Matthew 3
1 In those dayes Ihon the Baptyst came and preached in the wildernes of Iury
OR in que' giorni venne Giovanni Battista, predicando nel deserto della Giudea, e dicendo:
2 saynge; Repet the kyngdome of heue is at honde.
Ravvedetevi, perciocchè il regno de' cieli è vicino.
3 This is he of whom it is spoken by the Prophet Esay which sayeth: The voyce of a cryer in wyldernes prepare the Lordes waye and make hys pathes strayght.
Perciocchè questo [Giovanni] è quello del qual fu parlato dal profeta Isaia, dicendo: [Vi è] una voce d'uno che grida nel deserto: Acconciate la via del Signore, addirizzate i suoi sentieri.
4 This Iho had hys garmet of camels heer and a gerdell of a skynne aboute his loynes. Hys meate was locustes and wylde hony.
Or esso Giovanni avea il suo vestimento di pel di cammello, ed una cintura di cuoio intorno a' lombi, e il suo cibo erano locuste e miele salvatico.
5 The went oute to hym Ierusalem and all Iury and all ye regio roude aboute Iorda
Allora Gerusalemme, e tutta la Giudea, e tutta la contrada d'intorno al Giordano, uscirono a lui.
6 and were baptised of him in Iorda cofessynge their synnes.
Ed erano battezzati da lui nel Giordano, confessando i lor peccati.
7 When he sawe many of ye Pharises and of ye Saduces come to hys baptim he sayde vnto the: O generacio of vipers who hath taught you to fle fro the vengeauce to come?
Or egli, veggendo molti de' Farisei e de' Sadducei venire al suo battesimo, disse loro: Progenie di vipere, chi vi ha mostrato di fuggir dall'ira a venire?
8 Brynge forth therfore the frutes belongynge to repentauce.
Fate adunque frutti degni dal ravvedimento.
9 And se that ye ons thynke not to saye in your selues we haue Abraham to oure father. For I saye vnto you that God is able of these stones to rayse vp chyldern vnto Abraha.
E non pensate di dir fra voi stessi: Noi abbiamo Abrahamo per padre; perciocchè io vi dico, che Iddio può, eziandio da queste pietre, far sorgere dei figliuoli ad Abrahamo.
10 Euenowe is ye axe put vnto ye rote of ye trees: soo that every tree which bringeth not forthe goode frute is hewe doune and cast into ye fyre.
Or già è ancora posta la scure alla radice degli alberi; ogni albero adunque che non fa buon frutto, sarà di presente tagliato, e gettato nel fuoco.
11 I baptise you in water in toke of repentauce: but he ye cometh after me is myghtier then I whose shues I am not worthy to beare. He shall baptise you with ye holy gost and with fyre:
Ben vi battezzo io con acqua, a ravvedimento; ma colui che viene dietro a me è più forte di me, le cui suole io non son degno di portare; egli vi battezzerà con lo Spirito Santo e col fuoco.
12 which hath also his fan in his hod and will pourge his floure and gadre ye wheet into his garner and will burne ye chaffe with vnquecheable fyre
Egli ha la sua ventola in mano, e monderà interamente l'aia sua, e raccoglierà il suo grano nel granaio; ma arderà la paglia col fuoco inestinguibile.
13 Then cam Iesus from Galile to Iordan vnto Ihon to be baptised of hym.
ALLORA venne Gesù di Galilea al Giordano a Giovanni, per esser da lui battezzato.
14 But Ihon forbade hym saynge: I ought to be baptysed of the: and comest thou to me?
Ma Giovanni lo divietava forte, dicendo: Io ho bisogno di esser battezzato da te, e tu vieni a me!
15 Iesus answered and sayd to hym: Let it be so now. For thus it becommeth vs to fulfyll all rightwesnes. Then he suffred hym.
E Gesù, rispondendo, gli disse: Lascia al presente; perciocchè così ci conviene adempiere ogni giustizia. Allora egli lo lasciò [fare].
16 And Iesus assone as he was baptised came strayght out of ye water. And lo heue was ope over hym: and Ihon sawe the spirite of God descende lyke a doue and lyght vpon hym.
E Gesù, tosto che fu battezzato, salì fuor dell'acqua; ed ecco, i cieli gli si apersero, ed egli vide lo Spirito di Dio scendere in somiglianza di colomba, e venire sopra di esso.
17 And lo there came a voyce from heven sayng: Thys ys that my beloved sonne in whom is my delyte.
Ed ecco una voce dal cielo, che disse: Questo è il mio diletto Figliuolo, nel quale io prendo il mio compiacimento.
