Isaiah 11

1 A shoot will sprout from the stump of Jesse, and a branch out of his roots will bear fruit.

Mutta Iisain kannosta puhkeaa virpi, ja vesa versoo hänen juuristansa.

2 The Spirit of Yahweh will rest upon him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of instruction and might, the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of Yahweh.

Ja hänen päällänsä lepää Herran Henki, viisauden ja ymmärryksen henki, neuvon ja voiman henki, tiedon ja Herran pelon henki.

3 His delight will be the fear of the Lord; he will not judge by what his eyes see, nor decide by what his ears hear.

Hän halajaa Herran pelkoa; ei hän tuomitse silmän näöltä eikä jaa oikeutta korvan kuulolta,

4 Instead, he will judge the poor with righteousness and decide fairly for the humble of the earth. He will strike the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips he will slay the wicked.

vaan tuomitsee vaivaiset vanhurskaasti ja jakaa oikein oikeutta maan nöyrille; suunsa sauvalla hän lyö maata, surmaa jumalattomat huultensa henkäyksellä.

5 Righteousness will be the belt of his waist, and faithfulness the belt around his hips.

Vanhurskaus on hänen kupeittensa vyö ja totuus hänen lanteittensa side.

6 The wolf will live with the lamb, and the leopard will lie down with the young goat, the calf, the young lion and the fattened calf, together. A little child will lead them.

Silloin susi asuu karitsan kanssa, ja pantteri makaa vohlan vieressä; vasikka ja nuori leijona ja syöttöhärkä ovat yhdessä, ja pieni poikanen niitä paimentaa.

7 The cow and the bear will graze together, and their young will lie down together. The lion will eat straw like the ox.

Lehmä ja karhu käyvät laitumella, niiden vasikat ja pennut yhdessä makaavat, ja jalopeura syö rehua kuin raavas.

8 A baby will play over the hole of the snake, and the weaned child will put his hand on the serpent's den.

9 They will not hurt nor destroy on all my holy mountain; for the earth will be full of knowledge of Yahweh, as the waters cover the sea.

Ei missään minun pyhällä vuorellani tehdä pahaa eikä vahinkoa, sillä maa on täynnä Herran tuntemusta, niinkuin vedet peittävät meren.

10 On that day, the root of Jesse will stand as a banner for the peoples. The nations will seek him out, and his resting place will be glorious.

Sinä päivänä pakanat etsivät Iisain juurta, joka on kansojen lippuna, ja hänen asumuksensa on oleva kunniata täynnä.

11 On that day, the Lord will again extend his hand to recover the remnant of his people who remain in Assyria, Egypt, Pathros, Cush, Elam, Shinar, Hamath, and the islands of the sea.

Ja sinä päivänä Herra vielä toisen kerran ojentaa kätensä hankkiakseen itselleen kansansa jäännöksen, joka on jäljellä Assurissa, Egyptissä, Patroksessa, Etiopiassa, Eelamissa, Sinearissa, Hamatissa ja merensaarilla.

12 He will set up a banner for the nations and will gather the outcasts of Israel and the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth.

Hän nostaa viirin pakanakansoille ja kokoaa Israelin karkoitetut miehet; ja Juudan hajoitetut naiset hän kerää maan neljästä äärestä.

13 He will turn aside the envy of Ephraim, and hostilities of Judah will be cut off. Ephraim will not envy Judah, and Judah will no longer be hostile to Ephraim.

Silloin katoaa Efraimin kateus, ja Juudan vihat häviävät. Efraim ei kadehdi Juudaa, eikä Juuda vihaa Efraimia.

14 Instead they will swoop down on the Philistine hills on the west, and together they will plunder the people of the east. They will attack Edom and Moab, and the people of Ammon will obey them.

Ja he lentävät länteen päin filistealaisten niskaan, yhdessä he ryöstävät Idän miehiä. Edom ja Mooab joutuvat heidän käsiinsä, ammonilaiset heidän alamaisikseen.

15 Yahweh will completely destroy the gulf of the Sea of Egypt. With his scorching wind he will wave his hand over the Euphrates River and will divide it into seven streams, so it can be crossed over in sandals.

Ja Herra vihkii tuhon omaksi Egyptin merenlahden ja vihansa hehkussa kohottaa kätensä Eufrat-virtaa vastaan, lyö sen hajalle seitsemäksi puroksi ja tekee sen kengin kuljettavaksi.

16 There will be a highway for the remnant of his people that return from Assyria, as there was for Israel in their coming up from the land of Egypt.

Siitä tulee valtatie hänen kansansa jäännökselle, joka on jäljellä Assurissa, niinkuin tuli Israelille silloin, kun se Egyptin maasta lähti.
