Acts 22

1 “Brothers and fathers, listen to my defense which I will now make to you.”

സഹോദരന്മാരും പിതാക്കന്മാരുമായുള്ളോരേ, എനിക്കു ഇന്നു നിങ്ങളോടുള്ള പ്രതിവാദം കേട്ടുകൊൾവിൻ.

2 When the crowd heard Paul speak to them in the Hebrew language, they became quiet. He said,

എന്നാൽ എബ്രായഭാഷയിൽ സംസാരിക്കുന്നതു കേട്ടിട്ടു അവർ അധികം മൌനമായി നിന്നു. അവൻ പറഞ്ഞതെന്തെന്നാൽ:

3 “I am a Jew, born in Tarsus of Cilicia, but educated in this city at the feet of Gamaliel. I was instructed according to the strict ways of the law of our fathers. I am zealous for God, just as all of you are today.

ഞാൻ കിലിക്യയിലെ തൎസൊസിൽ ജനിച്ച യെഹൂദനും ഈ നഗരത്തിൽ വളൎന്നു ഗമാലിയേലിന്റെ കാല്ക്കുൽ ഇരുന്നു പിതാക്കന്മാരുടെ ന്യായപ്രമാണം സൂക്ഷ്മതയോടെ അഭ്യസിച്ചവനുമാകയാൽ നിങ്ങൾ എല്ലാവരും ഇന്നു ഇരിക്കുന്നതുപോലെ ദൈവസേവയിൽ എരിവുള്ളവനായിരുന്നു.

4 I persecuted this Way to the death, binding up and delivering them to prison both men and women,

ഞാൻ പുരുഷന്മാരെയും സ്ത്രീകളെയും പിടിച്ചു കെട്ടി തടവിൽ ഏല്പിച്ചും ഈ മാൎഗ്ഗക്കാരെ കൊല്ലുവാനും മടിക്കാതെ ഉപദ്രവിച്ചുംവന്നു.

5 as the high priest and all the elders can bear witness. I received letters from them for the brothers in Damascus, and went there to bring them back in bonds to Jerusalem in order for them to be punished.

അതിന്നു മഹാപുരോഹിതനും മൂപ്പന്മാരുടെ സംഘം ഒക്കെയും എനിക്കു സാക്ഷികൾ; അവരോടു സഹോദരന്മാൎക്കായി എഴുത്തു വാങ്ങിക്കൊണ്ടു ദമസ്കൊസിൽ പാൎക്കുന്നവരെയും പിടിച്ചുകെട്ടി ദണ്ഡനത്തിന്നായി യെരൂശലേമിലേക്കു കൊണ്ടുവരേണ്ടതിന്നു ഞാൻ അവിടേക്കു യാത്രയായി.

6 It happened that when I was traveling and nearing Damascus, about noon suddenly a great light from heaven began to shine around me.

അങ്ങനെ പ്രയാണം ചെയ്തു ദമസ്കൊസിനോടു അടുത്തപ്പോൾ ഏകദേശം ഉച്ചെക്കു പെട്ടെന്നു ആകാശത്തുനിന്നു വലിയോരു വെളിച്ചം എന്റെ ചുറ്റും മിന്നി.

7 I fell to the ground and heard a voice say to me, 'Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?'

ഞാൻ നിലത്തു വീണു: ശൌലേ, ശൌലേ, നീ എന്നെ ഉപദ്രവിക്കുന്നതു എന്തു എന്നു എന്നോടു പറയുന്ന ഒരു ശബ്ദം കേട്ടു.

8 I answered, 'Who are you, Lord?' He said to me, 'I am Jesus of Nazareth, whom you are persecuting.'

കൎത്താവേ, നീ ആർ എന്നു ഞാൻ ചോദിച്ചതിന്നു: നീ ഉപദ്രവിക്കുന്ന നസറായനായ യേശു ആകുന്നു ഞാൻ എന്നു അവൻ എന്നോടു പറഞ്ഞു.

9 Those who were with me saw the light, but they did not understand the voice of him who spoke to me.

എന്നോടു കൂടെയുള്ളവർ വെളിച്ചം കണ്ടു എങ്കിലും എന്നോടു സംസാരിക്കുന്നവന്റെ ശബ്ദം കേട്ടില്ല.

10 I said, 'What should I do, Lord?' The Lord said to me, 'Arise and go into Damascus; there you will be told everything that you must do.'

കൎത്താവേ ഞാൻ എന്തു ചെയ്യേണം എന്നു ചോദിച്ചുതിന്നു കൎത്താവു എന്നോടു; എഴുന്നേറ്റു ദമസ്കൊസിലേക്കു പോക; നീ ചെയ്യേണ്ടതിന്നു വിധിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നതെല്ലാം അവിടെ നിന്നോടു പറയും എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു.

11 I could not see because of that light's brightness, and being led by the hands of those who were with me, I came into Damascus.

ആ വെളിച്ചത്തിന്റെ തേജസ്സു ഹേതുവായിട്ടു കണ്ണു കാണായ്കയാൽ കൂടെയുള്ളവർ എന്നെ കൈക്കു പിടിച്ചു നടത്തി; അങ്ങനെ ഞാൻ ദമസ്കൊസിൽ എത്തി.

12 There I met a man named Ananias, a devout man according to the law and well spoken of by all the Jews who lived there.

അവിടെ പാൎക്കുന്ന സകല യെഹൂദന്മാരാലും നല്ല സാക്ഷ്യം കൊണ്ടവനായി ന്യായപ്രമാണപ്രകാരം ഭക്തിയുള്ള പുരുഷനായ അനന്യാസ് എന്നൊരുത്തൻ എന്റെ അടുക്കൽ വന്നുനിന്നു:

13 He came to me, stood by me, and said, 'Brother Saul, receive your sight.' In that very hour I saw him.

സഹോദരനായ ശൌലെ, കാഴ്ചപ്രാപിക്ക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു; ആ നാഴികയിൽ തന്നേ ഞാൻ കാഴ്ച പ്രാപിച്ചു അവനെ കണ്ടു.

14 Then he said, 'The God of our fathers has chosen you to know his will, to see the Righteous One, and to hear the voice coming from his own mouth.

അപ്പോൾ അവൻ എന്നോടു: നമ്മുടെ പിതാക്കന്മാരുടെ ദൈവം നിന്നെ തന്റെ ഇഷ്ടം അറിവാനും നീതിമാനായവനെ കാണ്മാനും അവന്റെ വായിൽ നിന്നും വചനം കേൾപ്പാനും നിയമിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

15 For you shall be a witness for him to all men about what you have seen and heard.

നീ കാൺകയും കേൾക്കയും ചെയ്തതിന്നു സകലമനുഷ്യൎക്കും നീ അവന്റെ സാക്ഷിയായിത്തീരും.

16 Now why are you waiting? Arise, be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on his name.'

ഇനി താമസിക്കുന്നതു എന്തു? എഴുന്നേറ്റു അവന്റെ നാമം വിളിച്ചു പ്രാൎത്ഥിച്ചു സ്നാനം ഏറ്റു നിന്റെ പാപങ്ങളെ കഴുകിക്കളക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

17 After I had returned to Jerusalem, and while I was praying in the temple, it happened that I was given a vision.

പിന്നെ ഞാൻ യെരൂശലേമിൽ മടങ്ങിച്ചെന്നു ദൈവാലയത്തിൽ പ്രാൎത്ഥിക്കുന്നേരം ഒരു വിവശതയിൽ ആയി അവനെ കണ്ടു:

18 I saw him say to me, 'Hurry and leave Jerusalem quickly, because they will not accept your testimony about me.'

നീ ബദ്ധപ്പെട്ടു വേഗം യെരൂശലേം വിട്ടുപോക; നീ എന്നെക്കുറിച്ചു പറയുന്ന സാക്ഷ്യം അവർ കൈക്കൊൾകയില്ല എന്നു എന്നോടു കല്പിച്ചു

19 I said, 'Lord, they themselves know that I imprisoned and beat those who believed in you in every synagogue.

അതിന്നു ഞാൻ: കൎത്താവേ, നിന്നിൽ വിശ്വസിക്കുന്നവരെ ഞാൻ തടവിൽ ആക്കുകയും പള്ളിതോറും അടിപ്പിക്കയും ചെയ്തു എന്നും

20 When the blood of Stephen your witness was spilled, I also was standing by and agreeing, and I was guarding the cloaks of those who killed him.'

നിന്റെ സാക്ഷിയായ സ്തെഫാനൊസിന്റെ രക്തം ചൊരിഞ്ഞപ്പോൾ ഞാനും സമ്മതിച്ചു അരികെ നിന്നു അവനെ കൊല്ലുന്നവരുടെ വസ്ത്രം കാത്തുകൊണ്ടിരുന്നു എന്നും അവർ അറിയുന്നുവല്ലോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

21 But he said to me, 'Go, because I will send you far away to the Gentiles.'”

അവൻ എന്നോടു: നീ പോക; ഞാൻ നിന്നെ ദൂരത്തു ജാതികളുടെ അടുക്കലേക്കു അയക്കും എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു.

22 They listened to him until he said this. Then they shouted and said, “Away with such a fellow from the earth, for it is not right that he should live.”

ഈ വാക്കോളം അവർ അവന്നു ചെവികൊടുത്തു; പിന്നെ: ഇങ്ങനെത്തവനെ ഭൂമിയിൽനിന്നു നീക്കിക്കളക; അവൻ ജീവിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നതു യോഗ്യമല്ല എന്നു നിലവിളിച്ചു പറഞ്ഞു.

23 As they were shouting, throwing off their cloaks, and throwing dust into the air,

അവർ കൂക്കലിട്ടും വസ്ത്രം കീറിക്കളഞ്ഞും പൂഴി വാരി മേലോട്ടു എറിഞ്ഞും കൊണ്ടിരിക്കുമ്പോൾ

24 the chief captain commanded Paul to be brought into the fortress. He ordered that he should be questioned with scourging, so that he himself might know why they were shouting against him like that.

അവർ ഇങ്ങനെ അവന്റെ നേരെ ആൎക്കുവാൻ സംഗതി എന്തു എന്നു അറിയേണ്ടതിന്നു ചമ്മട്ടികൊണ്ടു അവനോടു ചോദ്യം ചെയ്യേണം എന്നു സഹസ്രാധിപൻ പറഞ്ഞു അവനെ കോട്ടയിലേക്കു കൊണ്ടുപോകുവാൻ കല്പിച്ചു.

25 When they had tied him up with the thongs, Paul said to the centurion who was standing by, “Is it lawful for you to scourge a man who is a Roman and who has not been put on trial?”

തന്നെ വാറു കൊണ്ടു കെട്ടുമ്പോൾ പൌലൊസ് അരികെ നില്ക്കുന്ന ശതാധിപനോടു: റോമപൌരനും വിസ്താരം കഴിയാത്തവനുമായ മനുഷ്യനെ ചമ്മട്ടികൊണ്ടു അടിക്കുന്നതു വിഹിതമോ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

26 When the centurion heard this, he went to the chief captain and told him, saying, “What are you about to do? For this man is a Roman citizen.”

ഇതു കേട്ടിട്ടു ശതാധിപൻ ചെന്നു സഹസ്രാധിപനോടു: നീ എന്തു ചെയ്‌വാൻ പോകുന്നു? ഈ മനുഷ്യൻ റോമപൌരൻ ആകുന്നു എന്നു ബോധിപ്പിച്ചു.

27 The chief captain came and said to him, “Tell me, are you a Roman citizen?” Paul said, “Yes.”

സഹസ്രാധിപൻ വന്നു: നീ റോമപൌരൻ തന്നേയോ? എന്നോടു പറക എന്നു ചോദിച്ചതിന്നു:

28 The chief captain answered, “It was only with a large amount of money that I acquired citizenship.” But Paul said, “I was born a Roman citizen.”

അതെ എന്നു അവൻ പറഞ്ഞു. ഞാൻ ഏറിയ മുതൽ കൊടുത്തു ഈ പൌരത്വം സമ്പാദിച്ചു എന്നു സഹസ്രാധിപൻ പറഞ്ഞതിന്നു: ഞാനോ അങ്ങനെ ജനിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പൌലൊസ് പറഞ്ഞു.

29 Then the men who were going to question him left him immediately. The chief captain also was afraid, when he learned that Paul was a Roman citizen, because he had tied him up.

ഭേദ്യം ചെയ്‌വാൻ ഭാവിച്ചവർ ഉടനെ അവനെ വിട്ടുമാറി; സഹസ്രാധിപനും അവൻ റോമപൌരൻ എന്നു അറിഞ്ഞപ്പോൾ അവനെ ബന്ധിച്ചതുകൊണ്ടു ഭയപ്പെട്ടു.

30 On the next day, the chief captain wanted to know the truth about the Jews' accusations against Paul. So he untied his bonds and ordered the chief priests and all the council to meet. Then he brought Paul down and placed him in their midst.

പിറ്റെന്നു യെഹൂദന്മാർ പൌലൊസിന്മേൽ ചുമത്തുന്ന കുറ്റത്തിന്റെ സൂക്ഷ്മം അറിവാൻ ഇച്ഛിച്ചിട്ടു അവൻ മഹാപുരോഹിതന്മാരും ന്യായാധിപസംഘം ഒക്കെയും കൂടി വരുവാൻ കല്പിച്ചു അവനെ കെട്ടഴിച്ചു താഴെ കൊണ്ടുചെന്നു അവരുടെ മുമ്പിൽ നിറുത്തി.
