Luke 14
1 It happened one Sabbath, when he went into the house of one of the leaders of the Pharisees to eat bread, that they were watching him closely.
Một ngày Sa-bát, Ðức Chúa Jêsus vào nhà một người kẻ cả dòng Pha-ri-si để dùng bữa, những người ở đó dòm hành Ngài.
2 Behold, there in front of him was a man who was suffering from edema.
Số là có một người mắc bịnh thủy thũng ở trước mặt Ngài.
3 Jesus asked the experts in the Jewish law and the Pharisees, “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath, or not?”
Ðức Chúa Jêsus cất tiếng hỏi thầy dạy luật và người Pha-ri-si rằng: Trong ngày Sa-bát, có nên chữa bịnh hay không?
4 But they kept silent. So Jesus took hold of him, healed him, and sent him away.
Họ đều làm thinh. Ngài bèn đem người bịnh chữa lành, rồi cho về.
5 He said to them, “Which of you who has a son or an ox that falls into a well on the Sabbath day will not immediately pull him out?”
Ðoạn, Ngài phán cùng họ rằng: Nào có ai trong các ngươi, đương ngày Sa-bát, nếu có con trai hay là bò mình té xuống giếng mà không kéo liền lên sao?
6 They were not able to give an answer to these things.
Họ không đối đáp gì về điều đó được.
7 When Jesus noticed how those who were invited chose the seats of honor, he spoke a parable, saying to them,
Ngài thấy những kẻ được mời đều lựa chỗ ngồi trên, nên phán cùng họ thí dụ nầy:
8 “When you are invited by someone to a wedding feast, do not sit down in the place of honor, because someone may have been invited who is more honored than you.
Khi người ta mời ngươi dự tiệc cưới, chớ ngồi chỗ cao nhứt, vì e rằng trong những khách mời có ai tôn trọng hơn ngươi,
9 When the person who invited both of you arrives, he will say to you, 'Give this other person your place,' and then in shame you will proceed to take the lowest place.
người đứng mời sẽ đến nói cùng ngươi rằng: Hãy nhường chỗ cho người nầy ngồi, mà ngươi xấu hổ vì phải xuống chỗ chót chăng.
10 But when you are invited, go and sit down in the lowest place, so that when the one who has invited you comes, he may say to you, 'Friend, go up higher.' Then you will be honored in the presence of all who sit at the table with you.
Nhưng khi ngươi được mời, hãy ngồi chỗ chót, người đứng mời sẽ đến nói cùng ngươi rằng: Hỡi bạn, xin ngồi lên cao hơn. Vậy thì điều đó sẽ làm cho ngươi được kính trọng trước mặt những người đồng bàn mình.
11 For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.”
Bởi vì ai tự nhắc mình lên, sẽ phải hạ xuống, còn ai tự hạ mình xuống, sẽ được nhắc lên.
12 Jesus also said to the man who had invited him, “When you give a dinner or a banquet, do not invite your friends or your brothers or your relatives or your rich neighbors, as they may also invite you in return, and you will be repaid.
Ngài cũng phán với người mời Ngài rằng: Khi ngươi đãi bữa trưa hoặc bữa tối, đừng mời bạn hữu, anh em, bà con và láng giềng giàu, e rằng họ cũng mời lại mà trả cho ngươi chăng.
13 But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, and the blind,
Song khi ngươi đãi tiệc, hãy mời những kẻ nghèo khó, tàn tật, què, đui,
14 and you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you. For you will be repaid in the resurrection of the just.”
thì ngươi sẽ được phước, vì họ không có thể trả lại cho ngươi; đến kỳ kẻ công bình sống lại, ngươi sẽ được trả.
15 When one of them who sat at the table with Jesus heard these things, he said to him, “Blessed is he who will eat bread in the kingdom of God!”
Một người đồng tiệc nghe lời đó, thì thưa Ngài rằng: Phước cho kẻ sẽ được ăn bánh trong nước Ðức Chúa Trời!
16 But Jesus said to him, “A certain man prepared a large dinner and invited many.
Nhưng Ðức Chúa Jêsus đáp rằng: Có người kia dọn tiệc lớn, mời nhiều người ăn.
17 When the dinner was prepared, he sent his servant to say to those who were invited, 'Come, because everything is now ready.'
Khi đến giờ ăn, sai đầy tớ mình đi nói với những kẻ được mời rằng: Hãy đến, mọi sự đã sẵn rồi.
18 They all alike began to make excuses. The first said to him, 'I have bought a field, and I must go out and see it. Please excuse me.'
Song họ đồng tình xin kiếu hết. Người thứ nhứt nói rằng: Tôi có mua một đám ruộng, cần phải đi coi; xin cho tôi kiếu.
19 Another said, 'I have bought five pairs of oxen, and I am going to try them out. Please excuse me.'
Kẻ khác rằng: Tôi có mua năm cặp bò, phải đi xem thử; xin cho tôi kiếu.
20 Then another man said, 'I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.'
Kẻ khác nữa rằng: Tôi mới cưới vợ, vậy tôi không đi được.
21 The servant came and told his master these things. Then the master of the house became angry and said to his servant, 'Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the town and bring in here the poor, the crippled, the blind, and the lame.'
Ðầy tớ trở về, trình việc đó cho chủ mình. Chủ bèn nổi giận, biểu đầy tớ rằng: Hãy đi mau ra ngoài chợ, và các đường phố, đem những kẻ nghèo khó, tàn tật, đui, què vào đây.
22 The servant said, 'Master, what you commanded has been done, and yet there is still room.'
Sau lại đầy tớ trình rằng: Thưa chủ, điều chủ dạy, đã làm rồi, mà hãy còn thừa chỗ.
23 The master said to the servant, 'Go out into the highways and hedges and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.
Chủ nhà lại biểu rằng: Hãy ra ngoài đường và dọc hàng rào, gặp ai thì ép mời vào, cho được đầy nhà ta.
24 For I say to you, none of those men who were invited will taste my dinner.'”
Vì, ta nói cùng các ngươi, trong những kẻ đã mời trước, không có ai được nếm bữa tiệc của ta đâu.
25 Now large crowds were going with him, and he turned and said to them,
Có đoàn dân đông cùng đi với Ðức Chúa Jêsus; Ngài xây lại cùng họ mà phán rằng:
26 “If anyone comes to me and does not hate his own father, mother, wife, children, brothers and sisters, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple.
Nếu có ai đến theo ta mà không ghét cha mẹ, vợ con, anh em, chị em mình, và chính sự sống mình nữa, thì không được làm môn đồ ta.
27 Whoever does not carry his own cross and come after me cannot be my disciple.
Còn ai không vác thập tự giá mình theo ta, cũng không được làm môn đồ ta.
28 For which of you who desires to build a tower does not first sit down and count the cost to calculate if he has what he needs to complete it?
Vả, trong các ngươi có ai là người muốn xây một cái tháp, mà trước không ngồi tính phí tổn cho biết mình có đủ của đặng làm xong việc cùng chăng sao?
29 Otherwise, when he has laid a foundation and is not able to finish, all who see it will begin to mock him,
e khi đã xây nền rồi, không làm xong được, thì mọi người thấy liền chê cười,
30 saying, 'This man began to build and was not able to finish.'
và rằng: Người nầy khởi công xây, mà không thể làm xong được!
31 Or what king, as he goes to encounter another king in war, will not sit down first and take advice about whether he is able with ten thousand men to fight the other king who comes against him with twenty thousand men?
Hay là có vua nào đi đánh trận cùng vua khác, mà trước không ngồi bàn luận xem mình đem đi một muôn lính có thể địch nổi vua kia đem hai muôn cùng chăng sao?
32 If not, while the other army is still far away, he sends a delegation and asks for conditions of peace.
Bằng chẳng nổi, khi vua kia còn ở xa, sai sứ đi xin hòa.
33 So therefore, any one of you who does not give up all that he has cannot be my disciple.
Như vậy, nếu ai trong các ngươi không bỏ mọi sự mình có, thì không được làm môn đồ ta.
34 Salt is good, but if the salt has lost its taste, how can it be made salty again?
Muối là giống tốt; nhưng nếu muối mất mặn, thì lấy chi làm cho nó mặn lại được?
35 It is of no use for the soil or even for the manure pile. It is thrown away. He who has ears to hear, let him hear.”
Không dùng chi được cho ruộng hoặc cho phân; người ta phải bỏ nó ra ngoài. Ai có tai mà nghe, hãy nghe.
