2 Chronicles 23
1 In the seventh year, Jehoiada showed his strength and entered into a covenant with the commanders of hundreds, Azariah son of Jeroham, Ishmael son of Jehohanan, Azariah son of Obed, Maaseiah son of Adaiah, and Elishaphat son of Zichri.
La septième année, Joïada prit courage et s’attacha par un pacte les centeniers Azaria, fils de Yeroham, Ismaël, fils de Johanan, Azariahou, fils d’Obed, Maassêyahou, fils d’Adaïahou, et Elichafat, fils de Zikhri.
2 They went about in Judah and gathered the Levites from all the cities of Judah, as well as the heads of the ancestral houses of Israel, and they came to Jerusalem.
Ceux-ci parcoururent Juda en tout sens et rassemblèrent, de toutes les villes de Juda, les Lévites et les chefs de famille d’Israël, qui se rendirent à Jérusalem.
3 All the assembly made a covenant with the king in the house of God. Jehoiada said to them, “See, the king's son will reign, as Yahweh has said concerning the descendants of David.
Toute cette assemblée conclut un accord avec le roi dans la maison de Dieu, et Joïada leur dit: "Voici le fils du roi; il doit régner, selon la promesse faite par l’Eternel au sujet des descendants de David.
4 This is what you must do: A third of you priests and Levites who come to serve on the Sabbath will be guards at the doors.
C’Est ainsi que vous procéderez: un tiers d’entre vous, de ceux qui prennent la semaine en qualité de prêtres et de Lévites, gardera les entrées,
5 Another third will be at the king's house, and the other third will be at the Foundation Gate. All the people will be in the courtyard of the house of Yahweh.
un tiers surveillera la maison du roi, et un tiers, la porte de Yessod; et tout le peuple restera dans les cours de la maison de l’Eternel.
6 Allow no one to come into the house of Yahweh, except for the priests and the Levites who are serving. They may enter because they are consecrated. But all the other people must obey the commands of Yahweh.
Ainsi n’entreront dans le temple de l’Eternel que les prêtres et ceux qui font le service en qualité de Lévites; eux, ils peuvent entrer, car ils sont consacrés; quant au peuple tout entier, il doit respecter l’ordonnance de l’Eternel.
7 The Levites must surround the king on all sides, every man with his weapons in his hand. Whoever comes into the house, let him be killed. Stay with the king when he comes in and when he goes out.”
Les Lévites feront cercle autour du roi, les armes à la main; quiconque voudra pénétrer dans le temple sera mis à mort. Vous accompagnerez le roi dans toutes ses démarches."
8 So the Levites and all Judah served in every way in the manner in which Jehoiada the priest commanded. Each one took his men, those who were to come in to serve on the Sabbath, and those who were to leave off serving on the Sabbath, for Jehoiada the priest had not dismissed any of their divisions.
Les Lévites et tout Juda exécutèrent fidèlement les ordres donnés par Joïada, le prêtre; ils prirent chacun leurs hommes, ceux qui commençaient et ceux qui avaient fini la semaine, car Joïada, le prêtre, n’avait pas congédié les sections.
9 Then Jehoiada the priest brought to the commanders spears and small and large shields that had been King David's that were in the house of God.
Le prêtre Joïada délivra aux centeniers les lances, les boucliers et autres armes ayant appartenu au roi David et déposées dans le temple de Dieu,
10 Jehoiada placed all the soldiers, each man with his weapon in his hand, from the right side of the temple to the left side of the temple, along by the altar and the temple, surrounding the king.
et il rangea tout le peuple, armes en main, en partant du côté droit jusqu’au côté gauche du temple, de façon à entourer le roi.
11 Then they brought out the king's son, put the crown on him, and gave him the covenant decrees. Then they made him king, and Jehoiada and his sons anointed him. Then they said, “Long live the king.”
Puis, on fit sortir le fils du roi, on lui remit la couronne et le "témoignage"; on le proclama roi, Joïada et ses fils l’oignirent, et l’on cria "Vive le roi!"
12 When Athaliah heard the noise of the people running and praising the king, she came to the people in the house of Yahweh,
Athalie, entendant les cris du peuple qui accourait et acclamait le roi, se rendit au milieu de la foule dans le temple de l’Eternel.
13 and she looked, and, behold, the king was standing by his pillar at the entrance, and the commanders and the trumpeters were by the king. All the people of the land were rejoicing and blowing trumpets, and the singers were playing musical instruments and leading the singing of praise. Then Athaliah tore her clothes and shouted, “Treason! Treason!”
Elle regarda et vit ce spectacle: le roi debout sur son estrade à l’entrée, les chefs et les trompettes acclamant le roi, toute la foule manifestant sa joie en sonnant de la trompette, et les chanteurs, qui s’accompagnaient d’instruments de musique, donnant le signal des applaudissements. A cette vue, Athalie déchira ses vêtements et s’écria: "Trahison, trahison!"
14 Then Jehoiada the priest brought out the commanders of hundreds who were over the army and said to them, “Bring her out between the ranks; anyone who follows her, let him be killed with the sword.” For the priest had said, “Do not kill her in the house of Yahweh.”
Le prêtre Joïada fit avancer les centeniers qui commandaient les troupes et leur dit: "Faites-la sortir des rangs, et qui la suivra, qu’on l’exécute avec le glaive!" Car le pontife avait recommandé qu’elle ne fût pas mise à mort dans la maison de l’Eternel.
15 So they seized her as she went into the entrance of the Horse Gate of the king's house, and there they killed her.
On fit place devant elle, et elle prit le chemin de l’entrée des chevaux pour se rendre au palais royal; là, on la mit à mort.
16 Then Jehoiada made a covenant between himself, all the people, and the king, that they should be Yahweh's people.
Joïada conclut un pacte l’engageant lui, tout le peuple et le roi, à devenir le peuple de l’Eternel.
17 So all the people went to the house of Baal and tore it down. They smashed Baal's altars and his images to pieces, and they killed Mattan, the priest of Baal, in front of those altars.
Toute la foule pénétra dans le temple de Baal et le saccagea; on brisa ses autels et ses statues, on tua devant les autels Matân, prêtre de Baal.
18 Jehoiada appointed officers for the house of Yahweh under the hand of the priests, who were Levites, whom David had assigned to the house of Yahweh, to offer the burnt offerings to Yahweh, as it was written in the law of Moses, together with rejoicing and singing, as David had given direction.
Le pontife plaça des surveillants dans la maison de l’Eternel, sous la direction des prêtres et des Lévites que David avait répartis en sections dans le temple du Seigneur, avec mission d’offrir les holocaustes à l’Eternel, conformément aux prescriptions de la Loi de Moïse, avec des manifestations de joie et des chants, selon le mode établi par David.
19 Jehoiada set guards at the gates of the house of Yahweh, so that no one that was unclean in any way should enter.
Il disposa aussi les portiers près des portes du temple de l’Eternel pour en interdire l’accès à toute personne devenue impure par une cause quelconque.
20 Jehoiada took with him the commanders of hundreds, the noblemen, the governors of the people, and all the people of the land. He brought down the king from the house of Yahweh; the people came through the Upper Gate to the king's house and sat the king on the throne of the kingdom.
Il se fit accompagner par les centeniers, les notables, les principaux chefs du peuple et toute la population et conduisit le roi hors de la maison de l’Eternel; on entra dans le palais du roi, en franchissant la porte Supérieure, et on fit asseoir le roi sur le trône de la royauté.
21 So all the people of the land rejoiced, and the city was quiet. As for Athaliah, they had killed her with the sword.
Tous les habitants du pays furent heureux, et la ville retrouva le calme. Quant à Athalie, on l’avait fait mourir par le glaive.
