treasury.
2 He saw a certain poor widow putting in two mites.
And he saw also a certain poor widow, who cast in two mites.
3 So he said, “Truly I say to you, this poor widow put in more than all of them.
And he said: Truly I say to you, that this poor widow hath cast in more than any one.
4 All of these gave gifts out of their abundance. But this widow, out of her poverty, put in all she had to live on.”
For all they, from what was superfluous to them, have cast into the receptacle of oblations to God; but she, from her penury, hath cast in all that she possessed.
5 As some spoke of the temple, how it was decorated with beautiful stones and offerings, he said,
And when some spoke of the temple, as adorned with goodly stones and oblations, Jesus said to them:
6 “As for these things that you see, the days will come when not one stone will be left on another which will not be torn down.”
As for these things, on which ye gaze, the days will come, in which there will not be left a stone upon a stone, that is not cast down.
7 So they asked him, saying, “Teacher, when will these things happen? What will be the sign when these things are about to happen?”
And they questioned him, and said: Teacher, when will these things be? And what is the sign that they are near to take place?
8 Jesus answered, “Be careful that you are not deceived. For many will come in my name, saying, 'I am he,' and, 'The time is near.' Do not go after them.
And he said to them: See, that ye be not deceived; for many will come in my name, and will say: I am Messiah and the time is near. But go ye not after them.
9 When you hear of wars and riots, do not be terrified, for these things must happen first, but the end will not happen immediately.”
And when ye shall hear of wars and commotions, be not afraid; for these things are previously to take place, but the end is not yet come.
10 Then he said to them, “Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.
For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom;
11 There will be great earthquakes, and in various places famines and plagues. There will be terrifying events and great signs from heaven.
and great earthquakes will occur in several places, and famines, and pestilences; and there will be terrors, and trepidations, and great signs from heaven will be seen, and there will be great tempests.
12 But before all of these things, they will lay their hands on you and will persecute you, delivering you over to the synagogues and prisons, bringing you before kings and governors because of my name.
But before all these things, they will lay hands upon you, and will persecute you, and will deliver you up to councils and to prison, and will arraign you before kings and governors, on account of my name.
13 It will lead to an opportunity for your testimony.
But it will be to you for a testimony.
14 Therefore resolve in your hearts not to prepare your defense ahead of time,
And settle it in your hearts, that ye will not previously seek instruction for making a defence.
15 for I will give you words and wisdom that all your adversaries will not be able to resist or contradict.
For I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your enemies will be unable to withstand.
16 But you will be delivered up also by parents, brothers, relatives, and friends, and they will put some of you to death.
And your parents, and your brothers, and your relatives, and your friends, will deliver you up, and cause some of you to die.
17 You will be hated by everyone because of my name.
And ye will be hated by every one, on account of my name.
18 But not a hair of your head will perish.
But a hair of your head shall not perish.
19 In your endurance you will gain your souls.
And by your patience, will ye preserve your souls.
20 When you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, then know that its destruction is near.
And when ye shall see Jerusalem with an army encompassing it, then know ye, that its destruction draweth nigh.
21 Then let those in Judea flee to the mountains, let those who are in the city leave it, and those who are out in the country must not enter the city.
Then let them who shall be in Judaea, flee to the mountain district; and let them, who are in the midst of it, flee away; and those in the fields, not enter it.
22 For these are days of vengeance, so that all the things that are written will be fulfilled.
For these are days of vengeance, to fulfill all that is written.
23 Woe to them who are pregnant and to them who are nursing in those days! For there will be great distress upon the land, and wrath to this people.
But woe to them that are with child, and to them that nurse children, in those days; for then will be great distress in the land, and wrath upon this people.
24 They will fall by the edge of the sword, and they will be led captive into all the nations, and Jerusalem will be trampled by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.
And they will fall by the edge of the sword, and be carried captive to every place. And Jerusalem will be trodden down by the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles shall be completed.
25 There will be signs in the sun, in the moon, and in the stars, and on the earth. The nations will be in distress, anxious because of the roar of the sea and waves.
And there will be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and distress of nations on the earth; and clasping of hands, from astonishment at the noise of the sea;
26 There will be men fainting from fear and from expectation of the things which are coming upon the world. For the powers of the heavens will be shaken.
and dismay that driveth out the souls of men, from fear of that which is to come on the earth; and the powers of heaven will be moved.
27 Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.
And then will they see the Son of man coming in the clouds, with much power, and with great glory.
28 But when these things begin to happen, stand up and lift up your heads, because your deliverance is coming near.”
And when these things shall begin to be, take courage, and lift up your heads, for your deliverance draweth nigh.
29 Jesus told them a parable, “Look at the fig tree, and all the trees.
And he uttered a similitude to them. Look at the fig-tree, and all the trees.
30 When they sprout buds, you see for yourselves and know that summer is already near.
When they bud forth, ye at once understand from them that summer approacheth.
31 So also, when you see these things happening, you know that the kingdom of God is near.
So also, when ye shall see all these things take place, know ye that the kingdom of God is near.
32 Truly I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place.
Verily I say to you, That this generation will not pass away, until all these things occur.
33 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.
Heaven and earth will pass away; but my word will not pass away.
34 But pay attention to yourselves, so that your hearts are not burdened with the effects of drinking and intoxication, and the worries of life, and then that day will close on you suddenly like a trap.
Take heed to yourselves, that your hearts be, at no time, stupefied by gluttony and ebriety and worldly care; and so that day come upon you unawares.
35 For it will come upon everyone living on the face of the whole earth.
For, like a hunter's snare, it will spring upon all them that dwell upon the face of the whole land.
36 But be alert at all times, praying that you may be strong enough to escape all these things that will take place, and to stand before the Son of Man.”
Be ye therefore vigilant, at all times, and prayerful; that ye may be worthy to escape the things that are to take place, and may stand before the Son of man.
37 So during the days he was teaching in the temple, and at night he went out and stayed on the Mount of Olives.
And, in the daytime he taught in the temple, and at night he went out and lodged in the mount, called the Place of Olives.
38 All of the people came early in the morning to hear him in the temple.
And all the people came early to him in the temple, to hear his discourse.
