Acts 15
1 Then cam certayne from Iewrie and taught the brethren: excepte ye be circumcysed after the maner of Moses ye cannot be saved.
Quelques disciples, venus de Judée, se mirent à enseigner les frères, disant: «Si vous ne vous faites circoncire suivant l'institution de Moïse, vous ne pouvez être sauvés.»
2 And when ther was rysen dissencion and disputinge not a litle vnto Paul and Barnabas agaynst them. They determined that Paul and Barnabas and certayne other of them shuld ascende to Ierusalem vnto the Apostles and elders aboute this question.
Mais un dissentiment et une dispute assez vive s'étant élevés entre Paul et Barnabas d'un côté, et ces gens de l’autre, on décida que Paul, Barnabas et quelques autres d'entre eux monteraient à Jérusalem vers les apôtres et les anciens, pour conférer sur cette question.
3 And after they were brought on their waye by the congregacion they passed over Phenices and Samaria declarynge the conuersion of the getyls and they brought great ioye vnto all ye brethren.
En conséquence, après avoir été accompagnés par l'église, ils traversèrent la Phénicie et la Samarie, où ils causèrent une grande joie à tous les frères en leur racontant la conversion des Gentils.
4 And when they were come to Ierusalem they were receaved of the congregacion and of the Apostles and elders. And they declared what thinges God had done by them.
Arrivés à Jérusalem, ils furent reçus par l'église, les apôtres et les anciens, et ils rapportèrent tout ce que Dieu avait fait par leur moyen.
5 Then arose ther vp certayne that were of the secte of the Pharises and dyd beleve sayinge that it was nedfull to circucise them and to enioyne the to kepe ye lawe of Moses.
Mais quelques-uns du parti des pharisiens, qui avaient embrassé la foi, se levèrent en disant: «Il faut les circoncire et leur enjoindre d'observer la loi de Moïse.»
6 And ye Apostles and elders came to geder to reason of this matter.
Les apôtres et les anciens s'assemblèrent pour examiner la question.
7 And when ther was moche disputinge Peter rose vp and sayde vnto them: Ye men and brethren ye knowe how that a good whyle agoo God chose amoge vs that the getyls by my mouth shuld heare the worde of the gospell and beleve.
Une longue discussion s'étant engagée, Pierre se leva et leur dit: «Frères, vous savez que, dès longtemps déjà, Dieu m'a choisi parmi vous pour faire entendre aux Gentils, par ma bouche, la parole de l'évangile, afin qu'ils croient:
8 And God which knoweth the herte bare them witnes and gave vnto them the holy goost eve as he dyd vnto vs
or Dieu, qui connaît les coeurs, a témoigné en leur faveur, en leur donnant le Saint-Esprit aussi bien qu'à nous;
9 and he put no difference bitwene them and vs but with fayth purified their hertes.
il n'a point fait de différence entre eux et nous, ayant purifié leurs coeurs par la foi.
10 Now therfore why tempte ye God that ye wolde put a yoke on the disciples neckes which nether oure fathers nor we were able to beare.
Pourquoi donc tentez-vous Dieu maintenant, en mettant sur le cou des disciples un joug, que ni nos pères ni nous n'avons pu porter?
11 But we beleve that thorowe the grace of the Lorde Iesu Christ we shalbe saved as they doo.
Nous croyons, au contraire, que c'est par la grâce du Seigneur Jésus que nous sommes sauvés, comme eux le croient aussi.»
12 Then all the multitude was peased and gave audience to Barnabas and Paul which tolde what signes and wondres God had shewed amonge the gentyls by them.
Toute l'assemblée garda le silence, et elle écouta Barnabas et Paul, qui racontèrent tous les miracles et les prodiges que Dieu avait faits par leur ministère au milieu des Gentils.
13 And when they helde their peace Iames answered sayinge: Men and brethren herken vnto me.
Quand ils eurent cessé de parler, Jacques prit la parole, et dit: «Frères, écoutez-moi:
14 Simeon tolde how God at the begynnynge dyd visit the gentyls and receaved of them people vnto his name.
Syméon a raconté comment Dieu a commencé de mettre à exécution son dessein de tirer du milieu des Gentils un peuple qui portât son nom.
15 And to this agreith ye wordes of ye Prophetes as it is written.
Les déclarations des prophètes concordent avec ce fait, selon qu'il est écrit:
16 After this I will returne and wyll bylde agayne the tabernacle of David which is fallen doune and that which is fallen in dekey of it will I bilde agayne and I will set it vp
«Après cela je reviendrai, et je réédifierai la maison de David, qui est tombée; je réédifierai ses ruines, et je la relèverai,
17 that the residue of men might seke after the Lorde and also the gentyls vpo whom my name is named saith ye Lorde which doth all these thinges:
afin que le reste des hommes cherche le Seigneur, ainsi que toutes les nations auxquelles on donne mon nom, dit le Seigneur qui exécuté ces choses, »
lesquelles sont connues de toute antiquité. (aiōn g165)
19 Wherfore my sentece is yt we trouble not them which fro amonge the gentyls are turned to God:
En conséquence j'estime qu'il ne faut point inquiéter les Gentils qui se convertissent à Dieu,
20 but yt we write vnto them yt they abstayne them selves fro filthynes of ymages fro fornicacio from straglyd and fro bloude.
mais leur écrire de s'abstenir des souillures des idoles, du libertinage, des animaux étouffés et du sang.
21 For Moses of olde tyme hath in every cite that preache him and he is rede in the synagoges every saboth daye.
Car, pour Moïse, depuis nombre de générations, il y a dans chaque ville des gens qui le prêchent, puisqu'on le lit chaque sabbat dans les synagogues.»
22 Then pleased it the Apostles and elders wt the whole congregacio to sende chosyn men of their owne copany to Antioche with Paul and Barnabas. They sent Iudas called also Barsabas and Silas which were chefe men amonge the brethre
Alors les apôtres et les anciens avec toute l'église arrêtèrent de choisir parmi eux quelques personnes qu'on enverrait à Antioche avec Paul et Barnabas. Ils choisirent Jude dit Barsabas et Silas, personnages éminents parmi les frères,
23 and gave them lettres in their hondes after this maner. The Apostles elders and brethren send gretynges vnto the brethre which are of the gentyls in Antioche Siria and Celicia.
et les chargèrent de la lettre que voici: «Les Apôtres, les Anciens et les frères, aux frères d'entre les Gentils qui sont à Antioche, en Syrie et en Cilicie, salut!
24 For as moche as we have hearde yt certayne which departed fro vs have troubled you with wordes and combred youre myndes sayinge: Ye must be circumcised and kepe the lawe to whom we gave no soche comaundemet.
— Ayant appris que quelques-uns des nôtres sont venus, sans notre aveu, vous troubler par des discours qui ont bouleversé vos âmes,
25 It semed therfore to vs a good thinge when we were come to gedder with one accorde to sende chosyn men vnto you with oure beloved Barnabas and Paul
nous avons arrêté, en assemblée générale, de choisir des représentants et de vous les envoyer avec nos bien-aimés Barnabas et Paul,
26 men that have ieoperded their lyves for the name of oure Lorde Iesus Christ.
ces hommes qui ont exposé leur vie pour le nom de notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ.
27 We have sent therfore Iudas and Sylas which shall also tell you the same thinges by mouth.
Nous vous avons donc député Jude et Silas, qui vous diront de bouche ce que nous vous écrivons,
28 For it semed good to the holy gost and to vs to put no grevous thinge to you more then these necessary thinges:
c'est qu'il a semblé bon au Saint-Esprit et à nous, de ne vous point imposer de nouvelles charges, excepté ceci, qui est indispensable,
29 that is to saye that ye abstayne from thinges offered to ymages from bloud from strangled and fornicacion. From which yf ye kepe youre selves ye shall do well. So fare ye well.
savoir, de vous abstenir de ce qui est sacrifié aux idoles, du sang, des animaux étouffés et du libertinage; toutes choses dont vous vous trouverez bien de vous garder. Adieu.»
30 When they were departed they came to Antioche and gaddred the multitude togeder and delyvered ye pistle.
Les députés ayant pris congé de l’église, allèrent à Antioche, et remirent la lettre à la multitude assemblée.
31 When they had redde it they reioysed of that consolacion.
On en fit lecture, et tous furent heureux de l'invitation qu'elle renfermait.
32 And Iudas and Sylas beinge prophetes exhorted the brethren with moche preachynge and strengthed them.
Jude et Silas, qui étaient eux-mêmes prophètes, exhortèrent les frères et les affermirent par un long discours.
33 And after they had taryed there a space they were let goo in peace of the brethren vnto the Apostles.
Après avoir passé quelque temps avec eux, ils revinrent, avec les voeux des frères, vers ceux qui les avaient envoyés.
34 Not with stondynge it pleasyd Sylas to abyde there still.
[Pour Silas, il trouva bon de rester à Antioche.]
35 Paul and Barnabas continued in Antioche teachynge and preachynge the worde of the Lorde with other many.
Paul et Barnabas séjournèrent à Antioche, enseignant et annonçant, avec plusieurs autres, la parole du Seigneur.
36 But after a certayne space Paul sayde vnto Barnabas: Let vs goo agayne and visite oure brethren in every cite where we have shewed the worde of the Lorde and se how they do.
Mais, au bout de quelque temps, Paul dit à Barnabas: «Retournons visiter les frères dans les différentes villes où nous avons annoncé la parole du Seigneur, pour voir dans quel état ils se trouvent.»
37 And Barnabas gave counsell to take wt them Iohn called also Marke.
Barnabas fut d'avis de prendre aussi Jean dit Marc;
38 But Paul thought it not mete to take him vnto their company whiche departed from them at Pamphylia and went not with them to the worke.
mais Paul estimait qu'il n'était pas juste de prendre avec eux un homme qui les avait abandonnés en Pamphylie, et qui ne les avait pas accompagnés dans leur oeuvre.
39 And the dissencion was so sharpe bitwene them that they departed a sunder one from the other: so that Barnabas toke Marke and sayled vnto Cypers.
Il en résulta de l'irritation, au point qu'ils se séparèrent l'un de l'autre, et que Barnabas, prenant Marc avec lui, fit voile pour l'Ile de Chypre.
40 And Paul chose Sylas and departed delyvered of ye brethren vnto the grace of god.
Paul, ayant fait choix de Silas, partit, après avoir été remis à la grâce du Seigneur par les frères.
41 And he went thorowe all Cyria and Cilicia stablisshynge the congregacions.
Il parcourut la Syrie et la Cilicie, affermissant les églises, et arriva à Derbe et à Lystres.
